An Apple a Day, Won't Keep the Ankylosaurs Away
The sun began to rise over Equestria's blue sky. The sunlight shown down on on one cottage, far from the nearby town. A yellow coated pegasus with a pink mane opened the door carrying a large amount of food for her animal friends. "Good morning," Fluttershy said in calm voice. All sorts of animals started to emerge from their homes and dens. Squirrels, rabbits, and birds, oh my! There was even a large bear resting inside a cave nearby.
Fluttershy began to pour the food for her animals while sing a lovely tune to herself. As she was tending to her animals, she was shocked to find that two large reptilian creatures sleeping right behind her cottage. "Oh my!" Fluttershy gasped. As she started to approach the creature, Junior's eyes fluttered open. "Hello there, little one" Fluttershy said in a motherly tone.
"AAH!" Junior screamed. "Mom, wake up!". Junior's mom quickly woke up and reared up on her hind legs.
Hadrosaurs like Parasaurolophus could walk both quadrapedal, four-legged, and bipedal, two-legged. Hadrosaurs used this in different situations. They rear up to get food from taller plants and to try and intimidate predators. They would walk quadrapedal when walking on the ground and eating small, low-growing, plants.
"You leave my son alone!" Junior's mom barked at Fluttershy. Fluttershy was taken aback by this creature's ability to talk, she wasn't used to any animals directly talking to her. Junior's mom continued to make angry parasaurolophus sound with her crest, trying to get Fluttershy to go away. Meanwhile, Junior was hiding under his mother's belly.
"It's okay, ma'm, I'm not going to hurt you or your son" Fluttershy said, trying to calm Junior's mom down. Junior's mom got back on four legs but she was still suspicious of this small furry creature, huffing deep exhales out of her nose. "Since we're all calm now, why don't we start some introductions," Fluttershy said.
"Alright," Junior's mom said in a calm yet stern tone.
"O-Okay," Junior said nervously.
Meanwhile in Sweet Apple Acres, Apple Bloom was going to Zecora's hut to get the captured compies. "Now, where in the hay are you going, Apple Bloom?" Apple Bloom's older sister, Applejack, asked.
"Didn't I tell you yesterday?" Apple Bloom. She previously told her sister about how small bipedal lizards trashed Zecora's home, but Applejack didn't believe her.
"Apple Bloom, I've personally gone to Everfree Forest, several times by the way, and I have never seen a creature like the one you supposedly saw." Applejack said, skeptically. Apple Bloom simply rolled her eyes and walked out the doors. "Sometimes, I don't know what I'm gonna do with that filly," Applejack said, shaking her head. She looked towards the apple trees, spreading across almost the entire part of the farm.
She began to buck the trees and knocking the apples of their branches so they could harvest their food. She suddenly heard a low, guttural groan coming from nearby. She ignored it at first but then she heard it again followed by a slam into a tree. "What in the hay?" Applejack said, confused.
She started to walk towards the sound. What she saw, left her speechless. A medium-sized, bipedal reptile was walking in a circle in frustration. This was a Stygimoloch.
Stygimolochs were herbivorous dinosaurs that lived during the Late Cretaceous. These dinosaurs and their relatives were unique as they had bony knob right in the dead center of its head. Bone spikes lined the back of its head. With this "headgear", Stygimoloch and its relatives dealt extra damage to its enemies when it rammed into them. These additions were also used in competitions within species especially for mates.
"Come on, fall!" The stygimoloch yelled at a red apple. Bruce had been going at this for long time now, ramming into the apple tree to make the apples fall down. But it seems like apples were being stubborn.
"Need some help, partner" Applejack asked, smirking. Bruce looked in shock at the orange pony.
"What in the name of Pangaea are you?!"
"Uh, a pony" Applejack said. She walked over to the tree and rose her legs up to buck the tree.
"What are gonna do, kick the tree?" Brawn said with a smirk. To his surprise, Applejack was actually able to knock the apples out of the tree causing all of the apples to cover Brawn. "Touche," Bruce deadpanned. Brawn began to took a bite out of the apple and immediately was struck with awe.
"This is the most delicious thing I've ever tasted!" Bruce exclaimed.
"Why, thank you, partner" Applejack said. "Name's AJ, what's yours?".
"I'm Bruce the Stygimoloch," Brawn said, taking another bite out of the apple.
"Never heard of a stygimoloch before," Applejack said. "Anyway, what brings you to Ponyville, Bruce?".
"Honestly, I'm not sure. One minute I was munching down on some ferns and then.." Bruce continued.
*Flashback* Bruce was casually eating ferns and other plants alongside his herd in some flat, green plains. Suddenly, a large cluster of light started to engulf the group. "What's going on?" Bruce thought to himself. The other dinosaurs started to panic as the cluster of light grew bigger and bigger. Finally, it stopped and disappeared. But it was not the only thing that disappeared, for the whole herd had vanished along with the light.
As Bruce finished telling his story, Applejack's mouth was left gaping open. "The next thing we knew, we're surrounded by large apple trees.
"Wait a minute, did you say 'we'?" Applejack said. Brawn simply pointed towards something beyond some trees. As AJ walked through the trees, her mouth practically dropped to the ground. Dozens of dinosaurs grazed in the fields made for the trees, most of them being crushed and smothered under the dinosaurs' weight.
"Sweet Celestia!" was all Applejack was able to say.
"Yeah, we're kind of a huge group, mostly made up of ankylosaurs." "Over there is Old Man Ankylosaurus" Brawn said, pointing to a lumbering ankylosaurus.
Ankylosaurs and to extension Ankylosaurus, were large quadrapedal, herbivorous dinosaurs. They lived during the Mid Jurassic to the Late Cretaceous. Most species had large body armor like spikes and osteoderms, bony plates, that decorated almost their entire body except their bellies. Some even had large tail clubs that could easily damage or break bone.
"I've gotta tell Twilight about this!" Applejack said.

