Proposal In the Gala's Garden

You pulled Spike away from Twilight's castle to the gem caves for some "guy time". But, you brought him here for one specific reason--to find the perfect diamond and turn it into a ring.

"Anon, I found something!" Spike calls out to you nearby.

You walk over to him and you see him holding a big diamond.

"Is this what you were looking for?"

"Spike, it's perfect."

"Why did you call me out here?"

"Because I'm going to propose to Rarity."

Spike's eyes lighten up.

"Really?! That's awesome, bro."

You have a concerned look on your face.

"You're not upset?"

"Why would I be?"

"Because it took you a long time to get over Rarity when we told you we're dating."

"Pshh. Oh please, that was four years ago. I'm older now, I've matured and I got taller. Besides, I've been mainly focusing on myself.

Spike flexes his slightly muscular arm.

*Sigh* "I still haven't grown that mustache, though."

You pat the dragon on the shoulder.

"Well, you may not be with Rarity--but I think a certain OTHER white unicorn has had a thing for you for a long time."

Spike thinks for a second.

"Sweetie Belle...?"

"Yep. And you know the best part?"

"What's that?"

"If you and Sweetie Belle get together, we get to be brothers-in-law."

Spike smiles at that thought.

"Oh, Spike? One more thing. Do you want to be my best...uhh…dragon?"

"Heck yeah...! Well, we should get back to Ponyville.

"I'll take the diamond to a blacksmith and see if he can make a ring out of it."

"Oh, and Anon?"

"Yeah, Spike?"

"Treat her well."

"You know I will. You'd kill me if I mistreated her."

A few days later, the night of the Grand Galloping Gala has arrived. Twilight gave you and Rarity two tickets to the Gala. You put on your best-looking suit--that Rarity made, of course--and walk to the Carousel Boutique to get her. You clear your throat before walking in.

"Rarity, it's Anon!"

"I'll be down in a minute, my love!" She calls out to you from upstairs in a sing-song voice.

Two minutes go by and Rarity walks downstairs and by God, Celestia, whoever, she looks absolutely stunning. She was wearing a purple dress that matched her mane color, a diamond necklace that is an exact replica of her cutie mark, and a bracelet you gave her for her birthday.

"Darling, you look so handsome!"

Rarity walks over to you and gives you a quick kiss.

"So, do you like my dress?"

Your cheeks start to turn red.

"It's beautiful. But, I think the pony wearing it makes it look even more beautiful."

Rarity smiles and blushes at that compliment.

"Oh, you. You really know how to charm a lady."

"Well, shall we be off?"

"Yes, we should."

The rest of the girls decided to meet you at the train station to see you off.

"Are you girls sure you don't want to come?"

"No, you two should enjoy the night." Twilight responds.

"It may be a night you'll never forget, sugarcube." Applejack hints at Rarity.

"Whatever could you mean?"

"You'll see, right Pinkie Pie?" Rainbow Dash says while nudging her. She looks like she's about to explode.

You signal the pink earth pony to not spoil the surprise.

"All aboard to Canterlot! I repeat 'All aboard to Canterlot!'"

"Come on, dear. We don't want to be late."

"Have fun." Says Fluttershy in her usual quiet, yet excited, tone of voice.

"You kids better not get TOO crazy, ya hear?"

"We won't!" You reassure Applejack.

After seeing your train off, Pinkie Pie lets out a relieved sigh.

"Phew, that was close."

Once you and your marefriend get off the train to walk to the castle, the upper-class ponies of Canterlot are giving you and Rarity some weird looks.

"Why are they staring at us?"

"Pay them no mind, darling." Rarity hugs your arm. "They're just jealous because they see an adorable couple." Rarity says to take your mind off of the judgemental ponies.

When you arrive at the castle, you hold the door open for Rarity. You know your parents raised you to be a gentleman.

"My, how courteous of you."

You and Rarity manage to find a table and sit down.

"Darling, would you be a dear and fetch us something to drink?"

"Of course, baby."

You walk over to a bar to get some wine. You return to your table with the glasses of wine. You share a toast together and take a sip of really delicious wine. You stretch your hand out to Rarity.

"Might I have a dance?"

"Why, of course."

You lead her to the dance floor and show her your best ballroom skills.

"Goodness, you're a good dancer Anon."

