Dear Princess Celestia and Princess Luna I've been thinking about settling down with Solar Thunder and I can't think of a better place to do so than Canterlot castle. I know this is alot to ask, but maybe we could talk about it over tea tomorrow afternoon at my castle? Yours faithfully, Princess Twilight Sparkle The princesses read the letter, a smile coming to their faces. “Aw, she's truly growing up. I know they have begun to get serious, so I think we could let them settle down here. Twilight does want to be more helpful,” Luna commented. “Yeah, I think if they decided to start a family a foal growing up here would be nice,” Celestia stated. “Well I suppose we should pack a bag if we're going to travel to Ponyville tomorrow,” Luna replied “Yeah, I'll go pack," Celestia replied back. “Why would Twilight want to settle down so quickly, she'd only gotten married last year?" Celestia thought aloud as she walked to her room. -wedding day flashback- “Today we celebrate a wonderful couple, Princess Twilight Sparkle and Solar Thunder,” Celestia exclaimed. She stood at the altar, at the center of the biggest wedding to ever happen in Equestria. From ponies to Hippogriffs, everybody wanted to see Twilight Sparkle marry her true love. Solar Thunder was a white pony with dark grey hair and yellow streaks, his cutie mark was a sun with a grey cloud. He was wearing a black tux with a purple tie just as his soon-to-be wife had requested. He was standing by the altar near Princess Celestia waiting for his bride to arrive. The wedding music began to play and 3 small fillies came out with baskets full of iris petals. Princess Twilight appeared drawing gasps from the crowds. She was gorgeous. She wore a white wedding dress with lilac trim along with her crown. Solar Thunder's eyes widened. He truly loved this mare. Twilight slowly began to walk up to the altar, enjoying every moment. Soon she was at the altar on the opposite side of her soon-to-be husband. Celestia looked at Solar Thunder “Do you, Solar Thunder take this mare to be your lawfully wedded wife?” Solar Smiled. “I do.” She then looked at her former pupil. “Do you, Princess Twilight Sparkle take this stallion to be your lawfully wedded husband?” She blushed and smiled. “I do.” Celestia smiled. “I now announce you husband and wife!” Celestia smiled at the memory, but it also made her sad that her former pupil had grown up. She knew it would happen eventually and of course she was happy for Twilight, but she also felt replaced. She knew she couldn't tell anypony because it would make her look selfish, but she felt it regardless. “I'm all done packing!” Luna appeared suddenly, looking at her saddened sister. “What's wrong Tia?” Celestia looked up. “Hmm? Oh nothing's wrong,” she sighed. “I'm just thinking about the past.” Luna's smile faded. She knew what Celestia was thinking about and so she walked towards her sister. “Twilight cares about you deeply sister, just because she's now married and has different responsibilities that pulls her away from Canterlot does not mean that you cannot be as close as you were, perhaps you could arrange meetings every so often, then you may not feel this way?” Celestia was surprised. “Luna, how did you know what I was thinking?!” Luna smiled. “You have dreams about it. Now go get some rest, I'm just about ready to raise the moon,” and with that she left. Celestia thought about what her sister said. Maybe she would start doing things with Twilight more, like meeting up for coffee once a moon. With that final thought she turned off the light and went to bed. She woke up to her alarm clock ringing. It read 5:45. She knew she had to raise the sun at 6am so she quickly got out of bed and walked towards the balcony where she would do so. She opened the large French doors to find her sister getting ready to lower the moon. "Morning sister,” Luna said through yawns. Celestia couldn't help but feel sorry for Luna, her younger sister barely getting any sleep. “Good morning Luna, you should get some rest, the train isn't until noon.” Luna smiled “I guess I should, I want to have energy for Ponyville. Everypony there is always so upbeat and lively," she lowered the moon as her sister raised the sun. Luna began to walk towards the open French doors, “I'll see you later.” she said as she walked to her room. ++++++++++++++++++++ “I'm so excited to see Twilight, I've not seen her since she came back from her honeymoon!” Luna exclaimed as she and Celestia walked onto the train. “I am too, it's been a while since we've last seen the pair of them,” Celestia agreed as the train began moving. “How long is the trip again luna?” Luna looked at her