Confrontation and the Thicket

Universe 12. The Arcane Institute.

Due to the efforts of Skyblue Shine and her Umbrage Thieves, they managed to interrupt the machine that held Twilight Sparkle, greatly interfering with its process. Due to this, Twilight Sparkle's magic was rapidly returning to her, her escape from the container inevitable.

Her eyes would glow as a blast of magic would expand from her body, shattering the container and destroying the liquid inside it. She was free, and her power was returning. She landed on the ground, looking at her hooves. "My... My magic. It's returning." Twilight smiled, looking at her body. Then, she looked over at the control panel where Skyblue was standing.

"Thanks, Skyblue..." Twilight thanked, walking over to her. While her magic was back, she needed a moment to breathe.

"You're welcome, Princess." Skyblue said, looking at her. "Let's depart at once." Skyblue said, looking at the workers who were all shocked by what had just happened.

"Y-You! What have you done?!" One of the workers shouted, pointing at Twilight. "All that progress!"

"You won't get away with this! Just so you know, were prepared for situations such as these as well!" Another worker declared, pointing a hoof at Twilight and Skyblue.

"Whatever it is, I refuse to be stopped by it as well." Twilight said, grinning. Then, she used her magic to grab all of the workers. She would throw them into a wall, knocking them out.

They would head towards the others, finding them in the same situation as Twilight. They were all trapped in containers, restrained and powerless. Twilight and Skyblue freed them, and the group quickly made their escape. They ran through the facility, trying to find a way out. Along the way, they encountered some guards who were blocking their path.

But Twilight and the others quickly dispatched of them. The group managed to find the exit, but they weren't safe just yet. This place was massive after all as all the alerts in the Institute went off, and there were a lot of guards waiting for them.

"Twilight. I can send you out of this universe and straight to your friends. They are in Universe 50. That's where you'll find them." Skyblue said, turning to the alicorn.

"You can do that? Then yes! Please, send me to them! I need to see them again and help!" Twilight begged, looking at the alicorn.

"I entered this universe by using a gateway. I managed to stealthily place it out of the institute. You'll find it over at the Millerree Thicket, near a large tree. You can't miss it." Skyblue explained, looking at Twilight. "But be discreet and don't let them see where you ran off to. And of course...your Pokemon"

In her saddlebag, Skyblue Shine took out Twilight's Poke Balls that were confiscated by the Institute. But thanks to the android, they were given back to the Princess of Friendship.

"Got it!" Twilight said, nodding. "Thank you for everything, Skyblue. We'll never forget this."

"You're welcome." Skyblue said, smiling. "Now go, find your friends."

After they smiled at each other, Twilight Sparkle spread her wings, taking flight. She was going to leave this universe, to go find her friends. She didn't know what was waiting for her, but she was determined to reach her friends and ensure them that she was okay.

Twilight made her own exit by charging up a powerful blast of magic, shooting straight through the walls. A gigantic purple beam burst forth fro the Institute, sending shockwaves throughout the city of Mirados. Many citizens in the city were shocked and surprised by this event, not sure what was going on.

Twilight flew off, heading towards the Millerree Thicket. Her eyes were set on the horizon, searching for the gateway that would take her to her friends. She couldn't wait to see them again, to make sure they were safe and sound. She knew she had a mission ahead of her, and she was prepared to face whatever dangers awaited her. She was determined to find her friends, no matter what stood in her way. Twilight Sparkle was on her way, and she would stop at nothing to ensure that her friends were safe and sound.

She had a good idea of where to find her friends. She remembered what Skyblue said to her: the gateway was in the Millerree Thicket, near a large tree. She knew that she had to hurry, so she sped up, flying as fast as she could. Twilight could see the gateway in the distance. It was a large, circular doorway that was glowing with a bright purple light. She could feel the magic coming from the gateway, and she knew that this was the right place.

Skyblue Shine had already adjusted this gateway, making sure that it would go to Universe 50. Being a spy certainly has its advantages. All Twilight had to do was get through and meet up with her friends. But if only it were that simple.

Appearing in front of her with a flash of magic was Silver Swirl. The Unicorn levitated with magic, blocking the gateway to Twilight.

"Silver..." Twilight whispered to herself. Twilight knew she had to be careful, she didn't know what Silver Swirl was capable of. But she was determined to get past her and reach her friends.

Silver Swirl had a serious expression on her face. She stared at Twilight with a cold gaze, not saying a word. She was clearly not happy to see Twilight. Twilight tried to speak, but Silver Swirl interrupted her. She told Twilight that she couldn't go through the gateway, that she was needed in the Institute and that her friends were in danger. Twilight was confused, she didn't know what to believe. Was the Institute really trying to protect her friends?

