Chapter 6: The Everfree Forest and Iron Moon Mountain Part 2

(In the Everfree Forest...)

“And once Pinkie and Rarity were saved, whoosh...!” Rainbow Dash bragged as she flew above the others, doing tricks as she did. “Me and Fluttershy loop-de-loop around and WHAM! Caught you right in the nick of time.”

Twilight was not amused. “Yes, Rainbow, I was there.” She replied, rolling her eyes a little. “And I'm very grateful.” “But we’ve gotta to save Drew from-” *BAM!* She gasped when a large creature pounced in front of them.

It looked like an enormous lion, but with horns, giant bat wings on its back and a long scorpion tail with a stinger at its end. “A Manticore!” She exclaimed. “GGGRRRROOOOAAARRR!!!” The manticore roared, rearing up on its hind legs.

“We’ve got to get past him!” Twilight called out. “GGGGRRROOOOAAAARRRRR!!” The monster roared again, lunging forward and swiping a paw at Rarity. “Hi-yah!” Rarity yelled, kicking the manticore on the face. “Take that, you ruffian!” She called out, confidently.

The answer she got was a loud, deafening roar at her face, the sheer force made her hair all poofy and messy. “My hair!” She cried, before running back to the side. “Wait...” Flutter-Shy spoke up softly, but no one could hear her.

“YEE-HAW!” Applejack cried as she leapt onto the manticore’s back. “Git along, little dogie!” She exclaimed as she rode on its back, as it leapt and bucked like a bull in a rodeo. “Wait.” Flutter-Shy called out again, a little louder but no one heard her.

The manticore roared as it leapt about with Applejack still on its back. Finally, it threw the Cowgirl of its back. “Whoa!” She cried as she was thrown into the air. “All yours, partner.” She told Rainbow Dash. “I’m on it!” Rainbow replied, diving towards it.

Wait!” Flutter-Shy called out, but to no avail. Rainbow soared around and around the monster, hoping to make it dizzy. However, it failed to faze the creature and it swatted her away with its tail. “Rainbow!” Twilight cried out in worry as Rainbow was thrown at her feet, landing hard on the ground.

Finally, the girls had enough. They weren’t going to let anything stand in their way in stopping Nightmare Moon and saving Drew. The Manticore snorted and pawed the ground, ready to charge. The girls braced themselves for a fight.

Finally, the five girls charged at the monster. Just as they were in range, Flutter-Shy jumped in front of them. “WAIT!” She called out, stopping them in their tracks. Flutter-Shy quietly approached the manticore, who growled softly and raised its paw to attack.

The other girls flinched and closed their eyes, assuming the worst. “Shhh... It's okay.” They opened their eyes to see Flutter-Shy gently caressing the manticore on its other front paw. The creature moaned and gently extends it, showing a very thick thorn on it.

“Oh, you poor, poor little baby.” Flutter-Shy cooed gently. “Little?” Rainbow muttered, stunned. Everyone watched in interest as the Manticore looked at the shy girl with a sad look on its face. “Now this might hurt for just a second.” She told him gently.

Flutter-Shy reached for the thorn and pulled it out. “Grrroooooaaaarrrrr!!!” The manticore roared loudly, scooping her up towards his mouth. “Flutter-Shy!” The girls cried out. However, what happened next made their jaws drop in shock. Instead of eating her, the manticore was licking her face, and purring softly like a pussycat. It was clearly grateful this kind girl was able to remove the thorn from its paw.

Flutter-Shy giggled. “Aw you're just a little ol' baby kitty, aren't you?” She cooed sweetly as the creature continued to lick her face happily while everyone else smiled. The other girls gave a cheer as the manticore set her down and went on its way. Twilight was most impressed.

“How did you know about the thorn?” She asked. “I didn’t.” Flutter-Shy replied, as she walked by. “Sometimes we all just need to be shown a little kindness.” Twilight just stared in amazement before smiling and following her. “If only Drew could see this.” She thought.

(In Iron Moon Mountain...)

Drew panted as he ran through the stone hallways of the mountain. “I’m not sure about this” He thought. “Maybe, this is all just a trap from Nightmare Moon” “Still, if it was, why would she put up a warning at the entrance.” He continued as he raced down the hallways. “I’ll guess I’ll know for sure once I get to the top.”

