Kingdom Hearts: The World's Reluctant Heroes
War: Icy World
Previous ChapterNext ChapterAs they returned to their ship Sombra found that her thoughts were right, Vanitas was a mess emotionally, which wasn't a surprise since his heart had been restored, he now knew that Xehanort was behind his suffering, and Young Xehanort had just tossed him to the side like he was a worthless toy or something. They discovered that since he was influenced by Sora, which was why he looked nearly identical to the boy, Vanitas' attire shifted into a red and black version of Sora's attire, like the colors had been inverted for some odd reason, but this meant they might need to get him his own attire soon. For the time being he seemed fine with what he had, and he could still summon his Keyblade, so it wasn't like Sombra had crippled him or anything, but he required time and that was what the group was offering him. While they did that Sora took them out into space once more and resumed what he usually did when he traveled between the worlds, which was tearing through the Heartless Gummies, collecting resources, or just having some fun.
The part of space that they moved through happened to be where they found a number of massive ice fragments floating in their way, so Sora had to navigate around them so he didn't damage the ship, where he found a large chunk of space ice that shattered upon him approaching it. What they discovered was that there was a large Heartless Gummi, a fortress, waiting under the ice and attacked their ship as soon as all of the ice that had been covering it was gone, causing Sora to move into a defensive stance as he engaged the Glacial Fortress. Based on what Sora was seeing the outer wall was his current target, he had to break the large ice crystals that were used to divide a beam of energy into six pieces, cutting into the area that he could use to dodge through, but it only made him smile as he navigated through the danger and fired at the crystals. There were a number of smaller Heartless Gummies that joined the fight as well, a difference between the guardians of the other worlds and this one, but Sora was fine with that as he destroyed both the crystals and their enemies.
Sombra made sure to snatch the freed hearts as Sora tore down their enemies, and when the wall fell Sora fired on the main ship without delay, destroying all of the outermost guardians and the laser docks that were part of the fortress, and when he found the main core, at the top of the main tower, the entire Glacial Fortress shattered, allowing Sombra to claim another heart as they focused on the world that was ahead of them.
"I have to admit, that one was more interesting than I thought. Certainly had more health than some of the other enemies I've fought in space." Sora commented, though at the same time he looked at the screen that was in front of him and found that the world that was in front of them was a world of frost, snow, and ice, while the systems indicated that there was no magic they had to worry about, no new world forms to take, causing him to bring the ship to a stall before glancing back at the group, "Vanitas, do you want to come with us, or do you want to sit this out? I know you're still thinking about what just happened, but fighting and directing your emotions can be a good thing... I'm not going to force you, if you don't want to join us. It's entirely up to you."
"No, fighting might calm me down." Vanitas said, where he looked up at the group and wondered how he'd fit in with them, he was just another Keyblade wielder at the end of the day, a strong one at that, but decided that another pair of eyes would be good since they had no idea what sort of dangers would be waiting for them this time around.
Sora nodded as he warped all of them down to the world's surface, where he found that it was a cold and snowy place, just like what the visage they saw in space looked like, and while he was cold for a time, like a few of the others were, he found that Sombra and Radiant were just fine.
"What? We grew up in the Frozen North, even if we were inside the Crystal Empire's barrier most of the time, and this cold is just like home to us." Radiant remarked, though she had to admit that this felt nice, it was just like home, a comfort she had been missing, and the same was true for Sombra, making her hope that they could return home once all of this was said and done, before noticing that the sea nearby was turning to ice.
The cause of this happened to be a white haired girl, a princess based on her tiara and the elegant nature of her dress, even if she had a purple cape and one of her hands had a glove over it, though she was running on the water and her footsteps were leaving the area around her steps frozen. It was a makeshift bridge, but it was painfully obvious that she had no control over her power and that power was now eating away at the entire area around where she had walked, freezing both the rest of the water and everything that was around it, like the ships near the city. Sombra glanced at the others for a moment, who nodded before following after the girl, because her power was wild and out of control, meaning there was no telling what sort of damage she could do, and with Sombra there Sora knew that they could lend the princess some aid. Sure enough it wasn't long before they found some Heartless getting in their way, more Soldiers with a number of the Parasol Beauties, the latter being a more annoying type, but that didn't stop them from attacking them, where Vanitas rushed behind them and struck the Heartless with his gear-like Keyblade.
Of course there were some water Nocturnes and a few Flutterings as well, but the group barely worried about them as they tore through their enemies, before they discovered another new type of Heartless, a deer shaped type that seemed to be made from frost, 'Winterhorns' as Fluttershy called them.
"Wait, so you guys name all of the enemies you take down?" Vanitas asked, as that seemed odd to him, though he reflected on it and realized he must have done the same thing when he named the various Unversed that had come from his cracked and broken heart, even if he didn't remember doing such a thing.
"Helps us keep track of them." Seras remarked, where she moved through the air and struck down the new enemies that were in the middle of a jump, while at the same time the rest of the group engaged the others, taking all of them down in a short period of time, which just showed Vanitas how skilled they were.
