To Dream of Equestria

Prologue- How Did I Get Here?

“You shouldn’t have done that, pest!”

“Shut up! It’s over for you. You’ll be back home, and I’ll be here. We’ll both be happy and out of each other’s lives forever.”

“Oh no, you’re not getting away THAT easily! I’ll make sure I’ll get my revenge on you yet!”

“What? You can’t be-“

*BANG*

“Now we’ll see who goes back and who stays here! I’ll make your life a living HELL!”

I woke with a gasp. I gathered my surroundings, but nothing looked familiar. I was in a house I’d never seen before. This made no sense. “Hello?” I called out. No answer. I got out of the bed I was in, and walked downstairs. “No one is here…I wonder where I am?” I asked myself, as I scanned the bookshelves. “Well, this looks like a house with a library in it…But I still don’t know where I am. I wonder if one of these books has an answer?” I ask, looking around. Eventually, I came across a book that piqued my interest. It wasn’t protruding or even that big, but something about it was interesting. Before I could reach for it, I heard the door open.

“Hey, you’re awake! I hope it didn’t hurt too much.” a very calm, happy feminine voice said.

That didn’t make any sense to me. I really don't know what's going on. I try to remember the last thing that happened, but my mind is just...blank.

“I’m sorry, but I have no idea what you’re talking about. Only thing I remember, I was knocked out.”

“Good so it didn’t. …Wait. The ONLY thing you remember?”

I nodded. “Nothing before I blacked out. …Except for one thing. My mind keeps saying ‘I’m human.’ I’m not sure if it’s just to reassure me I’m not dead or anything, but it’s kind of annoying.”

“H-Human? You mean, you don’t remember?”

“Not a single thing. I’m afraid I have amnesia. So back to your question…What was supposed to hur-”  I ask as I turn around, only to see a pony. I knew I must have been seeing things.

But then she talked.

“Your transformation, Travis…I mean, Shade. You wanted to be a pony.”

“I…What…But I…WHAT?!” I was freaking out, looking myself over. It was true, I was a pony. But how did this happen?

“So you do have amnesia. This is probably HER work. …I need to tell you the story, then. Of how you ended up here, in Ponyville.”

I looked at my hoof, my whole body shaking. Maybe it’s because I don’t remember anything, but did I really want this?

“I know what you’re thinking, but trust me, you asked for this.”

She sounded sincere. I placed my hoof down, and sighed.

“…Name?” I asked her.

“Twilight Sparkle. Faithful student of Princess Celestia.”

“…I feel like I can trust you. Please…tell me what happened before I lost my memories.”

Twilight smiled, and nodded.

“It all started…two months ago tomorrow, while you were still human. It was the day before you got transported here, to Equestria.”

“Wait, how do you know what I did that day?”

She blushed. “I’m a very detail-oriented pony. I like to know everything, and you didn’t really have a problem telling me what you did the day before you were brought here.”

“Oh…okay. Sorry to interrupt you.”

She smiled. “Oh no, it’s fine. I had a feeling you’d ask anyway, what with the amnesia. Anyway, it was the day before you were sent here…”

I spun in my chair, rather bored.

It was early, too early for anything new on my favorite sites or forums, so I did as usual, and went on YouTube.

Watching some of my favorite videos is still funny and all, but after about an hour, I got bored again.

I kept refreshing the forum page, but no more than two boards had any new posts in topics, and even then, it was only one or two topics. Sometimes I’d get lucky, but this wasn’t one of those times.

I had no idea what to do. With nothing to do, I wanted to watch some television or play a video game. But before that, I wanted to check my favorite fan fiction site one more time before giving up for an hour or two. As usual, my favorites hadn’t updated, but a newly uploaded story caught my eye.

‘How To Be a Pony’ they called it. A fanfic about a book that could change you into a pony, and even send you to Equestria to live the life you always wanted. What a load. I knew it was a fanfic, but they couldn’t have been a little more creative? But then I looked at the description. It wasn’t about the book, it was the book, or rather, the fanfic that claimed this. I laughed. “Well, points for originality, I guess. But man, this guy can’t be serious.” I looked at it. It had thumbs up, but no comments. And apparently, it’s been up for a while. I thought this was odd, but I decided to give it a read.

I looked at the time. Man, were those chapters long. It was very well written, I must admit, although it was no surprise it didn’t work. I wrote a comment asking if he might make another story. It stated he was online, so I decided to watch some videos while waiting for a reply.

This was insane. Over seven hours online, and not a single response?

Was I really watching videos for THAT long?

I was furious, and wanted to hit something. But I calmed myself.

“There must be a reason. Maybe he’s …no he would turn it off. What could he be doing?” I asked myself. Then a reply to my comment popped up.

“Finally!” I said.

I gave it a read.

“I apologize, but the author is no longer here. This story is the real deal man. Even now, it’s getting hard to type this out. I’m surprised the effect is taking so long on you. If you don’t believe me, just you wait. Soon, we’ll all be in Equestria.”

I scoffed. “You must be joking. How could this possibly-“

Suddenly, I felt a gust of wind from behind me. I turned around, and saw a giant wormhole in my room.

I nearly had a heart attack, and jumped in my seat.

“…What in blue blazes is THAT thing? Why is it in my room?!”

I was hyperventilating as I tried to make sense of what was happening.

'Okay…so the story was true, and the author is now there…in Equestria.'

…What nonsense. But it was there…waiting for me. It was blocking my door, so I couldn’t escape my room.

“Okay…so it’s blocking me. Not only am I freaking out, I can’t escape this. It’s like a nightmare.”

I flexed my hand. It couldn’t have been true. If it was, I would be a pony by now, like the story said.

I shook my head. “There’s no way. It’s just some story. This has to be a dream. Or something….”

I looked at the time. 9:50 PM. What a late comment. Still, I had to go to bed. I logged out of every site, and went to bed.

“I just need to keep it together. I’m seeing things, that’s all it is. Tomorrow, I’ll wake up, and everything will be normal…I hope.”

“…You’re such a fool. You’ll pay for what you’ve done…”

I woke with a gasp. I gathered my surroundings, but nothing looked familiar. I was in a place I’d never seen before. This made no sense. “Hello?” No answer. I was alone in some dark place. Looking carefully, I saw a light. “Oh, thank goodness. A way out of this…forest.” I said, as I walked towards the light. My legs felt heavier than usual, but I could walk just fine.

As I got closer to the light, things started looking familiar. But I never lived near a forest.

“Just where the heck am I?” I asked myself, as I edged closer to the light.

Finally, I got out of the forest. The light was bright, so my eyes were forced closed for a second. After opening them again, I caught my first glimpse of this strange place.

Ponyville. Fluttershy’s cottage was to my right, and I saw some ponies walking around.

“You have GOT to be kidding me.”
