Kingdom Hearts: The World's Reluctant Heroes
Interlude: Declaration of War
Previous ChapterNext ChapterAfter all of the talking, and making sure that her father and sister had their own rooms since it seemed like they were going to be sticking around for the foreseeable future, Sombra focused on making sure that the newcomers were integrated into what they were going, giving the realm a lot more people to support. It was just about what Sombra expected, her father was letting them do what they wanted, just as he usually did, though Nebula join some of the training sessions so he could see what they were doing and also joined in, using a dark scimitar as he clashed with Radiant. She was impressed by how well Radiant had improved, as once upon a time she had been terrified of the Umbrum, frightened of what they could do while trying to make the most of her time in the dark realm Sombra had called home, but now she was a fierce fighter, capable of standing up to them. Even Fluttershy, who had started as a coward, was standing up to them as she trained with those that wanted to learn about the Keyblades and other weapons, and they were quite fascinated by the Nobodies and their various powers, which Umbra echoed as she studied and observed them.
Sombra knew that facing the various Heartless and Nobodies had strengthened all of them in some way and made them stronger in the end, meaning they would be ready for whatever the future held in store for them and she was afraid they were going to need it, because as the hours turned into a day she realized that Tenebris wasn't coming, causing her to wait a few more days before calling the others to the area they had talked in earlier.
"The First Prince isn't coming... and I think I know why." Sombra stated, as part of her wanted to be wrong, she didn't want her brother to be allied with their enemy, but that was the only thing that made sense, as she had felt his dark energy at work several times, coming from different parts of the World to keep her from tracking him down, "Father, you said that he was searching for an 'ancient source of temporal magic', right? Well, as far as I know there are only two people that could fit that description: Merlin, whose an ally and certainly would have told us if Tenebris had approached him... or Xehanort, as he was an expert of time magic in his younger years."
"And he's the one that your brother went to visit." Sora said, because he had spent enough time listening to Sombra to know that something was up, and right now he knew something bad was happening, because when she mentioned her brother it sounded like there might be more to the story that they haven't been told yet, "How bad is he?"
"Tenebris is a master of Dark Magic, just like Sombra and Umbra, along with Time and Gravity Magic... he's not someone you can take lightly." Nebula remarked, where he sipped on his own drink for a moment as he considered what this meant, as he had been interested in seeing how his son and his transformed son would have reacted to each other, but now it seemed like war was coming to the World, "As you know Umbra didn't care about conquest and focused her attention on learning what she could about magic, while Sombra had the ambition to actually take over the Crystal Empire before being beaten in the end... Tenebris harbored no such desire. No, his focus was always on power, what he could gain and how he could gain it, and he saw Equestria, plus the rest of Equus, as nothing more than a place for him to steal power, as all his plans involved beating the Solar and Lunar Princesses and stripping them of their magic. With access to all sorts of magic, and all sorts of new powers to learn about, Tenebris likely went for the one person who could give him what he wanted, while potentially hiding something he would absolutely desire."
"Such as the power of the true Kingdom Hearts?" Prexus asked, because he had chosen to remain with the group after he saw what Sombra had done for the Nobodies, even though he refused to lower his hood, and it seemed like the best idea since there was a player on the board that none of them could have prepared for, "A fragment of Creation, said to contain vast power and vast amounts of magical energy... would he go for such a thing?"
"Without a doubt. That much power, and possibly the power to become a literal god, would be too tempting for him." Umbra said, though she looked down at the table as she thought about it, because she knew this was bad, the World was full of all sorts of things that her brother would want to obtain, powers to make him a monster, more than he already was, and part of her was filled with dread by just simply thinking of what Tenebris could do with a year or two, "If he's sided with Xehanort, you can bet he'll make the alliance known..."
Umbra cut herself off as she, Sombra, and Nebula sensed a surge of dark energy as a crack appeared above the table, one that opened like an eye until a circular mirror floated in front of them, before it spun around and formed an orb that allowed all of them to see the same thing, despite it being from different angles. What they discovered was that it was none other than Xehanort standing in front of the mirror or sphere that was on his side of the magic, though at the same time Sombra and the others discovered that he wasn't alone, as Xigbar was standing nearby, looking nervous and unsure of what was going on right now. After that she discovered two things that screamed that things were wrong, the first being that a younger version of Xehanort was standing there and he was joined by a copy of Riku when Sairaine had took possession of him, and there were a number of black robed figures behind them, a new Organization. This meant that someone had just undone all of their hard work to dismantle the Organization, though it looked like there were more than thirteen individuals, and that was counting the present Xehanort, and Sombra was sure there were at least twenty of them, but without Replicas this meant her brother must have broken time.