ticket. “It says it should be around 47 minutes Tia.” "Okay good, I hate long journeys. Usually I'd fly, but since there's two of us I thought we could go by train.” Celestia looked out of the window, smiling as she thought about seeing Twilight again after so long. The train soon pulled into the station, Celestia and Luna quickly grabbing their things and walking off the railroad car. They expected both Twilight and Solar Thunder but to their surprise only Solar Thunder greeted them. “Hello Princess Celestia and Princess Luna,” he said bowing. Luna giggled. “You know you can call us by our first names now that you're a royal.” Solar’s eyes widened. "Alright, Celestia and Luna, that feels weird to say,” Luna chuckled at him. “How come Twilight didn't accompany you?” Celestia asked. “Oh, she's not feeling great.” Celestia and Luna looked at each other. “She seemed perfectly fine when she wrote us a letter yesterday,” Celestia said. Solar looked up, "Yeah she's been like this a lot recently, fine one minute, feeling sick the next. It happens at the worst times like when we're eating or doing chores.” Celestia and Luna shared looks of concern. "I hope she feels better soon,” Celestia sighed as they arrived at the castle. They walked through the familiar corridors. Nothing had changed at all since the last time they were there. Solar lead them to the living room where there was a large fireplace, an L-shaped couch, and a lot of bookshelves. Celestia had always loved how much Twilight loved books. On the couch sat Twilight smiling, four teacups and a pot filled with green tea, Twilight's absolute favourite, in front of her. She immediately stood up and came over to them. “Hey love, I'm glad your back,” she hugged her husband. Celestia’s heart broke, this time two years ago she wouldv’e been that pony but now she was a second choice to Twilight. “Hello Twilight, it has been a while.” Twilight looked behind her husband to see Celestia and Luna. “Hello! I'm so sorry I didn't notice you, I'm so glad you could come! I've prepared some tea and biscuits!” They all walked over to the couch. “So you wanted to talk?” Luna asked. Solar looked at Twilight. “Well yes, but there's more to it than just moving to Canterlot.” Twilight looked at Solar and smiled. “We're having a baby!” Celestia and Luna’s eyes widened with joy, they were so happy for the couple. “That's great! I know you'll be amazing parents!” Luna spoke excitedly. Celestia smiled.“How far along are you?” Solar's face screwed up. “Is it 9 months?” he asked his wife. Twilight nodded. "Yeah, I thought I was just gaining weight. We didn't find out until about a week ago.” “So I take it that you'll want to move to Canterlot as soon as possible since your little foal will be here in around a months time?” Luna inquired. “Yeah that's the plan, but it’s 100% your choice if we can or not.” Celestia and Luna looked over at each other, “Of course you can live in Canterlot Castle!” They both said.
Chapter 1- The New Princess.View OnlineYour mother, the Princess of FriendshipChapter 1- The New Princess.Twilight woke, sitting up and stretching her cramped wings. The sleeping pony beside her stirred before awakening as well. “Don’t you think you should sleep a little more, you were very restless last night," Solar yawned. “Good morning to you too love,” Twilight replied snarkily. The larger stallion laughed as he rolled his eyes, also stretching out his wings. “I think Celestia and Luna are awake, would you like to get some breakfast?” "Like you don't know, breakfast comes before anything else in the morning,” she said as she hopped out of bed. Her husband followed suit as the couple made their way to the large dining room. They opened the doors to find Princess Celestia and Luna sitting, having just begun their own breakfast. “Good Morning you two, did you rest well,” Luna greeted. “Not really, but this one was restless,” she said, looking down at her enlarged stomach. The couple sat opposite each other at the table, Twilight beside Celestia and Solar beside Luna. Celestia spoke while eating her fruit. “Have you thought about any names for the little foal yet?” Twilight looked up from her toast. “I have a few ideas in mind but I don’t think I’ve thought of the perf-“ Twilight immediately stopped talking, a feeling of liquid gushing from her onto the cushion underneath her. Luna noticed the smaller alicorn turn pale. “Are you alright Twilight?” she asked concerned. Twilight looked up. “I, umm think my water just broke.” Everypony's eyes widened. Solar was the first to speak. “I’ll go get the doctor immediately, Luna and Celestia could you please take Twilight to our