My Little Pokémon: Grander World
Volo the Genius
Previous ChapterNext ChapterGalar. Across the Land. Nightfall.
Currently, news of Volo spread fast across the world, this being something of great importance. If it relates to the Creator Deity himself, then it had to be important. They now had a reference to base Volo on. Cynthia's face. As long as they see a man who strongly resembles the Champion of Sinnoh, they will have their culprit.
Immediately, the people who have seen Volo pass by across different parts of the world started speaking all that they could, recalling his face. However, neither could remember where he went at all and they especially never knew who he was. The best they could do was describe the clothing he wore.
And the one to see this was none other than Volo himself. He was travelling across the land during the night as a spectral mist, blending into the darkness which made him difficult to see. Volo was already getting a hang of the shards and their power which was natural for him since he was a descendant of the Celestica People.
While he was moving across the land, he came across a city that had screen projectors on the windows of their shopping malls, showing the news report about him. Volo would stop in his tracks, seeing the news report.
He couldn't believe what he was seeing. His face was on display for everyone to see. And now, they were aware of his existence. This was bad. Very bad. He couldn't let them find out about him. Not yet.
"Hm...I should've expected this sooner or later." Volo muttered to himself. "Looks like I'll have to lay low for a while. At least until I can figure out what to do next."
He continued to watch the news report, listening to what Professor Rowan had to say. It seemed that the professors were trying to locate the shards using their own technology. That meant they would be able to track him down if he wasn't careful.
"This is troubling indeed. Looks like I'll have to be more cautious from now on." Volo sighed. "I can't let them get in my way. Not when I'm so close to achieving my goal."
He then turned around, continuing to travel across the land as a spectral mist. He needed to find a place to hide for a while and figure out his next move. He couldn't let the professors track him down. Not when he was so close to finding all the shards. While travelling, he saw that his bracelet was letting out a brighter light, indicating that he was nearing Sonia.
He kept on moving now that Sonia was near, hoping to catch up to her before she could escape. However, he soon noticed that Sci-Twi was heading towards him as well. She was probably going to meet up with him again.
"Hm. I suppose I should head back to her then. We can continue our journey together." Volo said. "But first, I need to take care of Sonia."
Currently, Sonia was near Motostoke as the train came to a halt at its station. She stepped off the train, looking around as she tried to find a place to hide. She couldn't let Volo find her. Not when she had the Bug Shard.
Sonia also couldn't stay in one place and had to keep moving. She didn't know where to go though. She was running out of options and was starting to feel desperate. She needed to find a way to lose Volo and make sure he doesn't get his hands on the shard.
As she was walking through the streets of Motostoke, she saw that the people were all talking about the news report that was just released and what to do next. While some were shocked that someone like that came from the past, others were focused on the fact that he was related to Cynthia.
"I can't believe it...He's really related to Cynthia..." One person said. "Do you think Champion Cynthia herself knew about this?"
"No clue. I don't even know what she's thinking right now." Another person replied. "But this is bad. If this guy is really after those shards, then who knows what he might do next."
"Yeah. I hope he doesn't come here. I don't want to get involved in all of this." A third person said.
Sonia listened to their conversation, feeling worried about what they were saying. She knew that Volo was dangerous and that he could do some serious damage if he wanted to. She hoped that he wouldn't come to Motostoke, but she had a feeling that he would eventually show up.
She continued to walk through the streets, trying to find a place to hide. She needed to stay out of sight and make sure that Volo didn't find her. However, as she kept on walking, making sure to go from place to place, she soon found herself in an alleyway.
The alleyway was dark and empty, with no one else around. It was the perfect place to hide. Sonia decided to stay there for a while, hoping that Volo wouldn't find her. She sat down on the ground, leaning against the wall as she sighed.
"This is bad...I can't let him find me. But I don't know where to go or what to do." Sonia muttered to herself. "I need to find a way to lose him and make sure he doesn't get the shard. But I can't keep moving on forever..."
She looked up at the sky, seeing the stars shining brightly above her. She wondered if her grandmother and the other professors were doing alright. Now that all this information has gotten out, she Sonia feared that Volo would target the Pokemon Professors next if he manages to find out. She hoped that they were safe and that they weren't in any danger.
"Grandma...I hope you're okay..." Sonia whispered. "I almost messed things up as a Pokemon Professor. I should've been more careful."
