God of War: Daughter of War
Interlude: Ragnarok's Aftermath
Previous ChapterNext ChapterAfter dealing with Odin, leaving behind a mindless nameless dragon in his place, Flurry and the others spent some time making sure the people of Asgard knew what was going on, where it was easy to see how crushed a number of them were, that their All-Father would just surrender without a fight. It was a reminder that they only knew the facade that Odin had shown them, instead of the truth he wanted to hide from them, but Thor and his family, plus Tyr and Mimir, the latter of whom most of the Asgardians didn't trust since he had been allied with Odin, set the matter straight. Of course this also meant that Tyr had to convince the people that Mimir was on their side, which was actually fairly easy to do since he was the one talking and he told them that the head had been trying to stop Odin before he had been imprisoned, but from what Flurry could see it looked like they were working well as a group. At the same time she knew that Thor was thinking about his daughter, how he could have lost Thrud to Odin's madness, and it was possible that he considering how to move forward after venting his rage on the fragments of his father's captured soul.
She had also convinced him to stand down, that Thor should allow the nameless dragon to live his life and not be killed in the seconds after being created, and while he didn't seem to approve it did look like he was willing to listen to reason, and that was also due to Thrud telling him that her plan was a good one.
In addition to that she, Anubis, and the Valkyries cut off Valhalla from Asgard, which would have given Odin an endless army had they gone to war with him, which returned the power of that place to Freya and her Valkyries, or Shield Maidens as they preferred to be called now. Flurry had to wonder if that was the magic of Vanaheim speaking through them, but she was pleased to see that their new bodies were corporeal and untainted, in fact they wouldn't have to worry about returning to the forms Odin had cursed them with. This also came with the fact that Sigrun and the others had actual wings, instead of the metallic ones they had been given in their previous forms, which actually made Thrud more jealous of them and made her want to be part of their group even more than before. Flurry was sure that the Shield Maidens would approve of Thrud joining, she was a skilled warrior and had proven herself before discovering her grandfather's plot to kill her, she just needed some time to rest and recover from everything that had happened so far.
"So... what do we do with the mask and the rift it's connected to?" Atreus asked, because now that Odin was gone that left all of his stuff here, out in the open, causing him to wonder what in the world they were going to do with all of this information and knowledge that had been stolen from the various realms.
"Most of it is just copies of what he stole from the people of the Nine Realms, save for Groa's library." Tyr remarked, where he approached some of the tomes that were around the chamber and pulled one out, which he determined was the real deal for this item, before he glanced at Flurry for a moment, focusing on her bag and the power it had, "Do you think you can store the library inside your bag?"
"Shouldn't be too hard, honestly." Flurry replied, where she extended her magic for a moment and the pair found that the bookshelves and their contents started to disappear before their eyes, before she checked out the treasures Odin had either collected or stolen and shrugged as she took them as well, "You know, I need to head into the bag at some point and simply organize everything... we've collected a lot of stuff over the years, and during this adventure as well, and I really should clean it up. Of course we have a dragon to deal with, the realms to bring back into balance, and everything else... now you know why we try to avoid war, Atreus, since there's a lot of hassle involved with each a thing, even when you win."
"You know, that reminds me: did you ever decide on a name for your weapon?" Tyr asked, because Flurry carried her katana all the time now, which was a good sign since he felt it was a good addition to her ever expanding arsenal, though at the same time he noted that she had returned her scythe to the pair of sickles she normally uses.
"Yeah, I think so: Seimei no Maho." Flurry said, as she had no idea what it meant, she didn't have Atreus' skill with languages, but she felt that the name was what she should call the weapon, which she suspected was part of the magic Tyr likely put into the weapon's components before the Lady weaved them into the katana.
"Hm, 'Magic of Life'. Fitting." Tyr remarked, as it seemed like a name that embodied the two other aspects of Flurry, which were her desire to protect life and the potent magical power that has been part of her body since the day she was born, and it made him realize that it might be time for her to head back home at long last, not Greece or their homestead, but back to her true home, "Once things have settled down, and we have some free time, I think it would be wise to travel to your home world and meet your people, as I'm sure your family is missing you."
Flurry nodded as she thought about that, the world of ponies that Tyr said was her home, before something brought her to Greece, in time to join her father on the quest of his life, though it only made her wonder what sort of life she had left behind before her journey. She had to admit that she really didn't remember much from her old life, either because there was still magic preventing her from remembering that part of her life or because she could have been a baby and just had no memories to speak of, but determined that it didn't matter in the end. Part of her suspected that when she returned to her home world whatever magic was preventing her from remembering would fade away, or maybe there was a spell that they needed to find before trying to return to her world, but in the end she decided not to worry about it. She trusted Tyr, just as he trusted her, and if he felt that waiting before worrying about her home world was the best thing to do than she trusted that this was the best move, hence why she focused on the path that was ahead of them and not on what might be years away.
Such a thing made her think about the rift for a moment as she and the others stared at it, though in the end she weaved her magic into the chamber that was around them, sealing it off from the outside world, and when they returned to Odin's office area she made sure to close the door before adding it to the seal, leaving the wall smooth, as if the door never existed in the first place.
"Good, now the rift will be forgotten." Tyr remarked, which was a good thing in his eyes, as he wasn't sure what caused the creation of it in the first place, even though many who knew about the past suspected that Odin's murder of Ymir had to be the cause, but if it really was a source of infinite knowledge it was best that it was sealed away.
"So, I have another question: what do we call the dragon?" Atreus asked, where they headed outside the Great Lodge and found that the beast in question was outside it, as the former All-Father was following Flurry, like it thought she was his master or something, or maybe it was drawn to her because her magic had changed him.
