Krack, Boom!
Angels going bowling. I wondered if ponies knew anything about them, considering a third of their species already has wings, or can do magic at will.
I let that thought slip away as the pouring rain reached my pointed ears. Sensitive they were, able to pinpoint a pin drop in the wind. Also, the first thing to feel it, like the man in the lonely lighthouse.
I used my wings to try and cover them, to no avail. Cruelly, I was thrust into this world with this gift. Also, with the curse of being terrified... Of heights. It's quite ironic really, in the literature sense, back on Earth I was training to become a pilot. mere days from taking the final written test. Inconceivable? Seemingly, but when I'm in a plane, in total control, all my fears just float away. Like teardrops in the rain.
It was quite entertaining, for the others at least. Standing up on a cloudtop with Rainbow, and Fluttershy. Looking down on the others below. Like when you were a kid, and all your friends were calling you chicken for not going off the high diving board. Just like that, yet so different. As in, noone was calling me chicken (well, other than Rainbow), and they were all encouraging me to jump.
Above solid ground....
"If it's any consolation, Pegasi bones mend quickly!" She yelled
I remembered that fact, as I lay in a hospital bed watching Nurse Redheart (or was it Tenderheart?) as she fussed over whatever bandages she was placing on my hind leg. Luckily, she answered to just "Nurse" perfectly well as I asked what was going on.
"Well it would seem that you managed to break your leg."
"..."
"I mean why am I here? Why are you doing this to me, why can't Twi just fix it with her magic or something?!?"
She huffed," Well, if you must know; Miss Twilight is going to attempt to heal you, as she claimed it was partly her fault for pushing you so hard, but she had to rush home to figure out a spell for such an incidence. As for why she doesn't just become the local hospital herself; there are just too many people in need of medical assistance, and attending to everyone, as well as all of her other jobs she could potentially do, would wear the girl out. Not to mention that a whole community, including myself, would be out of a job."

"And we find people tend to heal better naturally."
It wasn't until a few weeks that Twilight asked me to go searching for something. Me living with her as she wanted to repay me somehow, agreed, thinking I ought to do something to be useful. It was under these pretenses that I started contemplating. Was this my heaven, or my hell. I do remember,truely, a life back on Earth. A human life, filled with friends, and fun times, and harsh times as all normal lives are. That's when it happened.
I remember the darkness. The torrential rain, and the lights. Ohh, those twin lights, bearing down on me like a Cheetah to his prey. Then a squeal. A shrieking from tires that sounded more like a scream than anything.
Then the bright flash, followed by an endless darkness.
It's a universal constant that matter cannot be created or destroyed, only misplaced. This pains me to think, what beast of Equestria could have taken my place? All I can do is wonder though, as I recall how my great journey began. I've been told I stumbled into town, frothing at the mouth. Dehydrated, and reeking of some filth as I searched for civilization. It was with this that I had my first true glance of this worlds inhabitants. Honestly, I think I was so out of it that I didn't even fuss, or put up any sort of resistance. I just sort of accepted it, and moved on. That was shen I first moved in with Twilight. First I was in the hospital, feeling like a child again as the grownups talked about my fate, next being thrust out the door with Twilight, telling me I am to live with her, to be studied, and to gleam as much information about my past as possible.
Once again we are brought back to why I am out here. Here in the mud. Here,out in the pouring rain cursing out at whatever deity caused such a fate to become of me. Black magic, Loki? A glitch in the system? I didn't care. I cursed it all as I huddled under a tree, lookin for some hint of a respite. None came to me. Instead I felt the ground rumbling, followed by a low growl as if a very large creature had come, looking for some sort of prey.
It was at this moment I felt dumb. Not terrified, but utterly and terribly idiotic. Being of a human descent, not realizing, I figured, "Sure Twilight, I'll go off into that big scary looking dark forest and find your silly little flower. What's the worst that could happen, I get killed by some ungodly creature from the proverbial underworld?"
Not that I was this oblivious back home (usually). I just didn't quite expect to find some supposedly mythological creature to conveniently be where I needed to be, when I needed to be there, looking for lunch.
Ohh, what I would have gave to had a gun right there.

Roawr!
It's at this time I would like to determine that I am not a physically intimidating opponent. Back home, despite living out in the country my whole life, I was still a scrawny little person. Although I guess "little" wouldn't be the best description. I'm sure "lanky" most would agree with. At a little over six foot two (with a driver license still claming five-ten), I weighed a little under a hundred sixty pounds (hey, I gained some weight since last year!)
As a pony, I remain mosly the same. Slightly more than average height, and they tell me I should eat more. Real helpful.Think "Caramel", only as a Pegasi, so noticeably lighter, and a hare taller.
A hare. Funny how such a thing can be a measurement. Not much of one, but enough of one to be thankful for as it's about how much this peculiar Lion-Scorpion hybrid beast missed me by, swinging with his razor sharp claws. I deftly jumped away, now terrified of the pain this world could inflict on me. The creature swung again, wildly, and I was able to move my lithe body out of the way.
On the brightside, they say with my body type, and a little willpower, I should be able to become one of the best flyers this side the Marsden coulee. I'm still not sure if that's a good thing though. Not that it's much consolation; being terrified of flying, and still unable to do more than assist my natural jumping height. The truely embarassing thing about coming to this world though, was learning to walk again. As a grown stallion.
It was right when I was released from the hospital, Twilight, noticing my trouble keeping up with her, noted how, "Despite the reports indicating being out of breath, and struggling into town, it may be possible I had somehow been struck by amnesia out in the wilderness, and had trouble merely walking home."
How clinical. How cold, just like her lessons....
"Now bend your knee please, and move your leg forward."
"No no, not like that. Are you trying to be as counterproductive as possible?!"
If only you knew, Twilight. If only you knew what it was like to have your knees seemingly reversed. Actually, it's more like having your knee moved up in your leg, and walking on what is primarily your "toes", with your ankle becoming the primary moving joint attached to an elongated foot. It was difficult at first, as most things are. With practise though (literally everywhere, I'm not the flying type y'see), I did imrpove to where I could walk, and become independent enough for Twi to send me off into the forest to look for a flower for her. If only she could see me now, running, and jumping over broken logs, dodging this way, and that. Smoothly avoiding the multiple blades, slicing air around me, looking for purchase on my long, rounded body.
At least now I knew how to run.
So I ran.
