My Little Pokémon: Grander World
Contest Clash
Previous ChapterNext ChapterEquestria. Las Pegasus. The Grand Festival. Day.
The Grand Festival had begun.
Equestria's first-ever Grand Festival was underway, with the performance stage being up first as always. Gelidity started it off, showing what her Alolan Ninetales and Jellicent were capable of.
After Gelidity's performance, many others would go after her and show off their amazing talents. So many ways of displaying their Pokemon and the attacks they can use. It's a true showcase of beauty. There were many wonderful displays, with the Pokemon all coming together to create beautiful displays. Even some that would seem strange were made into amazing works of art.
So far, 32 coordinators have done the absolute best that they could, each receiving applause. As the performances went on, it was now time for Sweetie Belle to go. It was time for her to step onto the green stage and perform with all her might.
She would stand up, having been sitting on a bench waiting for her chance to go up. "Alright, it's my turn!" The little unicorn ran out onto the Red Stage, coming to a screeching halt. By using her magic, she launched two Poke Balls into the air
"Plusle! Minun! Go!"
"Plusle!" Plusle appeared, her tail sparking with energy.
"Minun!" Minun landed next to her on the other side.
"Alright, you two, I need you to focus!" Sweetie Belle called, ready to give out the best Electric Performance she could. "Plusle, use Thunder on Minun! Minun, use Helping Hand!"
The two Pokemon nodded and got to it, standing close to one another. Minun would give Plusle the motivation and energy she needed to give her attacks a little extra power.
"Min!"
"Pla!" Plusle's cheeks began sparking as a powerful blast of electricity was sent straight for Minun. Minun would hold out his hand as if to accept it.
"Min..." The blast hit him head-on but dealt extremely minimal damage as he started holding it back with all of his might. "Min! Min! Minun!"
As the electricity would start to surround him, he would take a deep breath and let out a powerful cry, the electric energy all coming out at once as a giant electric wave. The wave would be manipulated by Minun as he raised his arms, causing it all slowly rise. All that power fluctuated, the lightning swerving through the air in the same pattern as a snake.
"Nice...Now, use Light Screen!"
"Plus!" By spreading her arms out, Plusle would summon two large screens of light, holding them for a bit. Afterwards, she leapt into the air, approaching the slithering Lightning Bolt. With excellent aim, the Cheering Pokemon launched the two screens at the electricity, causing them to connect.
The first screen would plaster itself on the right side of the lightning, promptly transforming. Plusle made it so that the screen could bend and wobble as it started wrapping itself around the attack. By doing so, the middle of the electricity would be squeezed, the light reflecting off the Light Screen and sending a glorious array of colours everywhere for all to see.
But it did not stop there. The second Light Screen came along, promptly pashing through the first one but still connecting with the attack. To everyone's surprise, the second one would enter the attack instead of wrapping around it, allowing the colours to expand some more.
The new colours clashed with the old ones, creating colours that no one had ever seen or properly perceived before. It was impossible to tell what colours were coming out of the attack. It looked to be a mixture of Red, Yellow and Pink but with an odd hue to the.
"And now, Minun! Use Rain Dance!"
"Nun!" While controlling the Thunder, Minun's eyes flashed blue as he summoned a storm cloud above the entire stadium. Naturally, as rain started to pour at high speeds, the water reacted to the electricity, causing a strong reaction. Everyone saw how the top of the lightning bolt was starting to swell up like a ballon, growing a circular shape.
"It looks like it's gonna pop" Ash exclaimed when seeing it expand. Everyone anticipated when it would pop, waiting ever-so patiently for the finale.
Inevitably, it popped. A loud crack of thunder went off in here but the aftermath was gorgeous. Plusle and Minun managed to create a Lightning Flower as the top of it had all the new colours blossoming and sprouting from it. All the water from Rain Dance would also flow out of it, the droplets having various colours. The cherry on top was some of the water landing on the crowd and judges, colouring their skin, hair, fur and other body textures they have, plus their clothes.