Okay, let's clear up the whole 'dinosaurs can talk' situation. Some dinosaurs and ones that have importance to the plot will be able to talk. I know its confusing and I might change it later on but that's what I'm sticking with. Remember to share your thoughts in the comments. Also all the art shown is not mine. Bye for now!
Cloudsdale was home to many pegasi and in particular one pegasus called Rainbow Dash, the element of loyalty. Right now, she was practicing with her favorite flight team, the Wonderbolts. "You ready to make some thunder, Crash!" The leader of Wonderbolts, Spitfire exclaimed.
"Hah! I was born ready!" Rainbow Dash replied back with a smirk. As the group was about to finish their practice, Rainbow caught something out of corner of her eye. At first, she thought it was another pegasus but as the flying figure got closer, it appeared to get bigger in size. She quickly halted and tried get a better look at the creature.
"Hey, Crash!" Soarin exclaimed. "What are you looking at?".
"There's something over there," Rainbow Dash explained, pointing to the flying creature.
"What are you two doing!? Get back to practice now!" Spitfire yelled from above.
"Ma'm, there's something flying toward us and whatever it is, it's definitely not any pegasus, unicorn, or earth pony" Rainbow Dash replied. Suddenly, a giant screech thundered from up above. "Spitfire, watch out!" Rainbow Dash yelled. It was too late. The winged creature had the yellow Wonderbolt leader in its claws. The force of the larger creature was able to push Spitfire to the ground.
The creature was revealed to be none other than a Pteranodon, a pterosaur dating back to the Cretaceous Period. Pteranodon and other pterosaurs were able fly thanks to their large wings. Scientists are still unsure about how these wings evolved onto these animals but their is one thing we know for certain: they sure were good at flying. Many pterosaurs could were really fast flyers while others used flight as an adaptation. For example, Pteranodon used this skill to search and hint for food. Its main food was fish so it used its wings to dive into the water, swim, snatch fish in its beak, and quickly fly out of the water. Pteranodon would mostly live near beaches or rocky shores near their primary food. This was also where they would mate and lay their eggs.
The Pteranodon quickly made its assault on Spitfire. It quickly stabbed her back repeatedly with its beak, drawing blood. Before it could make some real damage to the pegasus, Rainbow Dash quickly kicked in the head sending the pterosaur spiraling down the track way. "You okay, ma'm" Rainbow asked her fallen ally.
"A little battered but I'll be fine" Spitfire reassured. She tried to stand up but immediately collapsed. She looked at her wound, pouring blood onto the concrete of the track way. "That guy got me good, though".
As all of this was going down, the flying creature from earlier landed. It was another pteranodon. It seems like this was a planned attack, one would distract and while the other attacked. Rainbow quickly turned to the approaching pteranodon. "Soarin, get Spitfire to the hospital, I'll handle these guys".
"Are you sure you'll be alright?" Soarin asked.
"I've handled worst," Rainbow said, smirking. Soarin nodded as he and the other Wonderbolts carried the wounded Spitfire away. Rainbow Dash took one last glance as the Wonderbolts departed. She then focused her mind on the approaching pteranodons. The one in front of her screeched at her, flapping its wings in intimidation but Rainbow Dash was undeterred by this.
"Bring it on, ugly!" Rainbow Dash yelled in a mocking tone. Rainbow quickly flew up and kicked right into the pteranodon's head, disorienting it. The second one flew up to Rainbow and tried snapping her hoove or wings. Rainbow was too quick for the flying reptile and landed a punch right on top of the noggin. The second pteranodon kept on trying to deal blows to Rainbow and soon the other pteranodon joined in, each snapping at Rainbow. But Rainbow Dash had speed on her side. She quickly outmaneuvered and eventually was able to drive off the second pteranodon. But then she got a little too cocky. "What's the problem, dude?" Rainbow Dash said, taunting the retreating animal. "Ya can't handle this much awesomene-". She was quickly interrupted as the first pteranodon grabbed a hold of her arm. It dove towards the ground, hoping the impact would kill the pegasus and this hunt would be a success.
Rainbow Dash eventually came to her senses and tried to get the creature to let go of her but to no avail. They were quickly approaching the ground and pteranodon quickly slammed Rainbow into the ground.
As Rainbow struggled to get up, the pteranodon swooped down and pinned her. Rainbow covered her eyes waiting for the final blow. But it never came. Confused, Rainbow opened her eye and noticed that the pteranodon wasn't there anymore. Well, it was there but it was getting its throat ripped apart by a deinonychus (see Chapter 1). The raptor had jumped onto pteranodon just in time for Rainbow to avoid her grim fate. The raptor suddenly noticed Rainbow Dash, staring back at him.
"Ooh, second course!" Razor said, excitedly and began to get into a pouncing stance.
"Oh come on, dude! Not cool!" Rainbow Dash said as she quickly flew away.
"Oh, I love fast food!" Razor said as he ran after her.
Get it? 'Fast'. Because Rainbow Dash is fast.
No. Okay.
Anyway, Rainbow Dash tried to outrun Razor, zooming through different obstacles to try and loose him. Unfortunately though, it didn't work. Razor simply jumped over anything that came in his way. "Heh, it's gonna take more than that to lose this old raptor," Razor said, snarky. Just he was about to get a hold on Rainbow, he stopped and ominously turned his head in another direction.

Rainbow Dash also stopped, horror stricken across her face. "Thanks, Zecora" Apple Bloom said, taking the compy crate from the zebra.
"Anytime, Apple Bloom. I hope to see you crusaders soon," Zecora replied.
Rainbow realized that those voices were the Cuties Mark Crusaders and one in particular was Scootaloo, the little sister she never had. She stared nervously at the raptor. Razor began to grin, looking to dine on some fillies. "Looks like I have some food to greet. See ya later, alligator!" Razor said, grinning.
"Oh no.." Rainbow Dash said as she quickly flew off into Razor's direction. She knew that if she was too late, then the little fillies were goners.

All Good Friendships Start With Introductions, Part 1
"I sure hope Twilight knows what these things are," Sweetie Belle said.
