Chapter 2: Guard Training

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

(Jacob POV)

Luna guided us into a small office, a pale skinned man in golden armour with purple inlays sat at desk covered in stacks of papers. He looked up “Princess Luna, this is a pleasant surprise. How may I help you?”

Luna smiled introducing “Captain Shining Armour, this Susie and um…”

I smiled “I’m Jacob, we are here to learn more about controlling our power. Do you know someone who can teach us?”

Luna frowned “We need someone who can train people with incredible power. Those who are capable of wingless flight and output incredible power.”

Shining Armour frowned “I’ll train them personally, they will need personal training from someone gifted in fighting.”

Sarah bowed “Thank you Captain Armour.”

He guided us out of the castle into the castle grounds, flowers of various colours were scattered around. We arrived in an empty area near the castle, he frowned “Come at me without using all of your power. I want to see your skill.”

I nodded, rushing at him. He parried my arm before kicking me backwards. He frowned “Don’t just attack, dodge and counter. Block your opponent's punch and counter it with your own, when attacking first don’t be so obvious. You need to know how to feign attacks, how to close distance and quite a few other techniques.”

I groaned as rubbed my chest “Noted.” I staggered to my feet “You kick really hard.”

Shining Armour nodded “I wouldn't be the Captain of the Guard of if I didn’t. Now come at me.” I burst forward, I darted to his left dodging a kick. I feinted a right hook moving into a left uppercut. He blocked my fist with his hand “Better.”

I leapt backwards, he rushed at me swinging a punch. I dodged, barely being able to block a sudden kick to my right. I grimaced “My sister would be doing much better, she was always the one to end fights that I started.”

Susie called out “That’s because you tried to fight someone twice your age because they called you some stupid name.”

I growled back “It’s not like you didn’t fight people because they insulted you!”

Susie shouted “I did fight them if they older than me by several years! You never learned how to pick your fights. Even when you fought someone your own age you lost, you were never a very good fighter.”

Shining Armour smacked me “Stop arguing with your sister.” He then turned to her “Now it’s your turn. Prove to me that your words hold merit.” I walked off the field, I wondered if she was going to do any better.

(Susie POV)

I walked towards Shining Armour, passing my brother on the way. My brother was a bit of a brawler, I on the other hand had some martial arts experience. Still I couldn’t mess around with a trained soldier. I raised my hands, getting into a fighting stance. I darted forward closing the distance, I sent a few punches at him. He blocked my punches, I threw a jab. He guarded with his right. He then swung a left hook, I dodged to his left kicking him in the side.

Shining Armour leapt sideways, getting into his own stance. He rushed at me, did the same. I ducked under his punch aiming for his face. He caught it delivering sharp knee to my gut, I gasped for air. I staggered backwards, clutching my stomach. I steadied myself, ready for him to make his move.

Shining Armour charged forward, I blocked one of his punches and ducked under the second. I grabbed his arm tossing over my shoulder. I was about to say something when a messenger ran over “Captain Armour, we have a visitor! The princesses want you and those two there.”

Shining Armour nodded, he turned to us “I’m sorry but this must be important. It may be one of the Sadala Defense Force, they are supposed to defend Planet Sadala but they also patrol the universe seeking out threats to different planets.”

We followed him, we were looked at strangely by the people. I guess our colours were fairly muted compared to bright colours of the people here. Jacob frowned “It’s good to know the universe has protectors.” I nodded in agreement, I wonder who was arriving. We walked through the castle, the guards standing stalwart at the doors.

We arrived a what looked like a small dock attached to the castle but with landing pads instead of piers. A short, slim man with spiky black hair walked over to us. He was wearing a blue undersuit with a strange suit of what I could assume was armour. He bowed “I am Cabba, an elite member of Sadala Defense Force, we detected a dimensional anomaly and I was sent here to investigate.”

Shining Armour bowed “Sir, these two came through a dimensional anomaly. They have been quite cordial and have been training to join our guard. I assure you that they mean no harm.”

Cabba smiled “Thank you for being honest with me Captain Armour.” He then turned to us “Are you two strong?” Jacob and I nodded. He bowed “I may return. Lord Champa, our universe’s God of Destruction may wish to meet up with you. He has been seeking strong fighters to join his team should another tournament happen.”

I grinned “I’m all in for that, I’d love to test my strength.”

Jacob frowned at me “You’re okay with fighting for the amusement of gods?”

I deadpanned “No I like fighting. Besides, if we refused him he might just destroy the entire planet. He is a God of Destruction, weren’t you listening?”

He gulped “Right.” I sighed, stupid dunderhead.

Cabba bowed once more before returning to his ship and leaving for his home planet. I bumped Jacob “Come on Jacob we need to keep training, after all we now have an expectation placed on us.” I grabbed his arm, dragging him toward the training room as I heard him sigh.
