It's funny just how absurd the things you see around you may be. I am fairly certain the Ancients never predicted any of this, and would laugh in our face if we had the chance to tell them about our world. To think that alicorns were once respected and venerated as divine incarnations, a species of higher value. Nowadays, anypony could become an alicorn if they wanted to. Nopony cares anymore. Bathing in their pride and beauty, they often forget just how much sacrifice the Ancients had to go through to make this future possible.

These days, I feel like I am the only one who understands how hard it must be for the Princesses. They poured flesh and blood into building this kingdom, so many millenniums ago. One day, they were on top of the world, proud to stand guard over the land they built. Then, all of a sudden, the ponies cast them aside like they were nothing. Nopony cared about them having both wings and horn. Why would they? Anypony could, at just a simple payment away.

It's sad just how few people know the truth. Yesterday, a friend of mine asked me to be a substitute for his college class. Of course, I agreed. That day, they were having a lecture about Equestrian history. Since the subject in question was one of my majors, I gave the lesson myself. Never had I felt more sorrow, than in that very classroom, when fully developed ponies asked me: "What's an earth pony?" It was even more pitiful when I saw he was an earth pony himself, but had been granted a pair of artificial wings by science. Later, I discovered it was an honest question. Not only that, but many other ponies were left confused by my lecture.

In this world, there were no need for earth ponies. Actually, let me rephrase that; earth ponies can't survive in this world. We live on islands, floating thousands of miles above the surface. If one could fly or use magic, then they couldn't go anywhere. While I understand where the ignorance comes from, I'm still shocked by the fact that it exists.

Who am I kidding? I sound like a hypocrite saying these things. I am a Falsicorn myself, though not by choice. I couldn't possibly understand why my parents wanted me to be a Falsicorn. Maybe it's because of my family name. My parents always showered me in applause for my accomplishments, and let their hooves rain on me for my failures. "Perfection is the only outcome. Failure is not to be associated with our family name. It is better to let your failures consume you, than to carry on the burden of shame." Those were the principles my family has lived by for many generations. I guess that's why they wanted me to be a Falsicorn; so I may sit on the same level as the Princesses.

Carrying the Maverick name isn't easy. I am expected to be the best at everything I do, no matter how futile it may seem. I have learned the consequences of failure, one beating after another. There was no way to avoid the pain, for the ponies of this society refuse to believe in domestic violence. They are convinced harm among one's peers is a thing of the past, that we as Neo-Equestrians, have risen above such futile things. In truth, I see this world and its ponies as the failures. Implants aren't real. No matter how hard you try to convince me, I refuse to believe that these small, metal beams encrusted in my back are wings. No, throwing a couple of large feathers on the end does not help.

I never understood why suddenly, somepony decided to turn Equestria into a series of floating islands, miles above the cloud cover. What the heck what so dangerous that we had to leave the surface world? Did we create these islands out of sheer will? Were we strong-armed into making this world what it is? If only there was a way to know why everything is what it is now... Alas, it's not like we can go back in time, and ask the Ancients why.
