Kingdom Hearts: The World's Reluctant Heroes
War: Monsters and Emotions
Previous ChapterNext ChapterWith the danger in Rapunzel's world dealt with Sora and the others returned to the Gummi Ship and set off for another portion of space, following the guidance of the World since it was directing them to the worlds that Tenebris' dark forces were interested in, either for their own reasons or because it would help him out. As it turned out the path brought them into a new portion of space that none of them had been in before, so the first thing Sora did was track down the closest of the Warp Stations, so they could warp back to Twilight Town if they wanted to do so, and they might since Sombra had a lot of ideas to share with the little rat chef. The best thing for Sora was that the Heartless Gummies that were in this portion of space were definitely stronger than the ones he had faced off against while they were moving between the last couple of worlds, even though Sombra and everyone else knew he'd beat them anyway. It was actually amazing how he had started as a newbie when it came to using the Gummi Ship and was now one of the best pilots around, allowing him to cut through all of the enemy ships while the systems collected the excess materials.
Just like before there were areas for him to loot, gems to smash for their components, and enemies to fight, some no doubt guarding the worlds that happened to be in this area, where the Heartless Gummi that was blocking the way to the first world, one that appeared to be a factory with doors, seemed to be a shark shaped ship. Not only did this foe fire off blasts at them, like all of the other enemy Gummies, it also deployed round attack orbs that created energy blades to attack their ship with, all of which Sora tore through with the weapons that were at his disposal. It's only other attacks were to turn invisible or to try and bite through them so it could destroy their ship, but Sora was ready and waiting for whatever tricks it had, to the point where he was able to bring it down in no time at all. Sombra nodded as the others cheered, while at the same time she snatched the ship's heart to make sure it was put to good use, allowing the darkness around the new world to disperse so Sora could land and let them see what this one had in store for them.
As they approached the world, however, Sombra felt something off about it, as she was sure that it held the presence of one of Tenebris' allies, but there was something else that seemed oddly familiar as Sora brought them to a stop in the space just outside the world's border.
"Guys, be sure to keep your guards up... there's something about this world that's oddly familiar, I just can't tell what it might be." Sombra commented, all while noticing that the system for integrating them into the type of people that inhabited this world was active, meaning they would be assuming new forms when they went down to this world, meaning it was going to be far more exciting than what she and the others might have assumed after they looked at it.
Sora nodded as he warped everyone down to the world's surface, only to find that they were placed outside the factory that was part of the design they could see while flying through space, where he found that he took on a bestial form with gray furred skin with black stripes, his pants and shoes were gone, and he had a small canine tail. Donald was mostly the same as his normal form, but he had a single eye, two small like fangs on his beak, his tail was now a small lavender spike and he had a pair of small leathery bat wings on his back. Goofy was much like Donald, in that his overall form looked the same, though he had aqua-green skin with black spots, his forearms and calves were elongated and larger than the rest of his arms and legs, his ears were gone despite the fact that he could still hear them, and he had heterochromia as his right was blue and his left was red. Fluttershy and Seras were shorter than normal, in fact they were about half their normal sizes and were now red skinned individuals, with black horns on their heads that had thin white strips at certain intervals, imps Sombra guessed, and they were nearly identical, since they were technically twins, Fluttershy having pink hair and Seras having red.
Radiant found that her new form seemed to be that of a centaur, though it was more like a spider, because she had all eight legs of a spider and the lower body of one, hence why she thought of herself as more of a 'centaur' in a sense, though this was their first time encountering such a creature. Radiant also found that the new spider body seemed to possess her own colors as well, making it look like she was naturally born in this body, though her upper body was still human, or still that of an anthro pony, which was just odd as she moved her new limbs around. Sombra, on the other hand, found that she was far different than she could have imagined, as while her form still resembled a human, to a degree, she noticed her fingers were red claws, but then the area from her palms to her elbows were pure darkness, in fact the same was true for her feet, she had three toed clawed feet and a small odd heel, all four red colored, while the darkness on her legs stopped just above her knees. The upper parts of her arms and legs, plus her main body, were actually a crystalline blue and seemed to be furred, plus they had intricate golden tattoos that seemed to be her light side, showing the unity between her light and darkness, all while her head appeared to be somewhat human with pointed ears and her curved horn was still in place.
She even discovered that she had a scaly tail in place of her normal tail, like a dragon's and colored like her hands and feet, red at the bladed tip before moving into the portion of darkness that rested between that and the crystalline blue of her main body, and just like everyone else she had to stretch her body and get used to it, even though some of them were slightly freaked out by how the others looked.
"We're... monsters?! This is so weird." Sora commented, though he was happy to see that even Donald was surprised, despite the fact that he knew of the magic that did this to each of them, causing him to look at the factory that appeared to be their main destination for the duration of their stay in this world, which had a motto going 'We scare because we care', "And yet I'm excited for what this world might have to offer us... does that make any sense?"
"Yes, because everyone feels the same." Radiant remarked, where she and the others entered the facility, allowing them to see that there was a short round green skinned figure with a single eye, a large furry figure that seemed like a beast of some kind, and a little kid in a pink outfit that seemed to be having fun right now.