"Look at all those colours!" Marian held her hand out, catching the droplets. "What do we even call these?! I've never seen these colours before!"
"And that flower? A Thunder Flower looks and sounds great, doesn't it?" Fantina smiled at the young coordinator, glad that she had made such a beautiful display.
"I'd love to try and paint these new colours..." Princess Luna mumbled, her mane having a mixture of purple, blue and yellow. "I just hope we can find them easily."
"Now that's a wonderful performance!" Mr Contesta exclaimed, smiling. He couldn't help but smile, as he thought this was a great display. Sweetie Belle had a relieved sigh as she would return Plusle and Minun, the performance over. It wasn't the most spectacular thing ever, but it was enough for the judges to like it and it got the crowd pumped. So it was definitely something to feel good about. Rarity certainly felt good about it, applauding her sister's performance the loudest.
Afterwards, the remaining coordinators would go as it was nearing the finale for the First Stage of the Grand Festival. Everyone was already feeling exhausted, having used so much energy for the opening stages. It's only natural for the Coordinators and Pokemon to feel that way.
Marian would return to the scene, ready to continue from here. "Now, after 108 Coordinators and a total of 216 Pokemon! It's finally the end of the first stage! All of the Judges have decided the final 32 to move on! So let's see them now!"
The screen would light up with each of the portraits of the sixteen Coordinators. Each of them was a contestant with high scores and who did an amazing job, with a few notable faces being shown off. Sweetie Belle, Diamond Tiara, Premium Polish, Gelidity and even a few others amde it this far, exceeding the first part.
Everyone cheered as her two friends managed to get past the first stage, something that wasn't so easy to do with 108 coordinators present.
Sweetie Belle and all those who passed let out collective sighs of relief, as they were glad to make it to the second round. They would soon leave to their designated rooms and get some rest before the next part.
As they all got some rest, Sweetie Belle sat in a secluded area, a lounge room where she was resting her back against the couch and staring up at the ceiling, trying to imagine what she could do next. Her friends would arrive to check on the young coordinator and how she was doing after such an intense round.
"Great work, Sweetie Belle!" Rarity exclaimed while zooming in to give her sister a big hug, happy that her little sister was doing well.
"How'd you figure out how to make those colours?!" Rainbow Dash questioned while Sweetie Belle was being squeezed by Rarity, who was still excited and happy. "Those looked so cool!"
"M-Magic!" Her answer was incredibly simple. It was magic that helped her do it, as it seemed like she couldn't properly answer. Really, most coordinators in the Grand Festival have been using magic to help their performances
"You're doing amazing so far, Sweetie Belle! That was an incredible performance you put on there." Sootaloo told her, grinning from ear to ear. "You're doing amazing for your first time!"
"I'm glad to hear that, everyone" The unicorn sighed in relief. Now that she qualified, it was time for her to get past the remaining trainers who made it through. Of course, since so many coordinators went through with this, a lot of time had passed by and the late afternoon was now approaching. Thus, the first day of the Grand Festival was coming to an end. Which meant the second part was coming soon.
"Alright, now that all the contestants who've qualified are in, it's time for them to go to the next part! Tomorrow, we will be having our next event! But first!" She looked to the screen that was now lighting up with each of the Coordinators.
The first round of Contest Battles would be separated into four blocks. A, B, C and D. Those on Block A would be shown off first. All sixteen of them would have their portraits shown off as they were paired up against other contestants randomly. Sweetie Belle was going to be going against Premium Polish in the very first match. Diamond Tiara and Gelidity were not present on Block A and would instead be on other blocks.
"Let's see how everyone is matched up! This will decide who will be moving onto the final stage of the Festival! So, get ready!" She would close off by waving at everyone as the curtains would come to a close. And with that, the coordinators who made it would be escorted out.
Sweetie Belle was the last to leave, having stayed in the area for a bit. She wanted to take it all in and enjoy it. But as she did so, Diamond Tiara came up behind her.
"Hey." Diamond greeted, getting the young filly to look up to see her rival for now. Diamond had her eyes closed and she was crossing her hooves as she stood before her.
