Cadance was in Pharynx's room as usual, socializing with all the other mares he had taken as wives. It had come as quite a surprise to the princess of love when she discovered that, not only did she have to marry Pharynx for the sake of peace but that marriage under changeling law essentially reduced any woman, no matter how strong and independent, to being soft, mild-mannered and girlishly affectionate despite the knowledge that they had pledged servitude to sexually pleasing their new master and husband while acting as eye candy the rest of the time.
Though there were moments like this, when Pharynx wasn't in the room on account of being summoned by Queen Chrysalis or having to go on guard duty, that the girls all got a little down time to eat, drink and just chat in the hive's little pocket of paradise. Cadance was talking with Luna and chuckled as she said "I have to say that with all the things I've seen, the thing I didn't expect to see when I first got here was you! Chrysalis and her security team were making their way to Ponyville, the changelings had been going from kingdom to kingdom all over the world in attempts to build rapport with pony royalty and set up simple trades as a peace offering so that there could be further talks of friendship and alliances, not to mention spread the message that, while the changelings still needed to consume love, they were ready, willing and encouraging the chance for ponies to give that love voluntarily through friendship. They'd already had decent success with Trottingham, Maretonia and Saddle Arabia.
On their way to Ponyville, Chrysalis gave the order that they would be stopping off in the city of Canterlot on a temporary basis so that they could rest and make preparations for the peace talks in Ponyville. As they stopped off in Canterlot, Chrysalis summoned her head of security, Pharynx and said very matter-of-factly "Pharynx, I understand that we are here in the city for rest but I'm afraid that our stay here comes at a small price. You see, ponies don't trust us at the moment and for this reason, all of us will be adopting a more... acceptable guise that ponies in this city will feel more comfortable with. However this does not include you at this moment"
Pharynx raised an eyebrow and asked "Will I be required to stay here and guard our means of transport your majesty?"
Chrysalis shook her head and said "No, you are remaining in your changeling form as a sign of good will, before entering the city I asked the princesses if there was anything I could do that would help prove that I came in peace. As luck would have it, there is a somewhat famous pony here in Canterlot, a celebrity if you will, who is doing a bit of modelling for a photo shoot but hasn't the funds to hire a suitable body guard. This is the job that I am entrusting to you as a sign that our stay here is of no threat to the populace, the studio that she is modelling in is right inside this building we have stopped at, her name is Fleur De Lis. I'm relying on you Pharynx"
Pharynx bowed and said "As you wish your majesty" and began making his way inside the building, noticing that his brother Thorax had taken quite an interest in all of the fashion and tailoring shops along the street of Saddle Row. Pharynx wasn't sure what a model was and he had also never really observed ponies up close, the only time he even saw ponies at all was during the attempted take-over of Canterlot and even then he hadn't taken the time to stop and look at them as something other than a being to be conquered and feasted upon. He walked up to the reception desk, feeling somewhat out of place in his heavy changeling guard body armor and waited for the pony at the desk to notice him.
Thirty seconds passed when the receptionist glanced up from her computer. Upon seeing Pharynx, her eyes went wider than the glasses she was wearing and she jumped back in fear and shrieked" AHH! CHANGELING!!! WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME?!?!"
Pharynx remained calm and said in as friendly a tone as he could muster "Could you please tell me in which room and on which floor I might find a miss Fleur De Lis please?"
The receptionist ducked under her desk before saying "What... w-w-what are you going to do to her?!"
Pharynx simply stated "It is my sworn duty to protect her and ensure her safety, even at the cost of my own life if necessary"
The receptionist popped her head up from under the desk, still shaking nervously and asking "Really? How... how d-do I know your not l-l-lying?"
Pharynx went "I'm afraid the truth of the matter is that you are going to have to trust me, which I understand is difficult considering that I am a changeling. I trust that, should I attempt anything that you, Fleur De Lis or her camera crew would consider to be a dangerous or malicious act, you are able to contact the royal guard or the princesses in order to stop me. With that information in mind, I would greatly appreciate it if you could provide me with the information I asked for"
The receptionist couldn't fault Pharynx on his logic and though she remained hidden, she said "Floor six... room n-number s-s-sixteen..."
"Thank you" said Pharynx as he entered the elevator and pressed the button for floor six. It was a shame that the receptionist was so scared of him, he hadn't looked at ponies much but the things that he did see in a non-violent setting he liked, pony females had a certain allure about them, to him at least anyway and though he had only caught a glimpse of her, he had to admit that the receptionist was kind of cute in her own way. If "regular ponies" were what he found attractive he could only imagine what kind of effect a pony who had made a career out of looking good would have on him.
The elevator stopped at floor three and the doors opened to let a pony in, a young stallion who looked to be a courier of some kind. It wasn't until he had entered the elevator, pressed the button for floor eight and allowed the door to close, that he noticed he was sharing the elevator with Pharynx. The stallion immediately started screaming in terror in the presence of a changeling, frantically pushing every button in the elevator in some kind of attempt to escape. Pharynx remained stoic and still, having gotten used to this kind of reaction while stationed in other kingdoms while Chrysalis did peace talks. When the elevator opened the doors on floor four, the courier ran out of the elevator, still screaming, having apparently decided to take the stairs instead.
