A Knight and Princess
My name is Arthur Williams. I’m twenty-six years old and it was just another quiet day here in Canterlot Castle. With Equestria being so peaceful, I often wonder whether or not the guard was needed in the Castle. However, being training most of my life to become a knight and being the only human in Equestria, I couldn’t really complain about joining the Royal Guard. In all honestly, I still don’t understand how I got here. I was hunting some wolves that attacked some people close to my home, explore a random cave and suddenly I appeared in the hedge maze of the Castle. This sudden shift to Equestria was help when the first pony that I meet was none other than the leader of Equestria, Princess Celestia. Being rather tall for someone from my home, I actually stood at eye level to her.
After introductions and giving her a respected bow to her, I told her of what had happened to me. Apparently, objects and sometimes creatures would slip through naturally occurring magical portals. At first, I was a little questionable when it came to the subject of magic, but once her horn glowed with a golden aura and levitated me a few inches off the ground and the fact that she was a talking pony with a horn and wings, my questions were quelled. After that little demonstration, her guards appeared. They may have pointed their spears at me after seeing my sword, but Celestia said that I was no threat. After explaining to them why I was armed, I explained what I was, a knight of England and that I had only a few weeks ago returned from the great 3rd Crusade and that a pack of wolves had attacked my home, so I was on the hunt for them. After that, Princess Celestia had invited me to the training field to show off my marshal prowess. Impressed by my display, Celestia had offered me a position within her Royal Guard. At first, I wasn’t quite sure if I should take the offer, but then Celestia explained that the likelihood of me returning to my home was slim if not impossible. At that point I was more than convinced to join her guard.
That was about five years ago and a lot has changed. Firstly, as a result of coming to Equestria, my dick changed and grew to the size of an average stallion. This was spotted after I went to their doctors and was given a full physical exam. After explaining to them that this was not the size of an average human male, they made some enchanted underwear for me that would be comfortable for me to wear. Secondly, I joined the guard and became good friends with Princess Celestia. Finally, I have been working steadily through the rank and reached the rank of Sergeant. Not everypony in the guard was happy to see some unknown creature be a member of the guard, but after I saved many of them during the dreaded Heat Season, I gain many of their respect and admiration. Speaking of the Heat, it was getting close to that time of year. After my first season, I quickly gathered all of the surviving males of the guard we began to work out a plan. This is but one reason why I got the rank of Sergeant.
It was about sunset and I was currently in my room working on polishing my armor and making sure my weapons were ready for anything. I heard a knock on the door and opened it. Standing there were two of my squadmate, Iron Spear and Swift Strike. Iron was an Earth Pony guard. He has grey fur, black mane and tail, and brown eyes. Swift was a Pegasus Pony guard. He has sky blue fur and wings, dark blue mane and tail, and green eyes.
“Hey Sergeant, Spear, myself and the rest of the squad are planning on heading down to a nightclub tonight? This might be our last time going there before Heat Season hits,” Swift asked.
“As much as I would like to take a break right now. I still need to review the plans we have come up with for all of us to survive Heat Season in one piece,” I responded.
“That’s the Sergeant for you. Always working an looking out for his fellow guard. Come on, let him work,” Iron said.
“I guess you are right. After all, if it wasn’t for him, I might have had several broken bones during the last Season,” Swift said a little disappointed. Before they left another pony walked into my room.
He was dressed in his white/gold armor and armed with a spear. Thanks to the armors enchantments his fur color was a pure white with his piercing blue eyes. This was Captain Stalwart Fortress, and my boss. I stood up in attention when he entered my room.
“Captain Fortress, is there something you need?” I asked.
“From me, no, but from the Princess,” he said in his rough voice.
“The Princess, sir?” I asked.
“Princess Celestia has requested your press immediately in her room,” he said.
“Any reason why?” I asked.
“No. I didn’t ask and does it matter?” I replied.
“No Sir, I will head over to the Princess at once,” I said saluting him as he nodded and left.
Iron and Swift looked at each other before Iron asked, “So, what does the Princess want from you?”
