Chapter 9: Meeting Princess Luna
“Urrgh...” Drew groaned again, as he opened his eyes and rubbed his aching head. He found himself in a dark place, almost a void. “Hello...” He called out again. “Anyone there?” “Please...” He walked around. “Where am I?”
“I passed all your trials!” He called out. “I’ve arrived at the top of the mountain!!” “You promised to send me back home!” He exclaimed. “Where...Are...You!?” He walked on, not knowing where he was or where he was going. Suddenly, he thought he heard someone crying.
“What’s that?” He wondered as he followed the sound of the sobbing. Suddenly, a light appeared, forcing Drew to cover his eyes. When it died down, he saw something that made his eyes grew wide.
Right before him was a beautiful woman; she had shriveled blue hair and wore a blue gown. She had a horn on her forehead, two blue wings on her back and a flowing blue tail at the end. She was restrained by thick blue chains to a wall by her wrists, waist and ankles. When he looked closer, he saw that she was crying. It was then he recognized her at once.
“Luna...?” He asked softly. Hearing his voice, the princess looked up at him and her eyes widened, her cheeks were stained with tears. “Who...” She whispered. “Who are thee?” “Auntie Luna, it’s me.” Drew replied.
Luna gasped, shock registered all over her face. “D-D-Drew...?” She whispered. “H-How...W-Why?” “I’m not really sure of it myself.” Drew replied, looking around. “Nightmare Moon threw me into a portal, and I had to climb a mountain.” “Oh no...” Luna replied, bowing her head. “She has you too...”
More tears welled her eyes. “Oh Drew...” She croaked out. “I’m...sorry...” “It’s all...my fault, I’ve...dragged you...into this...” “Don’t say that Luna!” Drew replied. “Hang on, I’m getting you out of here!” He tried reached to yank the chains off, but they emitted a dark aura which glowed a bit, forcing him to back off.
“It’s no good...” Luna sadly explained, as she struggled a bit; the chains clanking as she moved. “These chains are draining me of my magic and sense of will...” “I don’t know how much longer I can resist her...” She looked at him with concern. “Drew...please, you have to run...” she told him. “Please...if she...finds you...”
Drew looked at her in concern. “I’m not leaving you, Auntie.” He replied. “There has to be a way to free you.” “Drew, please!!” Luna exclaimed, hot tears leaking from her eyes. “It’s thy fault you’re trapped here!” “We’re Nightmare Moon, we are darkness, we hurt thousands and now....” She bowed her head. “We hurt you...thy precious little nephew.”
“That’s not true.” Luna gasped as she looked at Drew with wide eyes. “Have you forgotten the many times we’ve spent together?” “Ever since I was a baby,” he explained. “you’ve been visiting me in my dreams.” “Even when you were imprisoned on the moon,” he added. “you always managed to see me.”
“Every night before I woke up, you kept telling me to save you.” Drew explained, before placing his hands on her shoulders. “Now, I’m here, and I’m not leaving without you.” Luna’s eyes welled with tears. “Why...?” She asked, her teary eyes staring deep into Drew’s “Why are you risking so much for me, Drew?”
“Because no one deserves to be left alone.” Drew replied, leaving Luna stunned. “No one should ever have to suffer like this.” “Not me, not you and especially not your sister....” Luna gasped. “Tia?” She muttered. “Yes.” Drew nodded. “Mother regretted banishing you all these years ago.” He explained. “She blamed herself for letting you suffer all this time; she loved you, Auntie...She really loved you.”
“Even now, she has been trying to search for a way to save you...” Luna’s lips trembled. “How can you be so sure?” She croaked out. “Trust in her.” Drew replied simply. “Trust in family, Auntie...” He added before moving closer to her until their foreheads touched together. “We want you back...I want you back.”
Luna didn’t know what to say. “Drew...” she whispered, before Drew suddenly turned around and got into a fighting stance. “I think we have company...” He replied. “What are you doing?” She asked before she suddenly went pale. “Oh no...” she muttered. “Not her...”
A dark smoke appeared and molded into a figure. Soon, it revealed to be none other than Nightmare Moon. “You...” she snarled at Drew. “You proved to be more trouble than I thought...” “To think you would find her here...” She added, as she strode towards them. “No matter, I’ll personally eliminate you myself.”
“No!” Luna cried. “Please, don’t hurt him!” Nightmare Moon laughed as she looked at the chained-up princess. “And you... do you really think a mere boy will save you?” She taunted. “Even when your sister chose to banish instead of helping you...”