"Ditto," Scootaloo said. The compies continued to screech and scratch from within the crate. "Calm down, guys!" Scootaloo scolded. Suddenly, Razor pounced right in front of the Crusaders.
"Where you girls going?" Razor asked, creepily.
"We're just going to Ponyville to visit Princess Twilight," Apple Bloom explained. The deinonychus was slowly approaching the Cutie Mark Crusaders, saliva dripping out of his mouth. The Cutie Mark Crusaders slowly backed away from Razor, looking at each other anxiously. They didn't know what this thing might do to them.
"Well, we should probably get going now," Apple Bloom said, trying to get past the giant reptile. But Razor persistent in getting his food.
"I can't in good conscience let you little, uh, things go out on your own," Razor replied. "There are some scary and dangerous things out there that would just love to have you for dinner".
Suddenly, Rainbow flew out from the trees and nailed a punch right in Razor's jaw, knocking a tooth out of it. Razor then fell to the ground, unconscious. "That's what you get, jerk!" Rainbow yelled. "You girls alright?"
"That was awesome!" Scootaloo exclaimed.
"Darn tootin'!" Apple Bloom said.
"Thanks, Rainbow Dash!" Sweetie Belle said.
"Ah, please, it was nothing." Rainbow Dash replied.
"Hey lady!" Razor said as he stood up, "You owe me a tooth!" He quickly held up a bloody tooth from off the ground and showed it towards the rainbow-maned pegasus. "I just want to eat them, is that too hard to ask?!"
"Yes!" All four ponies said in unison.
"Well, it looks like I'm gonna have to get a to-go order," Razor said as he picked Scootaloo up and quickly ran off. "See ya, suckers!"
"Help me!!" Scootaloo cried out.
"Scootaloo!" The ponies yelled.
"We've gotta get her back!" Sweetie Belle cried.
"Right!" Rainbow Dash said. The ponies nodded as they set chased after Razor to save Scootaloo.
Meanwhile, at Flutershy's cottage...
"Just know that you and your son are welcome to stay here or at my animal sanctuary for the time being, Tulip" Fluttershy said to Tulip. It had been awhile since Tulip, her son, Junior, and Fluttershy had introduced themselves. After these introduction, Tulip and Fluttershy had become quick friends. Especially with Junior who was currently playing with her animals.
"Thank you, Fluttershy" Tulip said. Suddenly something quickly popped out of the bushes carrying an orange, purple-maned pegasus in its claws.
'Scuse me! Just a deinonychus running from a very angry group of furry creatures!" Razor said as he dashed through Tulip's legs.
"Oh my!" Fluttershy gasped.
"Hey! Get back here, you overgrown lizard!" Rainbow Dash yelled, as she and the rest of the Cutie Mark Crusaders jumped from the Everfree Forest.
"Hey! I'm a dinosaur, not a lizard! There's a difference!" Razor yelled back, still running.
"Dino-what?!" Apple Bloom said, confused. As the group were chasing Razor, Rainbow quickly stopped as she noticed Fluttershy.
"Fluttershy, we need your hel-" Rainbow Dash said but stopped when she noticed Tulip right next to her. "Okay, that's a story for later but Flutters, that giant lizard's got Scootaloo!"
"Dinosaur!" Razor yelled from far away.
"I really don't care," Rainbow Dash said, deadpanned.
"What!?" Fluttershy gasped, "That thing's got Scootaloo!?" Fluttershy yelled. Rainbow Dash nodded as she and Fluttershy flew towards Ponyville.
"Come on, Junior! We've gotta follow them!" Tulip said, as she and her son ran after them.
In Ponyville...
Rarity had just finished a massive order of dance suits for Sapphire Shores, a popular pony pop star (what a tongue twister!). It had taken a while to get the appropriate gems and fabrics but it was certainly a job well done. Just before she could close the door, a quickly-moving figure rushed past her. Because of the sudden gush of force, Rarity was knocked over and accidentally dropped the dresses into a close mud puddle.
When she saw this, she was completely stunned with a feeling of both sadness and anger.
Razor was about to experience the underworld incarnate.
"You..you ruffian! Don't you know how long these dresses took me to make!" Rarity scolded but realized that the figure had already rushed ahead.
"Oh, you are not getting away that easily, brute!" She yelled. Rarity gathered up the now grimy clothing together and galloped towards the creature. Just behind her, the rest of the group were in hot pursuit.
Twilight Sparkle is the Princess of Friendship and was once the prized protege of Princess Celestia. Through her friends, she was able to learn the magic of friendship and use the the Elements of Harmony to defeat many villains that sought to rule Equestria. Right now, she was casually reading a book to herself while her assistant and baby brother, Spike the Dragon helped sort out some scrolls. Just as Spike was about to finish, a sudden burst from the door caused all of Spike's work to fall over. "Well, there goes my afternoon." Spike said, deadpanned.
Twilight carefully trotted towards the source of the sound and was shocked to find a large, feathery, reptile place a squirming Scootaloo onto the Friendship Map. "Let go of me!" Scootaloo squealed.
"That's an odd choice of last words. Oh well, I'm not picky." Razor said as placed a conveniently placed dinner napkin around his neck and opened his mouth wide open, revealing his sharp, curved teeth. Deinonychus' teeth and claws allowed to make quick work of its food. Its primary strategy for catching prey was hunting in packs which allowed them to hunt larger prey like Parasaurolophus or Corythosaurus.
"Stop!" Twilight yelled before Razor could devour the small pegasus. "Oh, come on! Another one!" Razor exclaimed, frustrated. Just as Twilight was about to fire magic from her horn, Rainbow Dash suddenly burst through the doors alongside Rarity, Fluttershy, Tulip, Junior and Pinkie Pie, who just popped up from out of nowhere. "Rainbow Dash!" Scootaloo exclaimed.
"Alright, punk! You can mess with me but NO ONE MESSES WITH SCOOTALOO !" Rainbow said as she lunged at Razor, fires literally being set ablaze within her pupils. Razor could only mutter one word as the raging pegasus flew at him..
