Chapter 2: Meeting the Friends

Previous Chapter

The light of the morning sun shone through the windows of Sunset's room. Opening her turquoise eyes, Sunset let off a refreshed yawn before turning to see Sami snuggled up against her. Sunset couldn't help but lean over and stroke his furry back with a smile. This sight could be only described by her Rainbow haired friend as 20% adorable.

She sat up in the bed, and in a soothing tone, whispered into his ear. "Sami, it's time to wake up."

Hearing her voice, Sami carefully opened his eye and smiled at the bacon haired girl. "Good morning, Sunset," he said quietly.

Sunset lifted him and placed him on her lap. "Hey there, little guy. Did you sleep well?"

Sami nodded and laid his head on Sunset's neck.

"Good to hear. Would you like some breakfast?" Sunset asked as she ruffled his head.

"Yes Sunset. I-I’d like that," Sami replied, while his stomach grumbled. Sunset chuckled. With that, Sami hopped off her lap, and took Sunset’s hand in his little paw.

When the two arrived at the kitchen to have some breakfast, Sami gently sat in one of the kitchen chairs while Sunset went to the fridge to make something to eat. Sunset made herself a raspberry jam sandwich and for Sami a bowl of Golden Nugget cereal. Once she finished making breakfast, Sunset walked over to Sami with the bowl of cereal in her hands and gently set it in front of him with a spoon.

"Here you go, I hope you enjoy it, buddy," Sunset said to him, clinking the spoon and bowl.

Sami smiled softly at Sunset before taking a spoonful of the cereal.

"Thank you, Sunset. It tastes very good." Sami grinned, wagging his tail and hurriedly eating another bite.

Sunset patted his shoulder. "No problem, Sami, I'm happy that you liked it."

Breakfast continued as it would, with Sami finding cereal 'the best thing in the whole world'. He proceeded to then polish it off in less than a minute, to which Sunset found highly amusing.

Placing the dishes in the sink, she turned to Sami. "Hey, Sami, would you like to meet my friends later today?" Sunset asked.

Sami nearly tripped out of his seat in excitement. "Yes, I would like that, a lot. Are your friends nice just like you?"

"Oh, they are the most awesome friends I've ever met. Don’t worry Sami, you’ll like them," she gave him a wink.

"I hope so," Sami said lightly, yet his head lowered. "I've never had a friend before."

"Well, guess what? You already have one," Sunset said as she pointed at herself with her thumb.

Sami giggled, running up to Sunset and hugging her. Sunset blushed a little and hugged him in return. "But before we leave, is it alright if I take a shower?"

He gave her a small nod, before Sunset took Sami’s paw into hers and led him upstairs.

Once the two arrived in front of the bathroom's door, Sunset placed her hand on his shoulder. "You stay here, alright?"

Sami stood back. "Okay, Sunset," he agreed.

With a quick pat on the head, Sunset closed the door behind her, the shower kicking on a few minutes later. Slumping down to the floor, Sami waited patiently, playing with his hook. When the older girl appeared, she wore the same clothes from yesterday, still drying her hair with a towel.

Sami got changed and the two of them chilled around Sunset’s home for a bit before they went to meet their friends for lunch. Sunset showed Sami some of her favourite television shows such as The Ultraman Series and her favourite games such as the Mario Party games. They both played Mario Party 8 together, Sami was at a complete disadvantage with a hook for a hand but surprisingly Sami won.

Soon it was time to meet Sunset’s friends for lunch. The pair went downstairs, walking outside to the golden sunny day. As Sami held Sunset’s hand, Sunset glanced down at him with a twinge of worry. 'Something is wrong with him, but I can't put my finger on it. I hope everything goes well.'

Sami and Sunset walked down the street, the warn sun beat down upon the two of them.To many, Saturday is the best day of the week. There is no work, no school and nothing but a free day to do what you need to take care of or have fun with friends.

Some people, which were at the same age as Sunset, greeted her with a wave of their hands in which she returned with a wave or a thumbs up. However, there were some murmurs and stares from some people who saw the fox walking with Sunset. Sami noticed the looks he was receiving from the people. This made Sami very uncomfortable and he stayed as close to Sunset as possible, not wanting to be separated from her.

Sunset noticed this and turned to look at him with a warm smile. "Don't worry Sami, everyone's here are really cool. Nobody will hurt you. There is no need to be scared."

Sami nodded in reply as they continued their way through Canterlot. He continued to stay as close to Sunset as possible until something jumped in front of him, making him yelp in surprise not because he stood on his tail.

Standing in front of Sami was a bright pink girl, about the same age as Sunset, with a large poofy dark pink hairstyle and blue eyes. She was wearing a cyan vest with a white shirt and a pink heart in the middle underneath the vest, cyan wristbands on each arm, a purple bow belt around the waist, a big pink skirt with three balloons on it and cyan boots with pink bows.