As she was sitting there, she soon heard footsteps approaching her. She quickly got up, looking around as she tried to see who it was. She couldn't tell if it was Volo or not, but she had a feeling that it might be him.
"Who's there?!" Sonia called out. "Show yourself!"
The footsteps stopped as a figure emerged from the darkness. It was none other than Volo himself. He had finally caught up to her thanks to the speed of being a spectral mist. He left his spectral form, revealing his true self. "Hello, Sonia."
"V-Volo..." Sonia gasped, taking a step back. "H-How did you find me?"
"It wasn't hard. I just followed the signal from my bracelet. Plus, the power of the shards are getting easier to manage. I can see the possibilities that can come with it. So much potential." Volo answered. "Now then, hand over the shard."
"N-No! I won't let you have it!" Sonia shouted, holding onto the shard tightly. "I won't let you use it for your own selfish desires!"
"Selfish, you say? Is that what you and everyone have gone with from the start? How sad. My true intentions are something that escapes you, it sees. But no matter. I don't have to wrassle with you anymore to get the shard."
"Eh?"
"Not when I can do this." Volo's eyes widened as he utilized the power of the Ghost Shards once more. Sonia gasped as Volo became a spectral mist once more, flying straight for her. She tried to run away, but it was no use. The mist had entered her body, causing her to scream in pain.
"Ahhhh!" Sonia screamed as she felt the ghostly presence of the shard enter her body. She fell to the ground, clutching her chest as she tried to fight off the pain. However, it was too much for her to handle. Her eyes then pulsated as, becoming a bit more hollow than before.
She could feel Volo taking over her body, forcing her to stand up. She tried to resist, but it was no use. She couldn't control herself anymore. She was now under Volo's control.
"There we go. Now that I have you under my control, I can finally get what I want." Volo said, speaking through Sonia's mouth. "Don't worry. I'll take good care of it. I'll also be using it for a while. Since I'll be gathering all the shards, I'll have to find ways to keep more than 5 of them away from each other to avoid another destructive outcome. Possessing another's body to distance them will do.
In his hands, he now held the Bug Shard, successfully gaining a hold of yet another shard. With a smirk, he started walking while using Sonia's body as a vessel, posing as her. He even sounded like her.
"Now then...Let's see how long you can last, shall we?" Volo chuckled. "I wonder what kind of chaos you'll cause."
Try as she might, Sci-Twi was unable to find Volo anywhere. She had searched from place to place in different points of Galar, but failed to do so. It seemed that he had vanished into thin air. And with the news report about him being out there, she was starting to get worried.
"Where is he...?" Sci-Twi muttered to herself.
She continued to search for him, hoping to find some sort of clue as to where he might be. However, she soon found herself at a dead end. She didn't know where else to look and she was starting to lose hope.
"I can't believe it...He's gone..." Sci-Twi sighed. "I guess I'll just have to wait until he comes back."
"Are you sure about that?" Marnie questioned. "Maybe he's already gone somewhere else now that all this news came out.
"No. He wouldn't leave me behind. He promised that he would help me find the rest of the shards." Sci-Twi shook her head. "I'm sure he'll come back eventually."
"If you say so." Marnie shrugged. "But I think you should be careful. You don't know what he might do next."
"Hey there~!" In the distance, someone called out to Sci-Twi while she was rather disappointed. It was the voice of Sonia. Present there and approaching Sci-Twi and Marnie was Sonia, who was actually Volo right now.
"Huh? W-Who are you?" Of course, she had no idea who Sonia was since she never met her before.
"Sorry for the scare. Sonia's the name." Volo actually stuck with this disguise, telling Sci-Twi her name.
"Oh. You're not that new Pokemon Professor." Marnie recognized Sonia immediately. This was perfect. Just what Volo wanted now that he had them both convinced.
"Mhm. Volo sent me here to talk to you. He's become quite the talk of the region so quickly, hasn't he?" Volo-Sonia giggled. "Anyways, I'm only here to tell you what Volo shared with me. He told me to pass this on. The Bug Shard."
"No way! Another Shard!" Sci-Twi's eyes lit up, her glasses almost falling off. Volo-Sonia then revealed the Bug Shard, in all of its light green glory.
"Right here. Volo told me to make sure to keep the number of shards close to each other to a minimum to avoid any wild destruction, like what happened at Lilycove. So he's keeping the Dragon and Ghost shard only, while you'll keep the Rock and Bug Shard."
