“Thanks for the news, Shining… okay, she’s just about done here, so… got it. Bye.”

Twilight Sparkle hung up and slipped her phone back in her pocket. She looked back at the skatepark, where a helmeted figure on a multi-colored board raced all over. Other skaters watched in awe at the cool tricks the figure performed. When the routine was finished, the figure sped back up a ramp…

...and touched down next to Twilight. Reaching up to its helmet, the figure removed it to reveal flowing hair of multiple colors. She shook it loose, kicking her board into her arm.
“Woo!” she cheered, punching the air. “Did you SEE that awesome grinding, Twi?! And that three-sixty hardflip? Oh! Don’t forget that five-forty nose grab!”

Twilight just smirked and rolled her eyes. Rainbow Dash, ladies and gentlemen. Competitive. Athletic. And all out self-respecting. She just wouldn’t be herself without it.

“You did pretty good out there.”

“Pretty good? Pretty good?!” the jock shot back in disbelief. “You’ve just bared witness to the most amazing skateboarding ever, and all you can say is ‘pretty good’?!”

“Okay, okay!” Twilight chuckled. “You were amazing, Dash. By the way, my brother has a message for you.”

“Heh. Lay it on me,” Rainbow said with crossed arms.

“He says to knock off going past the speed traps on your morning runs. According to Officer Soarin, you clocked three hundred miles per hour on the road leading into the city.”

Rainbow’s magenta eyes shot open. “Three hun- wait, wait, wait. Hold on a minute, Twilight. I didn’t go anywhere near any speed traps today. In fact, I skipped my morning run today to help out with AJ!”

“You… didn’t?” Twilight asked, confusion seeping in.

“Nuh-uh! And no way would I run out of the city unless something was up! Wasn’t that just another car or something?”

“Uh, Soarin didn’t report seeing many vehicles on his shift,” Twilight reported. “Not even when his radar went off. I… I think it was broken or something.”

“Could be. He should probably get it fixed.”

“But he swore he saw something on that road.”

Rainbow cut her off. “Hey, boredom will do that to you. Now, if you’ll excuse me…”

SHOOM! In a rainbow-like blur, she was off and away, leaving Twilight in the dust. The girl was left alone with her thoughts, a thinking expression on her face.

If Soarin really did see something out there, how could it move that fast? Unless magic is at work here, something doesn’t add up…

Sunset Shimmer sighed as she fished out her keys. She’d been helping out Fluttershy at the animal shelter, and Pinkie wouldn’t stop jabbering about some “weird guy” she’d seen hanging out in the city. According to the cheerful girl, the person in question barely made any social contact with anyone. It was like he was invisible… because he wanted to be.

Sunset had a sense of deja vu. This better not be like Wallflower again…

“You don’t think your prolonged isolation is making you a bit crazy, perhaps?” a nasal voice said.

Sunset froze just before her key could touch the door to her apartment. She turned down the hallway, where the voice continued through another door.

“Crazy? Me? No way, doc. You got me all wrong.” another voice said, clearly the same one she just heard… but normal.

Crazy? Doc? That room wasn’t a psychiatrist’s office, as far as she could tell. And that door was locked, right? So how did he (whoever he was) manage to get in there?

“And despite all these so-called friends of yours deep down…” the voice from earlier said, slowly reducing to a normal yet saddened tone. “...you are still rather lonely?”

Lonely? Was… was he the guy Pinkie was talking about?

“Perhaps… you’re afraid you’ll be alone forever.”

The words hung in Sunset’s mind. Alone forever…

She shook her head, hearing the doorknob turn. She unlocked the door to her apartment and stepped inside, not wanting to make it awkward for the person heading out.
