Chapters Prologue: A Matter of Inconvenience
Starlight had to admit that of all the times she had misjudged a situation, this was the worst as far as repercussions. Neither Chrysalis nor Twilight had had any idea that while they did their little song and dance together, a certain unicorn had been watching over them like the most ineffectual guardian angel.
Starlight had, much to her credit, never really trusted Chrysalis and her so called 'conversion'. It was all so convenient, and in the end was too much of the perfect story for it to actually be real. Sure, some ponies had rightfully pointed that out about her in the past - as well as for Trixie - but in the end Starlight knew herself and had room to doubt another creature.
When idly casting a scry spell after being alerted by another spell that Chrysalis had entered closer proximity with another pony, Starlight found herself watching a session of hypnosis. It was... disconcerting, to say the least. It was almost exactly what Starlight would've done if she had actually faked her own conversion - it also was something she had considered doing to make things easier on herself at times, but she had always had held out... except that one time.
And then there was that other time.
Then again, some ponies might count that other time.
The point was that Starlight didn't intercede immediately due to an understanding that sometimes a girl just had to hypnotize her mentor in hopes of getting said mentor off her back. It was a piece of common history, one might say. A sort of divergent evolution of tactics that didn't necessarily mean the changeling meant anything untoward or nefarious.
And then the changeling began to fuck Twilight senseless while disguised as Celestia.
Starlight instantly prepared a teleportation spell to leap into the fray, but then she paused. What if it was a friendship lesson in disguise? What if Twilight actually was having short term fun in addition to preparing to teach the changeling a long term lesson? It could happen - stranger things had come to pass before, so why not now?
Over the course of the next few months, Starlight would occasionally get pings from a more specific spell that indicated Twilight was the pony Chrysalis had approached. Each time, Starlight brought up a scry spell, and each time she watched as somehow Twilight was put into a trance. It certainly didn't help that her scry spell initially lacked sound, so there was little way of telling the mechanism the changeling was using.
Time passed, and as Starlight finally figured out how to include an element of sound that only allowed for her to hear the subject she scried on and not the other way around, she was allowed to witness a more... complete picture.
"Very good, my faithful student, now for today's first lesson." Celestia's voice said through the open scry spell. Starlight picked up a notepad in her magic, furiously scribbling abbreviated notes as she watched and waited. "The Queen may do with her property as she wishes. There is nothing that the Queen cannot do with her property. By definition, all that she owns is hers, and what is hers can have whatever she wants done to it. Am I understood?"
"Yes, my Queen, my first lesson today is that my Queen may do whatever she wishes with her property without exception. This is right and proper." Twilight replied in a cheerful voice as she stared on Celestia's form with a little more interest than Starlight had ever noted from her friend.
"Very good, and now for your second lesson." Chrysalis in Celestia's body said. "Now, I want you to prepare yourself for today's second lesson. For this cause, I want you to tell me your lessons thus far, my faithful student. Use them to bolster your resolve and to help you more readily receive what is to come."
"Yes, my Queen. My First Lesson: Celestia is my Queen. Lesson Two: I obey my Queen. Lesson Three: I cannot disobey my Queen. Lesson Four: I love my Queen. Lesson Five: I lust for my Queen." Twilight said, as though simply reciting a list of basic facts. Starlight, however, froze up, her quill halting on the paper as she listened to the mare she had grown to know as anything but sexual.
"Lesson Six: my embarrassment arouses me. Lesson Seven: Before I sleep I must masturbate to the thought of my Queen. I will clean up the mess and then fall asleep to dream of my Queen. Lesson Eight: my Queen may do as she wishes with her property without exception." Starlight found herself stunned by this. She wasn't sure what to make of it all.
Here Twilight was, willingly - at least by appearances - saying such... wonderfully depraved things! It was beyond the Twilight Starlight knew to think of such things, and here she was reciting them openly! Starlight didn't even notice as her one forehoof migrated a tad closer to the space between her hindlegs.
"Well done, my faithful student, and now for your second lesson of the day." Chrysalis said, creating a poignant sense of anticipation in Starlight as she watched and listened. "You, my faithful student, are my property." Starlight dropped the notepad in shock.