"Silver... I have to meet them, to see them again. Please, let me pass." Twilight begged.

"I'm sorry, Twilight. But I can't let you do that. I've already sworn to stop Prisma and by extension you." Silver Swirl said, her voice cold and emotionless. Twilight didn't know what to do. She knew that she had to help her friends, but she didn't know if she could trust Silver Swirl or not. She looked at the gateway, and then back at Silver Swirl.

Silver Swirl, despite being more understanding, was still loyal to the Institute and its cause. Twilight knew that she had to get past Silver Swirl in order to reach her friends, and that she had to do it quickly.

"Fine then. In that case...let's have a battle. You and me." Twilight challenged her to a Pokemon Battle, holding out a Poke Ball.

Silver Swirl looked at her, her eyes narrowed. "Very well. Defeat me and you can advance." She accepted.

"Go, Ninetales!" Twilight threw her Poke Ball, and out came her Ninetales.

"Ninetales!"

As for Silver Swirl, from her Poke Ball, a Pokemon that Twilight Sparkle had never seen before had arrived.

"Appear, Houndstone!" She sent out a massive dog-like Pokemon. The Pokemon was made entirely out of bone. The top of its head and its humped back were covered in long, shaggy, whitish-grey fur that is a light purple colour at the base, covering its eyes and its body. Half Bone, Half Fur.

"Houndstone!" It barked. Promptly, Twilight took out her Pokedex for this.

"Houndstone. The Ghost Dog Pokemon. Houndstone spends most of its time sleeping in graveyards. Among all the dog Pokémon, this one is most loyal to its master. A lovingly mourned Pokémon was reborn as Houndstone. It doesn’t like anyone touching the protuberance atop its head."

"I'll at least give you the chance to fight for the opportunity to leave here." Silver Swirl explained. "But I will make sure you lose. I'll do everything in my power to ensure it." Silver Swirl explained.

"I understand.." Twilight said, determined to win. She couldn't afford to lose this battle and she wasn't about to let Silver Swirl stop her from finding her friends.

Twilight was determined to defeat Silver Swirl and make her way through the gateway to Universe 50. All that was standing in her way was Silver Swirl.

"Go, Houndstone! Use Crunch!" Silver Swirl ordered.

"Hound...!" Its fangs would manifest a darkness and it'd rush at Ninetales.

"Ninetales!" Twilight yelled. "Use Fire Blast!"

"Tales! Nine...!" Holding his breath in, he would then release a massive fire blast that'd engulf and overpower Houndstone's Crunch. It was pushed back.

"Use Phantom Force!"

"Stone!" After being pushed back, Houndstone would disappear, heading into another dimension briefly. Ninetales immediately started looking around, knowing how this move works. He just had to anticipate the right moment.

Houndstone reappeared underneath, emerging from that dimension and bashing his body onto Ninetales's underside, launching him up. "Stone!"

"Ninetales!" Twilight called out as Ninetales hurled in the air. "Use Extrasensory!"

"Nine!" While in the air, Ninetales would flash his eyes and create a telekinesis aura around Houndstone, pushing him to the ground and then dragging his body across the grass. Houndstone managed to recover by jumping up, waiting for Silver Swirl's next words.

"Use Roar!"

"HOOOOOUUUUU!" With that, a massive, terrifying and intimidating roar would echo throughout the entire area, shaking the ground. As for Ninetales, his eyes glowed and his body was sucked into his Poke Ball.

"Wha...?!" Twilight watched in surprise, looking at the ball. Instantly, the next Pokemon that was forced out was Togekiss, who was caught off guard by this sudden appearance in the battlefield.

"Toge?!"

"Now, Phantom Force!"

"Houndstone!" Not even a few seconds after Togekiss had appeared, Houndstone went on the offensive, using Phantom Force and disappearing into that alternate dimension. Togekiss looked around frantically, trying to keep her eyes peeled.

"T-Togekiss?!"

Suddenly, Houndstone appeared right from above, going for an aerial attack. But Twilight was ready this time.

"Sky Attack!"

"Kiss!" With a brilliant flash of energy emanating from her body, Togekiss zipped backwards, avoiding the attack. After dodging it, Togekiss would ascend, the golden energy intensifying. She then dived towards Houndstone at breakneck speeds. The attack struck Houndstone's back with incredible force, creating a massive shockwave that rustled the trees.