“Don’t you get it, Luna?” She added. “You’re weak, pathetic!!” “I made you what you are!” She continued. “I made you strong!” “Without me, you would still be that worthless princess living in your sister’s shadow!!” Those cruel words came out of pure excitement. “You would still be the scared little girl that no one cares about while your sister was loved and worshipped.” “YOU ARE NOTHING WITHOUT ME!!”
Drew’s hands balled into fists as he glared at her. As far as he knew, Nightmare Moon was the form of Luna’s jealously, but this...abomination must have a mind of its own if it enjoys insulting his aunt like this
Luna, on the other hand, looked down in shame. Nightmare Moon was right, she was weak. It was her weakness that created this monster. Her tears began pouring down from her eyes and sliding down her cheeks as her head hung low. The darkness seemed to take great pleasure in reminding her how forgotten she had become.
“You’re wrong...” Luna and Nightmare Moon turned to look at Drew who stood in front of the former. “Luna is stronger than you...” He shot back. “She’s stronger than you could ever be, witch!!” “How do you think she was able to keep you under control all this time!?” He asked. “How do you think she was able to visit me in my dreams even when she was stuck on the moon!?”
“Even now, she has been resisting you...” He added. “Even now, you haven’t truly taken her over.” “That proves, just how weak you are compared to her!!” Luna was amazed. “D-D-Drew...” she whispered. Nightmare Moon on the other hand, was enraged. “How dare you!?” She screamed, before she unleashed a dark tentacle and grabbed Drew by the throat. “Gak!!” Drew cried out.
“Drew!” Luan screamed in worry. Before long, Drew was dragged towards Nightmare Moon and slammed onto the ground in front of her. Drew tried to get up, but Nightmare Moon slammed her foot on his chest, causing him to gasp in pain.
“Don’t you dare compare me to her!!” She yelled. “I am Nightmare Moon; Empress of Darkness!!” she added. “I am stronger than Celestia or Luna combined!!!” Drew chuckled. “What’s wrong, witch?!” He taunted. “Are you scared?!” “Does the truth really hurt that much?!” he shot back.
“SILENCE!” Nightmare Moon screamed, stopping hard on Drew’s gut, causing him to gasp again. “What do you know, mortal?!” She summoned a whip and to Luna’s horror, she whipped at Drew on his chest. *FWHAP!!* “You don’t know anything about me!!”
“You don’t know the pain I suffered because of my sister!” She ranted, whipping him again and again. “How I constantly lived in her shadow!! How I hated seeing everyone enjoy her morning and not my night! HOW SHE MADE ME FEEL USELESS!!!”
“Drew!!” Luna screamed, struggling harder to break free from her chains. “Stop it, please!! You’re killing him!!” “You’re... wrong!” Drew screamed back, causing Nightmare Moon and Luna to gasp. He was badly scarred on his chest and face. “You think...you’re the one suffering?!”
“You’re...not...the only...one in pain...!” He argued, glaring at Nightmare Moon. “Did you...have...any idea...how Celestia felt...when she was forced...to banish her own sister?!” “How she would cry...every night...at the thought of losing Luna?!” He added. “So, don’t you tell me what pain feels like when haven’t seen what you did to her?!”
*FWHAP!!*
“SILENCE!!” Nightmare Moon screamed, striking her whip at Drew’s face. Luna’s eyes widened and her face grew pale when she saw blood fly out. “I’VE HAD IT WITH YOUR TAUNTS!!” She raised her whip high again .
“STOP IT!!!” Drew and Nightmare Moon froze and turned to see Luna, a look of heartbreaking sadness and tears were cascading down like waterfalls. “Please, stop....!” “Don’t hurt him!!” She begged. “I’m the one you want! I’m the one who made you like this!” “Please...” She croaked out, sobbing. “Don’t hurt my nephew...”
Silence fell... No one spoke a word. Suddenly, Nightmare Moon felt something, several strange presences in her castle. Drew felt it too and smiled. “It’s alright, Auntie...” He assured her, getting her attention. “You don’t have to worry.”
“W-What are you talking about?” She asked. Drew chuckled. “It’s my friends, they made it...” He replied. “They’re here to help us.” Luna grew confused. “What do you mean?” Nightmare Moon hissed angrily. “So, those girls got pass my traps...” She snarled. “No matter, all the more reason to finish you off!!”
*CRACK!* “AAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!” Drew screamed as he felt one of his ribs crack under Nightmare Moon’s foot. “DREW!” Luna screamed and watched in horror as the dark sorceress lifted him up by wrapping a tentacle around his neck.