Instead of rushing over to the room and ending the deception, though, Starlight couldn't help but find herself so incredibly aroused that all she could do was masturbate as she watched. Whatever Chrysalis intended, her way of going about it was hitting all sorts of buttons in Starlight. It made her tingle with need and pant with lust. She wanted so very desperately to be in Chrysalis' place, to tame the wild mare in Twilight, but instead she was getting to live it vicariously.
Twilight, of course, would be fine! She had had this well under control from the beginning and hadn't made a single mistake! She had to have some sort of safety protocol that had already been activated and she was just riding this wave - seeing if perhaps Chrysalis was just a bit peckish and was using her for a reliable food source.
That was it! Twilight was letting herself be the willing food source for a desperate changeling! It was just that simple, of course! It was all play all along, no doubt about it. Twilight was sacrificing of her own energies to ensure that there were no other ponies being harmed by the changeling - especially those without the skills Twilight had to fight off the more nefarious effects of a changeling.
Starlight moaned in satisfaction, pleased with both her own ability to deduce Twilight's wonderful masterstroke of a plan while also having some wonderful material primed for her own personal pleasure.
And so she watched on, week after week and month after month. Sometimes she'd have no new shows for long stretches of time and would have to use a memory repeating spell to rewatch old shows. Her favorite by far was when Chrysalis had Twilight licked the floor.
Sure enough, just like the changeling had ordered, every day after that show there was an hour or two were Starlight would get a ping on a specialized spell that told her Twilight was alone in her room and that the door was locked. Like clockwork, Starlight would find a moment and open her scrying spell to find the Princess of Equestria licking her floor clean while walking backwards so as to lick up her own dripping arousal.
She just loved it all, and loved that Twilight would let it go on for so long! She must've gotten a kick out of leading the changeling on and on, or perhaps the alicorn too was enjoying it to some extent. The arousal that dripped from Twilight whenever she licked her floor and the sheer awestruck devotion in her eyes when attending Chrysalis in Celestia's form seemed to speak of such.
It was of a minor concern to Starlight as she noticed Twilight slowly shifting to a darker color - something more readily noticed when viewing older show and then seeing Twilight in person mere moments later. Starlight simply chalked it up to the process of maturing as an alicorn. Perhaps colors turned a tad bit. There was no reason at the time to sound any sort of alarm.
Especially since it involved bringing forward evidence that consisted of Twilight in her intimate moments. That certainly wouldn't look good for Starlight when she did such a thing. Besides, beyond the color change, there was nothing to worry about. Twilight had it all under control and Starlight could just sit back and watch.
Things, however, changed when Starlight got a late night ping of Chrysalis and Twilight's proximity that had roused her from a deep sleep. She didn't feel like watching late night porn, but did activate her scrying spell just in case so that she could watch. She faded in an out of sleep - and for most of the time it seemed as though they were doing their dirty deeds without any light.
The few times she heard a voice, she could only catch so much - having been disturbed from her sleep at such a late hour. Suddenly, she heard a piercing cry that tore her from the brink of sleep that she had teetered on.
"I LUST FOR MY QUEEN!" The voice cried desperately, bringing Starlight to enough wakefulness to pay some actual attention. She blessed the foresight she had had in making the audio only play in her mind - otherwise the conversation with Trixie might've gone a bit... sideways. Perhaps a tad up and down, depending on the unicorn's mood.
The part that caught Starlight off guard was the fact that it wasn't Twilight's voice. It was most certainly another pony, one that her sleep addled brain was having a hard time placing though it dangled off the tip of her tongue.
"MY EMBARASSEMENT AROUSES ME!" The voice cried again, this time clearly for Starlight to hear who it was.
Luna?
Why was Luna repeating the lessons? What in the world was going on? Was Chrysalis reinforcing the lessons by pretending to be Luna and having Twilight teach them to her? Certainly there was no chance that it was actually Luna, right? RIGHT‽
Quietly getting out of be, even as she continued to monitor the scrying spell, Starlight scoured her personal book collection - quickly finding what she was after as Luna's voice cried out once more. "I WILL MASTURBATE TO MY QUEEN EVERY NIGHT AND EAT MY OWN CUM BEFORE GOING TO SLEEP!"
It made Starlight search over the runes even faster. A second later she cast the alteration to her scrying spell, providing herself a view with night vision applied. The world she looked out on was still dark, but with the additional spell activated, she could not place certain details.
