God of War: Daughter of War
Interlude: Chats and Plans
Previous ChapterNext ChapterAtreus found that he and the others were able to rest after the downfall of Odin and the destruction of the wall that the All-Father had built to keep Giants out of Asgard, and since his father and Freya were part of the council that would watch over the Nine Realms, Sif insisted, they needed quick access to everything. Such a thing meant that they were going to use the house in the Realm Between Realms more often than he thought they would, and Sindri already told him that he and Brok would make a new area for the family, plus their friends since the main house was incredibly crowded. With that in mind he stepped out of his room, which he had offered to share with Angrboda when she decided to leave her home in Jotunheim, and found that many of the enlarged group were gathered in the house, some even outside since there wasn't enough room inside it for all of them. It was actually quite interesting to see how so many gods, goddesses, and everyone else could just bond with each other and form a group like this, which he suspected was due to his sister's hard work before she, their father, and their sister departed from Greece.
Such a thing caused him to think about something as he stepped out into the living area, his sister, Flurry to be exact, was nowhere to be seen and based on what he was seeing it sure looked like one of the Greek gods, Aphrodite, was missing at the moment, something that made him wonder what was going on.
"Um, where's Flurry?" Atreus asked, though he suspected that his sister was sleeping, which was understandable after the last couple of days they had been through, especially after dealing with the madness of Ragnarok and having to stop Odin in such a unique way.
"She and Aphrodite have retired to her room." Kratos replied, referring to the separate structure that the dwarves had built for his daughter, to give her some privacy since Atreus had been annoying her at the start of this adventure, though he did take a drink from his mug for a moment.
"I imagine they've been enjoying each others embrace, since it's been over a thousand years for them." Artemis remarked, because she and the other Greek gods knew that the pair had been quite the item back when Kratos' family was among their number, on the continent that Tyr had brought them to, back when they had no idea who the bird belonged to, before she chuckled as she noticed the confused look on Atreus' face.
"I'm sorry, what?" Atreus inquired, as he had a feeling that he knew what the goddess was talking about, though he found it hard to actually consider his older sister having such relations, since she was usually so focused on everything else and had little time for herself, or at least that seemed to be the case based on what he remembered.
"They've been fucking each others brains out since you got back last night." Brok stated, though he had a smile on his face, because he had always thought that Flurry deserved to have some fun, and not be so uptight and focused like she was, and what the two goddesses were up to, even if he didn't see it, brought a smile to his face.
Athena sighed for a moment as she confirmed that Brok was correct, the two goddesses were having sex, and she even told him about how the Greek gods had a habit of changing their forms to look like mortals and integrate with them, something Zeus was quite known for since he had almost a pantheon of children, most of which were dead. Kratos, for example, was one of the few gods who didn't use their shapeshifting power, though he had to correct her and told her that he tried it only once in the past, he just wanted to see what he had looked like before he became the 'Ghost of Sparta', something that told Atreus it was best to not ask about it. Athena continued by pointing out that Aphrodite only gave herself a male's cock, for the times where she wanted to have sex with her female worshipers, and Flurry, as Atreus knew, only used her power to hide her horn and wings, but after learning about sex from the Goddess of Love she had taken to using it to give herself her own cock. She, Artemis, and Apollo were of the opinion that the pair would soon get married and one of them was likely going to be pregnant, likely Aphrodite based on her past, though this made Atreus blush as he thought about his sister in a new light, even though he was unsure of a number of things now.
In the end Atreus decided that it would be best if he just let his sister do her thing and not bother her, especially given what he had seen in the past, and after twenty minutes they discovered that the pair, definitely looking refreshed, joined them for breakfast, where it was easy for everyone to smile and welcome them back.
Eventually Thor asked for the family and some of the others to come with him, where they traveled through the Door and the branches of Yggdrasil for a time, only to come out on the edge of the Lake of Nine, because this was where he wanted to come and they knew what he was going to do. With the power of the gods and goddesses around him they were able to do away with all of the ice and snow that was around the horn that was used to call the World Serpent to this area, while he laid his eyes on the massive serpent that happened to be sleeping under the melting snow. This was an important thing for him, because he wanted to see if it was possible to get the serpent to forgive him, and even if that fact proved to impossible he had his own method to make Jormungandr believe him, which he silently admitted might not work anyway. The others also knew he was taking a risk with this, since the World Serpent hated his guts and might attack him before they even had the chance to explain things to him, before he sighed as he realized that this might be the stupidest thing he's ever done.
"Father... you don't have to do this." Thrud said, because they knew that the World Serpent despised her father, especially since he had slain all sorts of Giants and Jormungandr was one of them, so he likely held a grudge for everything that had happened in the past.
"No... no, I have to do this. Summon him." Thor replied, as he knew that if he didn't do it now, and face the music, there was a chance that he'd never come speak to the serpent, so this was likely the best and only chance he had to do such a thing, to which the others glanced at each other before deciding to honor his request.
