Chapter 8: The Everfree Forest and Iron Moon Mountain Part 4

(In the Everfree Forest...)

“There it is!” Twilight called out as the Mane 6 girls reached the edge of the Everfree Forest. Right before them were the ruins of the Castle of the Two Sisters. “The ruin that holds The Elements of Harmony. We made it!”

She raced forward excitedly, with the rest of the girls following behind her. “Twilight, wait for us!” Applejack called out. “We're almost there.” Twilight replied. “WHOA!!” She screamed as she came to a sudden stop at the edge of a large gorge with an old rope bridge dangling on their side.

Twilight scrambled back just in time. “What's with you and falling off cliffs today?” Rainbow asked in amusement. “Now what?” Pinkie asked. “Duh,” Rainbow replied, proudly. “Just leave it to me.” With that, she flew over the gorge and grabbed the other end of the rope bridge.

She flew up to the other side of the gorge and was tying it up when a strange fog rolled in.
“Rainbow...” A voice echoed in the fog. Rainbow-Dash jumped and looked around. “Who’s there?” She called out at the fog. “Rainbow...” The voice echoed again. Rainbow put her fists up and got into a fighting stance. “I ain't scared of you!” She called out. “Show yourself!”

“We've been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the best flyer in Equestria.” The voice spoke. Rainbow grew surprised. “Who?” She asked. “Why, you of course.” The voice replied. “Really?!” Rainbow asked, a bit embarrassed. “I mean... Oh yeah, me.”

“Hey, uh, you wouldn't mind telling the Wonder-Bolts that, would ya?” She asked eagerly. “Cause, I've been trying to get into that group for like, ever.” “No, Rainbow Dash” The voice replied, more clearer. “We want you to join us...”

The fog cleared to reveal three Ponyains, all dressed in dark colored flight suits and wearing goggles with yellow lenses. They had a symbol of skulls with wings on the chest of their flight suits. “We’re the Shadow-Bolts.”

(At the same time, with Drew...)

Drew shivered as cold seeped through his skin. He was now in another cavern that was covered in ice. Huge icicles hung from the ceiling and below was a chasm with ice spikes sticking out like thorns on a rose.

What kind of mountain is this?” Drew thought as he rubbed his hands trying to keep warm. There was a long ice archway that acted as a bridge across the chasm. “What is it with the place and bridges?” He grumbled as he began crossing over to a cave on the other side.

“GO BACK!!” Drew froze when a large white ogre stepped out from the shadows and stood in front of him. “You don’t belong here!!” “Oh, come on already!!!” Drew yelled in frustration. “What do you want?!”

“I am the Guardian of the Ice Cavern!” The ogre boomed. “Go back to where you belong!!” “I’m not going anywhere!!” Drew shot back defiantly. “I need to find my friends and getting to the top is the only way!!” “No one goes to the top of Iron Moon Mountain without my mistress’s permission!!” The ogre boomed again. “Now, leave or you die!”

“I’m not going anywhere!!” The young prince declared, putting his fists up. “You gonna have to drag me out with my cold dead body!!” “RRRRRRAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!” The ogre roared, pulling out a large hammer, made out of bones and charging forward.

Drew charged back at him and dove between the ogre’s legs just as the monster swung his hammer at him. “Look behind you, bone head!!” He taunted before jumping at the ogre’s face. Just as the ogre turned, Drew landed a punch on the ogre’s eye! *POW!!*

“AAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!” The ogre screamed, clutching his eye and stepping back. “You’ll gonna pay for that!!” He roared, before he swung his hammer and threw it at the ceiling, smashing some icicles and making them fall on Drew.

“Oh fudge!!” Drew cried, holding out his arms to shield himself as the icicles collapsed on him, burying him under a pile of icicles. “Ha!” The ogre laughed. “Not so tough now, are you boy?!” *Rumble~~* However, his eyes widened when he saw the pile of ice shaking.

“RRRRRRRAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!” The pile broke apart as Drew broke free from the pile and charged at the ogre, grabbing a nearby icicle and leaping at him. “Have a taste of this!!” He roared, swinging the icicle like a club and striking the ogre, right in the face!!

