Chapter 8: First Day of School / A Sleepover with Cadance

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Five months later

It was the beginning of the fall season, Cody had finished eating breakfast with his family.

“Are you ready for your first day of school, Cody?” Celestia asked.

“I don’t know, mommy. What if the other foals hate me like Blueblood does?” Cody replied.

“I’m pretty sure most of them will be nice to you like Sunset and Twilight are,” Celestia said.

Cody blushed at the very mention of Twilight, then asked, “Will I be going to school with her and Sunset?”

“I’m afraid not at the moment, you’ve only scratched the surface of your Force abilities. For the time being, you’re going to Canterlot Grade School,” Blaze replied.

Once Cody put his shoulder bag on, Cadance walked him to school.

“I’ll be here to pick you up at 3 pm. Have a nice day, little cuz,” Cadance said as she hugged Cody.

“Bye, Cady,” Cody replied.

Soon enough, Cody went into the classroom and met up with his teacher. He was a bright green earth pony stallion with a black and red streaked mane and tail, lavender eyes, and a pine tree with two crossed pencils for a cutie mark. He also wore a gray shirt and red pants with his cutie mark on them.

“Morning, my new class. I’m your kindergarten teacher, Mr. Pencil Pine,” the teacher said.

“Hi, Mr. Pencil Pine,” the whole class including Cody greeted.

Once the class started, Pencil Pine went on telling the students what they were going to learn throughout the year as Cody listened.

Later on, it was time for recess. He then met a seven-year-old yellowish orange pegasus colt with a blue mane and tail, blue eyes, and a shield with a lightning bolt for a cutie mark. He also wore a black long-sleeve shirt over a white short-sleeve and blue-green pants.

“Hi, Prince Cody. I’m Flash Sentry,” the colt said, “My mom told me about you, she’s a maid at the castle.”

“Good to meet you, Flash,” Cody replied before asking, “Is Kimono your mom?”

“Yes. Do you know her?” Flash asked.

“She’s my foalsitter,” Cody replied.

“Nice. Have you met my big sister, Misty Sky?” Flash asked.

“Yes. She’s friends with my cousin, Cadance,” Cody replied, “Do you want to be my friend?”

“Sure. I’ll be your friend,” said Flash.

As recess went on Cody and Flash played together, then he also explained to Flash about the Equestria’s place in the galaxy, as well as the Force, the Jedi and the Sith, and the Empire.

“Over the past few months since the week after my fifth birthday, I’ve been training to be a Jedi,” Cody said, “I also had a very bad Force vision on the night of my fifth birthday.”

“That’s great. It’s a shame you saw something so terrible,” Flash replied.

“My father takes it seriously. He and my uncle Dagger have been going on salvaging missions to acquire building material and weapons for building effective defenses against the Empire, in case they find our planet. He ordered a huge construction project of starfighters and such,” Cody explained.

Later in the day, the bell rang signaling all the foals that the first day of school was over.

“See you soon, Flash,” Cody said.

“You too, Cody,” Flash replied.

Just then, Cadance came to the entrance and hugged Cody.

“Hi, Cady!” Cody said.

“Hi, Cody! Everything ok on your first day at school?” Cadance asked.

“Yes. I made a new friend, his name’s Flash Sentry and he’s your friend Misty’s brother,” Cody replied.

“Nice. Any new friends in your kindergarten class?” Cadance asked.

“No, the other foals in my class don’t seem to pay any attention to me,” Cody replied.

After Cody’s Jedi training ended for the day, he was having dinner with his family. As always, he, Blaze, and Dagger had fish with their meals. Blueblood, as always sat away from the others.

Once dinner was finished, Cody went grabbed his father’s shaving cream, then went into the lounge where Blueblood was laying on the couch. Using the Force, he sprayed it into Blueblood’s dangling left hand, then got a feather duster and ran it down Blueblood’s face. This triggered a reflex action leading his hand to splat the shaving cream on his face.

Cody then left the lounge laughing very hard, then he put the shaving cream back in the bathroom and heard Blueblood shout in anger, “CODY!!! When I find you, you’ll be sorry and I’m gonna beat you until you pass out!”

Cody ran as quickly as he could hoping to find his parents, Dagger, or Cadance. All of a sudden, Blueblood spotted him and shouted, “There you are, you little flat-faced freak!” Cody screamed, then ran until he reached Cadance’s room. He knocked on her door repeatedly shouting, “Cady! Help me! Cady, let me in! Cady, please let me in!”

