Chapters The trot to the village was a relatively lengthy one, but being they had met in the morning, they grew close to the village around mid afternoon. Pushing branches out of the way, finally clearing out of the brush they had waded through, the group was met with the sight of a busy village. Stepping aside, proudly smiling, Adeau and Malikii watched as their guests gawked, scanning over the open area.
Kara and Fenris looked on, eyes going wide in both wonder and surprise. They had assumed there wasn’t going to be all too much of a village to welcome them, but they were awfully wrong. From their view at the outskirts alone, plentiful amounts of zebras were visible all around. Carrying various objects, vials, and more, dozens of them seemed to be going about their day. They ranged in size, from about the average pony’s to some that even dwarf that of Adeau and Malikii. The pair of ponies exchanged glances, realizing their erroneous judgment of the scale this village could hold, but were soon snapped to attention by their hosts.
“This is our village, little ponies," Malikii proudly explained, waving his forehoof out in a presenting manner. “The pride and joy of our people.”
Surveying the landscape, Fenris tugged his scarf. “Wow…I, uh, I didn’t expect there to be so many of you guys here.”
Adeau smirked, focusing on the pegasus. “Well of course there are. We are a thriving community, and you’ll be sure to learn just how capable we are on your visit here.”
More than eager to enjoy a warm meal and some cool refreshments, Kara eyed the zebra pair. Scrunching her snout, wiping the sweat from her forehead, she grumbled. “Right right ~ so can we, yknow, go in?”
Malikii walked up beside her, laying a hoof on her shoulder while towering over her. “Of course you can. I don’t think I can even recall the last time we had an earth pony visit our humble village.” Turning to Fenris, his smile furthered. “Or a pegasus. I’m sure the entire village will be…pleased with your presence.”
Fenris could only awkwardly chuckle in response, as Kara moved herself away from Malikii. Trotting beside Fenris, she furrowed her brow. “Well then, by all means, lead the way.”
Simply nodding in return, the two brothers began making their way towards the entrance. Following suit, huddled closely together, Fenris and Kara tailed them. It wasn’t that the sheer volume of zebras worried the two, afterall, they were more than capable of handling themselves even against such a large volume of strangers, but something compelled them to remain close together.
As they followed their presumably well-meaning hosts, they took notice of the village goers around them. The claim that ponies weren’t common around these parts seemed to ring true, as every zebra around them eyed them with interest. Pausing their work, conversations, or whatever else they may have been doing, each and everything inhabitant of the village focused their gaze on the two unforeseen visitors. Kara and Fenris glanced all around, slight discomfort settling in with all the attention they were receiving. They knew they weren’t the most expected guests, but it seemed like they were quite the spectacle to behold.
Feverently following their leads, they came to a halt as they arrived before a relatively modest, yet cozy, hut. Finely cut wood made up its walls, while a mixture of materials formed a roof. The hut rested on the very edge of the village, yet it was very clearly higher quality than all the rest they had walked past. Looking up at the home, the two shot a confused look at their tour guides.
Malikii chuckled, before leaning downwards and leveling his head with the pair. “This, Kara and Fenris, is where you’ll be staying.”
Fenris gave the zebra a quizzical look, before eyeing the hut. “Really? This is bigger than almost all the other homes we came across, why would you lend it to us?”
“Especially since we’re only going to be here for a day," Kara added, sharing Fenris’ skeptical expression.
“That’s because you two are our guests of honor, and thus you must be treated as such," a loud, booming voice from within the hut called out.
The sheer power and volume behind the voice caused Fenris and Kara to jump, both instinctively taking a readied stance. Eyeing the hut’s door, glaring at it cautiously, they watched as the door slowly crept open. Stepping out from within its confines, a massive zebra stud came into view.
If Fenris and Kara thought Malikii and Adeau were big, they were sorely mistaken. Whoever this new stallion was, was an absolute behemoth. “The pleasure is all ours, Obo. We’ve only been here for a few minutes but it’s great to meet you," Fenris began, giving a subtle bow in return.