“No idea,” I said as I began to think of what exactly what she would need from me.
“Hey, maybe she’s calling you over to deal with her heat?” Swift said.
“I doubt it. It’s not the season and plus I’m sure she has her own means of deal with it,” I said.
“Yeah, but it can hit early. A few years ago, my sister got hit early and hit hard by her Heat. By the time it was over, three stallions were in the hospital with a broken pelvis, dislocated hips, or both. It was fortunate that they were all rushed to the hospital otherwise they might have died. She still has to us a colder or a spell to deal with her Heat because of what happened,” Iron said.
“Ha Ha, death by Snu Snu! If there was a death out there that I would like to have, that would be one of them,” Swift said with a cocky grin. I just shook my head at Swifts explanation.
“Anyway, we will see you tomorrow, Sergeant,” Iron said.
“Good luck with the Princess,” Swift said.
As they closed the door, I began to put my armor on to go to the Princess room. This gave me time to think. When I first got here, the idea of me having sex with a mare was really out of the question, but as time moved on, I slowly warmed up to the idea of it. Much of it depended on the mares themselves. There were some mares in guard, but I didn’t really want to have a relationship of that nature with a fellow guard, and the noble mares that live here in Canterlot where not exactly friendly to me. Eventually, my thought lingered on the Princess herself. I always did think of her a pretty. First as a pony, but now as a mare. I can honestly say, that I was a friend of hers. Over the five years of my being here in Equestria we have shared much. Whenever she had a really stressful day of running the court, I would listen to her vent about all of the silly little thing that they have to complain about and I would comment when it was appropriate. However, with three years in working for her, I started to shift from simply seeing her as a friend to wanting something more.
‘Is it wrong of me for wanting something more than just being a friend with her?’ I thought as I put my helmet on and grabbing my sword. I closed the door to my room and head to Celestia’s room.
I quickly got to her room and knocked on her door.
“Who is it?” I heard her muffled voice.
“It’s Sergeant Arthur, Princess. May I come in?” I asked.
“Yes, please do and close the door behind you,” I heard and followed her instructions. I saw her sitting at her table in her room with her crown and regalia removed. On the table, I saw the last remains of what was a three-layer cake with a half glass of wine.
‘Great, she has been stress eating again. Something really must be stressing her out today,’ I thought to myself.
“You summoned me, Princess. Is there something wrong? You seem stressed out.” I asked.
“I guess everypony is stressed out about this time of year, including me,” she said.
“But the Heat is not what stressing you out right now?” I asked.
“No, it’s just some of the nobles and them having some ridiculous request.” she said.
“Blueblood?” I stated flatly.
“Yes! Do you know what he just requested? He wanted me to approve a plan to destroy parts of the poorer parts of Canterlot for resort just for him! Of course, I said no, but these requests are becoming more a more ridiculous,” she vented.
“Maybe a cap on what he can spend would be a good idea?” I suggested.
“That would do for most nobles, but Blueblood is my nephew and he lives in the castle. I would never hear the end of it. Plus, he has some powerful allies in court. Allies, if angered can make my world a nightmare in running the Equestria,” she said.
“Perhaps a change in subject would be a good idea. How’s your new student of yours?” I asked.
“Twilight Sparkle? She has a lot of promise. Her magic is on a completely different scale from other Unicorns. Even adult Unicorns can’t hold a candle to what she is capable,” she said with a smile.
“But?” I asked.
“But she has a lot to learn. She can’t control that amount of magic right now. Especially, when she is startled. When I first meet her, she got so startled that she accidentally turned her parents into plants and even hatched a dragon egg,” she said.
“Goodness. I hope her parents are, okay?” I asked.
“They are. I calmed her down and dispelled all of the magic she had casted. She’s managed to not have an episode like that, but I am keeping an eye on her. I just wish that she would make some friends,” she said.
“Why’s that, Princess?” I asked.
“When I said she has potential, I don’t just mean being a powerful Unicorn. She has the potential to be one of them,” she said.