Cadance opened her door and noticed Cody whimpering and hugging her tightly with red eyes.

“Cody, what’s wrong?” Cadance asked.

“Blueblood’s after me and he’s gonna hit me again!” Cody replied with fear.

“Shhh..Calm down, Cody. I’ll handle him,” Cadance said.

“Girls, can you keep an eye on Cody while I have a talk with Blueblood?” Cadance asked.

Her friends nodded in response, then said, “Hi, Cody.”

“Hi, girls,” Cody replied, “What’s going on here?”

“Cadance invited us here for a sleepover,” Diamond Rose said.

“What’s new with you, Lemony Gem?” Cody asked.

“I’m dating a really nice colt named Hoity Toity,” Lemony Gem replied.

“I’ve heard he’s looking into joining the fashion business one day,” Cody said.

Meanwhile, in the hallway outside, Blueblood tried to enter the room hearing Cody talking, but Cadance blocked him.

“Cadance, get out of my way!” Blueblood said.

“No! I will not let you hit Cody again! Why are you chasing him?” Cadance asked.

“He pranked me, through reflex making me splat shaving cream in my face!” Blueblood replied.

“He wouldn’t have done it if you hadn’t hit him or picked on him in the first place,” Cadance said. “Don’t try to challenge me, for my magical power and connection to the Force exceeds your own and I’d win a fight against you.”

“Fine! I’m outta here, and I’m telling Aunt Celestia what he did to me,” Blueblood replied.

“No, I’ll tell her you were chasing Cody and that you tried to hit him again, you deserved that prank,” Cadance said.

Blueblood left grumbling to himself, then Cadance went back in her room to rejoin her friends and Cody.

“Cady, since I’m here, can I stay with you and the girls tonight?” Cody asked.

“Sure, little cuz. I just need to tell Aunt Celestia and Uncle Blaze you’re with me tonight,” Cadance said.

Soon enough, Cody, Cadance, and the other girls were playing ‘Truth or Dare’.

“Cadance, truth or dare?” Fleur asked.

“Dare,” Cadance replied.

“I dare you to hold Cody upside-down,” Fleur said.

Cadance gently flipped Cody upside-down with her magic.

“Whoa!” Cody yelped.

He put his hands on Cadance’s legs just to keep himself steady. Afterwards, Cadance flipped him back to a right-side up position and back on her lap.

“Girls, I think Cody should have a turn,” Cadance said.

“Fleur, truth, or dare?” Cody asked.

“Truth,” Fleur replied.

“Do you have a crush on anypony?” Cody asked.

Fleur blushed upon hearing that, she hesitated until she answered, “Yes. A colt named Fancy Pants. We bumped into each other just five months ago.”

After everyone finished Truth or Dare and a round of 20 Questions, Misty Sky decided to tell a ghost story. Before the others could say a word, all at once Misty’s tone changed into something spooky, something… sinister as she said, “This story is called The Legend of the Headless Pony…

The thunder clashed, putting Cody on edge. Cadance and the others tries to put on calm faces since they’ve listened to and told these kinds of stories before.

“It was a dark and stormy night, just like this one,” Misty began, “And ponies were having a slumber party, just like this one…”

Another lightning flash appeared, displaying the howling rain and the outside of the castle. By then, Cody and the others trembled from each side. He hugged Cadance tightly, not wanting her to let go of him as he was scared. Misty was just near the end of her ghost story.

“… And just when the last pony thought she was safe…” Misty continued in a low voice. “There, standing right behind her, just inches away was – The Headless Horse!”

A gasp escaped from Cody and the others’ lips in complete unison before another thunder clash sent them screaming and Misty reappeared with a blanket over her head making her look headless. Cody screamed as he kept hugging Cadance tightly. Once the story was over, Cadance patted Cody lovingly as she loosened her arms.

“It’s alright, Cody. The story is over,” Cadance said.

“Good. ‘Cause that story was nearly as scary as my first Force vision,” Cody replied.

Cody, Cadance, and the others turned on the portable holocaster and watched a speeder bike race on the HoloNet. Cody and Cadance enjoyed watching races on the HoloNet, every night, they always watched it with Celestia, Blaze, Dagger, and even R5 and Padme. Now they were sharing this experience with friends, as they got their first taste of such advanced tech.

Soon enough, it was time for everyone to go to sleep. Fleur, Diamond Rose, Lemony Gem, and Misty Sky were laying in their sleeping bags. Cody was sleeping with Cadance in her bed, he soon fell asleep in his cousin’s embrace.