room?” Twilight stood up, “I’m sure I can walk myse- AHHH!” She bent down in pain. “Nevermind, some magic would really help right now.” Celestia and Luna"s magic engulfed Twilight as they quickly, but carefully, moved her to her bed. Twilight squealed in agony making Luna and Celestia both feel useless. “You're going to be okay, Twilight,” Luna said reassuringly . “OKAY? OKAY! HAVE YOU EVER FELT YOUR INSIDES BEING TORN APART?” Twilight wailed. “Oh no, the royal Canterlot voice,” Luna thought while giggling. A few minutes passed and Solar came back with a doctor. “How is she?” “SOLAR IM ABOUT TO GIVE BIRTH, WHAT IN CELESTIA DO YOU THINK?” She shouted in the royal Canterlot voice that she had learned from her ex-mentor. The doctor approached the bed. “Now, Your Highness I know this may sound harsh but I need you to stay calm, I’ve done this for years. Twilight calmed herself as tears formed in her eyes. She felt a hoof on her right shoulder and she looked to see her former mentor beside her. “Do not worry Twilight, we will all be here for you the whole time,” she said in a more motherly tone rather than as an equal with Twilight. An hour passed of Solar, Luna, and Celestia telling Twilight to keep pushing and comforting her, as well Twilight almost breaking their hooves. “Come on,” the trio said in unison. “Arrggg,” Twilight almost screamed but she stopped as she heard a loud, high pitched cry. The foal had the same orange yellow hair as her father but it had a dark magenta streak and she had alabaster fur. “Congratulations Your Highness, it’s a filly.” Everypony looked at the foal shocked, the small sleeping foal was in fact an alicorn like her mother. the odd thing was that she was the second foal in history to ever be born one, the first being her cousin Flurry Heart. Twilight sat up from her bed“Can I hold her?” she asked weakly, she clearly tired from childbirth. “Of course you can,” the doctor replied. He lifted the filly up from the cot and handed it over to the weak princess. The small filly opened it's eyes to reveal bright magenta eyes and smiled. Solar looked over at his wife and newborn he was at peace, he was finally a father. He looked closer and a surprised look overtook his smile. “Twi, have you noticed she's an alicorn?” Twilight rolled her eyes. “Do you think I couldn't feel it?” Twilight said, laughing. “I've chosen to call her Dawn Sparkle,” she declared. The filly smiled. “I think she likes that name,” Solar laughed. Celestia and Luna were talking in the corner. “That's the second royal filly to be born an alicorn, I still don't understand how it happened with Flurry Heart, but there must be a connection,” Celestia whispered to her sister. Luna only nodded in response, as she was just as shocked. Even alicorns as old as he sister and herself had never heard of a foal being born an alicorn apart from Flurry and Dawn.
Chapter 2- OverthinkingView OnlineYour mother, the Princess of FriendshipChapter 2- Overthinking24 hours have passed since Twilight Sparkle gave birth to her daughter. The world rejoiced at the announcement of the newborn foal. It was near sunset when Twilight looked out of the window of her room. She was laying in bed with her new daughter sleeping in her arms and her husband lying beside her. She was deep in thought. “Hey Solar, could you hold Dawn for awhile? I want to go for a walk.” Solar sighed at her request. “Your meant to be resting, you gave birth only yesterday,” he said in a soothing tone, Twilight giving him a smile back. “I'm sure I can stretch my legs for twenty minutes, I've barely left my bed at all. I don't think I've actually gotten up except to go to the bathroom.” She carefully handed him the sleeping foal and slowly got out of bed. She was still sore, but she had something on her mind that she needed advice on, and who would be better than her all-knowing former mentor. Ever since Twilight moved into Canterlot Castle the walk to Celestia’s quarters was short and brisk compared to how it used to be when she had to walk from her tower. She would've teleported to avoid the pain, but the doctor recommended not using magic for at least forty-eight hours. She reached Celestia’s quarters quickly. She'd been told before that if she ever wanted to talk she could just walk in. Celestia was reading on a cushion beside the warm fire. “Twilight, you're meant to be resting, how are you feeling?” Celestia asked in a soft motherly tone. Twilight sighed. “I feel sore and tired, nothing that you wouldn't expect, I just felt the need to come and see you since I haven't left my room in a while. You know how I hate being stuck in one place." Celestia smiled. “I hope you feel better