We Can't Be TogetherView OnlineIts All So Bittersweet, But That Doesn't Mean It Wasn't WorthwhileWe Can't Be Together“Pinkie… I’m sorry. We just can’t anymore.” Twilight felt tears slip down her muzzle, “What we had was fun, some of the best moons of my life, but I’m a princess now… a real princess.” Pinkie-Pie’s face fell, eyes watering. She quickly recovered, though, “...Well it doesn’t matter if you’re a princess!” She exclaimed, smiling and bounding over to Twilight, “We can make it work! Sure we don’t see each other as often… but that doesn’t mean we have to split!” Pinkie held Twilight’s front leg in her arms, now much larger than her. Twilight had continued to grow and grow, eventually becoming the size of Celestia as she continued to care for the kingdom. She looked up at the princess, smiling. But Twilight could see right through her. Through her smiling face and shining eyes, there was fear and desperation. Hope that she wouldn’t leave her. For the first time, Twilight pushed Pinkie away, “You don’t understand. I don’t have time to be with you.” She stepped off her throne, back turned, “I hate that it has to be this way… but rather I stay with you, desperately trying to make time for you as I have…” Tears continued to fall, “And ruin what we have more. Pinkie, we’ve been too reckless.” She cried. Pinkie-Pie watched, hooves close to herself. She was quiet, not saying a word. Twilight turned to face the other, still not meeting her eyes, “I need to stay focused and take care of my kingdom. Now that I’m fully grown, I shouldn’t need the help of Celestia or Luna or anypony.” She wiped her face with her hoof, “But I do, because instead of studying and practicing my magic I’ve been with you.” “...Oh,” Pinkie-Pie responded ears down. Tears started spilling out of her eyes as well. She chuckled unconvincingly, “I-I understand. You’re the princess! You need complete focus!” She smiled wobbly, “Y-yeah! It’s fine. It’s okay!” She started to tremble. Twilight approached Pinkie-Pie, but Pinkie-Pie stepped back. “Pinkie, I’m sorry. I am. But I can’t” Said Twilight, reaching out her hoof. Pinkie-Pie dodged her hoof, “But what about me?!” She cried, breaking her false character, “I know that you can drop things but I can’t!” Silence. Twilight let out a sob as Pinkie-Pie covered her muzzle at her outburst. “...I don’t want to leave you!” Exclaimed Twilight, “I really don’t! But I have to. I would rather us be apart than we stay together and I neglect you.” Pinkie-Pie sniffed, “Okay, Twilight. Okay. You win.” She said bitterly, “I’ll leave so you have all the time you need to sit on your throne.” “Pinkie…” Twilight quietly cried. “If-” Pinkie-Pie swallowed, “If we are apart, I’m no longer Pinkie to you. I can’t stand to hear you call me that. My name is Pinkie-Pie, Princess Twilight.” Twilight stepped back as she watched Pinkie-Pie exit the throne room. She cried out, stomping her hoof and sending a magic bolt straight into her throne. She watched as crystal exploded and flew around the room. She didn’t care. Twilight left the throne room, going straight to her personal chambers. She didn’t care if something important happened or if somepony needed her. Her world was shattered, so their worlds could wait. She lay in her bed, kicking all the fancy pillows off. She couldn’t stand them. She buried her head in her hooves, letting out a sob and continuing to quietly cry. Author's Note this fic is formatted so each time skip happens in each chapter, hence why some chapters are kinda short btw :>
Goodbye, My LoveView OnlineIts All So Bittersweet, But That Doesn't Mean It Wasn't WorthwhileGoodbye, My LoveWhen she awoke the next day, Twilight ignored the pang in her heart and cleaned her room using her magic. She left her room with a straight face and a slight frown. She would do what she needed to. She was the princess, after all. “You’re majesty!” A cleaning pony exclaimed, “I went to clean your throne room and- and your throne-” “I’m aware.” Twilight interrupted, “No need to fret, I’ll fix it.” The cleaning pony tilted his head confusedly, “Um, okay.” “I want nopony to clean my throne room or personal chambers anymore. Tell the other service ponies that.” Twilight said, still monotone. The cleaning pony nodded, “Yes your majesty.” He said, bowing. He rose and walked away. Twilight huffed, walking through the hallway once more. She passed Pinkie-Pie’s door, then paused. Everypony else had left the castle one by one over the years since they were beginning to start families and have careers, all except for Pinkie-Pie. Twilight turned, knocking on the door. No answer. A swirling, nervous feeling set deep inside Twilight’s chest, so she opened the door. “It’s rude to come in without being given permission.” Huffed Pinkie-Pie, who shoved a jester hat into a suitcase. Twilight looked around the room. It was almost empty, almost everything is put in a box or bag. “You’re leaving?” Twilight asked, standing in the doorway. Pinkie-Pie sighed, “Yes. I need to leave and go do my own thing like everypony else. It’s not like I’m wanted here anyway.” Twilight stepped into the room but kept her distance from the other pony. “Pinkie-Pie, I didn’t break up with you for us to hate each other. I still do love you, and I want you to be happy and do great things.” Twilight paused, looking at Pinkie-Pie who finally turned around, “I have so many responsibilities; if we stayed together I would only continue to hurt you. I know how sad you get when I would be too busy to do something or go to bed with you. It’s for the best, for both of us.” Pinkie-Pie looked down, “I know, I’m sorry for yesterday. It just hurts.” Twilight wiped her eyes before she could start