Grings Kodai

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Sinnoh.

Grings Kodai.

The Man who had the power to see the future. Once a successful businessman, widely recognized for his business success, even having a magazine published following his exploits, he was the former president of a powerful corporation bearing his name, the Kodai Network, having great power over Crown City.

His past is all reliant on his ability. His history of when he started the Kodai Network and how it grew so powerful was thanks to the Time Ripple he found many years ago.

Thanks to him finding that ripple and gaining the ability to see into the future, he had so many advantages. He knew exactly what to do and how to do it in order to become successful in his career. In fact, it's because of the Ripple that the Kodai Network was born.

But now, that was no longer the case. After being foiled by Ash and his friends due to a situation surrounding a Zoroark, Kodai was now imprisoned in the Nimbasa City Jail, having been stripped of everything. The only thing left to his name was his Time Ripple powers.

The same powers that made him a success in the past. Those were now used to keep track of his sentence. Knowing how long he had to wait until his time was served.

Even though he kept his powers, he had no intention of using them for his escape. He decided that there was no way out for him, so he ewould just wait for his time to be up. Then, he could finally get back to his life.

But one angel would decide to change that, opting to end his sentence early.

That angel was Strident Heart.

The reason? Because Grings Kodai would have the knowledge and the power to help Strident Heart in her mission to not only save Lightwing and the angels from Team Plasma, but also put an end to Ash and his future endevaours.

After all, Kodai hated Ash with a burning passion.

So, Strident Heart flew through the air, heading straight for the Sinnoh Prison. As an angel, she had no fear of being caught. Even though she didn't have her full strength back, not even a fraction of it, she still had enough Divine Magic to get through the prison walls and make it to Kodai's cell.

Using a spell, she phased through the prison walls. As if they didn't exist. It was like going through water, passing right on through without a problem.

Once inside the prison, she made sure no one could see her by using a Divine Spell. She hid herself from the guards, the prisoners and any security cameras that could've picked up her presence.

Now that she was safely inside, Strident Heart continued onward. Heading straight towards where she believed Kodai to be located at.

The prison wasn't very large compared to some others in the country, but it still housed a good number of inmates. Most were either serving short sentences or were simply being held here until they could stand trial.

This was a place that Strident Heart hated. Any angel would hate this place. It reeked with negative emotions and darkness.

As Strident Heart made her way down the corridor, she could sense Kodai nearby. He was definitely in this building. He wasn't far away. All she had to do now was find him and speak with him.

Eventually, Strident Heart reached Kodai's cell. It looked like all the others. There were bars on the window and door, and the room itself was quite small. However, this one was different than the rest. This cell had a television set and a few books lying around, along with a couple of pictures of Kodai and his family.

She knew this was the place where Kodai resided, but she had no idea what kind of state he was in.

Strident Heart walked over to the cell. Looking through the bars, she saw Kodai sitting on the bed, his head down and his tone silent. This entire time, Kodai hasn't said much at all over the years he's spent here. He has remained quiet, keeping to himself. Only talking to guards and other inmates when necessary.

But today, things will change.

"Grings Kodai..." Strident Heart called out to him, causing Kodai to lift his head. He saw her through the bars. An Angel with her wings outstretched, staring directly at him with a cold look on her face.

"...Who are you?" Kodai asked. This was something he never expected. Due to him using the ability to count the days until he would be free, this blindsided him completely.

"At this moment, mortal, you're standing before an Angel. I've come to temporarily release you from your sentence." Strident Heart answered. "You're going to help me with a little issue that's been going on. Once we're done, then you may return to this prison and continue counting the days until your sentence is served."

"I-I don't understand...? An Angel? Needing my help? For what?" Kodai questioned. "A-And are you even an angel...?"

"You have a grudge against a Trainer named Ash Ketchum." She stated. "I too, share a similar hatred. Although mine is far more righteous. So I want you to work with me to bring him down, along with a threat to the world known as Team Plasma." Strident Heart explained to him. "If we work together, then we can accomplish these goals."

"...I don't understand...How does this have anything to do with me?"

"Your future-sight powers, that's what. With those powers of yours, you can help us stop Team Plasma and defeat Ash once and for all. We can end their reign and finally put an end to the Pokemon world's most notorious trainer. And once we're done, you can go back to your cell, awaiting your freedom. You have nothing to lose, and I get what I want." She spoke with a tone of conviction. "So, Kodai, what say you? Will you aid me? Will you join me in this fight against evil?" Her gaze hardened, staring him in the eyes.

"Tch...Even if I wanted to help...my ability to see the future is worse than before." Kodai sighed. "Ever since I lost on that day, my power has greatly diminished. It was the Ripple that granted me my power. And after that, it's not as powerful. I've only used it to count the days until my sentence is up."

"That will no longer be a problem." Strident approached him. She reached through the bars, placing her hoof upon his head. "I'm an Angel, Kodai. With my Divine Magic, I'll grant you the former capabilities to see into the future once more. You will have all the power you need to stop Team Plasma."

She began to concentrate on him, using her magic. A Divine Light emanated from her hoof. The light slowly spread throughout his body. It enveloped him completely.

