1: Drinks with the Butters

It was a seemingly normal start of the day for Rarity at the Carousel Boutique. She had just finished with her morning rituals of breakfast and personal hygiene and was about to enjoy a day away from her dress commissions and spending time selling her ‘standard’ dresses. Those plans were derailed the second her door opened with a slam.

“RarityRarityRarityRarity!” Yelled and repeated a pink blur as it bounced around the shop, nearly breaking windows and knocking over the various dress stands and mannequins.

“PINKIE PIE!” Rarity bellowed as she used her magic to simultaneously shield the windows, stabilize her merchandise, and catch the ballistic missile of a pink party pony. After she set Pinkie down on her vibrating hooves, the marshmallow white unicorn gave her a glare. “Didn’t I tell you to not do that in my shop!?”

Pinkie stopped vibrating and took a thoughtful pose. “One hundred and fifty-six times,” she said with an oblivious look on her face. “But if you count you asking me that, then that’s one hundred and fifty-seven times.” She gave a smile with a slight ‘squee’ sound.

Rarity took a deep inhale and slowly exhaled while moving her hand in a pushing motion. “You misunderstand my point, but what brings you here this early in the morning?”

“Well a new family moved into Ponyville and I was about to prepare a surprise-yet-not-surprise welcome party for them, but the mother somehow kept me from doing that and wanted a private and more calm get-together with me, one of my friends, and her three adult children while she is off on work,” Pinkie said in one breath.

An awkward silence filled the boutique for a few minutes before Rarity broke it. “So, what gave you the thought to tell me all of this?” She asked.

Pinkie had a brief confused look before it changed to realization. “Oh! It’s because the mother said that her family is a small branch off of the “Butter” Noble Clan, and I thought you would know more about that than me.” Pinkie smiled for a bit, before offhandedly saying, “Also, you are one of the ponies who knows more about the calm get-togethers than I usually do.”

After the first sentence sunk into Rarity’s mind, her eyes began to glitter in excitement. “Then thank the Stars that I decided to dress in my semi-formal, business attire today!” She said, stepping back to allow Pinkie to see the frilly, yet conservative dress she was wearing. In contrast, Pinkie was wearing a short skirt and a pink tank-top that made it difficult to see where the cloth ended and her fur and skin began. “I can look fabulous and professional as we talk with the new family and maybe offer free first-time outfits for her children.”

“Sounds like an idea,” Pinkie said cheerfully as she hopped over to the door. “I’ll see you there in a few minutes, and don’t worry about bringing anything other than yourself...and don’t be thinking dirty.”

“I’ll be there,” Rarity said, before she paused in thought. “Umm, where is the Butter residence?”

“Oh, you remember that mansion that was moved towards the edge of town and enlarged to almost rival Twilight’s Castle?” Pinkie asked, getting a nod from the fashion pony. “That’s the place. See ya! Bye!” The pink party pony exclaimed and vanished in a puff of pink dust.

(A few minutes later)

The two ponies approached the enlarged mansion with a combination of excitement and awe. “You weren’t kidding when you said it almost rivals Twilight’s Castle.” Rarity commented.

“I know,” Pinkie said with a smile as she hopped to the doorbell. With a quick tap, she pressed the doorbell and moved back to Rarity’s side.

A short minute passed before a standard sized door opened from the giant front door of the giant mansion. What greeted them was a light purple unicorn with a darker purple mane and tail. His muzzle shape identified the unicorn as male, and he wore a set of square rimmed glasses, a white t-shirt and denim shorts. “Oh, hi,” the unicorn said a bit shyly. “Mom said we’d be getting visitors...umm, you’re Pinkie Pie, right?” He looked to the pink pony as he asked the question.

“Yeppers Peppers!” She joyfully answered. “And this-” She placed her arm over Rarity’s shoulders. “-Is one of my bestest friends, Rarity.”

“A pleasure to meet you darling,” Rarity said, giving the unicorn a curtsey-bow which got him to blush a bit.

“Yeah, and, umm, I’m Midnight Dasher,” he stumbled out before opening the door a bit wider. “Uh, come in and make yourselves comfortable on the guest chairs. I’ll be right back and with some drinks. We were expecting you, but you showed up bit sooner than expected, and my sister just started a stream a few minutes before you showed up.”

“Ooooh!” Pinkie said, pulling out her phone and tapping the screen a few times. “What’s her channel?”

“It’s BigHamaria8000, but I think it would be better for you to meet her personally rather than just watching her stream,” Midnight said.