"Hi, Diamond Tiara. Congrats on making it through!"
"Naturally, I made it through, just as you did." Diamond chuckled, her eyelids rising as she opened her eyes, revealing a fierce and competitive look. Her smile widened, showing off a more confident expression. "To be honest, I was spooked back there. It's bad enough that everypony here have a bunch of skills, but the fact that 108 of us were there? I'd say I got pretty lucky that my performance stuck out."
"Same here. I didn't think there would be that many." Sweetie Belle chuckled, standing up from her spot on the floor, brushing off dust on her dress. "We'll see who's better tomorrow. Well, you're on another block anyways. It'll be me up against Premium Polish first. I haven't seen or heard from her in so long, so who knows what she can do?"
"She was living in Canterlot Castle, so I betcha Princess Celestia taught her some stuff." Diamond Tiara slid over, suspecting that Premium Polish may have received mentoring from Celestia. And technically, she wouldn't be wrong. "I mean, Princess Celestia's not exactly a Contest Fiend, she's more into Pokemon Battles. But..."
"Oh, I hear ya." Sweetie Belle nodded, seeing where she was coming from. While Gelidity was the one who worried them the most, Premium Polish could have something up her sleeve.
Nightfall.
Speaking of Premium Polish, as the moon rose and many of the coordinators would stay in the Las Pegasus hotels to sleep, the Princesses of the Day and Night were in the lobby of the same building, sitting on the couch as they had just finished eating their dinner, enjoying some fine cuisine. In Celestia's case, vanilla cake was the finest cuisine she could ever have.
Premium Polish was just outside, standing on the balcony. Being an android, sleeping wasn't a problem for her, even though she was capable of doing so and burning a ton of energy. Instead, she decided that she'd stand outside for the night and look at the beautiful lights of the city. She looked up at the moon, thinking of the type of things she'll do tomorrow.
As an android who was also built to be a unicorn, she had a lot of options on the table that most unicorns don't. She tapped her hoof on the balcony, digging deep for the next move she'll make. And as she was doing so, someone was approaching her from the balcony. Celestia saw who it was and it almost made her choke on the cake she was eating. Premium Polish turned around to see a familiar face who came to see her.
"Hah...Mom!"
It was her mother, Skyblue Shine. She was a light blue unicorn who was well known for her expertise in stealth and once worked for the Twilight Imperium. But her love for her daughter broke her free of the Empire's clutches. She had returned from whichever universe she was hiding in just to come and see her daughter
"Mom! You're here!" Premium Polish pranced over. Usually, Skyblue Shine stays in another universe, occasionally sending her daughter gifts to make up for lost time. But now, she was here on this beautiful night.
"Hello, dear. I made sure to come for your big moment. The one thing you've been passionate about." Skyblue said, leaning in for a big hug. The hug was so tight that Premium felt her mechanical body start to malfunction, a small beep echoing from her. She did love her mother very much but her strength was just too much for a little filly android. She pulled away after a few seconds. Somehow, Skyblue Shine had improved in physical strength. "I know it's been some time since I've come to visit, but I was just busy."
"I-I understand, mom. It's been busy, hasn't it?"
Skyblue nodded. "Yes, I've been working as someone who assists other Universes. I officially work for Princess Celestia and all of Equestria now. My crimes have been expunged and I'm as free as I can be. Minus being with you all the time. But when I heard that the Grand Festival was happening here, I had to take my chance to see you."
"I'm glad you're here! This makes me feel 10x better about the second round tomorrow!" Premium was absolutely elated that her mom could make it. Her smile couldn't have grown any wider at all. "Oh, you should've seen me today, mom! And you gotta see me tomorrow! I'm gonna do something that no one else can do! All because I'm an android."
"Oh? I have a good idea as to what it is. Not dangerous at all to you whatsoever. I look forward to your battle tomorrow. Do your best. Win or lose." She gave a reassuring smile as she would reach to give her daughter another hug, this time being gentle. To have her mother here gave Premium Polish more confidence than ever.
Day.