The girl stared deeply at him with her large yellow eye. Her eyes continued to come closer, making Sami more scared and uncomfortable than he already was. With the eyes being closer than they should be, the pink girl spoke with incredible quickness.

"Hi! I'm Pinkie Pie! Who are you!? Are you new here!? I know everybody in Canterlot, but I don't know you!" – she then let out a big gasp – "So you must be new!! By the way, aren't you such a little wittle cutie!? You are so cute!! I could just eat you up! What's you name!? What is it!? Huh!? What is it!? What is it!? Tell me!! Tell me!! T-"

Pinkie Pie's crazy and childish rambling was cut off by a hand in her mouth. As for Sami, he quickly ran behind to the source of the hand. It was Sunset's hand.

"Pinkie Pie! You need to calm down, you're scaring him!" Sunset chided.

Sunset turned to look at Sami with a look of worry. The child was shaking like a leaf with small tears in his eyes while hugging tightly Sunset's leg. Now, he was extremely terrified of the pink gal in front of him.

Letting out a sigh, Sunset glared at Pinkie Pie. "Now look what you've done, Pinkie."

Pinkie's bubbly personality faded away when she saw the anger in Sunset's eyes. Then, she looked down at Sami and reached a hand to touch him, only for Sami to shy away from it. Pinkie's hair deflated like a balloon.

"Oh, I'm... I'm so, so sorry. I didn't mean to scare you," Pinkie said apologetically to Sami, “l-let me start again.” She cleared her throat and spoke in a much softer voice. “Hi, it's great to meet you! I'm Pinkie Pie! What’s yours?" she said cheerful, yet in a calm tone, Sami poked his head around Sunset’s legs, he could see that Pinkie was sorry for scaring him.

“S-Sami,” he responded quietly, he crept out slowly for behind Sunset’s legs. Then Pinkie pulled him into a big but soft hug and gave him a sweet kiss on the forehead as she whipped away his tears.

"I'm VERY sorry for scaring you Sami!” Apologised Pinkie, “I was trying to be your friend, but Pinkie was being a mean meanie pants to you instead! Would you forgive me?" “

Sami calmed down hugged her tightened his grip on Pinkie, Pinkie and Sunset where happy that Sami was now happy to meet Pinkie Pie.

“Now how about we go and meet our friends for lunch,” Sunset declared, Pinkie and Sami agreed. As Pinkie bounced in front of them, Sami looked up at Sunset.

“Sunset where are we going?” he asked.

“Didn’t I tell you?” Sunset asked in return, Sami shook his head, “we are going to Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.”

Sunset, Pinkie and Sami arrived in front of a Pizzeria. Sami looked a bit nervous but Sunset and Pinkie assured him that there’s nothing to be afraid of. As they walked in, a woman at the front desk greeted them.

“Ah Good afternoon, Miss, Shimmer and Miss, Pie,” the girl greeted them, “Oh, and who’s this little sweetheart?”

“Hey, Mrs. Pizza,” Sunset greeted back, “This is Sami, Sami this is our friend Mrs. Hawaii Pizza, she’s the manager here.”

“Nice to meet you Mrs. Pizza,” Sami replied shyly, Mrs. Pizza leaned over her desk and patted his head.

“Nice to meet you too, my little topping,” Mrs. Pizza responded, “your friends are already here waiting for you two, so you three can go on in.”

“Thanks Mrs. P,” Pinkie yelled as the walking into the main dining room. Sami was amazed by what he saw. There were arcade machines, children drawings on the walls, Pizza and children playing with each other. There was also anthropomorphic animals preforming on stages. Sunset led Sami to a rather large table with a group of girls and anthropomorphic animals talking to each other.

“Hey guys!” Sunset called out to her friends, her friends heard her through all the shouting of children and saw Sunset with Pinkie.

“Hey, girls!” called back a girl with light blue skin and rainbow hair.

“What took you so long Lass?” asked a red fox.

“Sorry, Pinkie here scared my new friend,” Sunset looked at Pinkie who sank under her gaze.

“Oh? Who is this new friend of yours Darling?” a white girl with fabulous purple hair.

“Guys, and girls, I like you to meet…” Sunset looked down at Sami who was hugging her leg, Sunset patted his head, “don’t worry Buddy, they won’t hurt you.” Sami released his grip on Sunset’s leg, and she lifted him up to show him to the gang. “I you all to meet Sami”.

“O M G,” exclaimed an anthro chicken girl wit rosy cheeks and pink short shorts, “he is so cute!”

“Sami,” Sunset, introduced her friends one by one, “I like you to meet, Rarity, Applejack, Twilight, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy, Toy Freddy, Toy Bonnie, Toy Chica, Mangle, Baby, Ballora, Funtime Freddy and Funtime Foxy.”