Pharynx waited patiently and exited the elevator on floor six before walking down the corridor to room sixteen. When he walked through the door he saw a room that was mostly empty except for some lights, one or two guys taking photographs from different angles and Fleur De Lis striking different poses in front of a green screen. When Pharynx saw Fleur De Lis, he was struck by her beauty, she was irrefutably fair with sparkling eyes and pink hair, the light blue bikini she was wearing suited her decently enough and the poses she adopted for the camera were a perfect mixture of modest yet suggestive. As one of the camera guys turned to refill his roll of film, he spied Pharynx and gasped shortly before simply shouting "CHANGELING!!!"
As everyone in the room flinched, Pharynx quickly tried to stop everyone from immediately moving to run away or attack him as he said "Please, there is no need for alarm. I am here under orders to act as Fleur De Lis' personal body guard for the day, I mean you no harm and as you can see, I have remained in my changeling form as a symbol of my non-threatening presence. Were I truly here to act in an untoward fashion, I would have adopted the guise of a pony, I promise that you can trust me"
The two camera guys remained vigilant, though Fleur De Lis relaxed and when she saw that her two camera guys were still skeptical she said "Oh come now boys, let's not jump to conclusions here. If this rather strapping man says he is my body guard then we can trust him!" Fleur walked over to Pharynx and extended a hand, which he took and as they shook hands she said "Pleasure to meet you, thank you for coming on what I'm sure was extremely short notice, what may I call you?"
Pharynx remained professional, despite the fact he had just now discovered the extreme appeal of female ponies and Fleur in particular, he cleared his throat and said "My name is Pharynx, I am head of security in the changeling kingdom and will guarantee that you shall not come to any harm or discomfort so long as I am here"

Pharynx found it sort of sweet that she was offering to have dinner with him and considering she wasn't in too much danger, he wondered why she even needed a body guard at all, perhaps it was for simply keeping fans and paparazzi away since she had made a career out of being a supermodel. Pharynx nodded and said "As you wish", not for a second allowing himself to lose focus or let his defenses down yet. The two of them left the studio and headed for Restaurant Row, the center of Canterlot's finest cuisine and home to some of the most delectable treats the city had to offer.
Pharynx and Fleur found a tucked away little place called "The Tasty Treat" which had some of the more unique and diverse flavors in comparison to other places, after ordering their food they sat patiently and started engaging in a conversation. Fleur said "So, did you enjoy my photo shoot? Well, I mean, you obviously liked the last few poses considering what you were hiding under your armor! Other than that though, did you like it?"
Pharynx nodded and said "Yes, it was interesting to watch, though I must admit that I am surprised that you went for such erotic poses. Is that a usual occurrence?"
Fleur sighed and went "Well, no. The thing is I'm at that point in the industry where younger mares are hitting the scene and women in their early thirties, like myself, are considered old news and are finished. The conversation abated momentarily as they ate their food, though it was as they were about to leave that things took a turn for the worst. Pharynx was immediately at Fleur's side, frantic and asking "Fleur?! Are you OK?!"
The rogue changeling snarled "Get out of the way Pharynx, or better yet, hand her over! Imagine all the love I could feast on if I were to adopt her guise!"
Pharynx growled and launched himself at the changeling, whom he recognized to be a young and obnoxious changeling by the name of Chitin. Fleur watched with slight horror as Pharynx and Chitin wrestled each other, hissing and baring fangs at each other, Pharynx eventually came out on top and began to repeatedly punch Chitin in the face. Pharynx had never felt so angry in his life and after punching Chitin for the seventh time, he realized he had let his emotions get the better of him and had gone slightly overboard. Fleur fainted and Chitin fell unconscious from the pain.
Pharynx carried Fleur and Chitin on his shoulders, he met with Chrysalis and dropped Chitin to the ground and simply said "Your majesty, this young changeling went rogue and attempted to harm the pony I was assigned to protect, he must be taken away immediately whilst I see to it that this woman gets professional medical help, I apologize for failing in my assignment"
Chrysalis allowed Pharynx to hurry off and get Fleur some help while she saw to it that Chitin was incarcerated until further notice. Minutes later and Fleur woke up in a hospital bed, nearby she saw a doctor telling Pharynx that she seemed completely fine, to which he breathed out a sigh of relief. Fleur had to smile that he seemed to care so much about her personal safety. Pharynx noticed that Fleur was awake and rushed over before bowing his head and saying "Please accept my deepest apologies Fleur, I have, regrettably, failed you. My task was to keep you from harm and yet it has come to pass, if there is anything I can do as penance, let it be known and it shall be done"
Fleur smiled as she went "Yes, there is something you can do..." and without giving Pharynx any warning, she threw her hands around his neck and pulled him into a passionate kiss. For a few seconds, Pharynx was wide eyed and silent, not quite sure how to react, he never expected a pony to like him enough to kiss him! That was when he finally did let his guard down and started reciprocating the kiss, both of them moaning into each other's mouths before separating.
Pharynx cleared his throat and said "Um... Fleur.... considering that we are clearly interested in a more romantic dynamic between us... I have a proposition for you about how we should move forward with this... relationship..."
Fleur was intrigued and asked "Well... that sounds very formal but what is it? What's the proposal?"
As they left the hospital, Pharynx took Fleur by the hand and started walking back to talk to Queen Chrysalis. When Chrysalis saw them coming, she gave a disapproving look and said "Well, thanks to your sloppy performance today Pharynx, looks like we're stuck here for another few hours! The local authorities are insisting on a full interrogation of every changeling before they give us permission to leave"
Pharynx swallowed his shame and said "Your majesty... may I request a certificate that I can show Fleur?"