"Gaaah!" Kodai groaned and his body shook. He felt the magic coursing through his body, giving him new strength and energy. It made him feel better than ever before. And suddenly, he could feel the Time Ripple in his hands.

His body was being healed by the Angel. His powers had returned. The same power that had made him successful in the past. The power that had granted him so much success, allowing him to rise to the top and rule Crown City.

And now, that power was back in his possession. All he needed now was a chance to use it. And Strident Heart would be able to give him that chance. Kodai got on his knees, breathing in and out heavily. His body shivered as the light disappeared.

"Hm...There we are." Strident spoke. "Your powers have returned to their former state. All their capabilities are as they once were before your downfall. I've even taken the liberty to add a bit extra. So now, you don't have to worry about visions that are bound to one reigon."

"I...I feel like myself again." Kodai said. "Like I've never even lost them!"

"Now then...What's your choice?"

"...If you think you can make this work, then I'm willing to help you. But if I'm going to do this, then you have to promise me one thing. If you really are an angel, then you can make this happen."

"Fine then. What else do you want?"

"I don't want to cause any more trouble. I doubt there's any place for me left in the world. Even when I serve my sentence, once I head back out there, I have nothing." Kodai told her. "So once I'm free, I don't care what you do. But I want a fresh start."

Seeing this, it was clear that Kodai had great regrets and wanted to put it all behind him. To Strident Heart, that was a positive in her eyes. To see a once destructive human turn away from treading that path again, unlike Ghetsis and Team Plasma, brought a light smile to her face.

"I'm a Divine Being, Kodai." She assured him. "When we're done, I can give you a new beginning."

"...Alright...I'll put my trust in you."

"Perfect. Now then, Kodai. Look into the future. See if there are any places in particular that we need to go to." She told him. "See if you can find any hints that will lead us to our enemies."

Kodai nodded. With that, he used his powers. His body began to glow a faint purple, a bright aura emitting from him as the Ripple began to appear in front of his eyes. It was time to look into the future. To find any possible leads that would lead him to Ash or any of his enemies.

Kalos. The Nebel Plateau. Afternoon.

Meanwhile, Ash and his friends, including Flurry's Magearna, had finally reunited. Ash had decided that if Magearna was going to run from him in fear due to the part of Prisma within him, he had no other choice but to go and confront the Pokemon. He didn't blame her, knowing the soul of Prisma was residing in him. But that was why he needed to assure Magearna that she was safe, and that he wasn't someone who was going to harm her. Even though Prisma did horrible things in his life.

Ash knew that she'd run away again. That was something that couldn't be helped. So, Ash was the only one to come. Just Ash, without any of his Pokemon. Just to show that he meant her no harm and to ensure that Magearna was alright. She'd probably be running to somewhere familiar. So if that was the case, then Nebel Plateau would be the first place to check.

Sure enough, that's where Magearna went, along with Volcanion. As soon as the duo came into the area, the two Pokemon turned and faced Ash, both with different reactions. Clemont and the others would soon face him.

"Magearna!" She yelped in shock. Magearna was afraid. She was afraid that Ash had come after her. So, she did the only thing she could think to do at this moment. She hid behind Volcanion's back and kept herself out of sight. This caused Volcanion to raise an eyebrow in confusion.

"Hmm...What's all this about?" Volcanion asked. He didn't understand why Magearna was acting so strange. He was confused by her behaviour and the fact that Ash had shown up alone.

"Sorry about that." Volcanion spoke. He didn't like how scared Magearna was, but he couldn't fault her. Not when Ash had a fragment of Prisma's soul in him. That was enough to make her fear him.

"It's alright. I know why." Ash assured him, shaking his head in disappointment. He knew exactly why Magearna ran away from him. It wasn't her fault. She just didn't want to face Prisma. "Man..." Ash sighed.

"Although, it's rather funny to think about." Volcanion chuckled. "The fact that anyone would be afraid of someone like you. As if you could ever be scary and threatening to the whole world!"

"Hey! I could totally be scary if I really put my mind to it!" Ash exclaimed. "Besides, that's why I came all the way out here." Ash stated, before turning to Magearna. He knelt down in front of her, giving the mechanical Pokemon a kind and warm smile.

"Magearna...Please, I know why you're running away. It's because of Prisma, right?"

The Pokemon peeked from behind Volcanion's back, looking up at Ash.

"You have a part of his soul, don't you?"

Ash didn't need an answer, he knew it was true. And he wasn't angry with Magearna for running. He couldn't be. He understood. If he was in her position, he would run too.

"Please. Even if it's for a while, could you trust me?" He assured her, putting his hand out for her to take.

Magearna stared at his hand for a moment, thinking it over. After a few seconds of hesitation, she finally came to a decision. With a small nod of her head, Magearna took Ash's hand and stepped out from behind Volcanion's protection. Raleigh's Magearna spoke to her, ensuring that there was nothing to fear at all.

