The Future Will Change
Episode II: Mere Jobbers
Previous ChapterNext ChapterAs she watched everyone’s belongings float away, Silver Spoon couldn’t simply remain idle anymore.
“...screw it,” she muttered as she got up from the table.
As their daughter ran off, Argent would call out, “Hey, kiddo! Where are you--?!”
“Stay back! There’s robbers near here!” Silver Spoon shouted.
Sure enough, as she rounded the corner, she saw several people wearing jet-black hoodies. They were using magic to steal from as many people as they could! But as soon as they saw Silver Spoon, they chuckled.
“Well if it isn’t the byproduct of one of the richest families in the city,” one of the thieves sneered.
“What are you gonna do?” another thief, a female, called out, “Throw money at us? Bribe us?”
They started to laugh as Silver Spoon twirled a small, silver, kunai-like dagger in one of her hands.
“I’m going to ask that you return everything you stole,” she commanded as she pushed up her glasses with her free hand, “And for the record, you’re not even good thieves. I mean, seriously? Stealing handbags off of people in broad daylight? If you’re gonna be a criminal, at least do it right.”
“Hey! This is the perfect spot!” one of the thieves debated, “Hardly any cops come through here!”
Silver Spoon rolled her eyes. “Right. I guess you didn’t account for the fact that citizens are legally allowed to respond with force if they’re being threatened.”
“Pssh!” one of them scoffed, “And just what kinda force could a little wimpy girl like you do to us?”
As the banter continued, one of the thieves used his magical abilities to forcefully pull one of the nearby stop signs on the street corner behind Silver Spoon. And just when it came loose--!
SHING!
“...!”
Silver Spoon ducked underneath the sign just in time as it whizzed past her head. Almost immediately afterwards, one of the thieves dashed towards her with a pocket knife and tried to swipe at her with it, only for Silver Spoon to grab the thug’s wrist with her hand just in time! The guy gasped; he wasn’t expecting that.
“What the--?!”
CRACK!
With a quick spin, Silver Spoon spun around and dealt a swift roundhouse kick to the thug’s midsection, sending him flying backwards into his fellow thieves.
“ARGH!” he shouted upon hitting the ground. The others glanced at him with dumbfounded expressions on their faces, wondering how someone so petite could throttle a grown man.
Silver Spoon bent forward taunting them as she adjusted her glasses again. “Mmm…yup. Hole in one. Alright, who’s next?”
“...”
The rest of the thieves immediately turned and started to run!
“Of course. Little roaches scatter once they get stepped on…” Spoon scoffed as she threw her dagger into the air ahead of them.
With an instantaneous blink, she teleported from where she stood to the location of her dagger in front of the remaining three thieves who stopped and gasped once she appeared in front of them.
“AH! Please don’t hurt us!”
“We’re sorry! We’ll give everything back!”
“And march straight to the police station afterwards, hm?” she asked with a nonchalant expression, hands on her hips.
“...W-well…”
Silver Spoon raised an eyebrow whilst twirling her dagger on her finger once more. “Hm?”
“Y-yes ma’am!”
After a swift altercation, the thieves would return the belongings to every patron at the burger stand, narrowly avoiding getting themselves pepper sprayed by a few bitter elderly women in the process. Immediately afterwards, a police officer that was called to the scene by one of the victims made a formal arrest and took the four criminals away.
Silver Spoon sat down at the table with her parents and huffed. “Hmph. Bastards having to attack now of all times…”
“Language, kiddo,” her father scolded her, then changed his tune, “...but I gotta admit, that was pretty cool what you did. Where did you learn to fight like that? And those quips--you were like a superhero,” he added with an enthusiastic smile.
“I think she learned that from those comic books she reads,” her mother interjected, “The ones with the sweaty vampire men--”
“MOM PLEASE--”
“They’re good reads, though!”
Silver Spoon reached under her glasses and rubbed her eyes. “...I regret everything…”
A few minutes later, the owner of the burger stand would approach them with their usual order on different trays. A double chili cheeseburger, jalapeno chili bowl, and chocolate shake for Silver Lining, a massive quad-burger, chili cheese fries, and beer for Argent Rush, and a chili burger, chili dog, and chili tortilla-chip bag with a an iced tea for Silver Spoon.
“Thanks Mr. Takeshi,” Silver Spoon thanked him.
The older gentleman with a dragon tattoo that went up his neck simply bowed in response. “You’re very welcome, child. Ah. Your old teacher visits me quite often. Very good student he said about you.”
“...really? I…thank you, sir. Which one exactly?”