The group was in a forest clearing somewhere. The view gave no sense of landmarks, not that Starlight wanted to find them just yet - she needed to know what the situation was before jumping to conclusions that might lead somewhere she didn't want to end up. As far as she could tell then, it was Twilight pleasure Chrysalis who had taken Luna's form for the evening in a somewhat more public setting. It was a step for Chrysalis, and possibly the last Twilight would let her take.
Then She noticed the changeling.
There Chrysalis was, standing in the clearing to the side, bold as day. She was there, in her natural form, watching over the display. She was watching the display. She... she was there, which meant that... but how?
Starlight's mind raced a thousand miles a minute as she tried to put together what was happening. Suddenly, everything had become far more confusing, and were only progressing towards the worse. She was helpless to watch, but to dumbfounded to listen, as Chrysalis bent over Twilight and whispered words of encouragement and instruction.
All at once, with startling clarity, Twilight's lack of power became eminently obvious. The world seemed to crash as Starlight realized with a rising horror that Twilight had never been in control. Twilight had been taken wholly by Chrysalis who was now putting into place the final stage of her plan, and all Starlight could do was watch in silent horror as a friend became something she was never meant to be.
Starlight found herself facing a choice as she sat there, unsure of what the world held. She could either accept defeat and roll over or she could get on her hooves and start making something of the situation. She was too far away to act instantaneously - the teleportation necessary to get her there in one jump would be so draining she'd be useless against Chrysalis with all that love energy floating around her.
Her decision was made when Trixie, bleary-eyed and only half awake, stumbled into the room.
That changeling bitch wanted to try and take over Equestria? She wanted to try and make Twilight her thrall? She thought she could get away with dominating two of Equestria's princesses? Well...
Starlight would just have to show her what for.
"And you just watched, is that right?" Trixie asked, rubbing a hoof across her face while letting her coffee cool off slightly. "Geeze, Glimmer, never knew you to be such a fuck up." Trixie chuckled, no sign of her onstage persona in the thoroughly at ease pony.
"How many times have you known Twilight to not have any backups or contingencies?" Starlight asked. Trixie paused, pursed her lips, and then shrugged with a nod, acknowledging the point. "Exactly! She has always been prepared in the past so I figured that she had this one under control as well! The whole 'act like you've been bamboozled to see how far they'll go with it' routine! Ends up, no! She was honest to goodness fully under Chrysalis' control - no holds barred! Just straight up the fucker's slave!"
"Fuck..." Trixie muttered. "Sounds like you really screwed the bitch on this one." She said with a chipper smile.
"Trixie, so help me, unless you start taking this seriously I will hit you over the head with a tire iron."
"And I thought I woke up on the wrong side of the bed today..." Trixie paused when Starlight lit her horn and produced the cart's more than slightly heavy tire iron from the toolbox. "Look, Starlight, I'm not sure what you want from me! I'm a world class magician , not a world class mage . One attends foal's birthday parties and earns ten bits an hour, the other solves world ending catastrophe's for elevenses."
"I want you to take this seriously!" Starlight hissed, setting the iron on the table between them. "We're cancelling the rest of you're tour and heading straight for Canterlot. We'll pull the cart constantly and have the automatic locomotion spell on the rest of the time. We should make it to Griffonstone in about a week. From there we can-"
"Woah woah woah, Shimmer, we can't just cancel the tour. We got at least two dozen more gigs! The venues are paid for - with my money no less - and half of them won't give a smidgen back!" Trixie said, tempted to use the tire iron herself.
"Yes we can cancel!" Starlight insisted, taking the iron in her magic before any smart moves could be made. "Once at Griffonstone I'm teleporting us off to Manehatten - from there we're taking the train back to Canterlot."
"And where, pray tell, is my cart in this arrangement?"
"If you care for it a lot - on a paid lot for the duration of our business back in Equestria. If you care about your wallet more - under a bunch of bushes and leaves." Starlight said with no sense of humor to her voice. Trixie paused, thinking the options over for a moment before speaking up.
"Are you offering to help gather the foliage?"
"The Great and Powerful Trixie , is thoroughly disappointed with the local shrubbery." TGP Trixie groaned, looking over the sparsely covered wagon that was nestled into a crag in the rock face. "However, it will have to do for the next few weeks as The Great and Powerful Trixie not picking any more weeds today."