Kratos raised Mimir to the horn and the severed head blew into it, where they heard the sound of the horn for a time and found that it raised the serpent from his slumber, though as they expected Jormungandr's eyes narrowed in anger once he noticed Thor standing among them. It was only due to Mimir speaking that they were able to stop him, as he spoke in the language of the Giants and the World Serpent seemed to glare at Thor like he was boring holes into his very soul, which the god allowed him to do since fighting him wasn't why he came here. Of course the serpent also spoke after Mimir stated why they were here, but as he spoke they found that his eyes were on his ancient enemy, his hated rival, and it was possible he would refuse to listen to what was said, which was why Thor had his own desperation plan in mind. Everyone else simply stood there, though they had moved down to the actual bridge after Kratos had Mimir blow into the horn, since there was more room on the bridge for everyone to stand on, though they made no move to appear aggressive, rather they wanted the serpent to know they were observers in this event.
"Thor... I'm sure you might have guessed at what he said, but he wants to know why you, and you specifically, are here." Mimir stated, which was a surprise to none of them, the serpent hated Thor and that was reflected in how he stared at the god and how he seemed to speak, since some of his movements seemed to suggest such a thing, and Thor realized that his survival might be due to Flurry and Kratos' presences.
"Tell him that I'm here to deliver some news: Odin, the ancient enemy of his people, has fallen and that I'm retiring." Thor replied, though his second statement caught a number of them by surprise, and even Mimir seemed caught off guard by it, while at the same time the serpent remained still, no doubt realizing that something was up by their reactions, even though it didn't understand their language, "And by that I mean I'm stepping down from being a warrior... I will still be the God of Thunder, but it's time for me to hang up my hammer. I'll probably fully retire after I've had a chance to fight the gods that beat up Zeus."
"Following in Kratos' footsteps, in a sense?" Mimir commented, as that seemed to be the case, though Thor didn't say a word to that, he wasn't expecting a reply since the usually drunken god was sober and focused on his chosen task, to which he just glanced up at Kratos and made sure he was turned towards the World Serpent.
In the next few moments Flurry and the others watched as Mimir translated the message so Jormungandr understood why they were here, in fact she could sense that a weight had been lifted from the serpent once it learned of Odin's demise, and it wasn't long before he had something else to say on the matter.
"He says that while it is good to hear that Odin has finally met his end, and that prophecy has been altered to save Asgard... he doesn't believe that you'd lay down your hammer." Mimir stated, which he wasn't surprised by in the slightest, since the World Serpent was focused on his dislike of Thor and was likely letting that rule his statement, while everyone else simply stood there and observed the two talking.
"I figured as much, which is why I have my own plan in mind." Thor said, where he raised his hand for a moment and simply wrapped his hand around the handle of his weapon, though in the next moment he set Mjolnir down in front of him before he took a step back, "As I said, I will step back from being the warrior that is feared by everyone in the Nine Realms, and to do that I would like to pass on Mjolnir. Modi Thorson, the time has come for me to pass my weapon onto you."
Modi stood there for a moment as he approached his father, staring at the weapon that he and Magni had been fighting to obtain, an enticing offer that reminded him of the past, before he sighed as he took a step back while shaking his head, as he knew what he had to do.
"No, I am not worthy of such a weapon... I'm no warrior, and even when I was fighting I was a coward. I am unworthy to even carry Mjolnir." Modi stated, because while a part of him still wanted the weapon, since it had been a large part of his life, but the other part of him won out as he backed away from it, especially since he knew there was someone else who deserved it more right now, "I would dishonor Magni's memory if I were to obtain the weapon through the virtue of being the last one standing, since you originally promised it to one of us. However, I do feel that Thrud would make more sense for Mjolnir, especially since she's planning on joining the Shield Maidens to help them in their work... what better path could there be for a weapon like Mjolnir?"
Flurry knew what the god was talking about, he knew part of the story behind the Blade of Olympus, a blade of terror and fear that had been turned into a weapon of hope, so he was thinking that giving it to his sister was the best course given the path she wanted to walk. Thrud, on the other hand, seemed surprised by her brother's decision to stand down and let her take the weapon, but with a nod from her father, and being watched by the World Serpent, she approached the hammer and rested a hand on it's handle, finding that she could carry it with ease. Flurry smiled as they witnessed this, because now the weapon of destruction was in the hands of someone who wanted to do good, even though she likely thought that she might not be fully worthy either, and she suspected that her and Modi's humility might be why Thor thought they were the ones the hammer should go to. In the end she glanced up at the World Serpent, who seemed to be taking in the scene that was playing out before his eyes, before he spoke, causing everyone to listen to what he had to say, even though Mimir would translate it for them.
The interesting part was that the World Serpent shifted his body after speaking, meaning he might be done talking for the time being, something that caused Cole to turn Mimir so they could understand what had happened, and if there was more to do to get him to accept Thor's words.
"Well, he said he requires time to think about this... he's not sure he can trust Thor, not after all the lives he took, but the act of handing Mjolnir over is a step in the right direction." Mimir said, which was a good thing in their eyes, since it meant that the god's actions had the desired effect, the World Serpent didn't want to crush him right now, though it was clear that he needed time to consider everything.
"Good. Then we shall give him time... in the meantime, maybe we can help the family out, or start planning on how to get to Equestria?" Tyr replied, as there were many things for them to do and he knew that part of it was him helping the family out, it had been why he invited them to the Nine Realms in the first place, but he also knew that the desire to return home was a big one, especially for someone like Flurry.
Flurry nodded her head, because either option was fine with her and she found herself looking forward to whatever the near future had in store for her and the others, since there was no telling what might happen now that Ragnarok was over and peace had been restored to the Nine Realms, but she knew they would be ready for whatever happened next.