"That's great! Thank you so much!" Sci-Twi smiled, taking the shard from Volo-Sonia. "I'll be sure to take good care of it. Oh, hold on!" She soon remembered the Ice Shard she got earlier today, digging into her bag and pulling it out. "I also got this one from Circhester. The Ice Shard. So that means we now have 5 Shards!"
"Oooh..." Volo-Sonia smiled, seeing how excited Sci-Twi was. "Wonderful...Volo will be happy about this one, no doubt. Speaking of him, he told me where you should meet up with him next."
"Alright. But uh...why are you doing this, actually? Aren't you worried about Volo after seeing the news? He's kinda wanted now." Marnie asked.
"I'm a bit of a different thinker." Volo-Sonia tapped on her forehead. "I already spoke to Volo after all and saw something different from the rest. You have nothing to worry about Twilight. I trust Volo. And I'm sure you do too."
"Yeah. I do." Sci-Twi nodded. "So where should I meet up with him?"
"You should head to the Giant's Mirror at the Wild Area. That's where he'll be waiting for you." Volo-Sonia answered. "He said that you can go there right away if you want. He'll be waiting for you there."
"Okay. I'll head over there right away." Sci-Twi smiled. "Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it."
"No problem. I'm just glad to help." Volo-Sonia smiled back. "Now then, I must be off. I have some other things to take care of. See ya!" She waved goodbye before walking off, leaving Sci-Twi and Marnie behind.
Hammerlocke.
But Volo-Sonia wasn't quite done yet. He then went over to the location where Fiery was currently unconscious at, having been knocked out by Volo earlier. He needed to make sure Fiery doesn't meet up with Sci-Twi, since she could easily tell her about what really happened and how Sonia was being chased by Volo.
Volo-Sonia then picked her up from the ground, carrying her in his arms. He then walked off from here, heading to Hammerlocke. He would make sure to keep Fiery safe until she woke up. And once she's awake, Volo-Sonia would lie to her about everything.
He arrived Hammerlocke, renting a room at the hotel and placing Fiery on the bed. He made sure to leave her some food and water, so she wouldn't starve or get thirsty. Now, he just had to wake her up and he had the means of doing so. Using the power of the Ghost Shard once more, he snapped his fingers, causing Fiery to wake up.
"Ugh...What happened...?" Fiery groaned as she slowly opened her eyes. She looked around, trying to figure out where she was. She soon noticed that she was in a hotel room and that someone else was with her.
"Oh, you're finally awake." Volo-Sonia smiled. "My, you were down for a while, weren't you?"
"Huh...? Oh, it's you! The one Volo was chasing! What happened?! Where am I?!" Fiery gasped, getting up from the bed.
"Calm down. You're safe now. " Volo-Sonia explained. "I brought you here to Hammerlocke and rented a room for you. I hope you don't mind."
"I see...Thank you for saving me." Fiery sighed in relief. "But what happened? Did you get away from Volo safely?"
"I did. But he wasn't actually dangerous." This was his chance to change Fiery's perception on Volo. "I suppose that chase-down looked rather suspicious, didn't it? Especially after I ran off."
"No way! Seriously?!" Fiery gasped. "Then why was he chasing you?"
"Well, it's because I was running off with the Bug Shard. He wanted to get it back, but I kept running with it. However, I talked with Volo once he caught up to me and we came to an understanding." Volo-Sonia explained. "He's an odd character, no doubt, but not what I and many expected him to be. Right now, he's all over the news as a wanted man."
"You're kidding...There's no way he's not dangerous. That's the whole reason me and my friends came here in the first place." Fiery shook her head. "After how he convinced Twilight to go with her and-"
"Twilight understands." Volo-Sonia cut her off. "I talked with her earlier before coming to get with you. It's alright now. I understand Volo clearly but...it won't be easy. Not when he's wanted at the moment. But I'm a bit alone in this race with public opinion being out there."
"I...I guess so..." Fiery sighed. "I still can't believe what you're saying. Are you sure he's not dangerous?"
"I'm positive. He's just a bit eccentric, that's all." Volo-Sonia reassured her. "But I doubt that will change much. The rest of your friends are still out there searching for Twilight, but you can meet up with her again over at the Giant's Mirror. I've already given her a Shard Volo passed onto me."
