Chapters Red Roses and Sunshine Drops
Ting, Ting, Ting.
The clock chimes softly as Rarity brushes her hoof across the desk; her work for the day completed. She sighs as Opalescence sits in her bed and begins to sleep. The air in the boutique was nice and clear; her mind filled with broiled memories that made her cry. She felt so alone; even though she really wasn't. Everything felt so hard for her.
Ting, Ting, Ting.
The clock chimes again, her body numbing as she curls up on her desk. Her tears slid down the wooden table, and pitta-pats on the ground in harmonic tune. She thought carefully to herself as she levitates a glass of wine and brings it to herself, drinking it down slowly.
"I'm the fairest mare in Ponyville," She says through a sip of wine, "aren't I...?" She shudders and puts the glass down carefully, making her shudder yet again.
"I'm the fairest mare in Ponyville," She repeats, staring at the pony model, "aren't I...?" She sighs and rests her head on the table, listening to the wind bristle outside her window.
Ting, Ting, Ting.
She smiles at the sound of the clock, making her very sleepy. She could feel its noise trance into her brain, implanting a message. But what was the message? She tries to forget her past and she tries to sleep.
But she can't. Something won't let her.
She lifts her head, her eyes red from all the stress and work. Everything was pushing and pulling her. Everything.
But something else, something else was making her very depressed inside. Was it her because her best friends were slowly taking their own paths?
Was it because they were far away, and she was here? But, she didn't want to be anywhere else.
It was none of that: It was because she had no true love. No stallion to help her through the rest of her life and through the pain and regrets of the rest of her short life. Next thing she knew, she'd be dead, in heaven.
She cries out loud, which startles Opal. Opal hisses to tell Rarity to shut up, and Opal lays back down to sleep. Rarity sighs and rests her head again.
Ting, Ting, Ting.
The chimes remind her of her very first Grand Galloping Gala. Where she met the spoiled, rude, and snotty Prince Blueblood. Her mind removes the blurred thought of the prince before she went to the Gala.
'He's so regal, so wonderful AND the nephew of Princess Celestia! If he is, he's sure to be perfect for me!'
She mutters and smiles a little. He wasn't regal. He wasn't wonderful, and he surely wasn't perfect for her.
But the chimes didn't just remind her of Blueblood, it also reminded her of Spike. Spike...
"Such a darling, he is. " She says in a soft tone, that had a depressed feeling inched into it. Spike. He was just a baby dragon then, in love with her sparkled feature, he was kind and always did her bidding. She always felt like a princess when he did that.
But what such a pony would marry a dragon? I know he's kind, but...he's a... dragon.
The word 'Dragon' burned her lips, making her feel even more sleepy. She yawns and flutters her eyes.
One last pony. Fancypants. She had met Fancypants when she went to Canterlot for her stay; for her time of what she really truly wanted to be. She wanted to be regal. She wanted to be famous. She wanted to be the...the creme da la creme...not just another Jane Doe, waiting for the spotlight to shine on her time.
Time. Another word burns her lips and she closes her eyes.
Blueblood...Spike....Fancypants... crushing over ponies, but...but never showing her feelings...
She sighs and falls asleep on her desk, the world stilling of her presence disappearing for the hours of slumber.
I'm the fairest mare in Ponyville.
I am the fairest mare in Ponyville.
My love is not true, but are you?
***
It was just a simple remedy, she says in a hush tone.
The unicorn smiles with her morning dew wings fluttering on her back, making her look like a delicate butterfly. She kisses the white stallion on the lips, their passionate affection of love like a careful crystal of love.
But love was more to any other mare, especially for the white unicorn. Her skin bristles as the white stallion breaks the kiss and hugs her tightly.
Your everything to me, He says, you are my life...my love. My everything.
She sighs at his romantic words and kisses him yet again. She giggles softly as their tounges intertwine softly and she breaks the kiss this time.
He smiles widely at her and they rest on the top of a grassy hill; enjoying the sunset as it lullaby's them to sleep.
Everything is just right, she thinks, I wish this moment lasted forever.
The view of them nestled under a tree pauses; and then slowly fades away until all is black.