soon, how is she?” “Shes good, that's actually what I wanted to talk to you about.” Celestia looked up from her book surprised, but she knew Twilight often got all caught up in her thoughts when she didn't speak to someone about them. “Why don't you take a seat Twilight.” Twilight laughed. “It hurts to sit, or lay on my front, may I possibly lay on your daybed?” Celestia nodded. “Of course you can, whatever you're comfortable with.” Twilight slowly walked towards Celestia’s daybed as Celestia also got up and engulfed her pillow in her amber magic to set it near the daybed. She put her book down and gave Twilight her full attention. “What is it you would like to talk about regarding your daughter?” Twilight exhaled. “Just ever since I found out I would have her I've felt different. I've not felt like myself. I'm scared I won't be a good mother to her.” Celestia looked at her former pupil. She knew that this was how she felt, she could tell from the moment Twilight had told them she was expecting. “Twilight, I know you better than anypony, I know for a fact that you will be an amazing mother, just look at how good you were with Spike.” “I guess that is partly true, when he was a baby my parents basically looked after him because I was a filly myself and for the past few years he's looked after himself pretty much, he's running the castle by himself after all.” Celestia thought for a second, she needed to take another approach. “Twilight, I know you have doubts, but you're not alone. You have Solar, your friends and family, and you also have me. I know you are and will continue to be a great mother.” Twilight smiled. “Thanks Celestia, I needed the reassurance.” Celestia smiled back at her student. “I'm glad I could help, just know i’m always here if you need to talk.” Twilight stood up and began walking to the door before wincing and coming to a stop. “On second thought, can I stay for awhile, I'm still quite sore.” Celestia nodded. “Of course you can Twilight, I enjoy your company.” Twilight slowly walked to the daybed again lying down, her eyes beginning to droop as she quickly fell asleep. Celestia watched for a moment as memories of young Twilight falling asleep in that very daybed brought a smile to her face. She got up and put a blanket over the sleeping mare. She knew that Twilight really needed rest. She'd heard the small filly down the hall was quite active last night, which of course was expected as most newborn fillies were similar. Twilight woke up to the dimly lit room, the only sources of light the fireplace and a lamp close by. Near the lamp lay Princess Celestia who was reading a book. She looked up as she noticed that Twilight had awakened. “Somepony must of been tired,” Celestia smiled. “You were asleep for just over an hour.” Twilight's eyes widened. “They must need me, after all Dawn was quite unsettled last night,” Twilight yawned. “I think I should go back to my room. I'll just put up with the pain, I mean, every mare goes through it after they have a foal.” Celestia smiled. “Alright, make sure you rest though, I shall see you soon Twilight.”
Chapter 3- The day before it all changedView OnlineYour mother, the Princess of FriendshipChapter 3- The day before it all changedIt has been twelve years since Princess Dawn Sparkle was born and she couldn't have been any different than her mother had been as a filly, she had a lot of close friends, whilst loving to read, but she was very intelligent and talented with her magic. It was a hot July morning, the sun had just risen, the air was warm and relaxed. The streets were busy with ponies who were getting to work and early appointments, but that was normal ———————————— There was a knock at her door, she woke up with a start and looked at the clock beside her bed, it read 6.30 am, “You have to get up Dawn, today is your coronation rehearsal remember?” her mom, Princess Twilight shouted through the door. Dawn has never been that close with her mom, she has always really wanted to be but they just have absolutely nothing in common and she was always on royal duties with her friends ‘saving Equestria’, duty had always come first for her mum. So she had spent most of her childhood with the royal sisters. She was way closer with Princess Celestia and her dad as they all enjoyed watching sports, they had always gone to the Wonderbolts together to watch her Aunt Rainbow who was the coolest aunt ever, apart from her Aunt Pinkie of course who is the funniest pony She knew, Dawn would babysit for Pinkies daughter a lot also. Dawn may have hated reading, but in her opinion, she had the best teacher, her Aunt Celestia, since she is the current ruler of