The two got into a tussle with each other as each one landed blows on each other. Before any real damage could done or more accurately, before Razor was killed by Rainbow, Twilight stopped them with her magic. "Stop!" Twilight said as she froze them with her magic.
"Okay, but only if that guy backs off." Rainbow growled.
"Ditto," Razor replied. As Twilight unfreezed them, Applejack walked into the room. "Hey, Twili-Whoa! What did I miss?"

All Good Friendships Start with Introductions, Part 2
"Why do I have to be wrapped up like this?" Razor said, frustrated. After releasing Scootaloo from his claws, he was tied up in ropes by the ponies, much to his chagrin.
"Because if we let you go, you'll try and eat us!" Rainbow retorted. "Ya feathery lizard!".
"If your never gonna get it right, I'll might as well start calling you the wrong name too," Razor said, sarcastically. "What's your name?"
"Rainbow Dash."
"Well I guess I'll call you Rainbow Douche. How do you feel about that name, Douche?" Razor said, smirking. Rainbow just snarled at the feathered dinosaur.
"Twilight, why do are we even keeping these guys around. We should just get rid of them." Rainbow said.
"Hey, we are right here!" Bruce yelled, offended. He and the other dinosaurs had been sitting in the room while the Mane 6 were discussing.
"Sorry Bruce, this one doesn't think before she acts" Appejack said.
"Hey, whose side are you on, AJ?" Rainbow asked, offended.
"Okay, girls. Why don't talk about this in the other room. You guys just stay here." Twilight explained. The Mane 6 quickly left the room, leaving the dinosaurs and the CMCs alone.
"So, what's your name?" Sweetie Belle asked Junior.
"Uh, Junior?"
"That's a nice name." Sweetie Belle said.
"Thanks," Junior responded.
Outside the room, the Mane 6 were discussing the sudden discovery of the dinosaurs. "Okay, so what do we know about these guys?" Twilight asked the mares.
"Tulip and her son, Junior, are parasaurolophuses" Fluttershy said.
"Bruce said he was a stygimoloch and he lived a herd that's in my apple orchard right now" Applejack said.
"That 'Razor' guy tried to eat me and the CMCs" Rainbow explained.
"I don't really know anything about any of these creatures but I did see that 'Razor' fellow run past my boutique" Rarity said.
"And I have no idea who these guys are" Pinkie said, weirdly optimistic. "But I can't wait to make some new friends!".
"Pinkie, I don't think these guys are all that friendly. That lizard tried to eat Scootaloo!" Rainbow said.
"Tulip and Junior didn't try to hurt me. She did get aggressive at first but that was only because she was protecting her son." Fluttershy said.
"And Bruce did ram into my trees, but he was only trying to get some food." Applejack commented.
"I still don't trust these guys. They look like bad news." Rainbow argued.
"I agree, darling. I wouldn't want those things near Sweetie Belle." Rarity agreed. "What do you think, Twilight?". The girls all turned to Twilight. After listening to their stories, Twilight wasn't sure what to think. On one hand or hoof , these creatures seemed dangerous and one of them even tried to eat a pony. But on the other hoof, some of her friends saw a different side to the reptiles or 'dinosaurs' as they called them. She also remembered the age old lesson of never judging a book by its cover. Maybe she should give these guys a chance. After all, she was the Princess of Friendship.
"We should give these guys a chance. From sounds of it, most of them seem friendly," Twilight finally decided. "Now, let's go back in the room and introduce ourselves to our new guests " Twilight said nervously.
"Okay, but I still don't trust them, especially the feathery one." Rainbow said, grumpily. As the 6 friends re-entered the room, they were shocked at the sight that behold them. The CMCs were playing with Junior, chasing after each other in a game of tag.
"Looks like Junior's already made some friends." Fluttershy said, smiling.
A while later...
Everyone had gathered into a circle so that they could introduce themselves to everyone.
"Hello, my name's Bruce the Stygimoloch."
"My name's Tulip and this is my son, Junior."
"Name's Razor and I hate this place." He was still tied up and very hungry. The raptor was so close to getting something to eat. H had gotten that pteranodon from his encounter with Rainbow but he wasn't able to even eat it. Now, it was probably being eaten by some scavengers. And now, both his meals were still alive, sitting across from him, and he couldn't even touch them. Oh well, he thought to himself. I guess I go hungry once again. Just like before.
"I'm Fluttershy and take care of all sorts of animals."
"I'm Applejack and I live my family at Sweet Apple Acres."
"My name is Pinkie Pie! And I looooovvvveee to party!!"
I'm Rarity, one of the best fashion designers in Equestria."
"I'm Rainbow Dash, the fastest flyer in Equestria!"
"And I am Twilight Sparkle, the Princess of Friendship and the leader of the Elements of Harmony-" Twilight was then interrupted by Razor's, hugely noticeable, snickering.
"Princess of Friendship? Elements of Harmony? HAHAHA! That sounds like the plot of a TV show made for little girls!" Razor said, between laughs.
"Hey! Treat her with some respect, she's a princess!" Rainbow argued. "You better watch where you're stepping."
"Oh no, I'm shaking in my boots!" Razor said, sarcastically. The two growled at each other with anger in their eyes.
"Guys, calm down. We need to try and get along with each other," Twilight said.
"I agree with Twilight, if we're going to be here for who knows how long, we might as well try and get along with people here." Tulip agreed.
"That reminds me, how did you all get to Equestria?" Fluttershy asked.
"Well, Junior was playing nearby and I was laying on ground. Then, all of a sudden, a bright light started to appear and in a flash, me and Junior were transported to this place."
"Same thing happened to me," Bruce said.
"Yeah, me too. I was resting inside my den when the same bright light brought me here." Razor said.
"Interesting." Twilight said.
"What is it, Twilight?" Applejack asked.
"Well, from what the dinosaurs have described, I think they're transportation here might be linked to magic. I'll have to do more research. Twilight explained. "Until I figure something out, I guess it'll be a mystery. You all should get accustomed with this world since it looks like you're going to be here for a while."