As it turned out the kid seemed to notice them first and the green monster seemed worried about the group seeing the kid in their possession, not that the blue beast seemed to mind, and the kid pointed at Donald while saying 'Mike Wazowski', a fact that annoyed the green monster. Mike seemed to think that they would raise the alarm and indicated that it was some sort of code, but since none of them were scared of humans the blue one, Sully, was more than willing to talk with them and they told the pair their names. Such a thing allowed them to see that the little girl, a toddler based on what they could see, really preferred to call Donald by Mike's name, before she cowered behind Sully for a moment and pointed at something that was behind the group. Such a thing caused them to glance back and quickly discovered a number of small black critters that could have passed for Shadows if they were rounded, and they had dark blue tips on their heads, before noticing that there was a massive toad shaped creature entering the large lobby area as well.
Fortunately the massive toad had an emblem on it that didn't match the one that belonged to the Heartless, nor did it match the one that belonged to the Nobodies, rather it was a heart of sorts that expressed emotions, which was all Sombra needed to realize who was in front of them.
"No way... Unversed?! Here, of all places?" Sombra remarked, as this wasn't something even she was expecting, and yet she had a smile on her face as she noticed the emotional creatures, because if they were back, in full force, then that told her one simple fact, Vanitas was back and she realized that he was here, on this world, "Of course... it all makes sense."
Sora had no idea what Sombra had figured out and knew that it would have to wait for the time being as she engaged their new foes, as Goofy and Donald had only heard of the Unversed from their King, the smaller 'Floods' and the larger 'Spiked Turtletoad', the former much like the Shadows and the latter like the Large Bodies. This was due to how both moved and how the group had to deal with them, as the Floods were fast, like lightning, and the Spiked Turtletoad was slow but had a hard shell that allowed it to tank attacks like they were nothing. The group also found that Sully and Mike were eager to help them out, their claws and hands knocking the Unversed back into the attacks of the others, which was nice to see, though Boo, the toddler, was hiding while they engaged the enemies that had appeared out of thin air. Even with their new bodies it took them no time to bring down the Unversed, where Sombra noted that they, too, didn't release hearts, which made sense due to the fact that they were just emotions given life, but this left the smile on her face.
When the battle was completed their new friends moved to tend to Boo, to make sure she was fine, where Sombra found that her friends walked over to her for a moment, no doubt to ask some questions before they got started on helping the pair of monsters with whatever they might need help with.
"So... Unversed... does that mean what I think it means?" Sora asked, because Ventus and the others had talked a lot about their big adventure that had caused one of them to end up in the Realm of Darkness, one had his heart fractured so his body could be stolen, and the third had been put to sleep because his heart had been pushed out of his body, so they knew about the various types of Unversed from the tale, and the one controlling them.
"It does. Vanitas, he's here... though in what emotional state, I cannot say." Sombra replied, as Vanitas was known for being a dark being who relished in being evil, even though it was all for Xehanort's sake, but after collecting all of his light fragments, the pieces of his heart that had been ripped from him to force him to walk on darkness' side, Sombra realized that there was more to Vanitas than one could possibly know, "What I know is that he's here, somewhere, and we'll have to deal with him at some point... I'd like to restore his heart, if at all possible."
Radiant smiled as she heard that, because it just showed her that Sombra was a new person, caring about others, especially villains who had no choice but to follow this path, and it made her happy that they were brought to this portion of the World so they could see Sombra change like this. While she thought about that the group agreed to help Sully and Mike get Boo back to her home world, which meant tracking down her door and sending her back through it, because once upon a time the monsters had scared children and traveled to their world using closet doors. It was interesting to see, which meant they were more like boogeymen, though Mike insisted that they were done using 'scream power', rather they had discovered that laughter was far more potent than scream could ever be, meaning they had an even better way to provide power to the rest of the city. The interesting thing was that there were also Unversed emerging from some of the closet doors that were set up in stands to keep them upright, and standing in front of them was a black robed figure with a black helmet, like a mask of some kind with black glass at the front portion of it.
"No, stop... don't go in there! Why... Why are the Unversed ignoring me?" the figure said, where it looked like he was trying to stop the emotional creatures from doing more harm than what they were currently doing, and was failing by the looks of it, though the moment he noticed them standing there he freaked out and vanished through a Dark Corridor.
"Oh, that's not good... Vanitas, he's... his heart is scattered." Sombra remarked, in fact she was sure of it, the remaining bits of Vanitas' heart were on this world, given physical forms by the looks of it thanks to the presence of the Unversed, though she suspected that there was a 'Dark Vanitas', one from Tenebris' tampering with time, somewhere on this world, no doubt the true master of the Unversed, hence the fragment's mention of them not paying attention to him.
Sora had learned to trust Sombra's thoughts over the years and trusted that she knew what she was talking about, though at the same time this discovery made him wonder what was going to happen as they aided Sully and Mike in getting Boo back home, as it seemed like they were in for a wild ride this time around and he hoped that they were ready for whatever else this world had to offer them.