Red Roses and Sunshine Drops
Rarity wakes up to the sound of rain tinkling across her window. She sighs, remembering the wind from last night, showing signs of a storm. She smiles as the sound of rain inspires her to make a dress; a dress of blue soft silk and raindrop patterns sown about the front, and white ruffle around the neck to represent rain clouds.
She sighs again; but more happily, as if this day was going to be perfect for her. She enjoys the sound of thunder too; but Opal doesn't. Opalescence sits in the corner, scared to hear the next pounding symphony of thunder as it mellows in with the rain.
Suddenly, Rarity pricks her ears up cautiously. She hears the sound of a hoof pounding softly on her door. She pauses for a moment; and then quickly trots over to open the door.
The wind rustles the hair of the pony, and once the wind pauses for a second, she gasps to see the face of her love.
Fancypants.
"F-f-fancypants? What are you doing here, in Ponyville?!" She says in a surprised but confused tone. Fancypants chuckles and brushes his mane carefully.
"I just moved here. Err, may I come in?" He says. Rarity's jaw drops and Fancypants chuckles again as Rarity slowly nods for him to come in.
"Y-y-y-you...just moved here?!" She says, a happy giggle floating out of her mouth. He nods as she closes the door and comes over to sit with him. He stares at her with a sort of odd expression on his face.
Why is he looking at you like that, Rarity...? Fix your hair! Oh wait, fix your eyelashes- b-but he can't know about my fake eyelashes! Maybe its my squealing? Am I showing him I like him to easily?! Oh no no no...what do...maybe its my smile?! Dear Celestia I don't know!
Minutes pass of Rarity blushing and Fancypants smiling and an odd silence filling the air. Rarity flinches as Fancypants blushes slightly as well.
"Pardon Fancypants; but I've been wondering...I thought you liked Canterlot? What happened..?" She says. A frown appears on his face and the blush fades.
"Well, lots of things..maybe I should explain in story." He says with a sigh.
"Y-yes please! I mean- umm, yes, of course..." Rarity trails off at the end off her sentence. Fancypants coughs quietly and begins his story.
***
It was a very dark night for me and Fleur. We were watching in the VIP section in the Canterlot de Theater of the very old but classic show, "Annie."
Now if you haven't watched Annie, well..its about a little red-haired filly who wants to find her parents; who left her in an orphanage. I'd rather not spoil the rest; but, you get what I mean.
We were watching the end of the show when we heard what seemed to be a gunshot; coming from the theater entrance. Everypony paused; even the actors on stage looked around.
Suddenly, in a flash, a pony came in; and began to shoot everypony else in the theater. He was a pegasus, and he was very angry. I was afraid I would get killed, so I quietly but quickly galloped out of the back entrance. But I forgot somepony very important: Fleur de Lis.
She was my best friend; and now I was so sure she was gone; gone from my grasps. I was sad as I peered out to see her dead body lying by the door where I had exited.
Gone. The very special friend by my side. Dead. I knew I would see her again; but I didn't want to wait forever to see her face again.
I wanted to come and live with you; since you were the only other close pony I knew.
However, before I had urged to pack my bags, a red note was at the front of my door. It read,
To my dearest Fancypants,
I'm sorry I'm gone, I wish I didn't have to leave so soon. I wanted to be by your side as your best friend until we had no time left in our glasses. But don't try and blame yourself for the accident. You didn't want to die so soon; nor did I. I hope you understand that you were my best friend and my, well..partner in fashion. I want you to marry a special mare; who has traits like me. I wait to see you soon.
From your best friend, Fleur de Lis
I had been so heart-broken that I had lost her, but I knew you were like her and I wanted to live by your side like her. You have such similar tastes and traits in fashion.
I knew I wouldn't be alone for long.
Once I entered Ponyville; everypony greeted me with smiles and parties; I felt more welcomed than in Canterlot.
***
"And thats my story since," He says. His eyes widen however, when he notices Rarity has fallen asleep on his lap.
I want you to marry a special mare; who has traits like me.
The words burn into his mind, and he slowly drifts off into his slumber, the storm cooing him to sleep, a faint smile on his face.