With this conclusion, the dinosaurs and the Mane 6 dispersed, making sure that the dinos wouldn't be noticed by the townsfolk. Bruce followed Applejack back to the farm, Tulip and Junior went back to Fluttershy's house, and Razor retreated back to the Everfree Forest. The CMCs were about to grab crate with the compies in it, when they noticed that the crate had a large hole knawed into it.
"Dag-nabbit! Looks like those little guys got away." Applebloom exclaimed.
"Ah man! They were kinda cute." Sweetie Belle said.
The two other fillies stared at their friend, shocked.
"What?" Sweetie Belle asked.

Who Took the Pies?
A pie can be seen baking in an oven. A timer rang and the pie was taken out by a pair of magenta oven gloves worn by Pinkie, the party pony of Ponyville. She was preparing a batch of strawberry pies, covered with whipped cream and diced with sliced strawberry slices. Tasty, right?
"It is!" Pinkie exclaimed looking at..me? Oh right, you can break the fourth wall. Hi, Pinkie!
Pinkie waved back as she placed the final pie with the others. "Well, it took a while but I finally finished all of the pies for Pound and Pumpkin Cake's birthday party." Pinkie said, exhausted. Just then, the two aforementioned foals crawled into the kitchen, giggling like, well, foals. "Oh, hey, Pumpkin and Pound. You want some whipped cream." Pinkie said as she gave a small dollop of cream to the small foals. Pumpkin and Pound Cake giggled as they took a taste.
After that, Pinkie loaded the pies into the fridge so that they were ready for the party tomorrow. She was very excited since the little foals were officially turning into fillies. As the day turned to night, and the ponies in Ponyville slept peacefully in their bed, all was quiet in the town. Well, except for the sound of stomping made by a large, shadowy figure. As walked through the town, it suddenly caught a whiff of something coming from a large building with what looked like a large gingerbread house covered in pink frosting.
The figure was about to stomp off when it smelled something they had never smelled before. Something sweet. Something delicious. The smell formed into a hand, beckoning for the figure to follow it to the bakery. The shadow began to follow it and was easily able to open the front door, because, well, the thing was bigger than the entrance, so it was pretty easy. As the creature carefully stepped into the building, the floorboards creaked under its massive weight. It continued to sniff until it reached the smells source: a medium-sized container about the size of himself. He ripped open the container's door and looked inside. What lied there were 6 pies on a tray, laced with whipped cream and strawberry slices.
As the shadow looked at the pies, his stomach started to growl. While he was a carnivore and his diet was exclusive to meat, he was starving! He took a small bite out of one of the pies. Then another. And another. And another. And before he knew it, he had eaten the entire batch. The creature licked his lips in satisfaction and walked back to the Everfree Forest.
The next day...
Pinkie smiled as she woke up. It was the Cake's twins birthday! She squealed in excitement and rushed downstairs...only to be completely shocked at the sight before her. The fridge's damage was nothing to the state of the front entrance. It looked as someone launched a rocket at the restaurant! The ponies walking nearby the bakery were just as shocked as Pinkie, some whispering 'What happened here?' and 'I wonder if they're still serving those special chocolate-chunk cookies'. Something dawned on Pinkie as she quickly rushed to the now crushed fridge. She frantically searched in each area of the fridge, clearly distressed about something. "Oh no, where are the pies?!" Pinkie exclaimed.
Back in Pinkie's room, after several minutes of freaking out, the pink pony was pacing back and forth while her pet alligator, Gummy, just stared at her. "What am I going to do, Gummy? The twins' birthday is today and their pies are missing!" Pinkie exclaimed, getting all up in Gummy's non-expressive face. Does this guy do literally anything? As she panicked, Pinkie began picturing the disappointed looks of both Pumpkin and Pound Cake when they don't get their delicious pies. "If I don't find those pies, then the Cake twins will be super sad and everypony will be mad at me. If I end up ruining this party, then I'll never be the party pony that everyone knows! And if that happens, no one will trust me to hold a party ever again! THIS IS A DISASTER! AAAAAAAHHHHHH! " Pinkie screamed. Gummy continues to stare at her, slowly blinking a few times.
"You're right, Gummy! I need to get a hold of myself." Pinkie said, calming down. "What I need to do instead is figure out who stole the pies, and when I do," Pinkie said, giving an evil look while rubbing her hooves together. "I'll ask them ask them nicely to give them back and be a part of the party!" Pinkie exclaimed, immediately shifting the mood.
"But where to start?" Pinkie asked herself. Suddenly, she heard some noises coming from the trash bins down in the Sugarcube Corner's back alley. Pinkie quickly ran down the stairs to investigate the noise. As she walked out into the back alley, she could see the silhouette of something rummaging through the garbage. She slowly approached the figure, grabbing a trash bin's cover to defend herself from the creature. When she stepped further, a raccoon screeched and scampered away from the trash bins. "Oh! It was just a raccoo-"
"Hi, Pinkie!" Razor said in nonchalant voice, causing Pinkie to shriek in terror.
"Get away from me, monster!" Pinkie screamed as she hit Razor continuously with the trash bin's cover she was carrying.
"Wait, Pinkie, it's me!"
WHACK!
"Pinkie, wai-"
WHACK!
"Stop, Pinki-"
WHACK!
"Hold on a seco-"
WHACK!
"Ow," Razor said as he collapsed, a long bump rising from his head.
"Razor, I'm soooo sorry, I thought you were a trash monster!" Pinkie apologized, helping Razor back up.
"How could I have been mistaken for trash monster?" Razor asked, clearly frustrated as he pushed the tall bump back into his head.
"They're very common, ya know?" Pinkie said, nodding. Razor just looked at her, dumbfounded. "What were you doing, Razor? Rummaging through the trash bins like that?"
"I was scavenging for leftover food, mainly meat. Its very common for most carnivores like me." Razor answered. "But apparently, you 'ponies' don't got anything good" He said, looking very frustrated.