Equestria and is training her to be the next great ruler. Celestial has always been more of a mother figure than a teacher though, and she surprisingly understands way more than her mother ever has. If Dawn ever needed to ask for advice about anything she always had an answer, they even had nicknames for each other because Dawn could never pronounce ‘Celestia’ as a filly, so she decided to call her Celery and the name just sort of stuck ever since. She waited about five minutes after her mom had woken her up, it was not intentional but reality sort of hit her as she realised that she was officially becoming a princess tomorrow, and then once she turns of age she will become the ruler of all of Equestria. Finally, after staring at the roof for well over five minutes she jumped out of bed and magically pulled the covers so it was made again ready for her to get into it tonight. “I still think its too early to get up, but if Aunt Celestia can do it so can I” she said to herself as she walked into her private bathroom. In her opinion she had the best view in all of Equestria, as her bedroom was in the east tower so she would always have front row seats for the sunrise if she woke up early enough. She yawned and got into the shower, washing herself up for breakfast, she could smell the pancakes from here. Her Aunt Celestia usually made pancakes, she always said it was the only thing she was good at cooking. Right she was, I have never known anypony to make better pancakes. Dawn bounced out of the shower. One positive of her coronation was that she would get to see her best friend of all time! Her cousin Flurry Heart! Together they always pulled pranks and threw the best sleepovers, but as she lived in the Crystal Empire they only seen each other at important gatherings like the Equestria Games. Once she had finished drying her hair she made her way to the dining hall, she was once again humming to one of her favourite songs and sniffing the air, bacon and pancakes, her absolute favourite! Immediately when she reached the colossal dining room doors, the two guards stationed there bowed and opened the doors straight away. She nodded her head in thanks and walked in to her family, everyone was there except her Aunt Luna but that was typical as she usually only got to bed around 4am, she would show up around lunchtime. “Good Morning Dawn” her mom, Twilight said routinely smiling at her daughter. “Did you sleep well last night?” Dawn looked away in thought. “No, not really” she said quite quickly, hoping no one heard her. Twilight, Solar and Celestia all gave her looks of concern, they all clearly heard her quiet remark. They were quiet for an instant then her father, Solar spoke up. “How come sweet pea, you’re usually not the one to not sleep well we usually don't see you until lunchtime.” He spoke through laughter. Dawn frowned slightly, clearly irritated by her fathers behaviour. She stood up, her face turning slightly red. “Maybe it’s because I’m twelve and yet I have the whole of Equestria on my back! First of all my coronation is tomorrow, secondly from tomorrow everything I do will matter, the public will go crazy anytime they see me in public, and Thirdly, as soon as I become of age i’m going to be thrown on the throne for the rest of my days!” She was crying now, but she was glad to get it off her chest. Her parents were stunned, but Celestia wasn’t fazed, she knew how she felt she could see it. Dawn slowly got up from the table. “Excuse me.” She said quietly, just loud enough for them to hear and she ran to her room. She ran into her room and locked the door, she then jumped onto her bed and began to cry more, she didn’t know why she got angry so fast but she did and it was done. Someone knocked her door unexpectedly. “Dawn, please may I come in?” It was her aunt Celestia and she sounded worried. Dawn sniffed and swiftly replied. “Yes,” she climbed off her bed and unlocked the door, she let her aunt walk in and immediately locked the door again, she walked towards her balcony Celestia followed. “What was that about Dawn, you just all of a sudden got angry when your father asked how come you didn’t sleep well.” Celestia asked with an uneasy look. Dawn didn’t say anything, but she ran towards her aunt and hugged her, Celestia put her wing over her like a blanket. She sniffed then responded, not to her aunts question, but with her own question. “How did you do it?” Celestia immediately knew what she had meant, how had she held it all together, she looked down at her small niece, “to be completely truthful Dawn, I struggled just like you did with becoming a princess and ruling, but it gets easier once you get