A special mare.
Red Roses and Sunshine Drops
Rarity wakes up and yawns, when the light from the window glares into her eyes. She covers them quickly with her hooves and gets up to find a paper on her table. She blinks a couple of times and levitates it, her eyes flickering carefully over the writing.
To my dearest Rarity,
You fell asleep and I did not want to bother you, it seemed you were having pleasant dreams. If you want me to come over send me a letter, if possible. I can't wait to get comfortable in my home and what you ponies here say, "hang out".
From your friend, Fancypants
She holds the letter tightly and sighs happily, her heart fluttering at the delicate writing and the kind words. Suddenly, Rarity thinks she should do something for Fancypants, but she sighs and remembers Sweetie Belles soft tone and kind words.
"Miss Cheerilee always said never to sin, Rarity! Its not kind to other ponies. "
Sweetie Belle was right, but if you wanted to surprise somepony, you had to lie. What else were you supposed to do?
Rarity mutters and curses a little under her breath, and then levitates the pen and paper she had. She taps her muzzle with her hoof and then begins to write.
"To my dearest Fancypants,
I would love for you to come over but I need to work on something Opal is sick, and I needed to take her to Fluttershy to see what is wrong. I'm terribly sorry but maybe another time?
From your friend, Rarity"
Rarity reads over and sighs, and then uses her magic to send it to Fancypants.
***
Fancypants smiles as the workers bring his boxes into his house and he drinks his tea when suddenly-
Wherrrp!
A letter appears on the ground and he leviates it. He unfolds it and skims the letter and sighs. He wished he could come over and "hang out" with Rarity, but if Opal was sick, how could he confess his love?
The workers snort as the last box goes in the house, and Fancypants hands them some bits, and they nod. He thanks them again as they drive off in the carriage.
Fancypants trots into his house to admire it. It was a new, but it needed some fumigating, because he saw an occasional spider inch across the wall carefully.
He sighs again and begins to unpack, thinking about Rarity constantly.
Rarity, I love you. But how can I tell you?
***
Rarity sighs in relief as Fluttershy comes in.
"Fluttershy, dearest, I'm so glad your here!" Rarity says, levitating Opal onto Fluttershys back.
"Why did you need me to take Opal again...?" Fluttershy says in a curious tone. Raritys eyes shrink as she quickly looks around the room.
"Alright ALRIGHT! I need you take Opal because Fancypants moved into Ponyville and I lied and said Opal was sick so I could make him something and--"
"Woah! Slow down Rarity...If you need me to take Opal for lots of reasons you don't need to explain to me...But when do you want me to bring her back?" Fluttershy says.
"Just bring her back by...." Rarity spots her calender and with a marker, she circles Friday. Today was Monday, so hopefully Rarity had time.
Fluttershy nods and smiles and Rarity closes the door, sighing in relief. She mutters things and beings to start the design on what she chose, a tuxedo for Fancypants.
***
Late that night, Fancypants woke up from a horrible dream. He pants violently from it and tries to think of Rarity, but he is too tired to think of anything.
He sighs and rests his head again, hoping he could confess his love soon.
Rarity, I love you. But how can I show you?
Red Roses and Sunshine Drops
Rarity mutters from being up all night. Her hair was in a mess, and one of her eyelashes had fallen off from all the tossing and turning. She fixes her hair and fixes up the eyelashes, to make sure she looked nice. Besides, she knew it was rude to not fix herself up.
She nearly calls Opal's name when she remembered Fluttershy was taking care of Opal for her. She cuts some extra lace and pattern and she finally finishes the tuxedo.
Wow, I was quick... she thinks to herself. She puts it carefully in her room to stay safe and she sits down in the kitchen to eat breakfast.
She thinks of Sweetie Belle when she had made her breakfast, and how she had burnt the toast so badly, it was in a cup. She giggles a little as she eats the rest of her meal and drinks her coffee.
The time feels rushed though; as if something was pulling her hooves to work work work. She sighs and puts her plates in the dishes, and then checks the clock.
2:00 PM
She mutters and thinks of what to do when she remembers the inspiration of the rain dress, and begins to cut out fabric for the linen and she remembers an important date with Sweetie Belle.