"There isn't anypony or anyone even here, Trixie. Beyond that, no one showed up at the Griffonstone show, so if anything saw us - they wouldn't recognize you until after you said your name. Even then, they might mistake you for a stripper or a pornstar instead. You've literally got no image to lose." Starlight pointed out with a jeering smile.
"The Great and Powerful Trixie always has an adoring public wherever she goes!" Trixie proclaimed without hesitation. "A public, mind you, that certainly would pay a great sum to see the Pure and Chaste Trixie in a pornographic shoot."
"And you'd know this from experience."
"Of course! Wait..." Trixie paused, realizing what had been said and puffed out her cheeks in consternation at the laughing Starlight. "Very funny, Glimmer, but we have more important things than just laughing at Trixie's expense - do we not?"
"Yeah, but Twilight isn't going to be any less changeling when we get there." Starlight said, shaking her head.
"She turned changeling?" Trixie balked. "You just said she had been taken by Chrysalis, not that she had switched species!" Trixie said in a closely guarded whisper. Starlight sighed.
"Well, yes, she did, and I doubt there's anything we can do about it. What we can do, Trixie, is make sure no more damage comes to Twilight or Equestria." Starlight replied, staring Trixie dead in the eyes. Trixie was obviously unsure about this statement. "If Chrysalis isn't brought to heel, she'll have an open door to just take over the entire world. She already has Twilight and Luna; how long until she wants Celestia and then the rest of the wider world?
"But, if we can stop her now, we can mitigate damages and make sure it doesn't go any further. We can still beat her at her own game!" Starlight said, growing in excitement as she convinced herself more and more. "She doesn't know somepony has been watching her this whole time! We can give her a taste of her own medicine and wiggle our way in and stealthily take back control!"
"You certainly have this all thought out, Glimmer." Trixie conceded. "I just hope you have the abilities to back all this talk up." She said, dropping her stage persona once more. Starlight nodded, coming back down to earth as she stopped thinking grandly and started thinking more close to home - closer to the present.
"Alright, well, let's get over to Manehatten. Ready?" She said, already igniting her horn as she gathered the necessary energy for a two pony transport.
"As ready as-" The two ponies then disappeared in a shower of sparks, leaving only an empty hillside that only held Trixie's cart.
"She wasn't wrong," one voice conceded from a crag up above a few moments later, "I would pay a good few bits to see her flank getting plowed by a couple thick dicks."
"Yeah, but what was that about 'beating her at her own game ' and so on? I think I heard something about Twilight. You think she's talking Princess Twilight?" Another voice asked timidly.
"Bah, ponies love reusing names. For all we know they have a competing magician with 'Twilight' in her name. Their obviously planning how they are going to beat out the competition and all that."
"I suppose..." The second voice murmured, "You think they left anything... naughty in the cart?"
"What, like pictures?"
"I was thinking a strap-on."
"I dunno, let's find out!" It said excitedly. The sound of two bodies slipping through the shadows to the cart briefly filled the air as too indiscernible shapes made their way down. The air grew still, only to be interrupted by the methodical sounds of a lockpick being used.
"Good click out of one, number two's a bit stuck, got a false set on three, nothing on number four. Moving back to one, still good. Got number two to click and I think we got number three sorted. Nothing on four. Going ba-" A sudden burst of magic and electricity burst out a moment later, sending two young griffons flying away into the distance with a trail of thick smoke following them.
"-I'll ever... be." Trixie blinked, looking around at the bustling streets of Manehatten around her. "And ponies say Trixie needs to work on her manners..." She mused, shooting a glare at Starlight.
"No time for chat, let's get on over to the train station - we might still make the next train heading to Canterlot!" She said, already setting off at a gallop away from Trixie. Trixie huffed at this, tossing down a smoke bomb before galloping away after her.
Trixie couldn't help but think that the next few days were doomed to be interesting.
Canterlot was just as shining, bright, and stuffy as it had been when Starlight and Trixie had left. A radiant beacon of everything good about Equestria with bold accents of everything wrong with it. It was a wonderful microcosm that their train was having trouble getting to in any good amount of time. It loomed above them in a benevolent sort of way, staring down at their puny lives from a great distance.
"Now that we're on the train, I think I've been more than generous with time," Trixie said, looking out the window towards the mountains beyond. Starlight broke her attention from the book she had been reading to give Trixie a cocked eyebrow.