Chrysalis raised an eyebrow and went "On a first name basis with your client and close enough that you finally want to indulge in that part of changeling culture huh? Well, you're the first to engage in that sort of thing with a pony but I won't judge and if it improves your performance as a security guard then I'm all for it" before summoning up an unfurled scroll and handing it over to Fleur.
The second that Fleur saw the piece of parchment, she realized what immediately what it was and said "Oh my... oh my goodness, when I asked what the proposal was, I didn't expect it to be an actual proposal!" It was a marriage certificate.
Pharynx nodded and said "Yes, though I must warn you that marriage in the changeling kingdom is very different to how it is in the pony world, so I would suggest you read the contract thoroughly before you make any rash decisions"
Fleur took Pharynx's sage advice and allowed her eyes to scan the page, soaking in every letter. Once she was finished she said "Ah... I see, that is... quite different indeed and... I have to say it's rather old-fashioned, is that really how it works?"
Pharynx, confidently, stated "Yes. That is the law of marriage in the changeling kingdom, now please listen carefully. The only reason I am presenting this to you is because I care about you and want our relationship to go further, my station as security of the hive necessitates my need to remain in the hive for at least 95% of my time, I would not be able to visit Canterlot frequently in order for us to go out on dates or anything, I'm needed too much. This marriage however would mean you would be staying in the hive and I'd almost always be readily available to see you, even if the circumstances aren't all that romantic... the choice is yours..."
Fleur let it all sink in, was she really going to throw away the rest of her life just to be with Pharynx? Then again... what life did she have left? Her career was over and a life of servitude under a changeling that she found very attractive didn't sound like a bad life...... though she did have a couple of questions. "OK, before I give my answer, two things. One, can we have children? Two, will there be more brides like me?"
Pharynx understood and answered "No, changelings and ponies can't mix I'm afraid, as for other brides? Perhaps there will be more, it's almost expected when a changeling starts a harem, though more brides like you? Never, you are exquisitely unique and any other brides I acquire will be special in their own way, which hopefully means you'll be able to socialize and maybe even make a few friends if my harem grows large enough! I'd rather we make this thing official when we get back to the hive, so perhaps you would like to accompany us Fleur?"
Fleur went "Sure! I don't really go to Ponyville very often, it'll be interesting"
Chrysalis said "Alright, that settles it! Congratulations Pharynx, you've started a pony collection, don't get too comfortable because we'll be leaving in just a couple of hours"

On the train to Ponyville, Fleur had fallen asleep with her head on Pharynx's lap and Chrysalis was sitting opposite. The trundling sounds of the train were the only noise for a while until Chrysalis said "You know Pharynx... this is a pretty big milestone for relations between the changeling kingdom and other more "pony-centric" kingdoms. You and Fleur are the first coupling between a changeling and a pony for obvious reasons and I have to say that, if she provides you with a food source voluntarily... well, it's quite an achievement"
Pharynx nodded his head and said "Thank you your majesty, your approval is most appreciated"
Chrysalis paused and said "Pharynx... you are loyal to the hive and also a supporter of our peace movement, right?"
Pharynx went "Of course"
Chrysalis continued "And although you find female changelings very attractive and have even fucked a few of them, you have a thing for ponies to an extent where you've decided that you'd pursue multiple pony brides instead of changeling brides... right?"
Pharynx nodded and simply went "That would be an accurate assessment of the situation your majesty"
Chrysalis said "Good, because as you know, our initiative is based on the principle that our alliance with other kingdoms starts with a simple trade which would then open the door to future dealings, which establishes a mutual friendship via trade routes and so forth until, voila! Alliance. Pharynx, although it would be a lot to ask from a kingdom... there may come times where, in exchange for something that they want us to supply... I would like to ask for them to supply an additional bride for you. Are you OK with that idea?"
Pharynx found Chrysalis' idea surprising, though the fact that she was asking him permission was even more astounding. Pharynx replied "If it serves our kingdom and gives me more mares to have sex with, I think I'd be more than alright with it your majesty"
Chrysalis smiled and said "Excellent"
As they approached the station to Ponyville, Fleur was awake and said "So Pharynx, I know a little bit about you but is there anything I don't know that you think might be important?"
Pharynx said "Well, I have a brother named Thorax"
Thorax was sitting opposite them right next to Chrysalis and before Fleur could even ask to be introduced, Thorax gave a little wave and said "Hi!"
Fleur looked over Thorax. Instead of armor he was wearing a pale green shirt, brown waistcoat with a tie and trousers of the same color, presumably with black shoes on his feet. As Fleur observed his scrawny frame and feminine features, she just went "He... he's your brother?"
Pharynx chuckled and said "Yes, hard to believe, I know. As you can tell he is not a security guard for the hive, after the changelings voted to strive for peace, many of us had the freedom to choose our own jobs while some of us opted to remain in a more military post"
Fleur asked "So what is his job?"
Thorax excitedly piped up and said "I'm a tailor! In fact, I'll be the one responsible for making your harem outfit when we get to the hive! I've learned a lot of things from the world of fashion in Equestria and when we get to Ponyville, I'm hoping I can get some tips from one of the best fashionistas in the business!" Fleur found it beyond ludicrous that these two changelings were siblings, she had never seen two people who were such stark opposites to each other in her life. They pulled into the station, Chrysalis approached the train door and as soon as it opened, she was immediately faced by several royal guards, already pointing spears at her when all she had done is arrived in on the train and stood there waiting to get off the train.