"Ngh...!" Silver Swirl squinted her eyes as the shockwave blew against her mane and tail. "Quick! Return, Houndstone!" Promptly, Silver Swirl decided to recall her Pokemon, returning Houndstone to his ball, replacing him with a different one. "Go, Gholdengo!"

She threw out her second Poke Ball, releasing her next Pokemon. It was a tall golden Pokemon resembling a stack of coins with a full golden body.

"Gholdengo!"

Twilight used her Pokedex. "Gholdengo, the Coin Entity Pokemon. Its body seems to be made up of 1,000 coins. This Pokémon gets along well with others and is quick to make friends with anybody. Gholdengo overwhelms its enemies by firing coin after coin at them in quick succession."

"Use Thunderbolt, Gholdengo!"

"Ghoooo...!" By putting its hands together, it'd form electricity in the center before firing out a massive Thunderbolt that shot at Togekiss. "Lengo!"

"Togekiss! Use Dazzling Gleam!"

"Toge!" Replying to this attack, Togekiss unleashed a barrage of rainbow rays from her body. The two attacks would collide, causing a huge explosion in the sky.

"Sky Attack!"

"Kiss!" Togekiss flew through the smoke and debris and was able to hit Gholdengo square in the face, causing a massive burst of energy that sent it hurtling backwards, crashing into a tree. Gholdengo was able to recover, quickly getting back onto his feet.

"Now, Gholdengo! Make It Rain!" Silver Swirl commanded.

"Gholdengo!" Coin Entity The Pokemon would jump high up, a few meters off the ground, and put its hands in front of its chest. Suddenly, a massive pile of golden coins would fall out from its chest and onto Togekiss. The Jubilee Pokemon would be pelted and bombarded by a storm of golden coins that'd crash onto the ground. Once the rain of coins stopped, the pile was a few inches high, and Togekiss laid there groaning from the heavy rain.

"G-Ge...!" She groaned as her body twitched.

"Again!"

"Gholden!" Once more, Gholdengo would attempt to bring down a rain of coins. However, Togekiss wasn't having it this time. Her eyes opened and her body would start to emit a strong energy. She broke through the pile of coins and soared into the sky. The golden rain of coins fell, hitting the ground once again but missing their target.

Twilight was amazed. Togekiss was learning how to overcome adversity. She wasn't about to give in to Gholdengo's powerful attack.

"Use Dazzling Gleam!"

"Kiss!" A huge rainbow beam shot from Togekiss' wings, tearing through the grass and breaking through some trees just to reach its target. Now Gholdengo was the one being bombarded by a barrage of powerful beams.

"G-Ghol!" Goldengho cried out, the constant barrage of light rays aggressively striking him. He tried to hold his ground, but he couldn't withstand it. He was knocked back, falling to the ground and lying still in a crater.

"Alright, good work, Togekiss!" Twilight cheered.

"Kiss!"

"It isn't over yet! Gholdengo! Night Shade!"

"Go!" Jumping out of the crater and back on his feet, Gholdengo's eyes would flash and release two black and purple orbs of energy. These orbs would start off slow, but then gain speed.

"Togekiss, dodge it!" Togekiss would do her best, but the two orbs of energy would follow her as they closed in on her.

"TOGE!" They struck her and caused her to cry out, sending her plummeting into the ground. Togekiss' head popped out of the hole that her impact created, dazed and confused, her head swaying side to side.

"T-Toge...!"

"Togekiss!" Twilight yelled in surprise. "Are you okay?"

"Use Power Gem!"

"Gholdengo!" Following up, Gholdengo's body would shine a golden light, and then release several golden beams from the gemstones all over his body. The golden rays came flying towards Togekiss, who wasn't able to recover fast enough from Night Shade's attack. She was hit hard by the beams, being launched backwards. The impact sent a huge cloud of dust and debris in every direction. Togekiss landed a short distance away and was struggling to stand, panting heavily. Her wings were spread wide as if she were preparing for flight.

"Togekiss!"

"Toge..."

"I have to win this...for my friends!" Twilight grit her teeth, refusing to lose here. Her friends wanted to see her safe, so she refused to let them worry too much. Togekiss felt the same way. She refused to have someone dishearten her trainer, so she fought hard for her. If she didn't, it would go against everything Togekiss stands for.

"Sky Attack! Go!"

"Toge...! Togekiss!" Clenching her teeth and putting all of her strength into her wings, Togekiss took off at high speeds, ascending into the air and creating a shockwave from the take-off alone. Her body glowed brightly as the energy surrounded her.

"Gholdengo, Make It Rain!"

