Stories of Spike
That Night
Previous ChapterNext ChapterThe screaming was the worst part of it all. All she could do was watch as he continued to scream, unending and soul shattering. To her amazement, the hole in his chest sealed shut with steam gently rising from the wound, leaving only a faint scar.
Still, the screaming continued, his body lurching onto its side and splashing a bit of the blood pooled beneath him.
All at once it ended with Spike curled up in a fetal position, the air around him filled with steam.
"S-Sp..."
"Not yet Mori...Not unless ya want t' burn," Skylar warned her, standing between her and the boy. A pair of rifles were still aimed at them. Spike slowly rose to his feet, the rifles aimed at him once more.
"I was careless...I'm sorry. It won't happen again..." he spoke softly.
"Whatever kind of bullshit magic is keeping you up...A few more bullets should knock your ass back down. Don't try anything kid,"
"If you dare touch that trigger again...Your arm is mine," Spike warned. Morigan blinked and Spike was behind the rifleman, his ripped off arm hanging in his mouth. The man shrieked in terror as he clutched his gushing wound.
Spike noisily crunched down on the arm before spitting it out, his arms shifting and scales coating his cheeks. Horns slowly sprouted from his head. The second rifleman raised his gun. Spike showed less mercy this time, standing in front of Morigan and Skylar with the mans head in his clawed hand.
The body crumpled uselessly to the ground and the first gunman fainted. Whether from fear or loss of blood, no one really knew.
Spike stood there, hunched over and panting heavily while tears streamed down his cheeks. Blood soaked his hair and scales, dried into his shirt and staining his claws. Morigan slipped past Skylar, throwing her arms around the boy, clutching him close.
"S-Spike, come back to me..." she cried. Spike slowly wrapped his arms around her, his legs giving out. He glanced up at her as his horns shrank and vanished, his strength giving out as he lost consciousness.
"He..."
"He's fine Mori. Jus' tore up is all. We should gits 'im home," Skylar murmured, placing a hand on her shoulder.
"T-They had to have known...Why else would they approach us now of all times?" she trembled as she spoke.
"Jus' means we've gots our work cut out fer us Mori. Someone inside knows yer schedule, but they didn't know 'bout yer boy there," Skylar answered softly.
"His wound..."
"Dragon's are mighty sturdy Mori. Almost 'as hard t' kill as me. Give 'im time an he'll come 'round," Skylar promised. Morigan nodded, allowing him to take Spike from her. She clenched her fists, willing even the smallest spark but still nothing answered her call. She swore under her breath as she cast her gaze at the moon above.
"This...This isn't the first time he's done this...W-Why did I forget?" Morigan asked.
"Ye couldn't live wit' th' pain Mori. Ye asked me an Tia t' help ya forgets 'bout th' hurt. We warned ya, but ya couldn't take it anymores. C'mon, th' boy needs some rest."
"D-Don't...Don't let me forget again..."
"I swears it Mori."