"Pardon?"
"Trixie has been more than accommodating." Trixie continued unabated - or perhaps even encouraged by Starlight's confusion. "While we trekked all the way back to Griffonstone, you said you were still roughing out the plan. I understood, it was a stressful time and we had to make haste to just be back in time whilst also conserving our strength.
"Trixie has waited patiently for you to divulge your plan on how we are actually supposed to beat Chrysalis - and possibly even Twilight Sparkle." Trixie looked over to Starlight with a blank expression. "Last I checked, the best we ever managed against Twilight was temporary victories or functional stalemates that she eventually broke by being who she is. We aren't exactly prime anti-Twilight operatives."
"That's why we aren't going after Twilight." Starlight pointed out. "Sure, we might have to deal with her, but are target is Chrysalis. We've beaten her before."
"Oh, so you called Discord and Thorax over, hmm?" Trixie asked, dramatically looking around the cabin for signs of the two missing creatures.
"Well... no, but that's besides the point! We can't involve them!" Starlight said in a harsh whisper.
"What, because it would look bad on your report card?" Trixie scoffed.
"No, because we don't want Thorax to realize he was wrong!" Starlight insisted. Trixie paused, looking starlight up and down. Starlight sighed, casting her eyes to the floor as she began to speak once more. "When Chrysalis wanted to join our side, there were more than a few ponies who didn't believe her change of heart was at all genuine. I strongly oppose the idea from the start and had even cautioned Twilight from taking any help from Chrysalis.
"Among others, it was Thorax who convinced Twilight otherwise. He told her that all changelings - even Chrysalis - could be reformed. That within each changeling there was a seed of good that would bloom into the splendor of friendship if only nurtured correctly.
"I'll be honest, he even convinced me with his rhetoric. After all, if he and the rest of the changelings had metamorphosed and so had shown themselves to be able to receive the magic of friendship - even Thorax's stubborn brother - the statistics did point to a definite trend of changelings becoming good over time.
"If we bring Thorax into this," Starlight wrapped up, "it is tantamount to having to tell him that he was wrong and that some changelings - no matter what - cannot reform. It sends a message to all creatures everywhere that there are some entities that will never turn good; and, Trixie, I think we both know that there are a few choice ponies out there that many other ponies don't think have a chance of reformation."
Trixie remained silent for a moment, thinking this over. "Well, I suppose that is a good reason to keep Thorax out of it, but why not Discord? He's extremely powerful, he can just... chaos Chrysalis into a position she can't get out of, allowing you to help Twilight while she's helpless to stop you."
"Because Discord can't keep his trap shut." Starlight countered. "You know that the first thing he would do after being told this juicy tid bit is spill in over tea with Fluttershy; and we don't need Fluttershy or the other Elements catching wind of this. We need to deal with it ourselves - quietly and efficiently."
"I..." Trixie paused before shrugging, "well, Trixie's got nothing. We'll do it your way - but Trixie still says that we might consider involving somepony else. If we fail, all chance of this getting dealt with is gone."
"We won't fail." Starlight said, a dastardly grin spreading across her features. "We're the reformed bad guys, we don't lose. It's just how these things work."
"Glimmer, so help me, if you say that again I will find a tire iron."
"Sorry."
"So, beyond the fact that you aren't getting backup, do you actually have a plan? You haven't actually said anything about one." Trixie pressed.
"Of course I have a plan, Trixie." Starlight scoffed, waving her off with a dismissive hoof. Trixie raised an eyebrow at the mare, waiting on something a little more substantial. Starlight eventually sighed and stopped her theatrics.
"Look, I was planning on getting Chrysalis separated from Luna and Twilight , cast some well placed spells, make her mine, and then claim headship of the whole situation." Starlight confessed.
"So.. fighting mind control with mind control? Glimmer, you do realize that that doesn't make you much better than Chrysalis? You're basically just replacing one villain with a slightly less maniacal villain." Trixie pointed out. Starlight shook her head.
"It's not like that at all. Twilight is wholly taken by Chrysalis - as is Luna - so there's likely little I could actually do. I could try to break the mind control, but in the end it likely won't work - and if it were to work it would likely take too long. How much damage would Chrysalis be able to do before I could get through to either pony? And that's forgetting the main issue Twilight has going on right now."
