Twi and I
Ch. 1 Nirn
Previous ChapterNext ChapterAuthor's Note
Ok a few things, first I changed the other short chapter to rather be a sneak peek so I can have this story submitted even though it might be at least two chapters away before Naila and Twilight meet. That being said it won't be too long. Also since I don't wish to copy the game to a 'T' I'm making changes to it here and there, however I hope that I leave enough from the game for the feel of it.
Enjoy

Ch. 1 Nirn
Nirn, Present
I look up from the floor where my gaze had wandered while I was thinking back to how I got here. I look over the table towards the kitchen of my new home in Whiterun. As the two Nords finish up their dishes, for me to decided which was the better cook. I honestly have no idea how it came to be this, a cooking competition, between the two childhood friends almost brothers. Or how I ended up being the judge for the food though it wasn't surprising since over the past week while I've been off trying to save the world these two have been finding more and more weird ways to prove that they are better than the other.
Grinning victoriously the duo move from their cooking spits towards me at the table with their dishes covered in clean white cloth. Making me blink as I had yet to see pure white cloth anywhere in this world yet, but before I could ask where they got those pieces of cloth they set their dishes down before me and pull the cloth away to show two very different dishes. When they both agreed to cook the same meal.
On my left is a mess of a dish that looks like something Akane Tendo would make, that image is only reinforced by the prideful smile Ralof is shooting Hadvar. On my right is the dish like it is meant to look like only if some supreme being had made it and pushed it past perfect into the divine. Before I could make a comment on either dish the former rebel urges me to taste his first and that compared to Hadvar's food his would be the winner after just one bite.
So without anyway out of this that I could see I gulp and pull his meal to in front of my seat and hesitantly with shaky hands I begin to raise a spoonful of the food towards my mouth. As the spoon nears my lips as sweat beads on my forehead there is a sudden pounding on the door to the home. Shakily I stand and say I'll answer it, stepping away hurriedly from the two as they begin to argue once more.
As I smooth out my fur of my toned stomach while I approach the door, I am able to calm myself from that harrowing experience of almost being poisoned, again, by Ralof's cooking. Quickly opening the door I find one of the new guards shuffling looking rather frantic before he sees it was me who answered the door. Snapping off a quick salute by forming his right hand into a fist and thumping it over his heart, which I return, I ask what's wrong.
He hurriedly begins, "Thane, the Jarl demands your presence in Dragons Reach at once as a dragon has been spotted near by at the Western Watch Tower." With that he has my attention but he doesn't say any more rather he rushes off to the keep probably expecting me to follow. So turning to the two men by the table as I reach for my bow and quiver I call to them. "Hey get your gear and meet me at the keep" Before I step outside and begin to briskly jog up the streets of Whiterun towards the Jarl's home.
As the steel rings on the joints of my armor jingle with each step I think to myself, 'You just had to tempt the gods and beg them for something to happen' as I rush past the market and up the steps towards the revived gildergleam I can see guards rushing about to and from the keep some likely to man the defenses while the others to complete their missions. Soon I reach the top of the long set of steps to Dragons Reach and enter the hall where I am directed upstairs and to the Jarl and his housecarl along with another fresh-faced guardsman.
The Jarl and housecarl nod to me before promoting the guard to explain what was going on beyond a dragon was spotted near the watchtower. "Yes my Jarl, it had come from the south fast, faster than anything I'd ever seen." Irrelith asks if it was attacking the watchtower "No, housecarl, it was just circling overhead when I left I thought it would come after me for sure" Nodding Jarl Bulgref tells the new guard to go to the barracks and get something to eat and rest for now, before turning towards Irrelith and I.
As he does he nods to Hadvar and Ralof who had been accompanying me on many of my journies on Nirn and the three of us had become a known group of trouble solvers. "Irrelith take your contingent of guards along with our Thane and her group to the watchtower and find out more of what is going on. I have a very bad feeling that in the time since it was spotted the dragon has rained much death on the men of the tower."
The four of us nod and set off for the main gates after the dark elf informs the Jarl that she had already told them to muster at the main gate. Quickly the four of us make our way back down into the city and to the main gate where a small detachment of guards awaited us. Stopping for a moment Irrelith tells the three of us to go ahead and scout the watchtower. So as we were leaving the city we could hear the dark elf give a fiery speech to the guards to boost their morale.
The three of us quickly made our way down the path to the city's stables and turned right down the road. Now while the men's armor looked like actual armor that would protect them mine was very skimpy and revealing showing much of my bare fur to the world. But thanks to Sheogorath's magic it still protects as fine as the men's armor which I have learned well over the past week since Helgan.
So jogging down the road we can see black smoke rising from the watchtower putting grim looks on our faces as we near enough to see the damage and that it seems not a soul was spared the horrible death. With before this would have been to much for me I've already seen many gruesome things and the smell of death and burning flesh are not new to me now. Moving to hide behind a large set of rocks in view of the road from the city so Irrelith would see us, we hunkered down and waited for her and the slower group to arrive. All the while keeping our eyes to the sky for the dragon responsible for this.
