It was hot.

The sun was high, baking the neighborhood in its summer heat. Anon looked up at the sky, wiping some sweat off his forehead. Summer vacation was ending tomorrow, which sucked for more than the obvious reason. Why did they have to move into their old house today?!

Anon stood in the driveway of their old home, the one he had left nine years ago. His dad had gotten a pretty awesome job offer, but it meant they had to move far away to another country. The experience was nice, and Anon felt he had learned a lot, but now they were back, and of course they were using the last day of summer vacation to move into the house!

In some ways it was nice enough, it meant he would be tired tonight, which would allow him to turn in early. Hopefully that would mean he wouldn't be as tired tomorrow morning, but he doubted it.

He was already too excited about tomorrow, not because of school, but because he would finally see his best friend again. Dash! The two of them had been very close as kids, and they had lived right next to each other, so they had pretty much grown up together.

Funny enough, Dash's parents still lived in their old house, so they had become neighbors again. Dash's parents had even come over to greet them again, and help out with a few things. Dash on the other hand was away with some friends, they wouldn't be back before later tonight. Anon was a little disappointed that they couldn't meet up today. But he wasn't angry with anyone, that was just how it was, and he could wait.

Letting out a sigh, he was just about to return indoors when his phone started vibrating. Anon checked the display, smirking as he saw it was Dash who had texted him.

Dash: Hey, Anon! You there yet? 😁

Anon: Hey, Dash. Yeah, we are just moving the last boxes inside. 😪

Anon: Where are you at? 🤔

Dash: Me and the girls just finished packing. We're heading back to Canterlot now, but we won't be back before late tonight. 😑

Anon: Girls? Applejack and Fluttershy? 🙃

Dash: Yup! And Rarity and Pinkie Pie, plus two new friends. 😉

Anon: Two new additions? Are they hot? 🤤

Dash: Wouldn't you like to know? 😈 You'll just have to wait and see, dude. 😜

Anon: Booo, you suck! 😒

Anon: And swallow.. 😏

Dash: Fuck you! Lol. Anyway, got to go, we need to get to our train. See you tomorrow, Anon! 😂

Anon: See ya! 😝

Chuckling to himself, Anon put his phone in his pocket again. Their language sounded a bit harsh at times, but it was all in good fun. He thought back at their other friends, Applejack, Rarity, Pinkie and Fluttershy. They were his friends too, and he could still see them clearly in his mind.

Rarity had always been this prim little girl, always in beautiful dresses, and often refusing to go near them when they had been out playing outside. Anon has always been the kind of kid who got dirty as soon as his foot reached the outside, and Dash was like that too. Not that she looked down on them or anything, but she was more the tea play kind of girl, liking dolls and so on.

Applejack as well, she was this sweet farmer girl. Often wearing practical clothes, unlike Rarity. She was the sweetest little thing, but strong as a tractor! She wasn't afraid to play rough, or to get dirty whenever Anon and Dash were out playing. Applejack was great, often ready to lend a hand if any of them needed it.

Then there was Pinkie Pie, she was.. Well, she was Pinkie Pie. This hyperactive girl who was always game for ANYTHING! Being wild, playing outside, or playing video games inside. Whatever you suggested, Pinkie was always game. She always made sure it was fun, no matter what.

Their last friend from back then was Fluttershy. This timid and sweet girl. She had a love for animals like no other. If anyone ever had a heart of pure gold, then it would be Fluttershy. Anon and Dash often felt a need to protect her, which was why when they played knights and princesses, Fluttershy was often the princess, and they the knights.

He'd stayed in contact with them, though mostly through letters and email. The contact hadn't been as frequent as the one with Dash, but he still missed those chicks, they were pretty awesome. As for the two new additions, he'd never met them, or seen them.

A voice suddenly called him from the front door. "Anonymous! You're coming in with the last boxes, sweetheart?" It was his mom, she was heading towards the moving truck to get another box.

"Oh, right. Coming, mom!"

The rest of the day was spent unpacking, though it would take a few days before everything was at its proper place. For now they focused on the more important parts, like the kitchen, living room, and their rooms. Decorations and stuff like that came second. Although, Anon's dad did start filling up the swimming pool, after cleaning it, obviously.

When it became dinner time, his mom just ordered them some pizzas. Anon didn't mind, he ate in his room as he was setting everything up. At times he would look at his phone, hoping to see a message from Dash, but so far no luck. It didn't bother him, but he was looking forward to seeing his bro.

But it seemed tonight would not be that night. Deciding to let it go, he focused on setting up his computer and laying out his clothes for tomorrow. Once everything was okay and neat, Anon brushed his teeth and went to his bed. As he was setting the alarm on his phone it suddenly vibrated, showing a text from Dash.