“And don’t forget Bon-Bon!” Funtime Freddy exclaimed as he brought out his puppet friend.

“Right,” Sunset sighed, “and that’s Bon-Bon.”

Fluttershy let out a squee at the sight of the child. "Oh, Sunset! He's so cute!"

Applejack was the first one to walk up to him. "Well, well, well, what do we have here," the farm girl said with a smile as she knelt to Sami's level. "Howdy their little feller, mah name is Applejack and it’s a darn tootin’ pleasure to meet ya Sami."

Sami looked up at her with a small smile. "I-It's nice to meet you too, M-Miss Applejack."

Applejack felt her heart melt at his politeness, and she tipped her hat to him before walking back to the group.

Fluttershy was the next to walk up to the small child.

"Hi there, sweetheart," she said in a gentle, motherly tone.

The shy girl reached out a hand and tenderly stroked his left arm to ease his nervousness.

"It’s nice to meet you Sami." Fluttershy said in the softest of tones to not scare the boy. "I am Fluttershy."

Sami gave her a small smile. "I-It’s nice to m-meet you too Miss F-Fluttershy."

Fluttershy blushed. "Aww, sweetie, you don’t have to call me miss. That's very respectful of you, but Fluttershy is just fine, okay?"

Sami nodded as a blush formed on his cheeks at being called 'sweetie' and Fluttershy walked over to the girls.

Twilight started walking toward the little boy and sat on her knees as she adjusted her glasses.

"Hello, Sami, it’s a pleasure to meet you," she gave him a warm smile, reaching out her hands and clasping his hand in a handshake. "My name is Twilight Sparkle."

Sami gave her a soft smile. "I-It’s good to m-meet you too Miss T-Twilight."

Twilight returned the smile with one of her own and walked over to the others.

Rarity was next as she kneeled, she cooed upon the sight of the little boy. "Oh my! Aren't you the sweetest thing I've ever seen?" Rarity said, beaming at the sight of the kid.

Sami only blushed at the comment. To ease his nervousness, Rarity carefully reached out her hand to stroke his little paw.

"Please don’t be afraid dear, I’m not going to hurt you," Rarity said in an elegant, yet soft voice. Then she gave him a kiss in the forehead. "Well, Sami, it’s a great pleasure to meet you."

Sami gave a light smile as he looked up at her. "I-It’s nice to m-meet you too, M-Miss R-Rarity,"

Rarity returned the smile. "Aww, such manners you have Sami. But you don't have to call me miss, Rarity is just fine."

Rainbow Dash was the last to walk up to him and gave him a big, friendly smile.

"Hey there, little guy, my name is Rainbow Dash. It is a pleasure to meet you," she said, placing her hand on his shoulder. "Like Sunset said, there is no need to be afraid. We are all pleased to meet you."

Sami gave them each a soft smile. "I-It’s nice to meet y-you all."

Sunset then took him to the Fazbears, who d’awwed at the sight of him. Chica picked him up and placed him on her lap.

“Hello there, little buddy,” Chica said softly, “It’s nice to meet you, I’m Chica.”

“Hello Miss. Chica,” Sami replied, Chica placed her feathery fingers on his cheeks.

“No need to be so formal dreary,” she chuckled.

"Sunset, I didn't know you have a little brother or cousin," Ballora said as she gently ruffled Sami's furry head.

"Yeah, ya don't talk about yer folks too often," Applejack added with everyone else nodding in agreement.

Sunset bit her lower lip and shook her head. "Actually, he's not my brother or cousin."

"No?" everyone said in confusion.

"Ummm, well, you see..." Sunset began explaining what happened yesterday. As she anticipated, her friends had a frown on their faces.

"But what about his parents?" Baby asked.

That question caused a deep frown to creep across Sami's face. Sunset's face saddened a little as she reached out her arm and put it around his shoulders. Chica gave Sami a soft hug to calm him.

"I don't know," Sunset replied as the Fazbears took it in turns to stroke Sami's fur. "I haven't asked him yet. But something bad must happened to him hints the eye patch and hook. I think is better to ask him when he's ready."

Fluttershy, feeling bad for the little fox, Toy Bonnie gave him to her, and she pulled him into a tender hug. She lifted his eye patch and saw his deep scar.

"Aww... You poor little thing," she said soothingly.

Sami trembled a little bit of being close with someone else besides Sunset, but then calmed down in the shy girl embrace. She leaned her head toward him and gave him a gentle kiss on his forehead.

Applejack walked up to Sunset and patted her on the shoulder.

"Ah am impressed of ya, Sunset. That's probably the most selfless thing ya ever done," she gave her a smile.

"Well, I just couldn't leave him alone," Sunset replied, returning the smile.

Just then five more anthropomorphic animals came over with a lot of pizza. One was a green and yellow frog, one was a purple hippo, one was a brown bear with a lazy eye, one was a pig with one blue and one green eye, and the last was an orange elephant.

