Worlds Apart
Dawn
Previous ChapterNext ChapterWallflower opened her eyes wide in a state of shock. A cold sweat ran across her body uncontrollably as her breathing slowed down to a collected rhythm. She couldn't allow her shortcomings to torment Sunset, even after a night of passion she had to let her free.
The green girl collapsed onto her bed with a dull thud, the morning light basked the whole room in an otherworldly glow of orange and grey. The echo of her clock counted the seconds as they drifted over the horizon, each tick a powerful melody of her existence without Sunset.
Somber and silent.
With a soft sigh she drug herself out of the bed, her chest tightened with the first exhale of the stale morning air. Eyes gazed to the open window in curiosity would she see Sunset out there or simply see nothingness?
Uncertainty guided her actions as she instead chose to push forward alone, the hallway a quiet abyss that seemed devoid of anything with personality, each wall a smooth empty canvas.
Downstairs she couldn't make out the laughter of children usually present outside, instead, a loud ringing seemed to blare in her eardrums. Wallflower certain her head would explode, her steps unsure and off-kilter as she rushed to the kitchen in a haze.
The sound of water pouring into her glass enough to calm frightened nerves, what exactly was it that she dreaded?
Chugging the glass of water she couldn't help but feel completely parched. The sudden knock upon the door enough to startle up a loud gasp.
Or did she hear a scream?
Wallflower rushed to the wooden frame in a panic, the silence almost too much.
But nothing was there to greet her. The front porch empty as it always was, Wallflower noticed the sun basking the bench out in front of her home in a surreal light. The bus must be late today, she took steadied steps to the bench before taking her place.
It was foggy today, she couldn't see a thing.
The streets clear of any traffic or turmoil, each dull green yard empty and lifeless.
Resting she felt warmth at her side, yet only could see grey.
