Chapter the Second: Waking Nightmare

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

When Luna pulled herself out of bed, she was exhausted. She needed a shower, but her clock said it was time for breakfast, first. She rolled onto her hooves and hoisted herself up, her hooves clacking against the floor loudly as she made her way to the door.

He was just a foal. How was he already this powerful in the art of dreamwalking, that he could pin her down with just a thought? And more importantly, why was he having such lurid dreams in the first place? How had he learned any of this stuff, and from whom?

She shook the thoughts from her head as she pushed the door open and stepped out into the hallway. She was running on an empty stomach, and needed something to pick herself up, especially on a morning such as this. Some coffee, at least.

As she walked into the dining hall, she was greeted by two and a half smiling faces. The first was Celestia, chowing down on a tall stack of pancakes. The second was a different tall stack of pancakes, sitting in front of her chair, absolutely doused in peach jam and corn syrup, with whipped cream as the eyes and mouth, and a cherry for the nose. The final half-face had already lost its other half down Celestia's monstrous gullet.

"Saved you some pancakes, Woona!" called Celestia through a mouthful of refined sugars.

Not even acknowledging Celestia's greeting, Luna turned and walked right to the espresso machine, brewing a triple-shot espresso with no accoutrements.

"Sleep well?" asked Celestia.

"No."

"Why not? What happened? Did you have another nightmare?"

Luna dropped a single ice cube into her drink to cool it, then sat down in front of the pancakes. "I don't want to talk about it."

Celestia grabbed the plate in her magic and gave it a funny voice as she waved it in front of Luna. "Oh, Luna, you know you can tell Mr. Pancakes anything. He won't judge you!"

Luna pushed the plate away. "Go away, Mr. Pancakes..."

"But Luna, you know Mr. Pancakes is your friend!"

"Not right now."

"C'mon, please?! Please, Luna!"

As Mr. Pancakes edged closer, he spilled a mouthful of Luna's coffee. She immediately grabbed a butter knife and drove it between Mr. Pancakes's eyes.

"Now that was uncalled for, Luna," scoffed Celestia, putting Mr. Pancakes back on the table and dressing his knife wound with raspberry jam. "He's only trying to help."

"He can help by letting me drink my coffee."

"He wouldn't bug you if you just ate him."

This triggered a memory in Luna's head, calling back several nights to when she'd used her mouth on the colt that was bugging her, and still he was pestering her. "That doesn't work."

"Sure it does," said Celestia, holding up her own plate. "His brother's nice and quiet."

Unimpressed, Luna cast her own spell on her sister's pancakes, making them scream profanities at her for eating them. "We're still alive, you gluttonous bitch!"

Celestia put her hooves up. "Fine, fine, truce."

With a nod, Luna called off her spell and took a sip of her drink. It was good. She was really regretting that it had spilled.

"So why don't you tell me what's bothering you, and we can drop the façade?"

Luna took a deep breath and looked around. Seeing that they were alone, she clicked the lock on the door and sound-proofed the room. Celestia immediately dropped her cheer, as this was serious now.

"I believe I've been sexually assaulted."

Celestia's jaw dropped. "Do you think it's one of the guards?"

"No, I... What?"

"Sneaking into your room at night to grope you through your blankets, rubbing their dicks against your lips, soaking your hoof in warm water so that you think it's just pee and not excitement?"

Luna reached up and rubbed her temples. "Tia, I'm being serious."

"So am I! the thought of the guards all having their way with you has me worried!"

Luna facehoofed. "Yeah, me too, now..."

"Then it's settled. We'll start locking your door at night. Problem solved. Now, will you eat your pancakes?"

Luna sighed. "Forget it. If you're not going to listen, what's the point? I'm out of here..."

As Luna unlocked the door, Celestia locked it again. "Sit down... I'm sorry. I was trying to lighten the mood. You're so dour all the time, and I just want you to smile every so often."

Taking a deep breath, Luna sat down. She didn't really want to leave her coffee, anyway.

"For the past two weeks, every time I dreamwalk at night, I'm pulled into a new scenario, or sometimes even the same one a few times. Last night, I was the daughter of a baron, kidnapped by a pirate and put in a cage until my saviour came to rescue me."

Celestia shrugged. "And?"

"He dispatched the whole band of pirates on his own, cut me out of the cage, and brought me back to his ship. We had sex on his bed."

"Sounds romantic."

"I didn't consent to it, Tia!"

"So? Tell him no. Change the dream. Walk out if he's bothering you that much."

"I can't!" shouted Luna. "That's the problem! There's something about his dreams, his desires... They're hugely powerful. I can't combat them."

Celestia was quiet for a moment. "Are you sure he's doing it on purpose?"

"Positive. It always starts at midnight, and is very consistent of late."

Celestia closed her eyes and nodded. "I'll have him arrested and his house raided right away for magical contraband. Give me a name and a location, and I'll have him locked away by lunch."

Luna shook her head. "No."

"What do you mean, "no?" Do you actually want him taking advantage of you like that?"

Luna shook her head again. "It's not that. I think he's doing it on purpose, sure, but I don't think he has a grasp of exactly what it is he's doing."

"What do you mean?"

Luna thought about it for a moment. "Any idiot can pour the contents of two glass jars into a larger glass jar. If those two compounds interact, however, the effects of the chemicals can be absolutely devastating. A child could mix bleach and hydrogen peroxide together, thinking they're both just stinky water, and then boom: dead foal, hole in the side of the house. They knew what they were doing, but not what it would result in."

Celestia nodded. "I think I see what you're going at... So, how do you want to handle it?"

Luna finished her coffee. "He's in Ponyville. I'm going to go see him; have a talk with his parents, look around his bedroom, see if there's anything I can do to convince him to calm down a bit."

With a nod, Celestia unlocked the doors. "I think that's a good idea. Can I have your pancakes?"

Luna scooted them across the table. "You know I prefer waffles..."