"Gholdengo!" Once again, Gholdengo summoned another rain of golden coins that manifested beneath him. He would create a sea of them along with a surfboard out of coins. The sea of coins would rise up into the sky, flying towards Togekiss and following her.

Twilight was able to recognize what Silver Swirl's strategy was. "Is Silver Swirl trying to counter the altitude Togekiss gains from her Sky Attack? She wants to overwhelm her by bringing the sky to Togekiss!"

Togekiss' eyes widened as the golden coin tsunami approached her. But she had enough time to respond to this attack, her eyes narrowing and glowing white. A huge golden shockwave was generated from Togekiss, stopping the golden rain in its tracks. It didn't stop the coins from continuing, however. But it did allow Togekiss the opportunity to dive in, soaring right through the coins and crashing into Gholdengo himself, knocking him off of his surfboard.

"Gholdengo!" he yelled as he was being sent back by Togekiss.

"Gholdengo, no!" Silver Swirl exclaimed.

"Ghollllllden..." Gholdengo crashed right onto the ground, sliding on it as well. He tried to stand, but the impact of Sky Attack was too powerful for him. He fainted. "Gholdengo..."

"Ngh...Return, Gholdengo!" Silver Swirl promptly returned him to his Poké Ball before attaching it back to her belt. "Good work. Take a rest."

"Please, Silver! Let me through! You know in your heart I have to go!"

Silver Swirl looked to the side, pausing for a moment. But after that, she promptly sent out her next Pokemon, continuing the battle.

Universe 20. Mirados.

Hilbert, Nate and Hilda began their own battleback at Mirados. Cornered by so many Pokemon, they were doing their best to power through. Hilbert brought out his Emboar, Nate his Samurott while Hilda had her Serperior out.

Emboar took on an Aggron and Rhyperior, both of whom were giving him trouble. He was barely dodging the attacks from them as he tried to counterattack. Meanwhile, Samurott and Serperior took on a Dragonite and Flygon. Both Water Pokemon were having difficulty against their respective opponents; they could not find any weaknesses or openings in the Pokemon that they were fighting. They were all locked in combat.

The trio of trainers were a great team in general, having experience battling alongside each other for a few years now. But these Pokemon were strong. Even for three trainers and three Pokemon each, they were not going to get away from these battles so easily.

All the while, the many Betas and Zetas stayed expressionless, lacking the same personality as their first versions. But that didn't mean they weren't dangerous. If anything, their emotionless expressions made them more intimidating.

"Why do they all look like Princess Kimia?!" Hilbert said, absolutely confused.

"No idea. We can worry about that later. Right now, we gotta focus on these guys! Has anyone found an opening yet?! Nate questoned.

"I'll make one for us!" Hilda narrowed her eyes. "Serperior, use Frenzy Plant on the ground!" she commanded.

"Sssserperior!" Serperior reared back, and suddenly, several large, thorny vines shot up out of the ground. They were heading for Flygon. He managed to avoid some, but was struck by several and was sent crashing to the ground.

Hilda grinned. "Now you three! Let's go for our Pledges! Serperior, use Grass Pledge!"

"Samurott, Water Pledge!" Nate said, his Pokemon roaring.

"Emboar! Fire Pledge!" Hilbert shouted. Emboar roared in agreement as he threw his arms down, sending a pillar of fire towards Serperior.

All three Pokemon would unleash their respective element in unison, pillars of Fire, Water and Grass surrounding them and their opponents. They began to combine together to form a swirling mass of energy.

Serperior and Samurott focused their attacks on Dragonite, and Emboar unleashed his fiery attack upon the Aggron. Dragonite was caught off guard, unable to move due to the thorns wrapped around his body, while Aggron and Rhyperior braced themselves.

The resulting blast knocked back both Dragonite and Aggron, sending them tumbling backwards. Both Pokémon hit the ground with a thud and were unable to continue. The two Beta's expressions did not change at all, despite the fact that their Pokemon fainted.

A beautiful rainbow formed above them in the sky. Suddenly, several rainbow-colored beams rained from above, each one striking a Pokemon, and they all began to glow. A path had been made for them, but only momentarily. If they wanted to escape, they would have to run immediately.

Taking this chance, the trio and their Pokemon quickly ran past them and continued on their way. The Pokemon quickly recovered from the attacks, however, and resumed their pursuit. They were faster than the three of them, so catching up wouldn't take too long. "Well, that worked for like, two minutes!" Hilbert shouted, looking back. He knew that the three of them would have no choice but to continue running for now, as their Pokemon were too exhausted to fight again.

"Those Pokemon...they didn't even cry out or anything!" Hilda said. "They just...took it! It didn't even feel like they were that responsive either." It was like fighting mindless machines, not actual living creatures.

