Chapter 5: The Everfree Forest and Iron Moon Mountain Part 1
Inside the Golden Oak Library, Twilight was turning the whole place upside down, scouring through every book; hoping to find a way to save Drew and stop Nightmare Moon. “Elements, elements, elements... Ugh!” She exclaimed in frustration. “How can I stop Nightmare Moon and save Drew without the Elements of Harmony?”
“And just what are the Elements of Harmony?!” Rainbow demanded, getting up to Twilight’s face. “And how did you know about Nightmare Moon, huh?!” “And where the heck did she take Drew?!” She added, as Twilight backed up to a shelf. “Are you a spy?”
“Simmer down, Sally.” Applejack spoke up, pulling Rainbow back before she and the rest of the girls arrived. “She ain't no spy.” “But she sure knows what's going on. Don't you, Twilight?” She asked, all of them looking at Twilight with concerned looks.
Twilight sighed, realizing there was no point hiding any secrets. “I read all about the prediction of Nightmare Moon.” She replied. “Some mysterious objects called the Elements of Harmony are the only things that can stop her, but I don't know what they are, where to find them; I don’t even know what they do!”
“‘The Elements of Harmony: A Reference Guide.’” Pinkie spoke up as she saw a book on the shelf, making Twilight gasp and push her aside. “How did you find that?!” She asked. “It was under "E"!” Pinkie replied in singsong, bouncing up and down.
Twilight rolled her eyes. “Oh,” she muttered, before she took the book out and flipped through it. “There are six Elements of Harmony, but only five are known: Kindness, Laughter, Generosity, Honesty and Loyalty.” She read out loud. “The sixth is a complete mystery. It is said, the last known location of the five elements was in the ancient castle of the royal sisters.” “It is located in what is now--”
(Later...)
“The Everfree Forest!” The Mane 6 found themselves at the edge of a great forest, the trees stretched up high and their branches looked like clawed hands reaching out to grab them. “Whee!” Pinkie Pie cheered. “Let’s go!”
“Not so fast.” Twilight added, stepping forward. “Look, I appreciate the offer, but I'd really rather do this on my own.” “No can do, sugar-cube.” Applejack replied, firmly. “We want to save Drew as much as you do and we sure ain't lettin' any friend of ours go into that creepy place alone.” “We're stickin' to you like caramel on a candy apple.” She added before heading off in the forest.
Soon, all the other girls joined in murmuring in agreement. “Yeah!” Pinkie added. “Especially if there's candy apples in there.” This earned her some blank stares from Twilight. “What? Those things are good.” The pink girl replied, before skipping off after the others.
Twilight sighed before following after them. She was still worried about Drew; who knows where Nightmare Moon sent him and if he was alright. All she could do was hope that she could find a way to save him. “Drew, wherever you are...” She prayed. “Please be safe.”
(Meanwhile...)
“Urrgh...” Drew groaned as he staggered to his feet. He looked around to find himself in a desolate land, with rocks and grey dirt as far as the eye could see and a dark blue sky overhead. “Hello!” He called. “Is anyone there?!”
His voice echoed throughout the sky. Drew called out again. “TS!! AJ! RD!” Still, there was no one reply. It was then he noticed he was near the foot of a large black, ominous mountain. Dark clouds gathered on its peak and lightning flashed across the sky. He stared up in amazement, what strange place is this?
He noticed a sigh next to him which read: ‘Iron Moon Mountain, whoever can ascend it, survive the many traps inside and reach the shrine at the top of its peak shall be rewarded with magic more powerful than your wildest dreams. Sighed, M’
Drew was a bit cautious at first. He didn’t have any magical powers unlike his adopted mother or Twilight and he was rather content with his life as an Earth Ponyian. Still, if he wanted to find a way out and back to Twilight, this shrine would be his only chance.
“Hang on, Twilight...” He muttered, a determined look on his face. “I’ll find a way back to you!” With that, he took off towards the direction of the mountain.
(Back in the Everfree Forest...)
“So,” Twilight asked the other girls. “none of you have been in here before?” “Heavens no!” Rarity exclaimed, fanning herself. “Just look at it. It's dreadful!” “And it ain't natural.” Applejack added. “Folk say it don't work the same as Equestria.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Twilight asked. Unknown to them, the strange dark mist crept below them and seeped through the cracks on the cliff. “No one knows...” Rainbow replied, grinning mischievously. “You know why?” She asked in a creepy tone, stalking to Rarity, Pinkie and Flutter who cringed nervously.
“Rainbow, quit it.” Applejack warned, but Rainbow continued. “Cause everypony who's ever come in has never come out!” She exclaimed, making the three girls gasp in fright. Suddenly, the cliff under them cracked and gave away! Every girl screamed as they slid down the slope while Rainbow Dash and Flutter-Shy were able to escape by flying.