"I was thinking Frodleikr, for lore, knowledge, and magic." Flurry replied, because Odin was known for his lust for knowledge and sometimes his magic, plus there were all sorts of stories about him in the various realms, so she felt that it fit, though at the same time she was open to suggestions, since someone else could have another name for him.
The dragon seemed to tilt his head for a moment, before looking at the area that was around them, as if seeing Asgard for the first time, which was basically the truth since all of Odin's memories were buried so deep that Flurry had made sure they would never resurface. While she thought about that some of the Asgardians looked at their transformed All-Father and did something humorous in her eyes, they actually tossed some meat at the dragon and he snapped the food out of the air, like he was a pet or something, which she knew would have sent Odin over the edge if he saw himself like this. Freya and the rest of the gods that were in this part of Asgard observed this for a time, not sure what to make of the situation that Flurry had created, though she was fine with this as she observed them tend to the dragon, before snapping her fingers. The beast turned and looked at her for a moment as she waved her hand, causing the beast to move his wings before taking off, though while he flew off into the mountains surrounding Asgard she noticed he was flying badly, again due to having no knowledge of how to use his new body.
While that happened she and the others found that the wall surrounding Asgard collapsed, which was due to Gaia and the Titans removing the stones before placing them around the lake, since the wall wasn't needed anymore, but they did leave part of it up to keep everyone safe from the hazards of the realm.
"It will take some time for the people to get used to losing their All-Father, but with Thor's family helping them they should be able to move forward in no time." Kratos commented, though he knew that many of them had to be feeling down after their leader denied them the chance to fight in Ragnarok, especially since the Asgardians were fighters, though he had a feeling that spending some time with the people of the Land Between Realms might be just what they needed.
"No... I'm a warrior, not a leader. If anyone should lead them, it should be Sif." Thor remarked, as he knew he didn't have what it took to take control of an entire realm, not after everything he had been through, which was why he felt that his wife was the best choice, given her diplomat skills had done well in the past.
"And if we're being honest there should be no 'All-Father' position anymore... rather I propose that we should form a council, with representatives from each realm and a number of influential gods." Sif stated, where Flurry got the feeling that this was part of what she and Freya had talked about while everyone was gathering for the start of her plan, something to unite the realms into a single force, instead of being divided like usual, before the goddess glanced at Freya for a moment, "Honestly, it was Freya's idea, and I fully agree with the idea. The power has been in the hands of one god for too long... and now that that god has fallen we should share the responsibilities of the realms amongst ourselves, putting the realms first and setting aside our vast differences."
"See, there's my Sif. Already coming up with new ideas or talking with others to figure out the best path forward." Thor said, though at the same time he remained thoughtful about something, like there was more going on in his head than some of the others realized, though Kratos knew he likely wanted a chance to fight him, no doubt one on one, before he set down his hammer and took a different path, which he could do now that Odin was gone, "Head, maybe you can help me talk to that big snake... I've got some things to say to him, things he should be interested in, and I might be able to convince him to set his own hatred for me aside."
"Or open yourself up so he can kill you." Mimir commented, as this was a surprise that he wasn't expecting, even after the changes that Flurry had brought to the Nine Realms, though he suspected that Odin's plot to kill Thrud, his revenge against his father's soul fragments, and everything else that had happened recently had caused a shift in the god's mind, which had to be Flurry's influence, and he found that Thor even nodded, acknowledging the possibility, causing him to sigh, "But, if you want to speak to Jormungandr, I can help you translate what he's saying and let him know what you are saying."
Thor nodded his head, showing Mimir that he was willing to listen to the head and not talk back, though Flurry was pleased by this new turn of events, because it meant people were still changing, even with a little influence from her, and it made her eager to see how Thor and the others embraced their shining new futures.
"Kratos, there's something you and your family should see... but it can wait for later." Angrboda added, speaking up for the first time since they learned what sort of plan Flurry had in mind, and now she was seeing why Flurry was so regarded as one could had the power to change fate, why the Equestrians were so regarded in the manner that Tyr and the others had come to see them in, "Also, it seems that even the Nine Realms have agreed with Flurry... Fimbulwinter is over, as the snow in Midgard has stopped falling and it looks like all of the ice is melting. It was really that simple... now I really understand why my grandmother was laughing at Groa when I told her about your existence, Flurry."
Flurry nodded her head for a moment as she recalled how her decisions had altered the fate of the Nine Realms, as Odin and the others had thought that Baldur's death would case Fimbulwinter to happen but the reality was that taking away his immortality did the same thing. Breaking Ragnarok was the same way, all she had to do was figure out how to accomplish the same thing without actually destroying Asgard, and it all came to the fact that Odin's death was at the center of each and every prophecy, the only constant she could see. With that in mind it had been rather simple to find a way to bring about his 'death', without blasting the whole of Asgard apart, and utilizing Fafnir's mirror, plus her own training and understanding how Brok's soul had been fractured, had caused her to come up with this plan to segment the All-Father's soul and turn his body into something else. She had been hoping that the Nine Realms would understand what she was doing, like what she had done when she removed Baldur's immortality, and had worried that her gamble might fail, but she was pleased to see that even the Nine Realms understood her intentions and accepted them.
Such a thing made her turn towards the sun for a moment as it dawned over Asgard, as there was a lot of work that still had to be done and she knew they would be busy for quite some time, though Flurry was looking forward to seeing what the future had in store for her, her family, their friends, and the rest of the Nine Realms.