One of the guards said "Halt changeling! Princess Twilight has accepted your invitation but has demanded that you be escorted to the castle! Myself and seven other guards will be responsible for your journey from this train to the castle doors! Only after that point will we allow you free reign to walk inside the castle and begin your talks with the princess!"
Chrysalis thought that this was slightly over the top but understood the reasoning behind it and said "Very well, however, please allow my citizens the freedom to explore Ponyville. I assure you that if any of them show the slightest shred of malevolent intent, then you can throw spears until your hearts are content and Twilight can blast us to oblivion with as much magical energy and as many magical artifacts that she has available to her"
The guards all shared glances with each other, silently conversing with each other through expression alone. The guard turned back to Chrysalis and, with a scowl on his face, said "Permission granted, now move!" As they filed out of the train, the very same guard noticed Fleur walking next to Pharynx and went "Halt!" Everything stopped as the guard pointed at Pharynx and went "You there, changeling, what is the nature of your accompanying this fine young woman? Is she a changeling spy? A captive? Have you kidnapped this female?"
Fleur frowned and said "Excuse me sir, but "female" has a name! My name is Fleur and I am not a changeling. Use magic if you don't believe me"
The guard was smart enough to know that not even a changeling spy would willingly reveal themselves and so he said "OK, so if you're not a changeling, are you in any danger?"
Fleur shook her head and went "Not at all, this changeling is my fiance. Oh, and before you ask, I was not forced into it, it's not an arranged marriage, I love him and want to marry him"
The guard almost gagged at the notion that a such a beautiful pony woman would waste their affections on an undeserving, good-for-nothing, filthy and disgusting creature such as a changeling, yet accepted what Fleur had said as fact and said "Alright men, let's move out!" Everyone considered it lucky that the guard thought that even a woman who had been kidnapped and was being forced to talk and therefore lie about the the changelings being innocent and not guilty of any crimes, wouldn't come up with such a ridiculous concept like "I'm getting married to a changeling"
As Chrysalis was being marched off towards the castle, Thorax immediately started making his way to Carousel Boutique. Pharynx turned to Fleur and said "Sorry to state the obvious here but... it would seem Ponyville won't exactly welcome me, even Thorax is getting odd looks and he is about as threatening as a rabbit. Fleur, explore the town by yourself for now, I am happy for you to go about town without me. Your experience in this town would be ruined if I am by your side"
Fleur, her heart touched and with her eyes welling up with tears, said "Oh Pharynx I... that's so sweet but I'm not ashamed to be romantically involved with you..."
Pharynx smiled and said "I know... but please, go and have fun in town without having to deal with ponies being judgmental just because I am with you"
Fleur just asked "Are you sure?"
Pharynx nodded. After a hug and a kiss, Fleur walked off into town and Pharynx did the responsible thing by walking in completely the opposite direction. Pharynx did his best to ignore the constant hateful looks he got from the residents of Ponyville as he simply walked around, not to mention the odd comment. Pharynx felt odd because as a security guard, he was usually honor bound to some kind of duty, even in Canterlot he had been tasked with protecting Fleur from harm but here... he served no purpose and was free to actually relax for once. Pharynx decided to go to a less populated area of Ponyville, he figured that his presence in town would cause too much of a disturbance both for him and the town in general.
Eventually Pharynx reached what looked to be an apple orchard, there was a barn and a house nearby but there didn't seem to be any people around at that moment. Pharynx walked to the nearest tree stump and sat down, taking in a deep breath of the fresh air, closing his eyes and just reveling in the warmth of the sun, feeling the cool and gentle breeze that washed over his skin, the smell in the air of fresh apples, cut grass and hay, things that all evoked an almost nostalgic feeling of being connected to nature and best of all was the almost complete and total silence, away from it all..... for about one minute.
The thump of a boot on a tree trunk and the subsequent sound of apples falling to the ground broke Pharynx out of his temporary solitude. He turned around to see a woman picking up the apples and putting them in a basket, it was only once she had filled the basket and collected all the apples that she wiped the sweat off her brow and noticed that Pharynx was even there. Though rather than look at him with disgust or fear, she went "Oh, well howdy there partner! Sorry if I disturbed you, I didn't know anyone was here. Name's Applejack, how you doin'?"
Pharynx smiled slightly and said "Name's Pharynx... I have to say that you're probably the first person in this town to actually treat me like a person instead of an evil creature"
Applejack nodded and went "Well, I can't say I exactly blame them due to your past, though if Twilight is willin' to trust you enough to allow Chrysalis in town then I see no reason not to trust you! I'm guessin' you came out here for some alone time huh?"
Pharynx thought and said "Well, kind of. That's not to say I wouldn't enjoy your company though, I think more than anything I came out here to relax, being head of security is a very tough and demanding job"
Applejack strolled over and sat next to Pharynx saying "Whew, tell me about it! I don't know anythin' 'bout bein' a guard but bein' an apple farmer? Well that's hard work and sacrifice for a whole other bushel of reasons!" The two of them smiled at each other, bonding a little over their shared connection of being very hard working people and their appreciation of people who did very difficult jobs. Suddenly, Applejack said "Are you hungry Pharynx? I'm pretty much done pickin' apples for the day, so if you like you can come in and I'll fix you up with a nice meal, whaddaya say?"