"Yeah, sorry Razor, we only eat plants." Pinkie said, looking sadly at the raptor.
"Darn it!" Razor exclaimed. "So, what are you doing out here?"
"I'm on a case, ya see. The Case of the Missing Pies!" Pinkie said, pulling a detective hat from out of nowhere. All the colors suddenly turned black and white like in one of those old detective shows.
Ooh, tonal shift! I like this!" Razor said, smirking.
"I believe someone broke in and stole Pound and Pumpkin Cake's pies. I need to find those pies by 1pm or those foals' birthdays are ruined!" Pinkie continued.
Wait a minute! Two things! First, how do you know it was a break-in and second, who are 'Pumpkin Cake' and 'Pound Cake'? Razor asked, confused.
"Oh well, the front entrance was smashed and the Cake twins are Mr. and Mrs. Cake's children, my bosses." Pinkie explained. "This is where they live."
"Wait, I thought this was your house?" Razor said.
"Well, I share it with the Cakes."
Razor rubbed his temple in complete confusion. "Okay, so let me get this straight, you live with complete strangers but not only that, your employers."
"Yup!" Pinkie said, nonchalantly.
"Forget it, anyway, if something was able to do that much damage to the front entrance, it was definitely not a pony." Razor said. "From what I can tell, it must've been some sort of dinosaur."
"Does that mean you'll help me?" Pinkie asked.
"I guess," Razor said.
"Well, it looks like Detective Pinkie and her partner, Detective Razor are on the case!" Pinkie exclaimed, striking a heroic pose. Razor just rolled his eyes at the pink mare.
"Wait a minute! If the Cakes aren't at the bakery anymore, how did they not notice the giant hole in the bakery?" Razor asked, confused. Pinkie shrugged and hopped happily through the back-door entrance with Razor following, saying something to himself.
"I can tell this chapter is gonna be full of plot holes." Razor said, face palming himself.
The two began searching the kitchen for clues. "Razor, come look over here!" Pinkie exclaimed, looking at a large, clawed, muddy footprint on the now crushed, wooden floor. Razor approached the footprint, discreetly hiding behind the countertopd to avoid being spotted by the ponies walking by. "What type of dinosaur is this?"
"From the looks of it, it seems to be a theropod dinosaur." Razor said.
"What's a 'theropod'?"
"Well, I would explain it to you, but I'll just let the narrator do it instead." Razor said, facing the screen. "Take it away, chief!"
Theropods were a group of dinosaurs that were bipedal or walked on two legs, underneath them. While most were carnivorous such as Velociraptor and Tyrannosaurus Rex, certain groups within the theropod family were omnivorous or herbivorous.
"There ya go!" Razor said, nonchalantly.
"Oooohhh, now I get it!" Pinkie replied. Razor smelled the footprint to get better idea of what type of theropod it could be.
"Well, it definitely wasn't a T-rex, the footprints aren't big enough so smaller. My guess, probably a Nanotyrannus." Razor said.
Nanotyrannus was a theropod dinosaur that resembled Tyrannosaurus Rex. It was a genus of the Tyrannosaurinae and was on the smaller side of the species, being only about 6.6 feet tall. Nanotyrannus had a broad, boxy back of the skull, its jaws were lined with blade-like teeth, and had a thin snout. The dinosaur lived alongside T-rex in Western North America in Montana. These dinosaurs were primarily carnivores, using their agility, paired with their stereoscopic vision to hunt down their prey.
"Look, Razor! There's a trail of footprints leading away from here. Maybe if we follow them, it'll lead us right to the culprit." Pinkie explained.
"Then let's go! The hunt is afoot or ahoof, I guess." Razor exclaimed.
Pinkie quickly looked at the clock, the time of the Cake Twin's birthday party was quickly approaching. "We better hurry."
Pinkie rushed out following the trail while Razor wore a spare coat to hide his identity from the ponies. As the pair continued walking, they ran into the Cakes, carrying a huge bag of party supplies and decorations.
"Oh hi, Pinkie!" Mrs. Cake said, greeting Pinkie. "Who's your friend here?"
"Uh, well, umm..." Pinkie stuttered, trying to come up with a good answer.
"Cousin! I'm her cousin!" Razor said. "My name's, uh, Steve!"
"Oh well, it's great to meet you, Steve." Mrs. Cake said.
"Got to say, Steve, I don't think Pinkie's never mentioned you before." Mr. Cake said, scratching his chin.
"Well, we're really distant. Really distant." Razor replied.
"Anyway, we better get going!" Pinkie exclaimed.
"Wait, Pinkie, did you remember to get those strawberry pies ready for today?" Mrs. Pie asked.
"Oh yeah, definitely!" Pinkie nervously said, sweat dripping from her forehead. "Well, we'll be off now! Bye! Sorry about the front door! See ya at the party!" With that, Razor and Pinkie ran off in a hurry.
"Woah, that was a close one!" Razor exclaimed.
"Tell me about it!" Pinkie replied.
"Anyway, I think that 'Mrs. Cake' is pretty hot."
"Wait what?!"
"Nothing! Let's keep on searching!"
The two continued to follow the trail of footprints until it eventually went cold. "Aw man, the trail ends here!" Pinkie said, looking defeated as her mane deflated. "Pound and Pumpkin are going to be so sad." Pinkie said sitting down. "I've ruined everything
As Pinkie stared down gloomily, Razor felt something he never thought he'd feel for anyone, especially a random pink pony he met only a few days ago: pity. "You alright, Pinkie?" Razor asked.
"It's just that..I'm supposed to be the party pony of Ponyville and if I don't find those birthday pies then the Cakes won't trust me again if I failed to do one special thing for Pumpkin and Pound Cake. Maybe no one will trust me to host parties anymore or worse, ponies don't wanna be my friend anymore." Pinkie said, tears starting to form in her eyes.