used to the idea of it.” Dawn’s eyes widened, “you did? But how did you manage?” She asked bewildered, she had always seen her aunt as a regal ruler, she never imagined that she felt the same way. “Well Dawn, I simply trusted myself, I knew that I knew everything I needed to know about my role, and that I had people such as my sister, family and friends to guide me, much the same as you will have. You’re more similar to your mother than you’ll ever know.” “Yeah, I look up to her so much buy I just wish her duty wasn’t more important than her spending time with me, she is always away ‘saving Equestria’ or she’s in a meeting with her friends, and she’s never here to spend time with me, the only reason she is here at the moment is because she has to be for my coronation.” She said quite rapidly. Celestia looked right at Dawn, “I know it may seem that way to you, but trust me she loves you more than anypony, she just wants to make sure Equestria is safe for you, believe me I know she loves you.” Celestia said whilst smiling. Dawn hugged her more, “you’ve always been the best with making me feel better, Aunt Celery.” She said whilst laughing. Celestia rolled her eyes, “I still don’t understand how that name suits me, I hope it’s because I don’t smell of celery.” She said, Dawn was now trying to speak through fits of laughter but couldn’t, “why don’t you come back down and finish breakfast, and then if you up to it we could have a lesson or two before the rehearsal.” Celestia queried “What if my parents are angry with me, it wasn’t very civil or me to lash out.” She spoke while circling her hoof. Celestia smiled down at her, “I can tell you that they are not angry in the slightest, but they were worried about you.” Dawn looked up at Celestia, “can you keep our conversation between us, I don’t want to sound like I’m craving their attention.” Celestia smiled back at her, “Ofcourse, I can, after all you’re old enough for us to not have to tell your mother everything, but that does not mean you don’t tell her things,” Celestia said in a stern tone, “anyways, let’s go and finish off breakfast.” Dawn and Celestia began walking back down to the dining hall, but Dawn was still worried that she had let her parents down by her sudden outburst, when she reached the dining room she was met with smiles, they almost looked fake. They both sat down and finished breakfast, it was not as nice as usual because it was lukewarm but that was her fault. After breakfast it was time for her teleportation lesson, she had been studying the subject for just less than two weeks so she had the gist of it but she had to put it into practise. Since the sun was shining and there wasn’t a single cloud in the sky Celestia had decided that they could practise in the Royal Gardens. “Remember what I’ve taught you, think exactly of the place you want to teleport, picture it very clearly in your mind.” Celestia said sternly, teleportation could be a dangerous thing, you could teleport anywhere and it could take days if not weeks to get back home if something were to go wrong.” Dawn smiled, “you think I can't handle it Celery?” she said jokingly. “Oh I know you can do it, but you may be slightly off on the first try, but that's always expected, it took your mother about three tries but she was a unicorn at that point.” Celestia replied. “Just as long as you don't teleport out of Canterlot ill call it a success, when your Aunt Luna was learning I'm pretty sure she ended up in the Crystal Empire.” Celestia laughed, “I think today as we are slightly behind schedule you may only get one attempt in, but who knows, your very intelligent so it may only take you one try, attempt to teleport beside me,” Dawn nodded, she began to charge up her horn, and thought of where she wanted to teleport just like her books had said, she then charged her magic as much as she could and she popped out of view, a few seconds later she emerged beside Celestia. “No way I did it first try!” She said jumping in excitement. “I cannot believe it!” Celestia smiled brighter than she had in years. "Well, I'm impressed. I never thought anypony would be able to teleport perfectly on their first try, nevermind at twelve. I am so proud of you Dawn, but I think we should start heading back for the rehearsal.” The pair walked up laughing, Dawn was finally accepting becoming a princess and eventually ruling, but in the back of her mind she was still worried, what if a war happened, what if a rebellion happens, what if she says something wrong at a gathering? The what if game is dangerous when it comes to being an over thinker, if you think about it what of isn't a game but a possibility.