"Well, I do have the best teacher."

Rarity leans on your chest.

"Hey, Fluttershy told me about the castle's garden. Can we look at it?"

"Sure."

Rarity holds your hand she shows you around the castle's garden. You notice a rose and your hand shakes while you hand it to her. She also notices that you are sweating.

"Darling, are you alright? You seem to be nervous about something."

"Huh...? Yeah, I-I'm fine." (Calm down, Anon. This is your one and only chance, don't screw up.)

You stop at a balcony to get a good view of the full moon.

"The moon looks beautiful tonight. Princess Luna must have made sure that the moon was full."

"Yeah, it is... But it's not as beautiful as you."

"Oh, stop. But please, go on."

"Hey Rarity, can I tell you something?"

"Of course, dear. What is it?"

You gulp and take a deep breath.

"I've been in this world for five years now. When I first came here, I was afraid because Equestria was so new to me. But, you and the girls took me in. You all accepted me as a friend, even if we're not the same species. You all taught me the values of friendship and how we should welcome each other's differences. And you love me despite the fact that you're a famous fashion designer and I'm just a mere construction worker."

"Oh don't sell yourself short now, darling. Your job did make you so big and strong...and so sexy.”

Your face turns as red as an apple.

"I'm glad I met someone as kind and generous as you. Your generosity made me feel like someone really loved me for the first time in my life. You love me even though I'm not rich or a prince."

Rarity puts a finger on your lips. "Don't say that, sweetie. You're MY prince. And you ARE loved... Ponyville loves you. The girls love you... And I love you." Rarity looks at you with a really cute smile.

"Anon, I personally believe that we were destined to be together. I've never met any stallion that is as kind, compassionate, and hard-working as you. I feel in love with you because of how you put other ponies' needs before your own. You are always there for me whenever I need you." She wraps her arms around your back in a loving hug.

"Even if I may never go back home, Equestria is my home now. And I love it here. And I love you. We've been together for four years now and...I still can't believe I fell in love with someone that's a different species than me... So, I've decided if I'm going to be here for the rest of my life, I would want to spend it with you."

"W-what are you saying?"

"I'm not saying anything. I'm asking you something."

You take a box out of your pocket and open it to reveal a ring inside of it. Rarity gasps while covering her mouth.

"Rarity, will you marry me?"

*Sniff* "YES!" She tackles you to the ground. "Yes! Of course I'll marry you! I love you so much!"

"Hey, don't cry. You'll ruin your makeup."

"I don't care. I'm just too happy right now."

"Honey, you’re choking me!”

"Oh, I'm sorry." Rarity tries her best to recompose herself.

She eventually lets you back up and you put the ring on her finger.

"Anon, this ring is so beautiful."

"Well, thank Spike. He's the one who found the diamond in the gem cave."

"I'll thank him when we get home. But, we should get back to the party."

When you two walk back into the castle, Rarity can hear a familiar voice.

"Rarity, come over here, honey!"

Rarity brings you over to her colleagues: Hoity Toity, Photo Finish, and Sapphire Sores.

"Everypony, this is Anon."

"Hello."

"Be nice to him."

"So this is the coltfriend you were talking about. Hoity Toity." The fashionable stallion extends his hand. "Pleased to meet you."

"The pleasure's all mine, sir." You say while shaking his hand.

You kiss the rest of the mares' hands as a formal greeting.

"Well, he's not just my coltfriend."

Rarity shows them the ring and the whole group gasps in awe.

"That's right. He proposed. We're getting married."

"Rarity, ziz ring is so beautiful." Photo Finish says while removing her sunglasses.

"Rarity, you didn't tell me that he'd be this handsome." Sapphire Shores says while she caresses your chin.

"Sapphire, he's mine!" Rarity jokes while clinging on to your arm.

"I'm just teasing you, honey."

*Sigh* “Nothing can ruin this night."

"Well, well, well. We meet again, Rarity." A familiar voice calls out to her.

"Oh, please don't be who I think it is."

A stallion wearing a fancier tuxedo than yours walks up to Rarity.

*Sigh* “Hello again, Prince Blueblood." Rarity sarcastically greets him.

"Remember me, Rarity?"

"I wish I didn't..."

You nudge Rarity to get her attention.

"Hey, is this the stallion you told me about once?"