“It’s...okay, Auntie....” Drew weakly replied, smiling at her. “Trust...in me, trust...in family...trust in... your sister...” Nightmare Moon formed a spear of dark magic and aimed it at Drew’s throat. “I’ve heard just about enough from you...” She growled, before turning to Luna. “Take one last look at your nephew, Luna!” She said to her. “It will be the last thing you ever see!”
“No!!” Luna screamed, struggling harder in her restraints. “Stop, STOP, STOOOOOPPPPPP!!!!!!!!” She screamed. Nightmare Moon raised the spear high. “Say farewell, young prince...” She taunted. Suddenly, just when it seemed to be the end, Luna suddenly remembered something.
(Flashback...)
It was a stormy night and poor Luna just had a terrible nightmare. She couldn’t go back to sleep, the looming shadows cast dark shapes around her room and she could hear strange, spine-chilling sounds everywhere.
Without the second thought, she raced into her sister’s bedroom. Imagine Celestia’s surprise and worry when she saw her sister crying her eyes out. “Shh...” she soothed, gently hugging Luna and wiping her tears with her wings. “It’s okay, you can sleep with me tonight...” She replied. “The shadows won’t harm you as long as I am here...”
Luna snuggled closer to Celestia, enjoying her warm embrace. She wished she would never leave. Suddenly, she was enveloped in a warm light and gasped when she found herself in the palace. “H-How?” she asked, looking around.
Suddenly, she heard someone on the balcony and turned to see her sister looking up at the full moon in the sky. “Tia...?” She gasped. “Tia!!” She exclaimed, running towards her. “I’m so glad to see you!” She rushed up to hug her, only for her to pass through her, much to her shock.
“Tia?” She asked again, reaching out again. To her surprise, her hand just passed through her. “Luna...” The said princess looked at Celestia as she spoke. “If only I tried harder... maybe you would be with me now...”
It was then Luna realized, she was inside a memory where Nightmare Moon trapped Celestia and began draining her power. Did that somehow connect to them? Or was it the bond they shared with the Elements had something to do with it?
Either way, she just stood and listened to Celestia as she continued. “I remember when our parent brought you home.” She smiled softly. “You were the most adorable little girl; you were so energetic, you almost always tipped over...” “I was so nervous that you wouldn’t like me.” She let out a solemn laugh. “But when you tipped over and hugged my face, all my nerves subsided.”
“Do you remember when you first tried to pronounce my name? The only part you got right was...Tia.” Luna’s eyes widened when she saw Celestia’s eyes well up with tears. “I’m sorry...Luna...” She croaked. “I’m sorry...I failed you...” “I remember the first day when I raised the sun; I was so nervous, but then you came running up to me.”
“I still remember the words clearly... ‘Tia, I want to grow up to be just like you’.” She covered her mouth to stifle the sobs, to no avail. “You were always there to support me, and I promised to look after you as your big sister...” She added. “When we accomplished something great, I felt so proud that I... began to lose sight of what was important...”
By now, Celestia’s tears were cascading down like two waterfalls. “It’s my fault...” She croaked out. “I let my ego get the best of me... I mistook your concerns and loneliness as childish overreactions... I failed to take them seriously and now...I may have lost you forever.”
Celestia completely broke down in tears. “I’m...sorry, Luna!” She wailed, in a tone of grief and self-hate. “It’s not fair, it's not fair that you have to suffer for my failures!” “Not a day goes by when I am reminded of how I failed you!!” She wrapped her arms around herself. “Only now, when it's too late, I wish to act as your big sister...!”
“Please...Luna...” She lifted her teary eyes to the full moon. “I would never abandon you...if given a chance to start over, I’ll gladly take it!!” “Please...” she whispered. “Can you ever find it in your heart to forgive me...?”
Luna was deeply moved to tears at what she saw. She couldn’t believe how much her sister was hurting. “No, sister...” she whispered softly. “It is I who should apologize to you... I should never have abandoned our bond...”
“Momma...” Luna turned around and her eyes widened to see a 2-year old Drew toddling over to her, holding onto a blanket. “Drew...” Celestia gasped, rubbing away her tears. “What are you doing, sweetie?” Drew rocked his little body side to side. “Getting some milk but I heard you crying.”
The little toddler tugged at her dress. “Is it about Auntie Luna?” Celestia sniffed as she picked up her little son and held him tightly. “Yes...sweetheart.” She croaked. “I miss her so much.” Drew wrapped his chubby arms around her neck and hugged her. “Don’t worry, momma.” He told her. “Auntie Luna will be okay...”