“One of who?” I asked.
She turned her head to the Moon. More specifically, the image of the Mare on the Moon, “one of a group that will eventually save my sister.”
“Your sister?” I asked as she nodded, “I didn’t know you have a sister.”
“I would be surprised if you did know. I would be surprised if anypony would know, but I had to banish her to the Moon almost a thousand years ago,” she said as she got up from the table and open the door to the balcony.
“What happened? Why did you need to banish her?” I asked.
“Some harmful words, my pride getting in the way, and her becoming a twisted version of who she is,” she said.
As she walked onto the balcony, the natural magic of Equestria took over for her. There is one form of magic that effects all creature in this world, not even to princess could resist it. It causes those affected by it to sing a song. As she sung her song, I could almost see the events that happened back then. An argument between two sisters, the anger and frustration of the younger, turning into a twisted version of herself, the fight that followed, and the ultimate result that left the other grieving because of her actions. I just watched and listened to Celestia’s song until she was finished and seeing some tears rolling down her face.
“Now you know the truth. You must really think I’m horrible for not being able to save my sister and caused her to become Nightmare Moon,” she said.
I didn’t answer her immediately. Instead, I walked next to her and gave her a hug, “That’s not what I think or see at all right now.”
“Then what is it that you see?” she asked.
“I see someone who had to make a difficult decision, and had to live with those decisions. That includes the regret that comes with it,” I said somberly.
We stopped hugging after that. Celestia had a concerned look on her face, “It sounds like you are speaking from experience,” she said.
“I am,” I said.
“What happened?” she asked.
“I was born to a powerful Duke in my country of England. In terms of hierarchy, a Duke is just outside of the Royal Family. I was the second son born, so I wasn’t really expected too much of an inheritance, because only first-born son really going inheritance from the family, but my father planned to make me a knight. When I was seven years old, I became a page of a knight who was a good friend of my father, Sir Roland. A page is the first step a boy takes into becoming a knight. For the next seven years I learned what it means and how to be a knight under him. After I turn fourteen, I became his squire and I continued to learn. How to fight with a sword in armor, how to maintain my equipment, and how I should serve our king. A good thing I learned all of this, because the unthinkable happened,” I explained.
“What happened?” she asked.
“The most holy of Christian Kingdoms, the Kingdom of Jerusalem, fell to the Muslim forces lead by their great leader Saladin the Great. After learning about this Pope Gregory VIII, the religious leader of the Church at the time, called forth a Crusade to liberate the Jerusalem. At the age of seventeen, I left with Sir Roland to join our King, Richard the Lionheart, and sail to the Holy Lands where Jerusalem was. We landed in 1189 during a great battle of the city of Acre. It was a bloody battle, but we won and began to start taking territory in the effort to establish a base heading to Jerusalem. For more than three years we fought, and we actually got close to Jerusalem. However, we were never able to take it. Richard was able to get a treaty signed between him and Saladin. We would hold some territory, but Saladin would hold Jerusalem but allow unarmed pilgrims to enter the city,” I said.
“There’s more to that story, something personal to you?” she asked.
“During the final battle of the Crusade, Sir Roland, a man that I considered to be a second father to me, was slain in combat. I was so close to him on the battlefield when it happened, and when it did a fury took control of me, and I slaughtered the men responsible for his death. Had I just saw him in such poor condition I would have fought to get to him and helped him, and maybe I would have saved him,” I said.
“Or you could have gotten yourself killed,” she stated.
I sighed, “Maybe, but it doesn’t change the fact that I lose someone important to me. All my life I wanted to be a knight. Fighting alongside my King in battle. He did make me a knight before I left for my home in England, but it felt hollow like I didn’t deserve it. I was honestly lost, and I wasn’t sure what to do. It was when I got home, that I discovered that my home was being terrorized by a large pack of wolves. They had killed several livestock, but also some people were attacked by them. So, I joined the hunting party going after them. I thought that maybe I could finally feel like I deserve my new title, or die with honor protecting my home. That was when I found a cave which led me here to your world,” I said with a smile.