The huge monster fell into the chasm and landed hard on the ground, smashing the ice spikes into pieces. Drew breathed heavily as he stared down at the ogre, he was lying still, groaning softly.

“I’ve wasted enough time...” He muttered before running across the chasm and into the cave on the other side.

(Back with the Mane 6 girls...)

Rainbow couldn’t believe what she was hearing. The leader of the Shadow-Bolts walked up to her. “We're the greatest aerial team in the Everfree Forest,” She explained as she circled around Rainbow Dash. “and soon we will be the greatest in all Equestria, but first, we need a captain. ”

Rainbow grew excited. “We need the most magnificent-” She added. “Yep.” Rainbow replied. “Swiftest-” “Yes.” “Bravest flyer in all the land.” “Yep,” Rainbow chuckled with pride. “it’s all true.” “We need...you.” The Shadow-Bolt leader finished.

“WOOHOO! Sign me up!” Rainbow cheered. “Just let me tie this bridge real quick and then we have a deal.” “No!” The Shadow-Bolt leader exclaimed, causing her to jump in shock. “It's them or us.”

On the other side of the gorge, the other girls were waiting. “Rainbow, what's taking so long?” Twilight asked in worry. However, she gasped when she saw Rainbow with the Shadow-Bolts. “Oh-no...” She muttered. “Rainbow! Don't listen to them.” She called out, but the fog rolled in.

Rainbow was getting conflicted. She wanted a chance to prove herself as Equestria’s greatest flier but leaving her friends behind was not something she wanted. “Well?” The Shadow-bolt leader asked. Silence fell...

“You...” Rainbow replied. “Thank you, for your offer.” She took to the air. “But,” she added, grinning. “I'm afraid I have to say no.” With that, she tied up the bridge and flew off to join her friends on the other side. The Shadow-Bolts scowled and disappeared into a dark mist.

The girls cheered as they crossed the bridge. “See?” Rainbow asked an impressed Twilight. “I'd never leave my friends hangin'.”

(Back with Drew...)

Drew was losing his mind in frustration, he had found himself in a gigantic maze with numerous corridors and passageways. For 2 hours, he had been wandering around it, trying to find some way of escape, but so far, all he found were dead ends.

“How long have I been wandering around here?” Drew moaned as he passed through what seemed to be his 20th passageway. “I’m gonna be a old man by the time I get outta of here.” Suddenly, he stopped and sniffed the air.

“Wait a second...” He muttered, as he smelled again. “That smells like...fresh air!” Drew picked up the pace, following the scent. “It’s getting stronger!!” Drew raced through the passageways, sniffed the clean fresh air. Finally, he reached the end of the maze and beamed with pride.

“Wait till the others hear about this...” He grinned as he walked through the passage way. Soon, he came to a large dining room, filled with delicious food. His eyes widened and his mouth slightly watered.

After climbing and passing through many obstacles, he wanted nothing more than to sit down and help himself to the food. However, just as he was about to reach for it, he froze. Something didn’t feel right...

There was an array of freshly cooked food in the middle of a room, with no other being in sight. Furthermore, how could anyone had known that he was coming? Drew stared at the food, part of him wanted to take some to fill his belly but another warned him that it was a trap, it could be poisoned or an illusion.

“Let’s see...” He muttered, as he picked a stone from the ground and held it in his hands. He stared at the food again, and in a split second, tossed the rock at the table. It struck a goblet and to Drew’s shock, it turned into a swarm of files and they buzzed off.

Soon, all the food transformed into swarms of creatures like wasps, beetles, rats, lizards and snakes. They all scurried, flew and slithered off, leaving an empty table behind. “It was an illusion...” Drew sighed. “What now?”

Suddenly, a golden light appeared before him and to his surprise, strange words appeared. “You are nearly there, young one.” They spoke. “Your destination is close, just break down that door.”

It pointed to a wooden door at the end of the room. Just as Drew wanted to ask, they disappeared. He stared at the door ahead of him. “Well,” he muttered, grinning. “this is it...” “Hang on, girls!” He exclaimed. “I’m coming!”

With a loud yell, Drew charged at the door and with all his might, he slammed against it. The door broke apart and in seconds, he was engulfed in a bright white light that filled the entire room and he felt himself being spun around and around until he passed out.