Pharynx, surprised at just how trusting Applejack was, said "Well, that's very hospitable of you but I don't want to impose, I'd hate to get in your way or be a nuisance..."
Applejack scoffed and went "A nuisance? Nonsense! Come on, if you're famished then I'll happily provide, so up and at 'em, let's have some good ol' apple family lunch together!" As they stood up and started strolling towards the house, Pharynx couldn't help but let his eyes roam over Applejack's body and it was only then that he realized something...... Applejack's ass was positively enormous. Pharynx hadn't noticed it at first because he wasn't really checking her out, though now that he was... he was just wondering how such a massive rump could even be squeezed into the jeans she was wearing, as Applejack undid a couple of the buttons on her red shirt to get some breeze to her cleavage in an effort to cool down, she turned around and smirked to see that Pharynx had his eyes focused on one particular part of her body.
A few seconds passed and Applejack, without warning, just stood stock still, causing Pharynx to accidentally press his crotch up against her buttocks. He froze in embarrassment, his eyes still stuck looking at her huge butt, Applejack cleared her throat and said "Hey, my eyes are all the way up here sugar cube"
Pharynx stepped away and said "I... I must apologize, I didn't mean to... it's just that-"
Applejack interrupted his fumbling with a chuckle and said "Relax big fella, you ain't the first person to notice the junk in my trunk, I suppose I should take it as a compliment that you find it so allurin'. It would seem that all my hard work kickin' trees out in the field didn't stop all the apple pies goin' to my thighs!"
Pharynx still felt the need to make up for ogling her and said "Well, that's not the only thing to like about you"
Applejack stopped again and turned to face Pharynx and said "Really? Well... what else is there? I mean, I don't consider myself particularly.... y'know, I'm not traditionally attractive"
Pharynx was confused now, he said "What are you talking about? I mean for me at least, I appreciate a woman who is strong and dedicated, your hair is a lovely shade of blonde and I like the red hair band you've used to tie it up in a ponytail, your freckled face certainly adds an element of cuteness, your accent... well, if I'm being honest I find it a little bit sexy, plus you're muscular and your eyes are are about as green as some of the lovely apples you have in your basket"
Applejack tried to hide her blush and went "Well... you can talk big guy! You got a deep and manly voice, most would say my brother Big Mac is considered the biggest and strongest guy in town but if he saw you, I'm pretty sure he'd turn tail and run! Also with the size of your body I can only imagine the size of your... well, y'know... your trunk and two apples, a tall and hardy thick trunk and... two ripe, plump and very juicy apples..." Applejack shuddered, licking the drool from her lips, her eyes drifting down towards the armor that was covering what Pharynx had between his legs.
Pharynx smirked and said "My eyes are up here, sugar cube"
Applejack blushed so hard that her face started looking like a red delicious apple with eyes as she said "Hey now! Don't go stealin' my countryisms!" They both had a laugh as they finally made it to the house, Pharynx sat down at the dining table and made himself comfortable while Applejack went to the kitchen and said "So, what you got a hankerin' for?"
Pharynx wasn't too well-versed in apple-based products, only really knowing about apple pies and not much else, so he just went "Oh I don't mind particularly, something small and easy will be fine"
Pharynx watched with fascination as Applejack peeled and sliced some apples and put them in a bowl, sprinkling them with some sugar and cinnamon before placing the bowl in the oven for five minutes. Applejack took them out of the oven and prodded them with a fork to test that they were done, satisfied that they were cooked, she put half of the slices on one plate and the other half on another plate, added a spoonful of maple syrup and one scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side. She put one plate in front of Pharynx before sitting next to him with her own plate and said "There you go! Some nice and simple apple slices, bon apple-tit!"
Pharynx smiled and started to tuck in, he wasn't sure what flavor he was expecting but the incredible taste that graced his tongue was not something he was expecting considering it looked to be such a simple recipe. He hummed and said "Oh my goodness... these are delicious! I can honestly say that if I could swap out my consumption of love for one food, this would be it!"
Applejack smiled as Pharynx began to hungrily scarf down the apple slices and said "Aw shucks, you don't mean that. It's just apple slices, there ain't no need to patronize me and go on sayin' they're better than they are because I assure you they ain't all that, so don't be tellin' lies! Give me your honest opinion!"
Pharynx insisted "No, I'm serious! These are wonderful! You're a very talented cook, I could imagine these being a very nice starter in a restaurant, I mean it!"
Applejack, feeling butterflies in her stomach at his praise, just went "Really?"
Pharynx nodded and said "Really really"
Applejack smiled nervously, people had always told her she was a good cook but not quite in the way Pharynx did, Applejack shrugged and went "Well... learning to cook apple-based products... it just comes with the tradition of my family I suppose, you should try some of our other stuff, cider, zap apple jam, not the right season for it at the moment but I'm sure you'd enjoy it if you come around more often!"
As Pharynx finished up his food, his face dropped and said "Well, it is unfortunate and a great travesty that it is unlikely that I will ever return to Ponyville, you see I'm head of security at the hive in the changeling kingdom so..."