“Why are you happy being taken away from you home?” she asked.
I smiled and placed my hand on the back of her neck, “Because of you, Princess. When I got here, I didn’t value my own life. I thought of it disposable. That was when I meet you. You taught me that my life has value, more than just simply serving as a knight to their leader,” I said.
“You’re welcome, my knight,” she said with a smile.
“But there is also something else that pasted my mind. Before I went on the hunt, I went to the church and confessed to what I did, asked for forgiveness, and ask to what I should do. They did forgive me and told me that God has a plan for all of us. Maybe I was meant to survive the Crusade, to find that cave in the middle of the woods, for you to come into my life, and for me to fall in love with you,” I said.
I can’t really explain what happened next, but with her smiling at me, a slight blush on her checks and looking into her eyes I just leaned in and gave her a kiss. She must have liked it because she started to kiss me back. We stopped kissing and I followed her back into her room. As we did, I couldn’t help but notice that she was flagging her tail at me. Now, if this was back when I first arrived in Equestria I would be not interested at all in mares, but after living here for five years and with it being Celestia I am very interested. Just as that moment, her bedroom door opened up. A white unicorn mare entered the room. This was Raven, Princess Celestia’s personal secretary, “Alright, Princess yourrrrrrrrrrrrrr-?” she started to speak before she saw us in the bed, dropping the clipboard in her magic, and we look to her. There was a long awkward silence between us before she spoke up again, “I’ll just comeback later.” She spoke before quickly leaving the room closing the door behind her.
After that awkward moment, we both agreed to get ready for the day as I put on my clothes, “Once I’m done with Day court, join me for dinner,” she said.
“Of course, Tia,” I said as I smiled and exit her room.
-Eleven Months Later-
It incredible how a single event can change the course of history. The night between me and Tia was more productive than either of us thought. Needless to say, but that noble was stripped of his titles, landholdings, and his house was soon dissolved and removed from Canterlot.
After finding out she was carrying my child, I made a faithful decision. During a nighttime walk through the park, after a nice dinner, I proposed to her, which she said yes. The wedding happened during Hearth’s Warming and as a compromise to the nobles who were not invited to the wedding, we created the Hearth’s Warming ball so the others can visit and congratulate us. Of course, we involved Twilight with the ceremony by making her the ringbearer.
Today is actually the Summer Sun Celebration, but Celestia won’t be there due to her going into labor around midnight. I was now early morning and I was in the waiting room of the hospital praying to God to give Celestia strength. Not entirely sure if he could hear me, but it couldn’t hurt to ask for help.
“Hey Arthur, you, okay?” a familiar voice asked me. I turned and it was Iron and Swift.
“Tired, but I’m fine for now. Just nervous about Celestia,” I said.
“That is par for the course for first time fathers. She’s going to be okay, Arthur,” Iron said.
“Yeah, those doctors and nurses have the two most important ponies as their patients,” Swift said.
“Yeah, but this is the first pony-human hybrid to ever be born. I’m just worried that something is wrong with the child,” I said.
“Well, you don’t need to worry anymore, your Highness,” I heard a doctor said. We all turned to see the doctor coming out of the door, “Would you like to see your daughter, Sir Arthur?”
“Do you even need to ask,” I said as I stood up and followed the doctor to where Celestia was. As I entered her room, I saw her laying on her side with a little white pony suckling from her teat.
“Arthur, please come over here and say hello to our daughter,” she said with a tired smile.
I pulled a chair up next to her bed and just watched our daughter feed from her teat. I finally got a better look at our daughter. Her coat was white like her mother, but she had a blonde mane and tail, which was my hair color. The front part of her was more human-like, while the bottom part was more pony-like, but she had a small horn on her head and wings on her back. She was an Alicorn, “So, did you think of a name?” I asked.
“Summer. Her name is Summer Dawn,” she said
“Princess Summer Dawn. I love it. Welcome to Equestria Summer,” I said with smile.
