The Future Will Change
Episode XXVIII: Agent Of Chaos
Previous ChapterNext ChapterThe problem here was twofold:
How could Aidon and Luna inform the funeralgoers of what was happening without showing their faces? After all, given that they were still mutated themselves, it wouldn’t be a good idea to simply show up and try to inform them of what was happening.
Likewise, even if they could explain what was going on, what were the chances of the crowd actually believing what they had to say? There was simply no good answer to this question.
However, Aidon did notice that no one had their phones out yet. So there was no chance of the curse spreading…for now.
“Hrm,” he muttered, “...we have some time until they bring out their devices.”
Luna would place her fist in her open palm as her tail wagged fiercely. “Okay, Aidon. I have an idea. It seems as if my power as a fox enables me to travel faster than anyone can see.”
“Yes, that’s what I’ve noticed so far,” he replied with a nod, “But how will this help us? What do you intend to do, Luna?”
“I scurry through the crowd and swipe everyone’s cellphones off of their person,” she added as she raised her paw-hands and wiggled her fingers, “If the curse travels through screens, then we just have to remove them until our culprit shows up.”
Aidon raised an eyebrow. “...are you certain this is a good idea, Luna?”
Luna folded her arms with a confident smile. “Please, dear--I’ve been a vice principal for years. I’m more than used to swiping away phones by this point.”
Well Aidon certainly couldn’t argue with that, but the droopy nature of his ears displayed a sense of worry. “...touche,” he replied with a sigh, “Well, if you’re certain. Just…don’t get yourself hurt, alright?”
“Don’t worry,” Luna replied with a smile as she kissed him on the cheek, “I’ll be faster than anyone can see.”
With that, Aidon nodded, and accepted her decision. Luna exited the vehicle and crouched down to the ground on all fours to flex and stretch her foxy body from her tail to her claws. From there, she eyed up each and every member of the funeral congregation and sniffed the air.
“...as I expected, they all have at least one mobile device. Alright…”
SHOOM!
Luna took off in a dark blue blur around the funeral procession. Thankfully it didn’t seem as if anyone noticed her.
Aidon meanwhile, would keep his nose and ears close to the ground in order to make sure nothing went wrong. But something about the environment caught his attention. A smell that his sensitive canine nose couldn’t help but detect.
“...what a minute? What’s this aura that I’m sensing? It’s…oddly familiar.”
What he didn’t know was that he was detecting the aura of Eris herself. The woman’s police car had pulled up about one block away from where he was. At this point, there was no doubt that Eris was indeed the true Eris from Equestria, and Discord’s maniacal cousin. Unfortunately, no one was able to put that detail together quite yet.
Which is exactly why Eris was able to get away with her crimes in this world. With no one to keep track of her chaos magic, she was free to do as she pleased. Which included…
“...heh-heh. Dumbasses falling for the old voice-modification trick every single time,” she snickered to herself within her police car. Indeed. As it turned out, Eris was the one behind the phone calls that Aidon had been receiving this entire time. The reason?
“Just one more chaotic incident and my power will be fully restored,” she gloated to herself as she clenched her fist. “All I need to do is wait for these people to pull out their phones, get infected with the Anima Curse, go insane, and soak up all of their juicy chaos…”
But just as she thought her plan was foolproof, she caught a glimpse of Luna speeding by with her foxy agility and swiping the phones off of everyone present. She immediately spit out her coffee as a knee-jerk reaction.
“Pppbbht!” she wiped her lips and focused hard. Given that she was a (slowly recovering) goddess, she was able to see Luna move in slow-motion, and could immediately pick out that it was her. “...well, well, well. The underdog eternally living in someone else’s shadow. Luna was a bit of a pain as a crybaby bitch with dream powers back in Equestria, and she’s still a thorn in my side here too,” Eris chuckled angrily as she stepped out of her vehicle. “...guess the blue cunt is on my hit list toda--”
“I don’t think so, mate.”
“...?!” Eris whipped her head around to see the blue oni woman, Aoife, standing there with a hand on her hip.
“You the one that made that boy kill himself, didn't you? You ain’t mean’ta be here,” Aoife commented with a stern glare on her face, “You’re an abnormality that needs to piss off before I make you.”
Eris looked down at the ground with a dark smirk on her face. “...so the paranormal agency has finally caught up to me, huh? Fine…I can deal with this. You’ve got nothing on me anyway. What gives you the right to come after me like this?”
Aoife raised her other hand--an electrical aura pulsated through her muscular bicep. “...Things like you don’t deserve rights.”
