Into the city

Dari did it. She had absorbed as much magic as she could and then released it all, causing herself, the gates and a hell of a lot of Changelings to explode. I was completely blind for a few moments, only seeing the bright light, but when my vision did return, I was on the floor, my leg wound was open and bleeding again and Rainbow Dash was shouting at me. I looked to the sky to see thousands of Changelings flying toward the battle. I had no idea where they came from, but either way, our small army would be over run very quickly.

"We gotta go!" I suddenly heard Rainbow Dash shout, I felt hooves around me as Heart Breaker picked me up and began dragging me. I was in pure shock.

"We have to go back." Fluttershy was saying.

"No Fluttershy, if we free the guards inside we may still have a chance at winning this!" Twilight shouted, I hated the idea of leaving all those ponies to their soon on coming deaths, but Twilight was right. I began to run to the burning walls and we raced through the gap Dari had left us. I slowed at the rubble for a second. I found her bloodied, burned body among the rubble. There was no time for a proper burial.

"Rest Dari. You fought well." I said, I thought and had to push aside the thought of Twilight and Rarity trying to heal the Siren, but I knew she was gone and the two unicorns magic would be needed more after the fight.

We ran through beginnings of the burned, abandoned city, fighting back the few Changelings that remained guard. They clearly knew that they would win with the odds being in their favour. Badly.

We nearly made it to the courtyard of the castle, where we presumed the guards would be kept, when a tall, darker looking Changeling came down. Twilight's horn began glowing straight away and I looked to the enemy as he changed. Dark cyan skin, a scar on his front leg, red eyes glowing in the sunlight. This was the Changeling that had pretended to be me.

"I'll deal with him. You ponies go. Free the guards." I said and got my spear ready. The enemy prepared to charge. Despite my poor skills in combat, I could win it. Maybe. I ran forward, so did the fake me.

"Twilight shot him!" I heard Rainbow Dash say, but it was too late, we were on each other.

The enemy broke my spear, doing some move spinning over my head and smashing a hoof down on the shaft of the spear. I doubled over to land a punch that he was already coming in for, I ducked down quickly and jumped onto him, causing us both to topple onto the ground. We rolled around on the floor for a second when I saw a blast of purple light hit the ground next to us. I caught a glance at Twilight as the Changeling and myself fought on the scarred earth.

"Which one do I shot?" Twilight shouted. Both the Changeling and myself replied with "him". Rainbow and the rest just watched in horror as the two of us battled.

"For Celestia's sake Twilight shot the Changeling! I died for you ponies twice, don't you forget that, if you shot me, I can go down, again knowing that your all safe. But until then, I will defend you all with all the damn Sacrifice in me!" I shouted and kicked the Changeling who was pushed back. I saw Rainbow Dash gasp, maybe from the shock that maybe I may have just taken a hit. Twilight's horn began glowing again, I smiled for a moment before she shot. The magic shot out of her horn and into its target.

The Bloody Skulls continued to fight, Cypher, with a bandage on and the arrow removed now stood in the fight once again. The group had heard the explosion and it was Razor to point out the gates, along with a lot of the wall, had gone.

"Come on!" Cypher shouted, stabbing a Changeling. "We can take the city, we just have to charge!" He added. Lez thought about it for a few moments and nodded, he prepared himself for a run, as did the rest of the team.

"Lets do this! Skulls! Skulls with me!" Lez shouted and ran forwards, stabbing at any Changeling in range. The group was quickly stopped however when Zero cried out, everypony looked to see another horde of the enemy swarming the sky, shooting magic and fire down upon the field.

"Holy shit! There are too many! We are outnumbered by loads now!" Zero shouted as the Changelings began flying down to attack. Stone Mountain also stood still.

"Its been an honour my friends." He said. Lex Dresdal couldn't believe his ears.

"Oi." He said. "Enough of this crap, get back to fighting." He said.

"But cap'n." Zero groaned.

"If you give up they will kill us anyway, we aren't called the fucking Bloody Skulls for no damn reason. We will go down fighting a dozen of those green bastards! We ain't fucking dead yet! Now, keep pushing!" Lez shouted, after a moment of pause the Bloody Skulls got back to the fight.

Steven the serpent was bleeding in more places than he cared to want, Changeling dead or passed out lay all around him and Nick, they had managed to push the enemy back a little and cleared some path for ponies coming late who only just saw the flyers or heard about the battle and wanted to join. None of the Dwarven race of the Sky Dwellers had come, but after the apparent attack at their city, from what Rainbow Dash and Dari had said, they probably wouldn't come, either rebuilding or gathering the leaders for some political debate, as their laws go. The Sky Dwellers, being a more, loner race of ponies didn't directly follow Celestia's rules and law, but made their own and expanded outside and in, Equestria in clans or cities without trade from other pony realms. Steven may be an Everfree creature but the old books in the ruined castle had given him quite a bit of knowledge. Nick on the other hand, or other knife, no pun intended, had been magically brought into the world by Twilight's, possibly hormonally driven magic.

"Changlings!" Nick suddenly shouted, looking to the sky. Steven also looked and saw the hundreds more Changelings flying in to join the fight. Meaning the pony army was now vastly outnumbered, out magiced and out, out anything. Unless the ponies release the guards inside Canterlot, the attackers had no chance. Even with the guards, Steven wasn't sure if he would ever see his river again.

"Nick, just want to tell you, in case, in case we don't make it-" Steven began, only to be put off by the blood soaked knife.

"Steven, we will make it." Nick said.

"But if we don't-"

"Steven, I promise you, my word as a knife, that we will get out of this alive and in one piece." Nick said, truthfully.

"Still, just want you to know, your the best magical, talking, impossible knife I know, your my best friend Nick." Steven replied after a short pause.

"Wow Steven, going all emotional. Your my best friend too, for a serpent I mean." Nick replied and continued to fight, as did Steven, who very much hoped Nick was right about surviving this battle.