Applejack caught on and in an equally somber tone said "You have to stay there... right?" Pharynx nodded, Applejack went "Well... that is a shame, I enjoy being with you"
Pharynx looked to Applejack and she looked at him, their eyes meeting. Pharynx cupped Applejack's cheek with one hand, she leaned into his touch as they brought their faces closer together until their lips met in a sensual kiss. When they separated, Applejack's breath was shaky and she said "You know... I don't think my family would approve of this..."
Pharynx went "Where is your family anyway?"
Applejack said "Big Mac is on a delivery, my Granny Smith is asleep and my little sister Applebloom is out with her friends..." and adjusted her hat as she held in her sorrow, trying desperately to hold back tears, she didn't know why she had fallen so instantly in love with Pharynx... there was just something about him that made her feel different to how she felt when other guys had tried to court her. Applejack continued "You know... sometimes... I wish I didn't have to work so hard, I feel like I have to be the strong one in my family because it's my responsibility to keep the farm goin' and... I don't know, I guess what I'm sayin' is... I wish I could be with you and not have to choose my work and my family over you... it's not fair..."
Pharynx nodded in understanding and said "Well... what if you could choose me?" Applejack looked at Pharynx with a questioning look on her face, though her quizzical look melted away to make way for a hopeful and happy expression while Pharynx explained the rules of marriage in the changeling kingdom.
"Are you seriously leavin' the farm AND the town just so you can spend the rest of your life with that THING?!?!" Granny Smith wasn't very pleased that Applejack had agreed to marry Pharynx, Big Mac and Applebloom weren't massive fans either but they knew that when Applejack made a decision, she stuck to it and would only find out if it was a bad decision later down the line.
Applejack didn't waver and said "Yes Granny, that's all there is to it"
Granny Smith could tell she wasn't going to get anywhere with Applejack and went back into the house in a huff, Big Mac and Applebloom were at least kind enough to give Applejack a "goodbye hug", a promise that they'd look after the farm and assure her that there would always be a place waiting just for her back on the farm if she was ever able to return. Pharynx made the effort to put Big Mac and Applebloom's worries and fears to rest, though whether he was successful or not was debatable at best. As they started making their way back to the train station, doing their best to ignore the funny looks and snide comments they were getting, Chrysalis was arriving at the same time, yet again surrounded by guards but also accompanied by a pony with very fetching purple and white striped hair.
Pharynx bowed and said "Your majesty, I would like to introduce you to Applejack, my newest bride"
Applejack bowed and said "A pleasure to meet you your majesty"
Chrysalis smiled and said "Well, funny coincidence! Pharynx, this here is Twilight Velvet, your newest newest bride. She's the first bride that you will have gained through political discussion, you have quite a large task ahead of you, so I asked the princess to supply you with a wife for "relaxation" purposes. I'll brief you on your mission during the train journey"
As Chrysalis got on the train, Twilight Velvet gave a little curtsy and said "It's an unexpected pleasure to meet you Pharynx, I hope to make you a very happy husband"
Pharynx smiled at how polite this pony was, then Fleur arrived on the scene and Pharynx said "Ah, great timing! Fleur, meet my two newest brides, Applejack and Twilight Velvet"
Fleur giggled and said "My my, two new brides already? Such a quick charmer! It's a pleasure to meet you both" while she shook hands with both of them shortly before they all boarded the train. The guards were left baffled that some ponies were choosing to marry a changeling.

Chrysalis was marched to the doors, hushed whispers and gasps the only sound beyond the clanging of armor and thudding of foot steps around her. One of the guards knocked on the door and, after a few seconds, a teenage dragon of all things opened the door. Upon seeing Chrysalis, the dragon swallowed a lump in his throat and said "Alright guys... Twilight is in the throne room waiting for you..." then dashed into said throne room while the guards marched Chrysalis in, she didn't expect that the guards would be present for the meeting as well, seemed like the princess was being overly cautious.
Chrysalis was marched into the throne room and flanked either side by a guard as she sat down, the other guards creating a circle around the whole room to cover every vantage point just in case they were forced to engage in combat and battle the queen of the changelings. Sat opposite Chrysalis was Twilight, with the dragon who hadn't been named yet and also two other ponies sat beside her. One was a woman with white skin plus purple and white striped hair and the other was a man with blue skin and even darker blue hair.
Twilight cleared her throat and said "Welcome Chrysalis. I am Twilight Sparkle, princess of friendship, besides me is Spike, royal adviser and friendship ambassador to the dragon lands and also... my parents, they were not intended to be here but my schedule unfortunately meant that their visit coincided with your visit and I had no wish to postpone either one... I do hope you can understand"
Chrysalis nodded and said "Of course, my goal here is to reach an agreement that will lead to a long-lasting friendship and sense of harmony between our two peoples, starting with a single trade"
Twilight said "Excellent, I took the liberty of studying what goods, services, substances and other such things that your kingdom has to offer and I think I may have found something that is of interest"
This was going better than Chrysalis hoped and said "Really? That's excellent to hear your majesty, what is that you wish for the changeling kingdom to provide?"
Twilight simply asked "Am I correct in understanding that there is a creature native to the changeling kingdom know as a maulwurf?"
This was an interesting turn of events, Chrysalis nodded and went "Yes, it's a large mole-like creature and, similar to regular moles, are a rather destructive pest. Despite being a herbivore that prefers to stay underground, the maulwurf will attack smaller creatures without provocation, you would have an interest in this creature?"