"Unfortunately, yes."

Blueblood looks at you.

"And you are?"

"Anon."

"Ah yes... The human. I have heard a few things about you."

*Sigh* "What could you possibly want?"

"Well, I was just saying hello since we haven't seen each other in forever."

Blueblood realizes that you and Rarity are together.

"Wait, you're here with...HIM?"

"Yes. He's my fiancé, is that a problem?"

Blueblood looks disgusted.

"Ughh, you're going to marry him?"

"Yes. I. Am!"

"How could you marry him? He's not even a pony."

Rarity starts to get angry.

"So?! I don't care! I’m marrying him because I love him!”

"Have you seen him?! Look at him! He's ugly!”

"Hey!" You interject.

"Darling, let me handle this." Rarity holds you back with her hand. "How dare you insult him! He may not be a pony, but he is the kindest and most handsome man in all of Equestria!"

Blueblood scoffs at her rebuttal. "How could you possibly love him? He's not even a prince! You realize you could have ended up somepony rich and handsome as opposed to him?"

"He's more of a prince than you'll ever be! At least he treats me like a lady! Did you not learn how to treat a mare with respect? I am so glad that I reconsidered being with you after the way you treated me five years ago. You're just jealous because I didn't sleep with you when we first met."

"Hmph, you would know about 'sleeping with ponies'. I know you, Rarity. With that body of yours, I know you slept your way to the top."

Rarity starts to turn red out of anger and embarrassment.

"I'll have you know that I gave my virginity to him! And he's the only one I have ever slept with! And I do not need to have sex to ‘get to the top’!”

Blueblood looks like he's about to vomit.

"YOU HAD SEX WITH HIM?!"

"YES I DID! And I loved every second of it."

"I don't know how you could possibly sleep with that...thing!"

"Ok, that's enough! Listen to me, you arrogant son of a bitch! You may be a prince, but you have no right to speak to me or my wife-to-be in such a manner!”

"No, you listen. I am a prince. You are nothing. I am rich. You are just some filthy commoner alien from another world. I am handsome and you are the ugliest thing I ever had the displeasure of laying my eyes on. And I have no idea how that whore could possibly love something as disgusting and vile as you."

Without thinking you punch Blueblood so hard that he falls to the floor. It looks like you knocked him out cold. The whole crowd gasps in shock and whispers amongst themselves. You then realize what you just did. You look around before you run out of the castle embarrassed about your actions. Rarity looks at a knocked-out Blueblood before she runs after you.

"Hmph, serves you right... Anon, wait."

Rarity finds you sitting on a castle stair step.

"Darling, are you alright?" She sits down next to you.

You turn your head in the opposite direction out of shame.

"Anon. look at me."

"I can't. I just embarrassed you in front of everypony."

"No no, it's ok."

"It's not ok. I just knocked out a prince--Princess Celestia's nephew, might I add."

"Oh, believe me, dear, I was about to do the same thing."

*Sigh* "I am so screwed. Princess Celestia going to kill me or worse." You can hear the castle doors opening.

"Good evening, you two."

You can feel your heart drop into your stomach. You both kneel before the princess.

"Please, stand up." Celestia says calmly."I heard about what happened between you two and my nephew."

"Princess, I am so sorry. I was so angry that I lost control. I was just trying to defend Rarity."

"He had the nerve to insult Anon and he called me a whore."

Celestia has a disappointed look on her face.

"Anonymous, while violence was not the answer, I cannot fault you on why you did it. I must apologize on my nephew's behalf. I forgive you and pardon you from any and all punishment. My nephew, however, will receive a punishment for his words."

You both sigh in relief.

Celestia notices the ring on Rarity's finger. "Oh, and congratulations on your engagement."

Celestia walks back inside the castle.

"We should probably go home and let this blow over."

"Agreed."

You walk the streets of Canterlot to back to the train station. While you are walking, you notice a big puddle of water.

"Wait, let me use my jacket."

"No, no, I can walk around it."

"Actually, I have a better idea." You hoist Rarity off of her feet and carry her in your arms bridal style.

"D-darling..."

"What? It's good practice."

You ended up carrying her all the way to the train station.

"Hey, Rarity? If we're gonna be married, we're obviously going to have to live together."

"Well, you should move in with me so I can be closer to work."

"Yeah, I'd love that."