That brought her to the second thing that told her something was wrong, as her brother was definitely standing next to the Present Xehanort and Tenebris' power was definitely stronger than she remembered it being, in fact she might be the only one that could bring him down now.
"Greetings, Guardians of Light. I am Master Xehanort, and I am here to declare war on all of you." Xehanort stated, which was what he had been planning from the beginning, thirteen Seekers of Darkness and seven Guardians of Light, as that was what Xemnas had told them after he recalled the information, no doubt to reforge the X-Blade and claim Kingdom Hearts, which Mickey added, but it seemed like Tenebris' presence had boosted his confidence, "In one year, on the anniversary of the last Keyblade War, we will gather on the Keyblade Graveyard and do battle on the ancient battlefield, where we shall forge the X-Blade and bring an end to this long conflict."
"I wouldn't if I were you, Xehanort. Breaking the laws of time will have serious consequences." Sombra remarked, because it was the only way for the figure to have a force at the ready, even if he was giving them one year to prepare, why she had no idea and honestly she didn't care, all while noticing that Xigbar was looking at Prexus with confusion on his face, which was very interesting in her eyes, before she turned her head, "Brother, you have to..."
"So, this is what you've become... I must say, I'm disappointed in you, brother." Tenebris said, stepping forward as the dark robed figures started to head out, no doubt to start their preparations for the war that Xehanort wanted to have, while she focused on her brother, as he was an important threat that she had to keep an eye on, "I heard that you had the chance to obtain two different Kingdom Hearts... falsehoods, sure, but still packing power... and you gave them up, scattering all that power in the blink of an eye. You are weak, Sombra, and are hardly worth my time... so train, gather all the power you can, and in one year I will break you, shatter your pitiful Keyblades, and offer your heart to Kingdom Hearts, not to mention the hearts of your pitiful and weak companions. Father, sister, I offer you and our people one chance to join us, and on the day of the battle you will make your chosen known to everyone... stay with Sombra and I will sacrifice you without hesitation, or join me and forge the X-Blade."
"What sort of brother are you?" Sora stated, as he couldn't believe what he was hearing right now, as Tenebris seemed like the insane one of the three siblings, like he was born without emotions or something, and the fact that he was willing to sacrifice his family, and all of his people, meant he was the worst of the worst.
"Quiet, worm." Tenebris replied, where he held his hand out and Sora was lifted into the air, like he was being grabbed by an invisible hand while his neck was slowly being crushed, though as Sombra readied his magic Tenebris relaxed his hand and the boy dropped into his chair, huffing as he rubbed his now bruised neck, "You are lucky that the old man wants you for the Keyblade War, said something about you being special... personally, I'm not seeing it... otherwise I would have torn out your heart here and now. As for the rest of you, I'm looking forward to you struggling against your fate... try to put up a good fight, will you?"
As Kairi tended to Sora's neck, however, Tenebris laughed as the connection was terminated, though this had confirmed her worst fears, her brother was still totally unhinged and had sided with Xehanort, meaning there was no telling what he would do with the powers of the World.
"Pardon me for saying so, but... Sombra, your brother is completely insane. And I don't mean Pinkie insane, I mean actually insane." Fluttershy said, as she actually liked Nebula and Umbra, they were interesting, weren't as bad as she had thought they would be, and were actually nothing like the horrible Umbrum she had heard about, but Tenebris was on the other side of the spectrum, an embodiment of the darkest aspects of Sombra's people.
"You're telling me." Sombra remarked, though she sighed as she leaned back in her chair for a moment, because this wasn't a good development for them, not when her brother seemed willing to break the laws of the World to get what he wanted, before he noticed that Prexus was getting up to leave, "Prexus? Is everything alright?"
"I need to go check my information on something, should only take a day or two, but then I'll be back... and then we can talk about the Runeblade." Prexus said, though as he turned to leave he paused for a moment, clearly debating how much he should say since there were so many people in the room, before turning to look at Sombra for a few seconds, because he was on their side and they needed all the help they could get, "It's... well, the counter to the X-Blade, a weapon forgotten by nearly everyone, except for me and the World. If they're planning a war, and both sides have more than the number needed to forge the X-Blade, we're going to need it."
Sombra nodded her head as she straightened herself, allowing Prexus to leave to do whatever he needed to do, before she told everyone to prepare themselves for the training of their lives, because if it was a war their enemies wanted it was a war they were going to get, and she was going to do everything in her power to make sure they won, causing them to look forward to what the future held for them and the World.