A new day had risen as the second day of the Grand Festival had now begun. The next part of the Grand Festival would be the Contest Battle, where coordinators and Pokemon alike will battle against each other to determine who's worthy enough to advance to the next round.
"Now, for the second day of the Grand Festival!" Marian bellowed to them all. "It's Round 2 and it's time to go straight into the matchups. Please direct your attention to the matchups in Block A! You would've already seen them yesterday but here they are once more!"
The matchups stayed the same with Sweetie Belle and Premium Polish being the first two up. The first round of the A Block Contest Battle would be these two and whoever succeeds will make into the the other coordinators and eventually, a victor of the A Block will be decided.
The two unicorns stood on opposite sides of each other, each ready for battle as a timer was being displayed on the screen, showing five minutes for the two of them to battle. "Are you two ready? You both know how the rules work."
"Mhm." Sweetie nodded. She had already read the rulebook beforehand, knowing how things work.
"Yes." Premium replied. It was all the same was ordinary contests after all.
Marian took a step back, seeing the coordinators ready to begin. She took her microphone, and with a wave of her hand, announced, "In that case...Go! Send out your Pokemon!
"For this, I choose Prinplup and Meowstic!"
"Meowstic!"
"Prinplup!"
"And for this one...I choose my partners, Masquerain and Flareon!" Sweetie Belle had sent out her tried and true partners, the duo letting out flashes of light from their Poke Balls once they emerged.
"Masquerain!"
"Flareon!"
With that, the contest battle had started. Manaphy was watching this through the window, hovering there as she got a good view of Sweetie Belle and the stage. Skyblue Shine sat far away from everyone else, watching her daughter with pride in her eyes.
"I'll go first! Masquerain! Use Quiver Dance!"
"Que! Masquerain...!" Ascending high into the air, Masqueiran emitted a green energy from her body, her attack, defence and speed rising. Due to that rising speed, the green energy that radiated from her body would leave a trail behind as she kept ascending.
"Meowstic! Follow her with Psyshock!"
"Meow!" Raising her hands, Meowstic summoned three thick masses of Psychic Energy, turning the into platforms. Hopping on, she'd ascend as well, chasing down Masquerain while on those Psychic platforms. Meowstic jumped from platform to platform until she was high enough to use an attack.
"I don't think so! Flareon, use Overheat!"
"Flare...Flareon!" Yelling at the top of his lungs, a great blaze of flames erupted from his mouth. They swirled in a circle and would reach for Meowstic with incredible speed. As the flames would get near Meowstic, Prinplup jumped in front of the cat, defending his teammate. He took the attack head on, allowing the flames to swirl around him instead of swirling around Masquerain as intended.
"Wah!" Premium Polish gasped at this as now Prinplup was in controlf of the move, smirking at her and Flareon. "Hey, that's mine!"
"Hehe!" Sweetie Belle let out a devious chuckle. "After watching a lot of Ash's big battles, especially the one with Princess Celestia last month, I decided to do what he does some times! Use my opponents moves against them!"
All those times she's said that she'll take note of a stylish and amazing tactics Ash does, she meant it. Everytime Ash deided to do something that Sweetie Belle could take inspiration from, she would always memorize it and keep in mind how she could use it. She'd even make a point to ask him and he'd gladly show her.
Those 4 years oinspiration and guidance ere about to truly kick in.
With Prinplup taking in the attack and holding it in, Sweetie Belle was ready to give him a command. "Send it up, Prinplup! Use Aerial Ace!"
"Plup! Prin!" By using the speed of Aerial Ace while surrounded by the flames, Prinplup flew upwards, sending the Overheat up to Masquerain. It was a huge ring of fire now that swirled and engulfed Masquerain. The Eyeball Pokemon's wings began flapping as the energy of Quiver Dance would begin to mix in with the fire.
"Masque!" Masquerain let out a screech, flying higher and higher while the flames would begin to change colour, glowing brighter as the power within it would begin to shine. She managed to withstand the attack despite how super-effective it was to her.
And to everyone's eyes, Prinplup ascending into the air while having some fire remaining around him made him look almost like a Phoenix.