Twilight confirmed "Precisely. As I understand it, the maulwurf is an extremely rare and magical creature and the thing I ask for is simple. I wish for all available knowledge you have on this creature for the scientific community and also a specimen, that is to say I wish for the live capture of one maulwurf"
Chrysalis gasped and said "Capture? Forgive me your majesty, information on the creature is more than achievable, though the capture of a live maulwurf is no mean feat. For what purpose do you wish to have a maulwurf in captivity? To breed them?"
Twilight shook her head and went "No no, certainly not, if the maulwurf is as rare and destructive as I'm led to believe, then breeding them in captivity to save them from extinction is ill-advised. No, we simply wish for the capture of one maulwurf so that we can study it and then, once we've gathered all the facts we know about it from study and from the information you will give us, we will keep the creature in Tartarus. Naturally evil and/or aggressive beasts that pose a threat to pony kind have one member of their species kept prisoner in Tartarus as penance, it helps establish a sense of harmony because ponies don't feel the need to hunt the creatures down, they already know that at least one of the animals is being punished by imprisonment and the rest of the monsters have the right to be free, live and let live"
Chrysalis let that information soak in, it was an odd way of allowing dangerous creatures to roam the planet but now wasn't the time to discuss animal welfare, rights and ethics, this was about striking a deal between two nations and two races who had previously gone to war with each other. Chrysalis let out a breath and said "I must say your majesty, this is quite a difficult task, it will take my entire security team plus some new recruits and maybe even former army generals to successfully trap a maulwurf. I hope that you will understand that, in exchange for the information and the captured maulwurf, I will likely ask for something you may consider just as challenging"
Husband Harem 2: The Pony Prequel
Twilight nodded and said "I'm listening..."
Chrysalis thought about the negative drawbacks of attempting to capture a maulwurf, it would be a massive strain on guard duty for the hive, leaving the changelings somewhat vulnerable, not to mention that the guards themselves would have to go above and beyond and exceed every expectation, work harder than they've ever worked before, do everything they could think of that might aid them in the capture of a maulwurf. That's when her chief security guard, Pharynx, came to mind... and the promise he made on the train......
Chrysalis smiled and said "As it happens your majesty, my top security guard in the hive happens to have quite a thing for ponies, his name is Pharynx. He recently acquired a bride from Canterlot and, in our culture, it is customary for a changeling to have multiple brides for the purposes of indulging in the er... more carnal aspects of any loving relationship... I believe that, since this will be quite an ordeal for him and his team to go through, an additional bride would be an acceptable price for the capture of a maulwurf"
Twilight eyes widened a little, she looked to a guard for confirmation of the facts, to which the guard simply nodded. Twilight turned back to Chrysalis and said "Are you seriously asking that I surrender a citizen to your kingdom so that a member of the hive can drain them of all of their love?! I was of the understanding that this was a peace discussion and yet here you are! Reverting back to your old ways of forcibly attempting to consume love instead of working towards it being given voluntarily!"
Chrysalis knew that if the situation escalated any further, she'd soon find her body bleeding on account of having several spears stuck in it, not to mention being blown away by magic. Chrysalis shook her head and said "No no no, your majesty, please... you misunderstand. The pony you provide will not be drained of all of their love, they will be giving love voluntarily as a bride and will simply re-affirm that love by engaging in some casual copulation, no harm shall come to them, I swear!"
Twilight had no reason to distrust Chrysalis entirely here, she would be foolish to lie when she was outnumbered and surrounded. Twilight went "Well... if I assume that to be true, which I'm obligated to do at this juncture... then I suppose... maybe one pony won't make all the difference in the world. Did you have anyone in mind?"
Chrysalis relaxed and said "Well, considering that this is a political maneuver, it only seems natural to have someone of royal blood, like you"
Twilight's mouth hung agape and she said "I can't marry a changeling! Putting aside the whole scandal of such an idea, I'm the only reigning monarch in the kingdom of Ponyville! I can't leave to go the changeling kingdom and stay in the hive of all places!"
Chrysalis nodded in agreement and said "Very well... how about your mother then? She still counts as being part of a royal bloodline and she seems more than suitable"
All three members of the Sparkle family adopted faces that expressed confusion, shock, anger, concern and a myriad of other feelings they couldn't quite name. Twilight went "Absolutely not! Out of the question! The very suggestion is preposterous! For one thing she is already married, secondly she doesn't want to, thirdly my father wouldn't allow it, fourthly I won't allow it and fifth and finally, get out!"
Chrysalis frowned and said "If I may be frank your majesty, I don't much like the way you're talking to me. I was willing to put up with the way I was treated the second I arrived in Ponyville but I don't much like your tone. There are a fair number of rogue changelings in my kingdom who believe in the old cause, if they appeal to me to invade and start a second war against pony kind, which is something I truly don't want to do, I won't be able to ignore them forever. I would rather wage war than continually attack my own people, a deal needs to be agreed here otherwise the rogue changelings will remain rogue and won't come around to a more peaceful way of thinking and embrace the change. If it makes it any easier, your mother can simply visit the changeling kingdom as a temporary bride, then if she wishes to leave, a divorce will take place and she'll be sent home. Oh and about her already being married? That's not an issue, she'll be married under changeling law, not pony law. She'll just be gaining another husband, she doesn't have to leave her current partner"
Twilight frowned back and said "Is that a threat your majesty?"