“Just a quick note and...there!” Pinkie said as she finished tapping her phone and then put it away and bounced into the mansion with Rarity behind her. “And I know. I just wanted to note the channel so I can watch her streams in the future.”

“Okay,” Midnight said with a small sigh of relief. “Anyway, drinks, umm...yeah, be right back.” He quickly left the entry hall and into the general direction of the kitchen, leaving Pinkie and Rarity to go the opposite direction from him and into the family room.

Upon entering said room, Rarity and Pinkie were shocked at the size of the couch. “My word!” Rarity exclaimed in shock. “That is large enough to be the size of a small apartment!”

“Maybe they just like giant comfy seats for giant guests?” Pinkie suggested as she found a smaller seat across a large coffee table. “I mean, you’ve seen Celestia and Luna. Who’s to say they are the only ones that size or close to it?”

“Pinkie!” Rarity began to reprimand the pink pony. “We don’t talk about a lady’s weight that callously!”

“Don’t say that around Big Sis,” a new male voice said behind her, briefly scaring a short squeal out of her. Turning around, she was met with a golden yellow earth pony with a spikey, pale yellow mane and tail. He was wearing a red t-shirt that said '1Up', and a set of tan, khaki shorts.

Rarity was quick to recover from the scare and moved for him and Midnight to enter with the drinks. Midnight had a tray with 4 differently colored drinks on it, and the earth pony had a soda can-shaped barrel on his back that was as tall as he was and roughly two to three times wider than he was.

“Apologies for the scream, you took me by surprise,” she explained.

“It’s okay,” the earth pony said, with a slight shrug as he set the giant barrel down and then stretched. “Loud noises are common in this house, so much so, that the outer walls and my sister’s room is heavily insulated and soundproofed. Anyway, the name’s Otakas.” He extended a hand out for Rarity to take, which she did and he gently shook it. He then extended it to Pinkie and she did so as well.

“What do you have to drink?” Pinkie asked.

“Well, didn’t know what you wanted, so I just whipped together a few non-alcoholic drinks as soon as I could,” Otakas said, as Midnight set down the tray and grabbed a glass filled with a red drink. “Midnight prefers strawberry juice. I’m more partial to kiwi flavor water. As for you two, I made a pineapple juice drink, while the other is (and I’m not sure what possessed me to do it) watered down pine sap mixed with apple juice.” He pointed to a golden drink and an odd amber and green swirled drink respectively.

“Don’t mind if I do,” Pinkie said, grabbing the amber and green drink while Rarity took the golden one. “And is that for refills?” She pointed to the barrel with the question.

“That’s actually for our land-whale of a sister,” Otakas casually said with a dismissive wave. “And don’t do the ‘lady’s weight’ lecture. She’s far from one and she’s proud of it.”

“Speaking of your sister, why so much secrecy about her?” Rarity asked.

“Well, you see...umm,” Midnight sputtered out in slight embarrassment.

“You’ll find out in three….two….one….” Otakas counted down. After he finished, the house light’s flickered briefly and the house suddenly shook on it’s foundations from a paradoxically shrill, yet deep shout in rage.

“Celestia Damn It, Otakas!” The voice bellowed out, as the ground began to shake and a large shape came into view from the top of the mansion stairs. Rarity’s mouth almost dropped to the floor as she and Pinkie saw a fifteen foot tall, and morbidly obese earth pony walk into view with a round, yet rage filled look on her face. The earth pony was grey with a darker grey mane and tail, and was wearing black clothing and an oddly flexible spiked choker on her neck. “How many times have I told you to not to sabotage my streams, especially when it’s getting good!?”

“More than enough times for you to know it will be inevitable that it’ll happen,” Otakas said, as if he wasn’t being given a death glare from a behemoth of a pony. “By the way, Hambone, I did tell you we would be having guests and not to start a stream until the visit is over or it is clear that the visit isn’t gonna happen today.”

The giant pony, Hambone, kept her glare on the smaller pony before nodding and carefully took a seat next to the two smaller ponies on the couch. “I can’t argue with that explanation, especially since lying isn’t your thing, you stick figure,” She muttered out loud. She took notice of the barrel and gave a near predatory grin toward Otakas. “I see you got out one of the beers for me.”

“Well, I at least had to have something to cool that temper under all that thick blubber, you blimp-butt blubber blob,” he shot back as she lifted the barrel and opened the top off of it.

As the sibling banter continued, Rarity leaned close to Pinkie and whispered, “I’m not sure if I’m enjoying seeing the possibilities of her giant body for what I can do, or if I’m regretting thinking the many ways I could go bankrupt just covering her to begin with.”