"This is...This is a bit weird for me." She held onto her head, rather confused. "I mean, I only heard about Volo a little bit. I didn't hear that much about him. Only that he dragged Twilight along on this fetch quest and all that. My counterpart didn't really trust him all that much and that battle I had with him showed me some of that. I-"
Before she could recall what she saw approaching her during the end of that battle, Volo-Sonia would lightly flick her finger, making her remember something else entirely. This was yet another usage of the Ghost Shard's power.
"Yes?" Volo-Sonia leaned in, waiting for an answer.
"I...I don't remember actually..."
"Hm. Most likely, you were thinking about something else. Whatever it was, I doubt it can really click for you again. That battle you had with Volo was probably fierce, even if I wasn't there, but I'd say it was just on the wrong terms. If you see him again, give him another chance. Or just go and talk to Twilight as soon as possible."
"Yeah...Maybe you're right." Fiery nodded while holding her head. "I'll go to Twilight right away...Thanks for helping me out."
"No problem. Just glad to help." Volo-Sonia smiled. "Now then, I must be off. I have other things to take care of. See ya!" He waved goodbye before leaving the room, closing the door behind him.
Fiery watched him leave, feeling a bit conflicted about everything. She wasn't sure what to think anymore. She didn't know if Volo was dangerous or not. But she decided to trust Sonia's words and go to Twilight as soon as possible.
Volo-Sonia left the hotel, heading to the Wild Area. He would have to dispose of Sonia's body soon just to return to how he was, but he would make sure to use it again eventually. While walking, her had a devous grin on his face, laughing slowly.
"Amazing...just amazing. So this is what I can really do with the shards at my disposal. All this potential...and I'm only using a fraction of it. I wonder what else I can do with them...I feel like a Deity with this kind of power."
He would then stop in his tracks, looking up at the sky. He wondered what he should do next. He had the Dragon and Ghost Shards, but he needed to keep the number of shards close to each other to a minimum.
"Hm...Perhaps I should get rid of one of the shards for now. It would be best to keep the number down to 3 for now. And I think I know just the place to hide it." Volo-Sonia smirked. "But for now..."
He would then exit Sonia's body, leaving it to lie against a tree in an unconscious state. He'll obviously be back for it eventually and he even had the power to wake her up whenever he chooses.
"My plans are about to get a whole lot bigger. All for the sake of making things right in the past."
The Wild Area. Giant's Mirror.
Sci-Twi and Marnie were currently making their way to the Wild Area, hoping to meet up with Volo. Sci-Twi was excited to see him again and to show him the shards that they had managed to collect.
Approaching here was Volo himself, who was no longer disguised as Sonia. He was back to his normal self, wearing his usual outfit. He smiled as he saw Sci-Twi and Marnie approaching him.
"Ah, there you are." Volo greeted them. "I was wondering when you'd arrive."
"Sorry for taking so long. We had to make sure we weren't followed." Sci-Twi apologized.
"It's alright. I understand." Volo nodded. "So, I see you've managed to find some more shards. Excellent work."
"Thanks. I'm glad I could help." Sci-Twi smiled. "Oh! And I also got the Bug Shard from Sonia!" She held out the Bug Shard, showing it to Volo.
"Excellent. Now we have 5 shards." Volo smiled. "We're making good progress."
"Yeah. I'm glad we're getting closer to our goal." Sci-Twi nodded. "But what should we do next? Where should we go?"
"I believe we're done here at Galar. Let's take a swing at Sinnoh next. I have some business to attend to over there anyways." Volo answered. "I have a good feeling about there compared to everywhere else."
"Alright. Sounds good to me." Sci-Twi agreed before facing Marnie. "Thanks for the help, Marnie. For calling Ash and letting me speak with him. I really appreciate it."
"Yeah, sure. No problem. But what are you even gonna do about this whole Wanted thing? No way you can just walk around freely anymore." Marnie pointed out. Volo would need a way to get past everyone else now that he was Wanted.
"Yeah...I'm worried about you Volo." Sci-Twi faced him. "What do we do now?"
"No worries. I have a solution. Twilight. You'll have to get to Sinnoh before I do. I'll catch up. There's just something I need to do if I want to travel safely."
Volo had more up his sleeve. He was a clever man, knowing how to play his cards correctly. Granted, being wanted means that he'll have a harder time, but he was willing to take on this challenge that would have different parts of the world against him. His plan involved Sonia once more and now that he's seen what the other Shards can really do, his plan was about to expand even more than before.
As the journey continues.
