Whirlwind Gust and her sister Firestorm had their squad captured and the majority of their six pegasi squad had been killed off. One stallion, Frostbite by name had tried to rush is gryphon guards and he managed to stun two and third had pierced him with her sword. The latter felt guilt for killing him; her allied comrades, the diamond dogs would have laughed and mutilated his body and desecrated it. Two pegasa mares tried to escape and got shot out of the sky. A second stallion had died from infection of his wounds. Firestorm was the commanding officer of the scoutuing mission and failed to calculate the risk of what she had assumed to be another scout force of the enemy was actually the entire force.
In an officer's meeting with the princesses, they told her they were relocating to Appaloosa to regroup their forces. Whirlwind had accidentally overheard and told her sister. The gryphons had departed to head off a dragon cohort to the south; the other half went to head off the young six and their forces to the south west. The diamond dogs began to use outlawed methods of interrogation. Firestorm was hauled to the far side of the dungeon and was tortured, first by starvation. Then she got beat with everything imaginable. The diamond dogs took it to the level of being just brutes and not worthy to bear the emblems of their lords. Whirlwind wanted to tell them what they wanted to know to save her sister. But however, Firestorm told her that she would rather that Whirlwind went home telling their parents she let her die to save the lives of thousands rather sacrificing thousands jusr to have their family together.
Whirlwind felt sick as she watched the diamond dogs violate her sister for several weeks straight. One night the diamond dogs began to rip Firestorm's feathers from her wings, and using a surgical blade performed very small cuts and poured lemon juice and salt into the wounds. Whirlwind closed her eyes and tried to block out the sound of Firestorm being beaten to the point bones were broken. After a couple of months, Firestorm was put through three weeks of getting gang raped and brutal sex acts getting performed. Every morning she would see her sister thrown into their shared cell; Firestorm though very broken kept her sister at a foreleg's distance. The fateful day came when she saw her sister perish, word came suddenly that the gryphons were returning. Whirlwind saw her sister's body thrown into the furnace. The diamond dogs had still a week to send her through hell.
They did grant her the request of keeping her sister's insignia and pendant with Firestorm's name and rank. Whirlwind wept, she knew her parents will be heartbroken and she hated herself because she swore to protect her sister. Now here she was, a survivor with no fellow soldiers and alone and surrounded by sex crazed diamond dogs who would hang around her cell and joke crassly about what they'd do to her. One dog joked, "Hey if you're a good mate I might give ya some fresh eggs." She may have been very young, but not so naiive to get his joke. Occasionally, they'd bring a pony mare prisoner from a cell a over hers and drag them down to her section and make her watch them violate them to death.
Deep down, Whirlwind Gust was emotionally shutting down. The gryphons lords had by this time executed by burning the diamond dogs in charge of her sister's death. They had no clue that the worst was about to happen.
Whirlwind awoke to Celestia humming to her and she could hear the sounds of fillies and colts running to school. Her parents were by the bed and she could tell they had been crying. She herself felt nothing and heard not very much. She had shut down mentally and emotionally.
This state became the norm and no pony could reach to her through her survivor's guilt and PTSD. nights were absolute hell, Luna was always there to shut the nightmares off. She had surrounded herself with pictures in her and her sister's old room. Pictures of her sister when she was alive. The day came when a familiar party mare came around.
"Hello Pinkie Pie, Whirlwind isn't in the mood to see anypony." Pinkie assured the parents that she wouldn't be long. When she got up stairs she saw that Whirlwind was starving herself and had been involved in self harm.
"Hi Whirlwind, tell me about Firestorm? She looks like she was an amazing sister." Silence followed as usual, but then a slight mumble was heard, and a small sniffle.
"She was the best, we were so close! Damn it! I could've saved her! I kept silent as I was ordered to do. She was commanding officer! I swore to protect her! It should've been me Pinkie. I knew more than any officer or princess knew. I'm doing my very best to keep her memories alive, their beginning to wane." After several hours Pinkie left and she had a brilliant idea.
Four Weeks Later
Pinkie bounced in the door of Whirlwind's home and excitedly told the parents she had something special for Whirlwind. The parents told Pinkie that a party to help cheer up Whirlwind wasn't gonna work. With convincing from Pinkie and coaxing they're brought Whirlwind to the cemetery. By the graves that housed the remains of the squad, even the ashes of Firestorm were buried there. A large stone monument had been erected, Limestone, Maud and Marble stood by the life sized monument of the squad. Whirlwind, hugged the statue of her sister and wept. Three flower ponies presented a wreath for each squad member. The wreath for Firestorm was given to Whirlwind who noted that it contained her sister's favorite colors.
As the days and weeks went by, Whirlwind could always be found at her sister's grave and by the monument just talking. She never had the nails removed from her foot, and she missed flying more than anypony knew. Her fractued hip had healed but never reached its former movement. Whirlwind considered herself trash after memories of being violated flooded in every so often. One day she met a stallion who had lost his own sister, Whirlwind over time learned that a mare in her squad named Frigidaire or Fridge by the squad mates was his sister. The pair often met at the graves to grieve and say things they never got to say. They eventually married, even after Whirlwind told him what had been done to her, he still told her that he wanted to marry her. The pain and hell she went Through proved to him that her strength under pressure proved she was a more precious diamond to him.
The gryphons had departed again and the only diamond dogs left were prison guards and inquistors. The inquistors made an appearance and they were grinning with impish grins like demons. They uncovered their cart that they had brought and upon it were instruments of torture. Braced against the wall, she was starved for two weeks. She then got food again, next she knew was getting beat to a pulp. After a few hours she lay prone on the ground whimpering. She then was staked in the center of a large cage. One day she was forced to fight ten dogs unarmed and she got beat severely. They got bored and got no information from her. The princesses were moving to fast for their foe, and after a few months would strike so swiftly that their wake would leave thousands to burn to death from the heat of the sun and infection.
Whirlwind Gust managed to get some sleep but was rudely a d painfully woken up with having a wing being broken. Holding her wing tightly as possilbat her side, and tried to survive another week of hell. The mentioned broken wing was soon severed with a dull bone saw. "Damn you fucking pony! Just give us what we want to know and you'll be free."
"Is that what you promised my sister? All I got to say is............go fuck yourself with a cactus!"
"So very vocal and crass, for that we're gonna drive a nail through the frog of your hoof." She saw them place a few nails near the flames to heat them up. A claw turned drill was set to work on her hoof. When they were done drilling, in pain she watched them drive a red hot nail into the small pre-drilled hole. It was followed by three more in the back right leg.
They performed more tortures and Whirlwind Gust kept silent. Her salvation came when the captor forces were rushing back behind the fortress walls and were trying to stem the visable tide of troops killing or maiming the enemy. Gryphons rushed in to the dungeon and saw what was being transpired killed all of the canines and she was brought to a comfortable room by a gryphon who was wearing Frostbite's pendant. The battle raging in front of the fortress would last for weeks, but the broken Whirlwind would never be the same.