crying, “Please don’t apologize. It does hurt.” Twilight walked next to Pinkie-Pie, sitting next to her. Pinkie-Pie didn’t move. “You’ll at least write to me every once and a while like the others, right?” She asked. Pinkie-Pie nodded, “Of course.” Twilight smiled slightly, “That’s good.” She looked around the room, “If you’d like, I’ll help you pack.” Pinkie-Pie smiled, “Okay.” So Twilight helped Pinkie-Pie, ignoring the golf ball in her throat and the sinking feeling in her stomach. “If you don’t mind me asking, where are you moving to?” Asked Twilight as she rolled up a poster and put it in a tube. Twilight had the ability to pack the entire room with a flash of her horn, but she didn’t. If she did it would be over and Pinkie would leave. She was sure Pinkie-Pie knew this too. “I’m going to be staying with Maude for a bit in Appleoosa.” Replied Pinkie-Pie, zipping up her suitcase, “She and her roommate have a huge house to themselves and have wanted me to come and stay with them for a while. I’ve just been… avoiding it.” “I see.” Responded Twilight. No matter how slow they moved with Pinkies hooves and Twilight using a minimal amount of magic, everything was eventually packed. Twilight used her magic so that Pinkie-Pie didn’t have to carry anything. Twilight carried everything, all the way to the train station. It was strange to know that Pinkie-Pie already had a place to be, a place to go. But she stayed, for Twilight, who was busy most of the time. Twilight set all of Pinkie-Pie’s luggage on the luggage train. She walked back over to Pinkie-Pie, who was sitting on the bench at the train station. She sat next to her, not on the bench for she was too big. “I hope you enjoy yourself.” Said Twilight, looking over at Pinkie-Pie. Pinkie-Pie smiled, “I’ll be fine. Don’t overwork yourself, okay?” “Okay.” Responded Twilight. They sat for an unknown amount of time before the train arrived. Pinkie-Pie stood, as well as Twilight. Twilight ignored all the staring ponies who questioned why she was at the train station, she only looked at Pinkie-Pie. “Well, I guess this is goodbye, for now.” Said Pinkie-Pie solemnly. “Um-” Twilight fought herself for words, struggling to articulate exactly what she meant, “Yeah.” “Yeah.” Pinkie-Pie turned, starting to walk away. Twilight panicked, “Wait!” She pulled Pinkie-Pie back over to her and gripped her in a hug. To her surprise, Pinkie-Pie returned the hug, burying her face in Twilight’s chest. “I hope someday you find somepony who loves you as much as I do.” Whispered Twilight. A few tears fell from Pinkie-Pie’s face, “Oh, Twilight…” She mumbled sadly. Twilight let the other go from her grip, looking down at her, “I love you. Good luck to you and your travels.” Pinkie-Pie laughed, “I- I love you too. Goodbye, Twilight Sparkle.” And then she was on the train, gone. And Twilight was alone once more.
I'm So Proud of How Far You've GoneView OnlineIts All So Bittersweet, But That Doesn't Mean It Wasn't WorthwhileI'm So Proud of How Far You've GoneA filly, such a beautiful filly. Little Cheese, is what they named him. Twilight and all her other friends surrounded the cradle, cooing at him. Pinkie-Pie laughed, bounding over to her friends, “Isn’t he the cutest?” “He sure is, Sugarcube.” Responded Apple-Jack. “I think he’ll get up to a lot of chaos.” Said Discord, “The offspring of you two crazy ponies? He’s gonna be bouncing off the walls.” Everypony laughed, “He sure is!” Responded Cheese Sandwich. Twilight went over to Pinkie-Pie, “I’m so proud of you, Pinkie-Pie.” She said, “You have a wonderful family.” Pinkie-Pie nodded while their friends verbally agreed, only she and Twilight understood how deep Twilight's words went. “Thank you, Twilight.” Responded Pinkie-Pie. Twilight smiled, “Of course, Pinkie.” She walked back to their other friends, enjoying the celebration of new life. Long OverView OnlineIts All So Bittersweet, But That Doesn't Mean It Wasn't WorthwhileLong Over“Your majesty, you have a letter.” “Hm. Let me see.” Responded Twilight, taking the letter from Spike using her horn. It was from Pinkie-Pie. She had sent letters before, telling her of her adventures. It had been many, many moons since Pinkie-Pie had left that fateful day, but Twilight still had a piece of the other pony glued to her heart. Stuck to her heart with rainbow frosting and confetti. She read the letter, it saying typical things Pinkie-Pie was up to. Throwing a party, making a huge cake. She seemed to be having fun. The next paragraph made Twilight feel a pull on her heart. And guess what? I’ve met somepony! Well, I already knew him, but we’ve been going on dates for a few moons! It’s Cheese Sandwich, remember him? He’s really cool and really nice. You taught me a lot about relationships, and I hope I can use what I learned! “Twilight? Are you alright?” Asked Spike. Twilight realized she had a few tears running down her face. She wasn’t sad, she was smiling. Cheese Sandwich, he matched Pinkie perfectly. Pinkie-Pie must be so happy. How wonderful. “My apologies, Spike. All good news, I’m just getting emotional over how far my friends have gone.” Responded Twilight, continuing to smile lightly. Spike still seemed concerned, but didn’t question further, “Alright.” Pinkie-Pie must be so happy. She hopes Cheese Sandwich treats her well and the relationship lasts. Good for Pinkie. She read the rest of the letter, continuing to smile. She would write back later, Twilight wanted to sit with her thoughts for a moment. The time she had with Pinkie-Pie is long over, but she will never forget what they had, what it felt like. One chapter in the long book that is her life has passed. And she can’t wait to see what happens next.
