The Syknoian War: Part One

The Young Six were appointed to be in charge of the six branches in the fleet. Sandbar commanded the ponies, Yona commanded the yaks, Silverstream commanded the hippogriffs, Gallus commanded the griffins, Smolder commanded the dragons, and Ocellus commanded the changelings. The soldiers were sent to space on shuttles to board their respective transport vessels. The six commanders were the last to board and the troops prepared to set off to fight the Syknoians. After a week of constant launches, everyone was ready to go. Upon getting word that all of the soldiers were ready, Cadence called to the commanders after boarding Sandbar's ship herself and going to her own quarters.

"All Commanders, report in. Give me a go/no-go for deployment.", said Cadence over the radio.

"This is Sandbar. We are go.", said Sandbar.

"Hippogriffs are go.", said Silverstream.

"Griffins go.", said Gallus.

"We are go.", said Yona.

"This is Smolder. We're go."

"Ocellus here, we are go for engagement."

Cadence activated the final countdown for the jump to warp speed. When she reached zero, the automated systems on board the six command ships fired the engines and the soldiers were sent shooting through space at more than 3000 m/s. In only two hours, the ships dropped out of warp just three miles from the planet where the first defense squadron was based. They immediately began getting readouts of Syknoian ships lifting off and flying out to engage in battle. Knowing that the first battle was about to begin, the six commanders started dispatching their first groups of pilots.