“Greetings friends,” cried the Elephant.

“We got your pizzas,” the frog responded, as she placed to pizzas on the table, she saw Sami, “Holy Lilypad’s! Who is this young cutie?”

Sunset sighed happily to see the happier bunch in the pizzeria, “Sami, these are Happy Frog, Mr. Hippo, Nedd Bear, Pigpatch, and Orville Elephant. Guys this is Sami our new friend.”

“Well, it’s mighty fine to meet you laddie,” Nedd Bear exclaimed.

The group of friends enjoyed their pizzas, and Sami enjoyed the shows performed by his new friends, and even made new friends like the Rockstars, Springlocks and Glamrocks. Soon it was time to go.

“Ok Sami, time to go home!” Sunset called out.

"Aww, he really needs to go," Twilight playfully cooed as she scratched behind his ear as he enjoyed it like a dog would earning a giggle from everybody.

"Sorry, guys, but we will come tomorrow at Sugarcube Corner. How does that sound?" Sunset said.

The girls and Fazbears nodded in agreement.

"That's a good idea, Sunset." Rainbow said before looking at Sami. "Goodbye little guy. It was a pleasure to meet you."

"Bye, everyone," Sami said as he wrapped his arms around her in which she returned the hug.

"Bye girls. See you tomorrow," Sunset said and then she turned to Sami and gently took his hand into hers. "Let's go, Sami."

Sami nodded at Sunset before turning to the girls with a soft smile. "G-goodbye everyone. S-See you t-tomorrow."

"See ya tomorrow," the girls waved at them as Sunset and Sami went straight to home.

When the two arrived at Sunset's house, the day was coming to an end. The sun was already dipping behind the horizon, but the light still lingered in the air. The sky was painted in hues of fiery red and crimson.

Once they went inside, Sunset heard Sami's stomach softly grumble.

Sunset gave the boy a teasing smirk. "Looks like someone's hungry."

Sami blushed and nodded.

"Alright, buddy, what would you like for dinner?" she gently asked.

"C-Could you make the s-same thing from y-yesterday? I r-really liked it," he smiled softly at her.

"Of course, bud," Sunset replied, gently took his hand into hers and both went to the kitchen.

When the two arrived at the kitchen, Sami sat in one of the kitchen chairs while Sunset started to make the dinner. After several minutes, the bacon haired gal walked over to Sami with two plates of two fried sausage sandwiches and carefully set it in the table with two glasses of lemonade.

Once Sunset sat down, the two ate their dinner with smiles on their faces. After finishing their dinner, Sami let out a soft yawn.

"Oh, looks like someone's ready for bed," Sunset said with a soft smirk.

"S-Sunset?" Sami began as he let another yawn.

She looked down at the sleepy child. "What's up, Sweetie?"

"C-Can I sleep... with you again?" Sami gently asked. "I-It just..."

He was cut off when Sunset gently picked him up from under his armpits. Then she rubbed the top of his head gently with her hand.

"You don't want to have nightmares again, right?" Sunset gave him a warm smile.

The kid gave her a simple nod in reply.

Sunset simply shrugged her shoulders. "Meh, that's fine by me."

Sunset walked upstairs with the child on her arms to her bedroom. Once they arrived at the bedroom, she walked up to her bed and placed the kid on it.

"Don't worry, buddy, I'll be right back," Sunset said reassuringly.

She went to the drawer where she pulled her sleeping clothes before walking out of the bedroom to go to the bathroom to get changed. While Sunset was getting changed, Sami stared out the window, watching the moon in the dark blue canvas as the sky was filled with shiny stars.

Just then, Sunset entered the room, now clad in her sleep wear from yesterday. She went to the other side of the bed, climbed up and laid down beside Sami. She brought her arm over the small child, pulling him to her side and began to stroke his hair with her hand.

"Ummm... S-Sunset? C-Can you s-sing me a l-lullaby?" Sami asked quietly.

Sunset smiled down at him warmly. "A lullaby, huh?"

Sami nodded. "Yes please."

She closed her eyes before letting out a soft sigh and started to sing a very familiar song...

Hush now, quiet now
It's time to lay your sleepy head
Hush now, quiet now
It's time to go to bed.

Driftin' off to sleep
Leave the day behind you
Driftin' off to sleep
Let the joy of dreamland find you.

Hush now, quiet now
It's time to lay your sleepy head
Hush now, quiet now
It's time to go to bed.

As Sunset sang, Sami's eyelids got heavy and let out a yawn. When the song ended, the fox fell asleep with a small smile on his face.

Sunset gave a gentle loving smile at the sleeping boy, leaned her head down and kissed him on the forehead. Then, she closed her eyes and fell asleep with Sami snuggling against her.

With the light of the moon shining through the window of the room, the two slept like if they were mother and son.