“How do you know?” Celestia asked. “I saw her, Momma.” He replied. “I saw Auntie Luna.” Celestia looked at him in shock. “You saw her...?” She asked. Drew nodded. “She visits me in my dreams, Momma.” He replied. “She plays with me, every night.”
Celestia listened in shock silence. “She tells me that bad moon lady keeps her locked up on the Moon,” he smiled. “but some day, I’m going to save her.” “One day, I’ll bring Auntie Luna back,” he added, proudly. “and we can be a family again.” He hugged his mother again. “So, don’t be sad, Momma.” He assured her. “I’ll save Auntie Luna”
Celestia grew a smile and kissed her son on the cheek. “Thank you, Drew...” She softly replied. Luna was also smiling. “Yes...thank you, Drew.” She whispered. “Thank you for never losing faith with me.”
“I...I won’t let this abomination win...” She added. “I won’t let it do as it pleases anymore.” A new surge of power flowed within Luna-
(Flashback end...)
“This is the end, boy!!” Nightmare Moon screamed as she prepared to plunge the spear on Drew’s neck. The prince closed his eyes as the spear glowed. He was ready to accept his fate.
*BOOM!!!*
A loud explosion of dark but benevolent energy knocked Nightmare Moon off her feet, causing her to release Drew. They looked and gasped to see Princess Luna, standing tall and proud. Her chains were gone and her long blue hair was flowing gracefully. Her blue gown shimmered brightly with white sparks like star in the night sky and her skin was glowing a deep cerulean blue.
“Auntie Luna!!” Drew exclaimed, grinning widely. Luna smiled at him and caressed his cheek. “Thank you, my dear nephew.” She replied, softly. “Thank you for never losing faith in me.” She turned to her dark counterpart. “Now, let us drive this parasite out of my body for good!!” She added, as her blue wings spread out wide.
“With pleasure!!” Drew declared. “RRRRAAAAAGGGGHHHHHH!!!!” Nightmare Moon screamed, charging forward, only for Luna to summon a shield strong enough for the dark maiden to crash into it.
“Eat fist, witch!!” Drew yelled as the shield dropped down and he delivered a punch to her gut, causing to gasp in pain. At the same time, Luna summoned a small orb and struck the dark maiden on the face, making her scream.
“Yeah, go get her Auntie!!” Drew cheered as he dodged several magic shots in his direction. Luna retaliated by shooting dozen magic shots into Nightmare Moon’s path, summoning a force field. The dark maiden’s hair solidified and lashed out at her, sending her flying back screaming.
“Hey!” Nightmare Moon turned, to see Drew lunging at her. “Kiss this!!” He added, kicking his foot at her face so hard that she landed on the ground. Nightmare Moon coughed out blood as Drew jumped away when a charged ball of energy struck at her, exploding.
Luna descended to the ground and landed next to Drew. The smoke cleared to see Nightmare Moon staggering to her feet; her armor badly damaged, blood coming out from her mouth and she was breathing heavily.
“How...?!” She screamed. “How is this possible?!” “I am power incarnate!!” She raged. “I am pure darkness!!!” “No...” Drew replied. “You’re just a shadow possessing a body.” “You are a miserable creature; born of envy, grief and spite...” he added. “Something that my aunt decided to move from.”
Luna smiled at him again. “Thou are correct, my nephew...” She replied proudly. “I thank you for it.” She glared at Nightmare Moon again. “Now...time to throw this monster out of my body for good.”
Electricity began to form around her as a giant violent and black orb appeared over her head. “No...No...NO!!!!” Nightmare Moon was close to losing it. “I WILL NOT LOSE!!” “DARKNESS WILL RULE ALL OVER EQUESTRIA!!!”
With that, Nightmare Moon took a deep breath as magic began to form around her. “DIE!!!” She screamed as she launched a dark beam from her mouth. “Thou shalt not rule me any longer, monster!” Luna declared as she sent the magic orb of energy forward, colliding with the beam.
“I’m here for you, Auntie!!” Drew added as he reached out and held Luna’s hands. The magic orb of energy grew bigger and stronger, pushing back Nightmare Moon’s attack. “NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!” The dark maiden screamed in terror as the magic orb slammed into her.
*BOOM!!!!!!*
A colossal explosion rang out in the entire room, creating a massive cyclone and engulfing the room in a bright, white light.