“Flutter-Shy, quick!” Rainbow shouted, flying down after them. “Oh my goodness, oh my goodness!” Flutter-Shy panicked as she followed after her. All the girls screamed as they slid down the slope. Flutter-Shy managed to grab Rarity while Rainbow grabbed Pinkie. Applejack was fortunate to grab hold of a tree-root to stop her sliding.
However, Twilight was losing ground fast and soon, she found herself dangling over the edge of the cliff. “Hold on!” Applejack cried out, letting go of the tree root. “Hold on! I'm a-coming!” Carefully, she made her way toward Twilight and grabbed hold of her hands.
“Applejack!” Twilight asked, terrified. “What do I do?!” Applejack looked around, desperately trying to see any sign to help Twilight. Suddenly, she noticed something up ahead and turned to Twilight.
“Let go.” She told her. “What?!” Twilight screamed. “Are you crazy?” “No, I ain't.” Applejack replied, firmly. “I promise, you'll be safe.” “That's not true!” Twilight yelled back, not so convinced.
“Now, listen here.” Applejack said, looking at Twilight straight in the eye. “What I'm sayin' to you is the honest truth.” “Let go, and you'll be safe.” She assured her, with a smile. Twilight looked at her for a moment and released her hold on her, causing her to fall of the cliff.
“Yaaaaaaaaaaaaah!” Twilight screamed at the top of her lungs. Suddenly, she felt herself floating in mid air and found Rainbow and Flutter-Shy holding on to her. “Sorry girls.” Flutter-Shy apologized. “I'm not used to holding anything more than a bunny or two.”
Twilight breathed a sigh of relief before she smiled at Applejack who was making her way down to the others, grateful for her honesty. Little did they know that the blue mist floating above them and hitting a strange creature, making it roar loudly.
(In Iron Moon Mountain...)
Drew grunted as he climbed the mountain, the rocks tore at his sneakers and his fingers were sore from climbing. He reached a ledge and found a cave on the mountain’s side. “Maybe, I can find shelter inside.” He thought as he entered the cave.
When he entered, he found himself in a long tunnel with thick stone walls on either side of him. As he walked on, he heard the distant sound of rocks clashing together. “I don’t like the sound of that...” Drew muttered as he followed the direction of the sound.
To his amazement, he found a pathway of iron gates leading straight ahead, the large metal gates dropping down and raising up at different times. Drew grew a bit nervous, those gates could smash him flat like a pancake. He thought of turning back to find another route, but that would only waste more time. His only option was to take his chances with the clashing gates.
“I can do this...” Drew thought, taking a deep breath. “Besides, if I don’t make it, I’ll never know what hit me.” He positioned himself in a starting runner’s position, waiting for the right moment to see a clear path.
“There!” He exclaimed, before taking off. He ran as fast as he could through the pathway, the iron gates slamming down right behind him. A few times, he nearly tripped but Drew continued to run forward. As he reached the last gate, he made one large, tremendous leap and made it to the other side, just as the last gate slammed down.
“Yes!” Drew cheered. “I did it!!” “Now to find my way up!” He ran forward till he came to the end of the tunnel. He found himself right in front of a large, wide chasm with sharp spikes at the bottom. The only way across was a rope bridge with bones for the steps and held up by chains.
Drew had no idea how long this bridge was there or if it could hold his weight. Gulping down, he slowly stepped on one of the bone steps and made his way over the chasm. “Don’t look down...” He thought nervously. “Don’t look down.” He was halfway across the chasm when...
*SNAP! *
Drew froze. “Oh no...” He muttered. *SNAP! * One of the ropes on the bridge snapped, causing it to collapse! “WOOOAAAAHHHHH!!!!” Drew yelled as he grabbed a rope of the bridge and held on to dear life as the whole bridge was fell to one side of the chasm. “That...was...close!” He breathed
The prince was shaking slightly as he climbed back up to where he started. Suddenly, the bridge turned into a mass of snakes who hissed at him! “WOAH!!” Drew screamed, letting go of the rope and falling into the chasm!
Fortunately, he landed on a thick branch growing on top of a ledge. Drew took a few deep breaths to calm down. “So much for going back...” He muttered to himself, before looking over on the other side of the chasm. “Now, how am I going to get across...?”
It was then he noticed the large leaves growing on the branches and his eyes widened. “Perfect!” He exclaimed, before plucking two huge leaves from the branch. He plucked a thick vine and tied them together.
Soon, he made himself a pair of large wings and strapped them on his arms with the vine, making sure they were secure. “Perfect!!” He exclaimed spreading his new wings wide. “Now to test them out!”
“Here goes nothing!” He yelled, jumping of the ledge. To his amazement, he felt the wind carrying him up and lifting his wings. “Wahoo!!” Drew cheered; he was flying like an eagle across the sky. Soon, he was over the chasm and landed safely on the other side on a ledge that led to another tunnel.
“Thank you, wings!” Drew laughed as he took the wings off. “Now, to find my friends!!” He added, before racing off into the tunnel.
