He Loves Me Not?
Chapter 2- Mixed Messages
Previous ChapterEverything was ready.
The tea was prepared, the cucumber sandwiches sat neatly on the table, and Fluttershy was patiently waiting for Discord to arrive. Today was the day that she confessed everything.
It would have been an understatement to say that she was nervous, but she kept telling herself that this was going to be fine. It had to be. If she didn’t tell him now… she wasn’t sure she ever would.
The knock came on the door, and her heart flipped in her chest. “Here goes everything,” she thought.
“Discord! Please come in.” Fluttershy beamed as she lead him inside, and the draconequus in front of her sauntered in.
“Thank you, Fluttershy dearest.” Discord grinned as he made his way to the couch, and draped himself across it as he examined the tea party spread in front of him.
“My..” he continued, “this is quite the layout you’ve got here today. You’ve outdone yourself—even more so than usual!” He then began to tease, “what, is it a special occasion? Besides my being here, of course.”
He may of been teasing, but the Pegasus felt her face flush as she took her seat across from him, and tried to hide her shaking as she poured the tea. “O-Oh I mean not really.” She stammered slightly.
She knew it wasn’t true. This was the day she’d been waiting for. Everything had lead to this. If all went well… who knows what would happen? Butterflies filled her stomach.
“Except,” she continued, “there is one thing I wanted to talk to you about.” Discord looked up at her as she spoke: she sounded serious, and her tone of voice made even him pay attention for a moment.
“Oh? Well do go on.” He rested his chin on his paw hand and grinned. “You have all my attention.”
Fluttershy gulped.
“I just think you should know that I... I…”
“Yes?..” He raised an eyebrow, now quite intrigued by the whole thing.
“I really… I mean really like y-“
“Yes!” He exclaimed, jumping up abruptly.
“What?” She smiled, her heart pounding. He liked her back?
“Yes you’re exactly right.” He continued, “Celestia does need my help with Twilight’s upcoming coronation.” He shook his head, and Fluttershy’s face fell. “I just can’t believe I almost forgot about her letter.” He snapped his fingers and an official looking letter appeared, disappearing just as quickly as he snapped his fingers again.
“But… but...” She struggled to find her words. Oh how fast this had all crashed down around her.
“Never fear my dear,” he grinned, patting her on the head. “We’ll make up the missed tea another time! Ta ta!” And, with another snap of his fingers, he was gone, and Fluttershy now sat alone to wonder what had just happened.
Did he.. just leave her? Sure, she knew that Discord had quite a habit of appearing or disappearing at some of the most inconvenient times—but this seemed as though he was trying to avoid her all together. But he wouldn’t do that.. right?
Not unless… he didn’t feel the same way. The Pegasus tried to swallow away the dread that had formed in her throat. This couldn’t be happening. Something was wrong here-
A knock on the door.
“Discord?” She perked up.
“Nope! It’s Pinkie!” Came her friends loud voice from beyond the door.
Fluttershy deflated again. “Oh… come in.” She sighed.
“Hiya!” The pink pony bounced through the doors, and began to circle the Pegasus. “How are you? I bet you’re probably sad, and that’s not good. I don’t like when friends are sad!” She rattled off.
“N-No I’m not sad, I was just thinking…” Fluttershy tried to explain.
“Pfttt! You’re sad, and that’s ok! I mean it’s not okay, but we can fix it! It’s about Discord isn’t it?”
“How did you-“
“I knocked and you got all excited and said “Discord?” in your super sweet hopeful voice!” Fluttershy blushed as Pinkie continued to explain. “But then when you realized it was me you sounded super sad, which means that you and Discord probably had a fight, and he left like he always does-“
Fluttershy cringed, Pinkie noticed, and she tried to make it sound better than it was.
“-and you really wanna talk to him and make up because you’re the bestest of besties and besties shouldn’t fight!” The pony finished, out of breath.
“Well... you’re right about a lot of that.” Thought they Pegasus couldn’t help but wince at the term ‘besties’.
“Of course I am! My Pinkie Sense told me.” She was now helping herself to the leftovers from the abruptly ended tea party.
Fluttershy tried to push her thoughts of Discord to the back of her head for the moment, as she walked over to Pinkie.
“… Aside from that though, what brings you by?” She tried to change the subject.
Pinkie inhaled a mini tea cake. “Oh yeah! Twilight wants us all to go over one of the lists for her coronation! You know how she is with her lists.” She giggled.
Figuring she could use a distraction, she nodded in return. “Oh sure, come on we can go together.” The Pegasus went to secure her saddle bags, before walking to the door with Pinkie bouncing beside her.
“Oh and um, Pinkie,” she shifted awkwardly. “Do you mind… not telling anyone about... my being sad over Discord? I-I wouldn’t want them to worry.” She mainly wasn’t ready for them to find out about her feelings this way.
“Don’t worry!” Pinkie said, making a dramatic motion of zipping her lips. “My lips are sealed!”
Discord was not at Canterlot Castle, but instead found himself back in his cave, pacing. Oh Celestia, how foolish had he been? She was about to confess. He was sure of it. Someone as wonderful as she was, was about to confess her love for him.
And he couldn’t let it happen.
Not now. Not like this. Not until he could prove to the world, to himself, that he deserved her. He had so much to make up for. So many, many mistakes that apologizing would never solve. And he was so close to helping Twilight, so close to proving that he had learnt about friendship. So close to proving that he could deserve to be with Fluttershy.
It was only a couple more months. He just had to stay quiet a couple more months. The other ponies were already planning Twilight’s coronation. It would all be over soon. And at some point in between there, he realized he’d have to make it up to her for abandoning their tea party so suddenly. “Just one more thing I have to apologize for,” he thought, glumly.
The chimaera glanced back to the picture of them that still hung on the wall.
“Soon.” He mumbled, to no one in particular. “Soon I’ll make this all up to you, Flutters.”
And he was sure that he would.
Author's Note
Heya everycreature!
Sorry if there are delays/no set schedule for this. Again I’m just working on it, mostly during weekends, between college-but I’m scored to see where it goes!
Just a note-this will not be a copy of s9 or anything. I won’t be depicting the battle between the trio of villains vs Equestria in this book: I’ll be showing the before and after! Pretty much the goal for me was to show what FiM didn’t. So while we’ll probably see Fluttershy’s POV of Discord’s confession-the whole battle won’t be included, but the aftermath sure will be!
Thank you so much for all the love so far, I hope you’re enjoying it! And as always, (constructive) criticism is always welcome, as I’m quite new to writing on Fimfiction!
Thank you lovelies ![]()