"Take a gander at that! It looks like a Phoenix!" Marian and many others gasped.
"Meow!" Meowstic would jump off her platforms and use her Psychic Energy to catch Prinplup in mid air. "Meow...stic..."
"M-Masquerain!" As for Masquerain, she would fall, but managed to recover before she could hit the ground.
"Alright...I didn't seen that coming. But it won't stop me." Premium Polish frowned. She was still in this despite how off guard she was caught by such an attack.
"Now, Masquerain, use Silver Wind! Flareon, use Swift!"
"Masque!"
"Flare!"
As the attack was being used, Flareon's tail began to glow white, the attack coming out in a star-like pattern. These two attacks would merge together as the wind would send the stars all across the stage, aiming straight at the two Pokemon. The stars and the wind merged to create a starry trail that looked like it could be crossed, similar to a bridge.
"Go, Prinplup! Metal Claw! Meowstic, use Psyshock!"
"Prinp!" Prinplup approached the attack, his fllippers being coated in metallic energy. His claws grew longer as he was ready to cut the attack apart. But before he did, along came those three thick masses once more. And instead of being used as a platform this time, Meowstic made it so that it acted as a barrier. The three thick masses surrounded Prinplup from three sides while the stars and winds were up ahead.
The attack clashed with the Psyshock, letting out a gorgeous light that was created when the two attacks came in contact. It illuminated the stadium with a beautiful array of colours. Afterwards, Prinplup would slice the attack in the middle, cutting through Psyshock was as well, managing to get through the attack.
"Gotcha..." But Premium Polish was ready for this. With a grin, she was ready to gain the advantage. "Flareon, use Copycat!"
"Eon! Flare!" By doing this, Flareon's body was surrounded by the same metal coating that was around Prinplup. Flareon's paws began glowing as they extended outwards, the Flame Pokemon having a mischievous grin on his face as well. Prinplup gasped as Flareon approached him unexpectedly, copying his own attack. But it did not end there.
He leapt over Prinplup, avoiding the Metal Claw altogether. And with full force, he crashed into Primplup, stomping on his back. "P-Prin!" Prinplup cfried out as he was soon pinned to the ground by Flareon's feet, being unable to move due to the Flareon's weigh increasing thanks to Metal Claw.
"Oh! Prinplup's pinned!" Rarity gasped, leaning forward with shock in her eyes. With Prinplup pinned, he wouldn't be able to pull off any combo moves with Meowstic. And Premium knew this.
"Quick, Meowstic! Get him out of there with Shadow Ball!"
"Meow...!" In one hand, a ball of shadows would be formed, ready to be unleashed. However, Premium was ready for that as well.
"Now! Scary Face!"
"Masquerain!" Masquerain's body would vibrate rapidly, manipulating the shape of her wings's eye patterns, enlarging them. Masquerain had found a new tactic of changing up her eye patterns, finding a far more efficient eye pattern. The pattern resembled something horrifying as Masquerain flew forward and got closer and closer. It would make the opponents shiver, seeing those terrifying eyes.
"Stic...!" Meowstic was terrified by the sight, feeling the hairs on the back of her neck rise, her heart racing as the Shadow Ball would vanish from her hand. "Meow!" Meowstic was unable to do much. Her body was trembling and her knees were knocking. "St-Stic!" The cat fell onto the ground and was now stuck in fear, unable to move, paralyzed in a state of fear.
"She's stunned, just like that?! What did she see?!" May exclaimed. Everyone else needed answers.
"From the looks of those eye patterns...Masquerain's managed to replicate the Lich Queen!" Fantina was the one to spot it. She recognized that face pattern anywhere. Using the look of a feared enemy was quite effecient, no doubt.
Now, both of Sweetie Belle's Pokemon were restrained in some way. Prinplup was pinned while Meowstic was stunned in the moment. Premium Polish quickly turned it around on her opponent and was now in the lead. This was just the first battle of the Grand Festival. The way they battle is as fierce as they way they perform as the journey continues.