Razor wasn't exactly sure what to do in this sort of situation, and frankly, it was getting really uncomfortable for him. He turned back to Pinkie, sighing, and sat down next to her. "Listen, Pinkie, I'm not really good at whole 'emotions' and 'friendship' thing." Razor said, raising up two air quotation marks. "But, I'll my best. Pinkie, just because you might've lost a few pies doesn't mean all the townsponies are gonna turn their backs on you. I saw the Cake family and they don't seem like they'd be all that upset." Razor said, comforting Pinkie. "A huge hole in their house, sure but a few missing pies, no way."
"Ya, really think so?" Pinkie said, smiling through her tears.
"I know so!" Razor said, smirking. Pinkie smiled at him and pulled him in for a hug. "W-What are you doing?" Razor asked.
"A hug, silly!" Pinkie exclaimed.
"Huh, never heard of it." Razor said, uncomfortably. Suddenly, a roar was heard coming from behind some shrubbery. Pinkie and Razor cautiously approached the noise. What lied in front of them was a medium-sized, bipedal dinosaur. It had beige skin, a purple stripe going down its spine and small, spiky crests over its eyes. It was called Megalosaurus.
Megalosaurus was theropod dinosaur from the Middle Jurassic Period that lived in southern England. But in early description of the creature, it was believed to be some sort of giant, quadrapedal reptile! Believe it or not, it was the first ever dinosaur fossil to be discovered! Since there aren't that many remains of the dinosaur, paleontologists are unsure about what it actually looked like. A few reliable descriptions said that a full-grown adult was 6 meters and weighed 700 kg. Though it was technically medium-sized, Megalosaurus was still classified as a large dinosaur, having a similar build to other carnivorous dinosaurs at the time.
"What type of dinosaur is that, Razor?" Pinkie asked.
"Not sure. Haven't seen something like it before." Razor said.
A sudden grumbling startled the two. The source: the Megalosaurus' stomach. It looked down gloomily at its stomach, its hunger increasing. Ever since he had been teleported here, he wasn't able to find much food. Large creatures made out wood and large mammals with the tail of a scorpion kept stealing all the food the creature caught for himself.
"Poor guy, looks like he's really hungry." Pinkie said, frowning at the situation of the carnivore. Unfortunately, the Megalosaurus had heard Pinkie's talking from the bushes and immediately stomped towards them. Razor jumped out of the bushes and set up a defensive stance, screeching at the Megalosaurus. It snapped its jaws at Razor and growled at the Deinonychus.
The two continued to circle each other, each waiting to make a move while Pinkie watched from the shrubbery. Finally, Razor jumped onto the Megalosaurus' back and clawed at its flesh. The Megalosaurus roared in pain and tried to shake Razor off of him. But Razor held tight to the dinosaur's back, using his claws to cling to the flesh. Suddenly, the Megalosaurus caught Razor's tail in his claws pulled him away from its wounds, tossing the raptor to the ground with great force. Before Razor could get back up, the Megalosaurus pinned him down with its feet.
Razor softly growled as the Megalosaurus gazed down at him. But before it could finish off Razor, Pinkie rushed out from the bushes. "Wait!" Pinkie yelled. The Megalosaurus quietly growled curiously at Pinkie, never had it seen a creature like her before. "Don't hurt him! I know you're hungry but don't hurt Razor." Pinkie continued.
As the small pink creature continued to talk, the Megalosaurus could pick up a familiar scent from her. It smelled just like that food that he ate at that large, pink 'cave'. Was the one who made them? If so, could she make more?
-and that's why ketchup is a smoothie. But back to my point, get away from Razor!" Pinkie continued. Luckily, the dinosaur did step off of Razor but unfortunately was making its way towards Pinkie. She gulped as she tried to back away, but the Megalosaurus was already upon her, staring down at her. The pink mare was terrified as the Megalosaurus slowly lowered its head. But instead of eating her, it let tout a series of some growls and grunts. "Uh, Razor, what's this guy saying?" Pinkie asked, not understanding what the dinosaur was saying to her.
Razor, now listening in on the Megalosaurus' words, translated them to Pinkie. "His name is Peanut and he's a Megalosaurus." Razor said.
"Aww, Peanut's is a really cute name." Pinkie cooed. Megalosaurus crossed his arms, embarrassed a little while Razor laughed his head off. The Megalosaurus continued and told how hungry he was, that he ate all the pies. With a saddened look, the Megalosaurus apologized to Pinkie. "It's alright, Peanut, you were just hungry." Pinkie said, calming the Megalosaurus. "Besides we can make another batch of pies, through a montage!" Pinkie exclaimed, looking at the fourth wall.
(Insert random montage music)
The trio gathered up all the ingredients needed to make the pies and put on their own personal aprons with Razor's saying 'Kiss the Baker'. "What? I think I'm pretty charming." Razor said, smirking. Each pony and dinosaur worked on their tasks to complete the pies: Peanut made, flattened, and formed the crust, Razor made the strawberry filling but kept on getting berry juice all over himself, and Pinkie put all the pies in the oven to be baked. When the pies were the finally were done, the three nodded at each other and jumped into the air in celebration.
Meanwhile at the birthday party....
Pumpkin and Pound Cake were sitting down, looking sadly at the absence of their promised party. Many of the party guests were getting bored, Pinkie hadn't shown yet, and the celebration started to look like a snooze fest.
"Don't worry, guys. Pinkie will arrive...eventually." Mr. Cake said, trying to keep the twins excited but to no avail.
"I hope Pinkie arrives soon, this party isn't going so well." Mrs. Cake whispered to her husband.
"Did someone say 'party'? " Pinkie exclaimed as she, Razor, and Peanut, both wearing disguises, launched party decorations and food from three different party cannons. The Cake twins giggled in delight and everyone at the party laughed and danced around in celebration.
"Happy Birthday, Pumpkin and Pound!" Pinkie exclaimed as she pulled the twins in for a hug.
As the party festivities went on and the twins blew out the candles on their birthday pies, Peanut, Razor, and Pinkie watched on, smiling and eating some of the pie. "We did good, guys. We did good." Pinkie said. Peanut and Razor nodded and high-fived Pinkie in agreement.