An interesting thing they had to do this time around was run up some of the flat stone walls in order to move forward, just like they practiced before this adventure had started, and Vanitas studied them for a few moments before doing the same, as he wasn't about to be left behind on his first world visit with them. Sombra smiled as she looked back at him and Sora, as while the pair weren't actually brothers, since Sora was an only child, the two were acting as if they were actual brothers as they climbed the mountain, one casual and one serious. It was like Vanitas was the serious older brother all of a sudden while Sora was the more carefree and freely casual brother, and while it was clear that Vanitas wasn't fully comfortable with everything, he still required time to come to terms with everything, it did seem like a part of him enjoyed the idea that he was actually traveling and working with one of his 'siblings'. Such a thing made her wonder how he would take to working with both Ventus and Roxas, the other two that were part of the group, but she knew that was something they would have to worry about later as she focused on what the rest of the path held in store for them.
Eventually they caught up with the princess, who was huffing as she walked through the snow as well, because it looked like she had taken an entirely different path to reach this point, which was possible since this was a mountain they were in the middle of climbing, and, of course, she was surprised by their presence.
"Who are you people? Where did you come from? And why are you here?" the princess asked, though at the same time it was far too easy for the Equestrians to see that she was nervous and shy, but also in a way that made it clear that she had something she was trying to hide, which Sombra and the others of her kind realized had to be the icy power they had seen after arriving on this world.
"I'm Sora, this is my brother Vanitas, and these are our friends." Sora replied, without even missing a beat, something that caused Sombra to mentally smile for a moment, he had certainly come out of his shell after talking to so many different types of people, and now he was taking charge like a leader, or at least a courageous hero, "We're actually from an island that's much warmer than this... and the reason we're climbing this mountain is because we were worried about you, since there are Heartless wandering around."
"Honestly, it's not safe out here... especially for a princess like yourself." Vanitas added, because it didn't look like she had any other powers or combat abilities, and she certainly didn't have a weapon, so that meant she was in danger if a group of Heartless decided to suddenly attack her, so they had to get her somewhere safe he reckoned.
"Princess? No, I am Queen Elsa, of Arendelle." the woman stated, which caused most of the group to stand there for a few seconds before saluting her, mostly because it was what had to be done, though at the same time Sombra knew that she must have been newly crowned and was currently running away from said crown, meaning she was more like an exile and would be a queen of nothing, but decided not to mention that.
As it turned out they didn't have that much time to talk about something else as more Winterhorns attacked, where Sora and the others got a glimpse of Elsa's power, she was able to wave her hand and ice followed, piercing the new Heartless in their chests and freeing their hearts, which Sombra snatched. When one of the Rock Trolls showed up, however, the group engaged the Heartless and let Elsa flee, where they lashed out with their powers and skills once more, taking care of the rest of the Winterhorns first since their speed was more annoying to deal with. Once those foes were dealt with, and they were sure there were no more to deal with, the group turned on the Rock Troll and dodged it's attacks, slashing and blasting at it's arms and legs while they did so, though at the same time Sombra noted that Elsa was definitely fleeing, she had created a large wall of ice and was on her way to the summit. It was clear that she didn't want them following her at all, even if they had good intentions, meaning she was scared of everyone, but for the time being she focused on their foe and brought it down with ease, causing the group to turn towards the ice wall for a moment.
In the next instant they found that a Dark Corridor opened and discovered that another familiar face stepped out of it, for it was Larxene, only she was wearing the black coat that meant she was 'Dark' Larxene, one of Tenebris' allies, though that was followed by them focusing on her for a time.
"Dark Larxene... let me guess, you're here to spy on Elsa?" Seras asked, though this was sad, because she was friends with the version of the woman that was in front of them, but it just confirmed how twisted Tenebris was that he had created so many dark and twisted timelines, yanking their dark warriors out to fill out his own ranks.
"Good guess. Honestly, since we don't need the seven lights anymore, thanks to the change in our plan, I'm just killing time before the war starts." Dark Larxene replied, where she sounded impressed that they had guessed her motives so quickly, but at the same time it didn't seem like she overly cared about but she did raise her hand as lightning crackled around her fingers, which she used to shatter the ice wall, "Though to be honest, while ice isn't my forte, I need to do something to all of you to make sure you don't ruin the show too soon... so here, have fun in an icy prison."
Sombra found that their foe was infusing the ice with darkness, creating a sphere around them that moved them into some sort of pocket dimension, which happened to be a large fortress made of ice, which just told her that Tenebris' allies were getting far stronger if they were able to do things like this.
"She's definitely more skilled than I thought she'd be." Radiant remarked, though the ice fortress seemed to be on par with the designs of the Crystal Empire, which was a shame since it was all ice and darkness, but it did mean Dark Larxene had good taste in interior decoration, even if it meant her ability to manipulate other elements was quite good as well.
"Yes, but she's given us a good place to fight our way out of." Sombra stated, where she and the others noticed that there were a number of Heartless in front of them, along with the Ninja Nobodies that were Dark Larxene's, only darker than their original counterparts, causing the group to summon their weapons as they faced their enemies, "Let's have some fun before we catch up with Elsa."
Sora, Vanitas, and the others nodded their heads as they rushed out and clashed with their enemies, though at the same time she found herself wondering what other obstacles this world might throw at them and what they would discover in the near future, making her smile as she focused on the here and now, leaving the other stuff for when they got out of this icy prison.
