Heads up, BUWH

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

1,000 years ago, King Sombra conquered the Crystal Empire. Every pony who lived in the empire were forced to follow King Sombra's commands. Now, this legend is about an ordinary young filly who lived with a ordinary family. Her family didn't have something special except that they all family members lived in one place.

"Another day came. Although it is weekend, we need to work, just work." The filly's grandfather said.

"You remember the rules, right? Do not speak anything bad aboout the King. He has absolute power, you know." The filly's grandmother said.

"Do we have to go? Wasn't it our freedom to choose whether we go out and work?" The filly asked her family.

Her father shook his head. "We do want to spend a free time. That is our wish. But we're sorry we can't. King Sombra is watching at us! And do you know what happens if we get caught that we aren't working?"

"What happens? Do we all die?" The filly asked.

"Yes, we do. Most tyrannical rulers put the disobeying ponies to death." Her father said.

"We don't even have enough power to cause a revolution to defeat him. We are just a normal family with a normal life." Her mother continued.

"Let's go! What are waiting for? Unless you are waiting to die, we must go to the labor place!" The filly's grandfather said. His other family members followed him. The filly followed her grandfather, too.

At the outside, the filly witnessed ponies walking around the castle. But they aren't just walking. They had chains connected to each other in their hooves.

"Dad, why do those ponies have chain in their hooves? Is there a reason? Why can't they be free?" The filly asked. She never saw other ponies doing such thing.

"It's the law. King Sombra legalized slavery. You know what slavery means, right? It means that we are automatically slaves and we must work for the whole life." Her father said.

"What? No! I don't want to work! I just don't want to! Um, let's escape from here! Probably our house would be much safer." The filly tried to run away. However, her grandfather grabbed her tail so she can't run away.

"If you see above, you will find out the reason why we can't run away from here." He said.

The filly looked up. She saw somebody standing in the castle and watching the ponies in chains.

"Who is that?" She asked.

"You don't even know him? Boy, looks like we're in big trouble. That's King Sombra, the current ruler of this empire." Her grandmother said.

"King what? King Sombrero you say?" The filly asked again.

"King Sombra! That's his name!" Her grandmother said in a louder voice.

"C'mon, everypony! Work! Work! Work!" Her grandfather said once again.

Suddenly, chains flew down to the family and it tied their hooves tight. It was soon connected at each other.

"What's happening? What is this metal thingy?" The filly asked.

"It's a tool that keeps you away from freedom. We must walk to the direction where other ponies are going right now." Her mother said. And the family, including the filly kept walking.

The filly felt something strange happening right near her. First of all, the ponies weren't saying a single word. She expected ponies to talk and chat at each other. Second, they weren't happy at all. They were making either sad or frustrated facial expressions. And lastly, their heads were down. They didn't look up.

The filly wondered what she could do. King Sombra didn't even commanded them to put their heads down. It was just because of the emotions coming from them. If they were happy to work, they would put their heads up.

'The Sun is always in the sky at daytime. But why won't these ponies look up to get enough light? If they put their heads up, they could feel happiness by the sunlight. The Sun is always here for ponies like us. Should I put my head up?' She thought.

The filly looked around. She couldn't find a single pony with his or her heads up. If she put her head up, she would be deemed as a strange pony by others. But if she didn't, she would way to hopeless.

'Let's just put my head up! I want to feel the sunlight! I want to show what hope is! I want to make a revolution!' She slowly put her head up into the air. Soon, she became the one and only pony to raise her head.

King Sombra was keeping looking at the ponies. Everypony stayed the same, almost. He found the filly putting her head up.

King Sombra's eyes wide-opened and kept staring at the filly. How is this even possible?

The mare right in front of the filly looked backwards. She saw the filly with her head up. She was speechless. Other ponies kept seeing at the filly with her head pointing up. Soon all ponies began to see her. Everypony stopped to see her. They didn't speak a single word to her.

"What? Did I do something wrong? Is it because I am too ugly? Or is it because I am putting my head up in the air? It's just because the Sun is always in the air but none of you are looking at it. I just want to show you what hope is." The filly said confidently.

The mare who was right in front of the filly pointed her with her hoof.

"This here filly is a very special pony!" She said.

"What should we call her?" Another mare said.

"How about Be Upright With Hope?" A stallion asked.

"Then let's shorten it! BUWH it is!" The filly's grandfather said.

Everypony cheered at his words. BUWH, that was the filly's new nickname. The filly liked her new name, BUWH. She wanted to keep it forever and ever.

The other ponies cheered, calling BUWH's name multiple times. "BUWH! BUWH! Cheer for BUWH!"

And BUWH said, "Don't worry, everypony! I will make sure that I would make this empire into a peaceful and democratic society!"

Then the other ponies kept cheering even harder than before.

BUWH thought about what she can do to other ponies. And she knew what do do.