Nate nodded. "Yeah. They just kind of...stare at us. I'm starting to get really creeped out." Nate shivered, not liking how these people and their Pokemon acted one bit.

"You think they're artificial? Clones, maybe?" Hilbert wondered. It would certainly explain why they were so stale and emotionless.

"Clones? Is that why all those girls looked like Princess Kimia?!" Nate realized. "But how would anyone clone her?" And why?"

Before any of them could get an answer, alas, their attempt to escape them was simply leading to something else. Something that was set up while they had their battle earlier. A trap. From beneath, a magic circle revealed itself, lying in wait until triggered. Once it was stepped on, the trap had sprung, instantly targeting Hilbert and Nate.

A magical dome manifested over the area, trapping the three of them within. They tried to run out, but a barrier had blocked them from going anywhere. "Ghh!" Hilbert grunted, falling over after crashing into the barrier, his Emboar rushing over to him.

"Hilbert! Nate!" Hilda cried out along with Serperior. This entire time, a few Zetas and Betas stayed behind, waiting for the opportunity for the three of them to appear. Soon, they all surrounded Hilda, ensuring that she wouldn't try anything. There were far more than she expected to appear, each surrounding her and the dome. Serperior hissed and snarled at the Zeta's Pokemon.

"An excellent trap." Professor Grogar spoke from the other side, a small machine being held by one of the Zetas. "As annoying as the current situation back here the Institute is, this will make up for that."

"Why you...!" Hilbert got back up, banging his fists against the barrier. "No way I fell for this trap?!"

"I'm aware of how powerful you all are. Even mass numbers isn't a guaranteed victory against the reincarnations of Prisma. Intellect is the superior force here." Professor Grogar continued, the small device being brought closer. "Pleased to meet you two. Hilbert. Nate. I now have two reincarnations for the price of one."

"What's with all these look-alikes?!" Nate questioned. "And who even are you?!!"

"You needn't worry about that right now. Instead, bringing you back is our next goal. I refuse to let this moment slip by." Grogar replied. "I can worry about Ash Ketchum later. Betas. Zetas. A gateway will soon form. Technical difficulties are happening back here, so it won't be swift. Ensure that they do not escape whatsoever. Keep them in that barrier at all costs. We cannot have them leave."

"Yes, sir!" They responded back to him. The girls surrounding Hilda held out their hands, focusing on Hher and Serperior. They had to make sure these two wouldn't do anything to jeopardise the mission. Instead of having their Pokemon attack, the Zetas and Betas would use the magic that existed within them, being the Soul Clones they are. All the while, Professor Grogar watched with interest. The two boys trapped within that dome of energy.

Hilda and Serperior were suddenly struck with flows of magic that would latch onto them like eels, trying to subdue them. Serperior, being the strong Pokemon she was, endured this as she took the hits and kept hissing and glaring at the Zeta and Beta girls, but Hilda wasn't. These eels were digging into her skin, making her cry out. "AGGHHHH!!!" Her legs started shaking as she was slowly being drained.

"HILDA!" Hilbert screamed, trying to smash his fists against the dome.

"Boar! Emb!" Emboar slammed into it, but it wouldn't budge at all. The same happened when Samurott tried it. Grogar chuckled and watched them squirm.

"I would not do that. If the dome shatters, it would certainly hurt you three. I'm not here to injure you. That's the last thing I want. I just need the three of you to stay there."

"Knock it off!" An angered Hilbert kept smashing against the dome, trying to reach his friend, but to no avail. Hilda got on her knees, her body aggressively shaking. Her eyes widened, the pain growing stronger. Serperior was the only one who didn't feel the pain. They weren't trying to drain Serperior. Just Hilda. With her being unable to fight, they could easily take care of her Pokemon, which is why Serperior had to go all-out.

"H-Hilbert..." Hilda groaned as the magic kept flowing. "Hilby....grrk!" Hilbert didn't want to see this happen anymore. Not to one of his best friends. He tried to smash his body into the dome, but nothing would work. Hilda kept screaming in agony.

Hilbert wouldn't stop. His anger was growing. He hated being so powerless like this. He's never felt powerless before. At least, not to this extent. And just like that, unable to handle more, Hilda would suddenly fall unconscious. Upon seeing Hilda fall, her eyes closing as all the Zetas and Betas dropped their hands, it happened.

Just as the Professor was already expecting, the soul within Hilbert was starting to resonate in reaction to this. Seeing his best friend suffer like this and suddenly fall was about to bring him out.

As the journey continues.