"Good approach." Volcanion commented. He had faith that Ash would get Magearna to understand. And he was glad to see that his trust wasn't misplaced. "So...What do you want to do now?" Volcanion asked Ash. "Now that we got that out of the way..."

"We will." Flurry agreed. She looked at Magearna and smiled at her. "And you'll love the castle, Magearna! There's so much to explore and see! I'm sure you'll have lots of fun! There are all kinds of things to do, like exploring the royal garden! It's so pretty!" She said happily. "You'll see when we go home, okay?"

"Ma...Magearna..."

Kodai's eyes were closed. Current, he was viewing the future, searching through a variety of possibilities and scenarios. The Ripple was in full view, as Kodai was viewing it through the Ripple. Strident Heart stood beside him, waiting patiently for him to finish his task.

She didn't speak a word, as Kodai had already told her that talking to him during this process would cause a disruption. So, she remained silent, waiting for Kodai to complete his search. It didn't matter how long it took, Strident Heart would wait. After all, she wasn't going to let him go until they found their enemies. She was determined to stop Ash and save the Pokemon world. Even if it meant using an evil man to help her.

As Kodai continued searching through the future, he suddenly opened his eyes. His gaze was fixed upon the Time Ripple as the image changed to one of a specific area. "I've found something..."

"Really? Where? Tell me." Strident asked him. Her voice filled with excitement. This was the information she needed to find the ones who could lead her to her enemies.

"I see something...some sort of train? And a location that's moving?" He spoke aloud. The image before him showed a train. A rather fancy and expensive train that was used by royalty. It looked like it was moving at a fairly high rate of speed. He then looked at a location in particular. "It's going to a forest...a very specific area in Kalos..."

"A train? Be more specific."

"They call themselves the Arcane Institute. They're currently at Kalos and are in pursuit of Ash. They've recently stopped for some sort of break." He answered her.

"So it's them. The Arcane Institute. I should've thought about them. They too wish to reach Ash Ketchum..." Strident Heart uttered, thinking for a moment. This was actually something she could use to her advantage. "I can use this, actually. Before I go, what else do you see?"

"Right now, I see the vision of some kind of conflict. A clash..." He said, as the Ripple continued showing him the events of the near future. "They'll clash with an organization known as One Light. In particular, a member of the organization. Twilight, is the name I hear..."

".So that's it!" Strident Heart realized what this meant. She had to get going right away. There was no time to stand around any longer. "You've done well, Grings Kodai. I will return for more advice if needed

"Alright..." He simply answered.

As Kodai watched the Angel fly away, he let out a small sigh. The thought of a second chance at life, to be given an opportunity to start over, to do better, and be someone else was something that he desperately needed. To be someone that his family would be proud of. Someone that the public wouldn't be able to see him as someone who only cared about himself.

Kodai knew he didn't want to go back to the way things used to be, not after he lost...He wanted to move on and become a different man. He knew that he was capable of doing this. If Strident Heart could help him with this, then that would be great.

Now all he had to do was wait until the Angel returned.

And then his freedom would truly begin.

Kalos. The Nebel Plateau. Late Afternoon.

Ash, Flurry, Magearna and the others were hanging around the Nebel Plateau for the time being, just enjoying themselves. Ash and Flurry had both decided that it was best for them to stick around the plateau a little longer. Both Magearnas were conversing with each other. Raleigh's Magearna was rather pleased to speak to another one of her species, casually conversing. Raleigh's Magearna would be sort of a mentor figure to the newer Magea, deciding to teach the Pokemon a few things.

Bonnie, meanwhile, was playing with Ash's Pokemon, as well as the Pokemon from Nebel Plateau, being the one to play with the Pokemon the most out of the group. She would ride on Dragonite's back and play in the air, as well as with Pikachu.

Harmony spoke to Kimia, explaining what she truly was. Naturally, Kimia was rather confused about five ponies merging as one. This would take a lot of explanation.

But as they were all enjoying themselves, it happened. Ash's Harmony Badge started reacting. The badge began glowing, flashing brightly, as if there was a powerful presence nearby.

"That sound..." He took the badge out of his pocket.

"Pika?"

"Your badge!" Flurry realized. "It's reacting to something!"

"That means...!" Flash Sentry and Ash already knew what that meant. For the badge to finally react, a threat to Ash was approaching. The badge was for that very reason and now, it was finally serving its purpose for the first time.

And they were more than right. Trouble was approaching.

The Arcane Institute.

The massive locomotive that they travelled on, The Magic Rail, appeared before the Nebel Plateau. Its length was as long as five Gyarados put together, its outer exterior brimming with magic. And within, those at the Arcane Institute had tracked Ash down, travelling far just to find him.

Flurry Heart's Magearna hid behind Raleigh's Magearna, already terrified. Ash could already feel what was coming. Just when he was about to take his mind off Prisma, one of the driving forces of his existence had arrived. With Twilight Moonlight sitting in the back of the train, she opened her closed eyes, knowing Ash was near.

Unlike what happened with Ethan, Twilight Moonlight promised herself she would have what it takes. She could not let herself be held back anymore. Even if that means bringing full-on aggression to the Nebel Plateau itself as the journey continues.