Kara followed suit, ensuring she treated Obo with the same respect he gave them. “And it’s a truly wonderful village you’ve got here!”
Obo stood back up, nodding his head towards Malikii and Adeau. Watching as they trotted past him and into the abode, he turned away from the two ponies. “Thank you, I appreciate the kind words. Allow me and your guides to prepare the home for you; it should only be a few minutes.”
Watching Kara and Fenris nod in understanding, he gave them a warm smile before reentering the hut. The interior of the home was abundant with Zebrican artifacts, its walls lined with various masks, art pieces, and more - all rich with Zebrican culture. Noting the two smaller zebras standing further in the hut, waiting by the foot of a massive bed, Obo walked past them and towards the wall.
Resting a hoof on a painting, he smiled. The illustration was one of old Zebrican history, depicting a rather vivid image. Obo whirled his head to face the smaller zebra, glaring at him. “And that would be…?”
“The mare, Kara, said she knows a lot about herbs and such. There’s a chance she might know about Estrum," Malikii clarified.
“Is that so?” Standing back up, Obo shrugged his shoulders. “Fine then. You two will keep an eye on them tonight. Lurk around the hut and keep an ear out for any discussion. The ponies realizing what we’re mixing their food and drinks with would be problematic, so it’s best if we know what they’re conspiring at all times. If anything worrisome is heard, report it back to me."
“But isn’t this your home? Where will you be?” Adeau questioned, finishing stirring the tea infused with the aphrodisiac herb.
“As our tradition states, any guests of honor stay at the leader’s home. I will simply reside in one of the spare huts. You’ll be able to find me.” He raised a brow, eyeing the two brothers. “You both understand your task, correct?”
The duo nodded in understanding.
“Good, now begone. It’s best we let our visitors…settle in.”
Motioning for the two to leave, he followed them out the front of the hut. Stepping back out, noting the setting sun, he trotted over towards the ponies. The two of them were resting on their haunches, curiously looking around and discussing with one another while they waited. Seeing him approach, they scurried to their hooves.
“Sorry for the wait, little ponies, your residence for your stay is now ready.” Gesturing towards the entrance, he smiled. “We’ve prepared a traditional Zebrican drink for you two inside. Please help yourselves, I’m sure you’re tired from all your traveling.” Nudging his head towards Adeau and Malikii, he continued. “If any issues arise, please let one of those two know. Your comfort and enjoyment while you’re here is our most important goal.”
“Wow, thanks!” Fenris started, soon throwing a concerned look at Obo. “Is there anything we could do to repay the hospitality?”
Obo struggled to contain a devilish smirk, before shaking his head dismissively. “Trust me, your company will be more than enough to repay any favors.”
“Well, if that’s the case, we’ll head right on in!” Kara happily shouted, quickly trotting past them and into the hut.
Awkwardly smiling at Obo, exchanging quick thank yous to Malikii and Adeau both, Fenris followed his partner into the hut. “And now, we wait ."

Fenris rolled his eyes, taking his scarf off and laying it on the far end table. “Yknow, if we just took the train we’d have been staying at an inn since yesterday.”

Kara simply shrugged her shoulders, not giving his concern much thought. “I mean we are the first ponies they’ve seen in ages, so I guess staring is a given.”

“Pfft , you wish," she chuckled, glancing out the far window and taking note of the rising sun. “Now c’mon, before they start waking up.”

Nodding in approval, Kara hopped off the bed. “Good. Let’s go. The sooner we’re out of this seemingly not-so-nice village, the better.”
The pair trotted towards the hut’s door, slowly creaking it open and peeking their heads out. Fenris chuckled and nodded in approval, turning his attention back to their destination. As long as they got to the main entrance, they’d be able to get back on track. Looking back with lidded eyes, Obo warmly smiled at them. “Well, in some time I’ll be your Master .”
His remark led the two of them to recoil in unison, taken aback by the absurd claim. Fenris ignited his scarf with magic, while Kara’s necklace shimmered with light.
“Do you seriously think you can stop us all alone?!” Kara growled, fiercely glowering at Obo.
Obo rolled his eyes, before sighing. “Who said I’m alone?”