Dash: Hey, dude! Sorry we couldn't see each other today. Sucks.. But anyway, how about I pick you up tomorrow? Then we can walk to school together? 😎

Anon smiled, texting Dash back as he laid down on his bed.

Anon: Sure, sounds good. When do we leave? 🙂

Dash: Around 7? Should give us plenty of time to get to school and get you to class. 😱

Anon: Alright, I'll be ready for you then. 😆

Dash: Sweet! See you tomorrow, Anon! 🌞

Anon: Later! 👍

After sending the last text, Anon connected his phone to the charger, turned off the lights, and placed his head on the soft pillow. Tomorrow would be a whole new day, and he would get to see his old friends again. It was so awesome! And for a moment he wondered how he could ever fall asleep with something like that hanging over him! He was just too excited!

Although, after a few minutes he was out as a light, snoring lightly...

The next day Anon was awoken by his phone, playing that annoying melody. Anon mostly had a mind to toss the stupid thing out the window, but he knew if he didn't get up, his mom would unleash a knocking attack on his door. So turning the alarm off, Anon stood up, and made ready for the day ahead.

It started with a brushing of his teeth, a quick shower, and throwing his dirty clothes into the laundry basket. Once all was done, he went downstairs to eat. Like always, his mom was in the kitchen, cleaning away from his dad's breakfast, while his own waited for him.

His mom, Nomi, had never once been absent from the kitchen in the morning. She liked to make sure their mornings were as smooth and easy as possible, and she enjoyed the simple tasks in life. She was a good mom, a good wife, but she didn't do any of these things because she had to, it was because she wanted to. It was one of her ways to show love, to spoil her boys.

That wasn't to say that Anon and his dad didn't help around the house, of course they did. Besides, Anon would feel guilty if his mom did everything, so it never bothered him to take down the trash, or clean his room. He'd never complained about it, and with a breakfast like this, how could he?

As soon as he sat down his mother turned towards him, sending him that warm and loving smile of hers. "Good morning, honey. Did you have a nice night?"

"Morning, mom. I guess I did." Replied Anon, buttering his toast. "How about you and dad?"

"Yes, we had a good night too. I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow." She giggled, making some tea for herself. "By the way, are you going to see Rainbow today?"

"Rainbow?" Anon looked puzzled at his mom, then he remembered that was Dash's actual name. Rainbow Dash.. Wow, had he really forgotten? Or had he just shut that part out. "Oh, uhm, yeah. Dash would be over to pick me up soon."

"Oh, just like old times.." His mother said, her voice sounding like she was about to cry, but she didn't. "Oh, you two were just so adorable when you were kids.. Always together.." She giggled, seemingly in a playful mood today. "You know, when you were younger, your dad and I took bets on when you would confess your love to one another!"

Anon made a face. "Arhg! Gross, mom!"

Nomi raised an eyebrow. "What? The two of you were always together."

"Yeah but, you know, it's Dash!"

"Yeah? So?"

Anon just looked at his mom, did she really not get it? "I mean? That would just be weird, marrying Dash? Pfft, we're best friends. She's my bro!"

His mom just looked at her son in disbelief, then slight confusion. Suddenly she smiled slightly, as if she was about to explain something complicated to a small child, using very simple words to do it. "Sweetie, you do know Rainbow is a girl, right?"

Her question stunned him for a moment. Dash, a girl? Well, of course he knew that, but he had actually never thought of Dash as a girl. To him Dash had always been, well Dash. Thinking back, he could actually not picture her as a chick. Not when they had been fighting, giving each other black eyes, playing treasure hunters at the beach, or trying to burp the entire alphabet. No, no, no. He just couldn't see it. Oh sure, Dash might technically be a chick, but to him Dash would always be his bro.

Ding-dong~!

He let out a small sigh of relief. 'Saved by the bell..' Anon thought, smiling slightly as he stood up. "Sorry mom, but all that just sounds like crazy talk. Dash might be a girl, but there is no way I'd ever look at Dash in any other way than as a bro."

With that final statement he walked out of the kitchen, hearing his mother's giggle as he passed her. "If you say so honey, but nine years can change a lot about a person."

Anon just rolled his eyes, thinking his mom was just teasing him. What she was saying was just crazy! Sure, they might not be little kids anymore, but surely the bond was still there? Of course it was! Him and Dash were as thick as thieves! And really, how much could have really changed? Once the two started to hang out, it would be just like old times.

Reaching for the door, he pulled the handle, and opened the front door. When he did, the first thing that caught his eyes were a pair of two beautiful magenta eyes looking straight at him. Anon froze, his mouth hung open as the figure became fully visible before him.

A raspy voice greeted him, the voice he knew oh so well. "What's up, Anon? Welcome home!"