Deep in the trees of the Everfree Forest, a deer was grazing on some small blades of grass. But this deer wasn't alone for there was a creature hunting it from the shadows. But this was no Manticore or Timberwolf.
No.
This predator was none other than...A DEINONYCHUS!!
..Okay, the build-up was kind of a letdown but stick with me. Speaking anyway, the deinonychus was slowly stalking the deer from the bushes, making sure not to be seen. Suddenly, it pounced onto the deer, using its toe claws to dig into its flesh. The deer kept trying to buck the raptor off until it eventually collapsed.
Deinonychus was bipedal carnivore that lived in the Cretaceous Period from 120-110 million years ago in the USA. It was capable of running at speeds up to 25 miles per hour. This speed allowed it the run down its food. Alongside its speed, Deinonychus had a high intelligence, which allowed these creatures to hunt in packs, easily outnumbering and outcoordinating their prey. This trait wasn't uncommon though in the particular species since it and other raptors shared this.
The deinonychus leapt off its back and looked down upon its now-dead lunch. "Ah yeah! Another successful win for Razor!" Razor the Deinonychus shouted in victory. He suddenly clasped his hands onto to his mouth. "D-Did I just speak?" Razor said questioningly. Oh my God!" "How did this happen?". Razor then looked back at his food."Oh well, no time wonder about that now, it's lunchtime!!", he said rather casually.
Meanwhile in another side of the forest, three small ponies were inside a small hut with a zebra. The three ponies were the Cutie Mark Crusaders, a group of fillies dedicated to helping other ponies find their true calling in life and get their cutie mark. The zebra's name was Zecora, a zebra once thought to be an evil witch who ate young ponies but was actually a kind pony. "This is really good, Zecora" Apple Bloom said, taking another sip of her drink.
"It's delicious!" Scootaloo said.
"Why thank you, Apple Bloom and Scootaloo. It is my own home-made brew," Zecora said.
As Zecora prepared another cup, she noticed something staring back at her through the window. Scared by this she decided to go out and investigate. "I will be back in 3, but do not follow me", Zecora said to the Cutie Mark Crusaders.
"What was that all about?" Sweetie Belle asked.
"Beats me," Scootaloo replied.
At first, when Zecora stepped outside. She didn't notice anything. But then she heard rustling coming from the bushes. Zecora cautiously approached the bushes until three small, fuzzy figures scurried out from the shrubs. "Oh my!", Zecora said the creatures ran between her legs and into her hut.
These creatures were Compsognathus, believed to be the most smallest dinosaur. It was no bigger than a chicken. Yeah, Compsognathus was a far cry from other ferocious, scary dinosaurs you see in the movies. The small critters were believed to have a small coat of feathers across their body and despite their size, were carnivores which was bad news for any small or medium sized animals. This might not go so well for the Cutie Mark Crusaders.
As Zecora rushed back into her hut, she was shocked to see that her home was in complete chaos. There were many knocked over items and broken bottles lying on the floor. Many liquids had been spilled by the compies as they were running amuck. Scootaloo was protecting Sweetie Belle from the little carnivores. Meanwhile, Apple Bloom was busy trying to corral them like cattle. "Get back here, you vermin", Apple Bloom shouted in frustration. One compies just screeched back in response. But then the two other compies joined the first one and swiftly began chasing Apple Bloom. The tables had just been turned. "Zecora!!!!" Apple Bloom shouted in desperation. Zecora quickly snapped out of her gaze and captured the three dinosaurs in a crate. "Thanks, Zecora", Apple Bloom said.
"Your welcome, Apple Bloom.", Zecora said calmly.
"What do ya think it is?" Apple Bloom asked Zecora. Zecora carefully lifted the crate and immediately closed it when the compies tried to get at her eyes.
"Frankly, I am not really sure, young pony." Zecora said.
"I'm not really sure, but they look really creepy to me", said Sweetie Belle. The compies immediately started screeching inside the crate which roughly translated to, "I heard that!".
"We need to show these things to Princess Twilight," said Scootaloo, "Maybe she'll know these are". The three fillies agreed to meet with Twilight tomorrow morning.
A giant shadow of a creature can be seen stepping across the deep-rooted trees. But this was no monster. This was a Parasaurolophus.
Parasaurolophus lived in the Cretaceous Period from 76.5 to 74.5 million years ago in the USA. The Parasaurolophus was a member of the hadrosaur family, a common species in the Cretaceous. Parasaurolophus and its relatives could produce sound from their own personal crests atop their head. Scientists suggest that these sounds were produced for some main uses like stunning predators and for attracting mates.
This Parasaurolophus wasn't alone however. This was a mother. Her baby was very adventurous always curious. "Junior, come along now." the mother Parasaurolophus called. "We have to stick together, especially since we don't know where we are". Junior quickly rushed to his mother's side. He knew as well any other baby animal that he was vulnerable to predators. Still, he just couldn't stop straying away and adventuring. Sometimes he would just walk through the nearby forests and play around little bit.
"Sorry, Mom. I just was being wild like always". His mother gave him a small smile and kissed his little crest.
"I know you are and that's what I love about you" she replied sweetly. Junior smiled back up at his mother. Then he noticed something far out in the distance.
"Hey Mom, do you see that?" Junior asked. Atop the hillside, a small cottage could be seen.
"It looks like a wooden cave" Junior's mom replied.
"Maybe we can sleep there" Junior said.
"I'm not sure, Junior. Won't we be exposed, out in open like that" Junior's mom said cautiously.
"Oh, come on, Mom", said Junior. "I'm sure we'll be fine". Junior's mom looked at horizon as the sun was slowly setting and then she looked back at the cottage. She knew that if they didn't find a place to sleep, they would be sitting ducks for the night predators.
"I guess it is getting dark" Junior's mom said. "I guess we'll be staying there for the night".
"Awesome!", Junior said as he rushed ahead.
"Hold on now, Junior. You're old lady's not as fast as she used to be." Junior's mom joked.