I was supposed to meet her at Sugar Cube Corner a half hour ago! she thinks. She panics, the fabrics flying through the air like little airplanes.
She tosses on her coat quickly and and rushes out the door; muttering and panting violently.
"I'm late---late I cannot believe I---I'm late!" She pushes through ponies quickly.
"Watch where you going!" cries a blue Earth pony.
"Hey; you nearly made me spill my drink!" yells a purple pegasus. Rarity dares not to look back, she continues to gallop through town, her hooves clicking against the pavement. She notices Sweetie Belle sitting outside Sugar Cube Corner and she speeds up; when suddenly a young filly and colt dart into the road.
"W--w---watch out!" Rarity yelps, skidding on her hooves, creating red blisters and swelling her hooves. She yelps again at the pain as the filly and colt quickly run across the street; and slowly she halts to a stop. Only one problem:
She's face-to-face with her disappointed sister, Sweetie Belle.
***
"I-I can explain, Sweetie-"
"No, you can't," Interrupts Sweetie Belle, "I can't believe your late, like always." Rarity giggles awkwardly as she turns around to see angry ponies staring at her. She smiles awkwardly at them, and then turns to Sweetie Belle quickly.
"Why d-don't we go inside." She says softly, her hooves stinging. She jumps up from a biting pain of the swelling and she sighs.
"Okay, fine, whatever..." Sweetie Belle trails off as she goes into Sugar Cube Corner, with Rarity following behind.
***
"So, how's Collage been, Sweetie Belle?" Rarity says through a sip of tea. Sweetie drinks her tea, and nods, and then says,
"Its been great so far, but I can't believe I have to go to a separate collage, away from Applebloom and Scootaloo. It kind of sucks." Sweetie Belle sighs, and then begins to eat her cupcake.
"Well, I know its not fun, but that is the way it has to be: Unicorns in a force-fielded Collage, Pegasi in a cloud Collage, and Earth ponies in a regular Collage." Rarity says.
"I know, I know how it goes," She says through a mouthful, "but I just can't wait to see them again..."
"What if they go on their own and make new friends?" Rarity questions, checking her hooves again. Sweetie Belle spits out her cupcake remains and yells.
"That can't be true! I don't want it to be true!"
"Now Sweetie Belle, your acting like a foal. I know you want to be in denial; but you have to face the facts." Rarity says. Suddenly, Pumpkin Cake comes trotting in.
"Is umm...everything all right in here..? Can I umm...get you anything else?" She asks.
"No thanks, we're good." They both say.
"Oh, um...alright then. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask...alright?" Rarity and Sweetie Belle both nod and Pumpkin Cake goes back into the kitchen.
"Well, this has been just darling, but...I need to get going." Rarity says, getting up from her chair.
"Really? Your going to leave that soon? Geesh, I didn't know you hated me so much.." Sweetie Belle sighs.
"Now Sweetie Belle! I do not tolerate your rudeness, I have business to erm...attend to!" Rarity says.
"Oh really...?" Sweetie Belle says, inching her face closer to Rarity's. Rarity squirms and she panics.
"I just have business to attend to, alright?!" Rarity yelps, galloping out the door quickly to get back home.
"Alright...fine..." Sweetie Belle says, with a sigh.
***
Rarity shakes her head over and over.
"No no no! This can't be happening!" She squeaks.
Her hair was tangled up violently as she tries to comb through it. Suddenly, the brush gets grabbed and glued into her hair and she begins to scream.
"MY HAIR! MY HAIR HAIR HAIR! "
"Shut up over there! I'm trying to take a nap!" Yells her neighbor.
Rarity begins to try and comb again when another comb but that gets tangled in too. Rarity begins to panic.
Stay calm Rarity, just take a shower...it will all be fine... herself tells her.
Rarity hops in the shower, and rinses her hair with water, making the combs drop out. Rarity sighs in relief as she gets out of the shower and puts on her evening gown.
She lays on her couch and thinks of what to do the next day, when she gets an idea.
I'll ask Fancypants to go on a picnic with me.