"Yeah, I suppose that trying to break her mind control might be a... well, a bit late at this point." Trixie admitted. "Probably a few more dead seated issues at play there." Trixie shook slightly, moving her mind back to the task at hoof. "So you're just planning on cornering Chrysalis and hoping it works out?"
"I have done more impressive stunts in less stressful circumstances." Starlight pointed out. "I usually do better under pressure, so we should have it fairly easy so long as you can distract Twilight and Luna."
"Oh, so there's the plan." Trixie deadpanned with a sigh, shaking her head. "I'm the bait then, huh? 'Send Trixie in there, she's distracting enough.' " Trixie said in a mocking tone.
"More like I expect that they won't think of you as a threat." Starlight pointed out. "As you said, you're a magician, not a mage - that's got to disarm them at least slightly. You're more likely to get pleasant conversation rather than an intense battle you might not be up for."
"Starlight, stop beating around the bush with me, we both know that if Twilight really wanted to and wasn't such a pansy, she'd cream me with little effort. I'll never say it to her, and I will kill you if you relay it to her, but I know there's a gulf of power I'm not about to try and consider crossing. She's an alicorn and I'm a unicorn, and even when she was a unicorn she could outdo any magical performance I could put on with ease. She's a magical protégé, I'm just good." Trixie grumbled. Starlight was pleasantly surprised by the level of maturity the mare was showing. She wondered how many more surprises the mare might have for her.
"Any way..." She continued, not wanting Trixie to spoil her own moment, "all things going well, the most you might have to do is block a door and redirect the conversation a few times. It really shouldn't come down to a fight unless things go real side ways."
"Or quite a bit up and down, Trixie expects." Trixie chuckled, getting a blush out of Starlight. "Shit, Glimmer, it was a joke. Are you expecting things to go that way already? Are you planning on them going that way?"
"I... didn't exactly tell you everything that I saw Chrysalis do to Twilight and Luna." Starlight said, leaning forward to whisper it as quietly as possible. Trixie grew from confused, to minorly excited, to appalled, to even more excited, back to greatly confused, all the way to-
"YOU WATCHED HER DO WHAT‽
"Shh! I'm not trying to publicize it!" Starlight hissed, pulling Trixie in close. "Look, it was hot, alright? I thought she had it under control and was just enjoying herself while it lasted and then it turns out that she didn't!" Starlight said in exasperation, lowering her head. She had hoped to keep as much of this close to her chest, but found herself continually giving more over to Trixie despite herself.
She had never had such a large problem on her plate before. Twilight herself had taught Starlight to communicate her problems, but it just seemed like each time she communicated she made things worse. She just wanted to curl up in a ball and pretend like she never had said anything to Trixie in the hopes the world would take pity on her and make it true.
"May I see them?" Trixie broke through to Starlight. She looked up, having been on the verge of collapse before Trixie's words. "I mean, you say they were hot and you mentioned you'd watch them over on occasion. I figure you have a few good ones. Maybe... just show me some?"
"Are... are you serious?" Starlight asked, trying to figure out what game Trixie was playing.
"Well... maybe it'll help you relax and help me understand what exactly we're up against. It'll be... educational?" Trixie said, and unsure smile across her features. Starlight sighed, a smile across her lips before she swung herself to sit beside Trixie instead of across from her.
A brief application of magic later and the door was locked and the memory of a scry spell was being brought up before them - the audio from the memory filtering its way into both pony's minds. Trixie had a hard time adjusting to it, but a moment later she had a good handle on it. It was always odd to have the sound come from inside your head, more so when those sounds had the proper echoes from a different space.
Watching the floating image, Trixie saw Twilight enter her room, closing the door behind her before latching it. She looked around for a moment - pulling the curtains closed as she moved to the bathroom. The image followed her, watched her check inside the tub and - for some reason - inside the medicine cupboard. It was a thorough search, though to what end wasn't clear.
All of the sudden, a shudder took over Twilight and she walked out of the bathroom, only to turn back to face it. Defying any expectations, the ever pure pony lifted her tail, and leaned forward until her muzzle was almost touching the ground. Slowly she began to lick away at the floor, the sounds coming through incredibly clear.
"What is she doing?" Trixie asked, leaning over towards Starlight who seemed transfixed.