Chrysalis shook her head and explained "No, it was a warning. Completely different, do we have a bargain?"
Twilight looked to Spike for advice, he bit his lip and said "Well... given the delicate social climate here... it might be best for Twilight Velvet to go to the hive and become a temporary bride..."
Twilight was against this but her hands were tied, she didn't expect her mother to become the valued commodity in this discussion. Twilight had to allow this for the greater good and safety of her kingdom, Velvet was the bartering item and although she did have some minimal say in the matter, she trusted her daughter to do the right thing and Night Light... well, there was no upside or silver lining for him, though it didn't seem like he had much of a choice anyway. Twilight simply said "Deal" and after Velvet kissed her husband and daughter goodbye, she left with Chrysalis, all eight guards following soon after.

Twilight stared at the letter with intrigue shortly before Celestia sent it to the intended recipient with her magic.

Twilight raised an eyebrow and said "SMILE?"
Bon Bon clarified "S-M-I-L-E, secret monster intelligence league of Equestria, Canterlot division, code name Bon Bon, at your service"
Celestia explained to Twilight "SMILE was a secret organization created by myself years ago that dealt with monster attacks before you and your friends rediscovered the elements of harmony, though a couple of mishaps that I'd rather not divulge culminated in the organization shutting down..." Celestia turn to Bon Bon and said "I'm sorry to have had to call you out of retirement for a new mission Bon Bon"
Bon Bon bowed and said "I will forever be at the ready to serve my country your majesty"
Celestia said "Excellent, since this is a request a made on Twilight's behalf, it seems only fitting that she brief you on the mission"
Twilight gulped, she had no idea that government espionage was a real thing, having previously thought it to be strictly a fantasy thing reserved for detective novels. Twilight said "OK then... agent. The mission is this, the changelings have recently been gifted women in recent peace talks to be married to their head of security... or so they say. You are to meet with a local journalist by the name of Bon Bon, she wants to write a piece about changelings and give us some positive press but she needs some insider information, that's where you come in"
Pharynx caught on and said "Understood your majesty, you have my word that I shall prevail" as he went in search of this "Bon Bon" character. Pharynx, not having a location of where to meet this journalist, simply walked around Canterlot and assumed that if the journalist spotted him, then she'd find a way to grab his attention. After five minutes of walking, Pharynx suddenly heard a feminine voice go "Yoohoo! Over here Pharynx!" Bon Bon shook her head and said "Oh not at all! From what I know about the hive, I wouldn't assume that changelings do things exactly the same way us ponies do! It is interesting for sure but I won't exactly question it!"
Chrysalis shrugged and said "Fair enough, your tailor will be along shortly to take your measurements and give you some clothing" before she walked out of the throne room, presumably to work on the plan moving forward in the quest for peace and potential alliances with other nations. Bon Bon waited patiently but took the time to scope out the throne room in the mean time, the only object worth noting was the large black throne, sculpted entirely out of the famous magic-absorbing rock, there didn't seem to be any obvious way to destroy it.

Thorax set his trunk down and said "Well, considering that I make all of the garments for each bride, I make sure that whenever a new bride enters the hive, a little signal is set off wherever I happen to be that shows me an image of the mare and her name! As the two of them stepped off the train there were four guards waiting for them, the head guards said, very stoically, "Hello changelings, the princess welcomes you to the kingdom of Ponyville. As royal guards, we are here to escort you to whatever locations within the kingdom you wish to go and will assist in whatever way we can"

Rarity changed the direction of the conversation and asked "So, Thorax darling, is this a casual visit or are you here for more couture coaching from yours truly?"
Thorax said "Well, I wouldn't mind hearing about the current fashion trends and what kind of styles are in this season but this is more just a casual visit, I don't want you thinking I only come to Ponyville to take advantage of your extensive knowledge, I'm here as a friend!"

Celestia was threatening war unless Twilight took back her declaration of war on the changelings?!?! Twilight tossed the scroll aside and opened the next one and was met with a similar message that said "Princess Twilight Sparkle, as prince of the Crystal Empire, I hereby decree that, should you follow through with your planned attack on the changeling kingdom, the kingdom of the Crystal Empire will declare war on the kingdom of Ponyville. Please reconsider your decision"
Were these forgeries?!?! No, they had the royal seal, followed the royal protocol of a war threat and had the respective monarchs signature handwriting, not even the most talented forgers in the world could go into that much detail. Twilight read the next one, horror etched onto every feature the more and more she read, every word sending a chill through her body, King Zulu had written "Princess Twilight Sparkle, as king of Afriquestria, I hereby decree that, should you follow through with your planned attack on the changeling kingdom, the kingdom of Afriquestria will declare war on the kingdom of Ponyville. We will not risk the lives of our citizens for a needless war and your assumption that we would ally ourselves with a monarch who declares war based on suspicion and hatred is offensive and morally incorrect. We implore you to rethink your stance on this situation, for if you decide to go ahead, not only will we not interfere to change the odds in your favor, we will instead assist the changelings and even declare war on your kingdom if necessary to defend a people who have not done anything wrong or anything that might suggest they have any malevolent intent. It's your choice"
It was a lost cause, it seemed Twilight was the only one who couldn't trust the changelings. With a sigh of resignation, Twilight just went "Spike... send a letter to Queen Chrysalis, I retract my declaration of war... the battle hadn't even begun and I lost!"