Finally, he entered a large room with stone walls and light shining above him. What shocked him the most was an enormous stone giant, resting before him. He had read about stone giants back in Canterlot; they were incredibly strong and bad-tempered, especially if they are disturbed. From the loud snores and the slow rise and fall of its chest, it was sleeping

Slowly, Drew made his way forward, careful not to disturb it. “If I can sneak past him,” He thought. “I might be able to find my way through.” Just at that moment, Drew felt his nose tickling on the inside. “Oh no...” Drew thought with dread before he sneezed. “AH-CHOO!”

“Uuuurrrraaaaahhhhh!!!” The stone giant stirred and opened its eyes. "Gotta go back!" Drew exclaimed as he turned back to the stone entrance from which he came. Unfortunately, a metal gate with bars dropped on it, blocking its entrance and trapping him!

“No, No, No!!” Drew cried, shaking the bars in a futile attempt to loosen the gate. “UUURRRRAAAAGGGGGHHHHHH!!!” He turned to see the stone giant coming towards him, roaring loudly. The stone walls were too steep to climb, and he couldn’t fly up to the light in the ceiling. The only way out was at the other side, right through the stone giant.

“I’m not dying here!” Drew exclaimed bravely. “I’m getting back to Twilight and my friends!!” “YYYYYYAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!” Drew let out a blood-curdling war-cry, almost like a roar and charged at the giant. The giant seemed to be taken aback by his action and even backed away, revealing another entrance on the other side.

Drew was beyond amazed. “I can’t believe it!” He cried. “It actually worked!” “Thank you!!” He called out to the stone giant as he raced through into the gate. “I wonder how the girls are getting along?” He wondered.

(Back with the Mane 6 girls...)

The girls continued to march through the marshes. It seemed to go on forever and the friends felt like they were getting no closer. “No.” Rarity groaned. “My eyes need a rest from all this icky muck.”

As if on cue, everyone’s vision went black as the moon was covered by the trees, plunging the whole forest into darkness. “Well, I didn't mean that literally.” Rarity spoke again, a little nervous. “That ancient ruin could be right in front of our faces, and we wouldn't even know it.” Twilight pointed out.

It was so dark, that Rarity bumped into Rainbow Dash. “I didn't see you there, my apologies.” Rarity remarked. “Oh wait,” Applejack paused, raising her foot. “I think I stepped in somethin'.” Flutter-Shy screamed, but Applejack was indifferent. “It’s just mud.” She assured her.

“Grrrrrrr....” Suddenly, a low growl came from one of the trees. Then another, another and soon the girls were surrounded. On each tree, there seemed to make a scary face at the girls, with large eyes and razer-sharp teeth. The girls screamed and held onto each other.

Only to stop when they heard...laughing. To their shock, they saw Pinkie Pie laughing at the trees and even making goofy faces at them. “Pinkie, what are you doing?!” Twilight exclaimed. “Run!” “Oh girls, don't you see?” Pinkie asked. And before anyone knew it, she began singing.

(Play the Laughter Song...)

Pinkie(singing): When I was a little kiddie

And the sun was going doo-ow-ow-n!

“Tell me she’s not...” Twilight muttered, but Pinkie cut her off by popping up from above them, upside down.

Pinkie(singing): The darkness and the shadows,

they would always make me froo-ow-ow-n!

“She is...” Rarity replied, as Pinkie bounced around them while still singing.

Pinkie(singing): I'd hide under my pillow

From what I thought I saw

But Granny Pie said that wasn't the way

To deal with fears at all!!

“Then what is?” Rainbow asked, before Pinkie got up to her face.

Pinkie(singing): She said, "Pinkie, you gotta stand up tall

Learn to face your fears

You'll see that they can't hurt you

Just laugh to make them disappear."

Ha! Ha! Ha!

As if by magic, the darkness faded away and the once scary tree returned to normal, much to the girls’ surprise. The face had disappeared completely.

Pinkie(singing): So, giggle at the ghostly

Guffaw at the grossly

Crack up at the creepy

Whoop it up with the weepy

Chortle at the kooky

Snortle at the spooky

And tell that big dumb scary face

to take a hike and leave you alone

and if he thinks he can scare you

then he's got another thing coming

and the very idea of such a thing

just makes you wanna... hahahaha... heh...

Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaauuuugh!

Soon, with help from her friends, all the trees returned to normal and the girls were rolling on their backs, laughing themselves silly. “Sometimes, we learn when we are ready.” Pinkie replied, grinning as she zipped away.

Twilight soon calmed down, her spirits lifted up. However, she grew worried when she thought about Drew. “Drew...” She wondered. “Where are you?”
