Toward the gates of the Changeling city

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

I ran forward, stabbing at any and every Changeling I saw. All of us; Dari, Heart Breaker, Twilight, Dashie, Pinkie, Rarity, AJ and Fluttershy, who was doing surprisingly well, all ran toward the gates of Canterlot. I saw they were firmly closed and Twilight apparently also noticed. She ordered a halt and we made formation in a circle, fighting back the swarms of the enemy. I looked to Twilight before she opened her mouth to speak.

"How do we get them open?" She asked. I really hated the idea of what came into my head, but I'd always wanted to do it to something.

"Blow them up." I said. Twilight gave me a strange glare then gave up an argument and nodded. "Let's just get there first eh?" I added and we rushed forward again, toward the walls, ducking on coming spells and bombarding Changelings.

I stabbed the spear into a Changeling and ducked under a spell. We were so near the gates, I could see them from here.

"Come on!" I shouted. Then, we charged forward once again, clearing the enemy that stood in our path.

Lex Dresdal and the rest of the Bloody Skulls were in the centre of the fight, encircling themselves and fighting back the Changeling army with spears and swords and spells.

Stone Mountain had lost his weapon and was just kicking and punching the Changelings. Due to his awesome strength, speed and skill he was quickly actually killing them, or badly knocking the enemy out. The unicorns of the group were launching volley upon volley of spells, breaking the ranks of the enemy and scattering them with huge fire bomb spells. Cypher suddenly shouted out in pain and Lex looked from the bloodied figure on the end of his spear toward his friend. The pony had a small, yet still clearly painful arrow stabbed into his shoulder and was holding it to stop blood loss. Zero was already there, looking at the injury and healing Cypher as best he could with the gear the pony had brought. Lex called for Razor to come and take his place. Naturally the pony hadn't been shocked by the size of the army at all and just blurred through each movement, leaving a dozen or so Changelings dead besides him. He was carrying one of Cypher's inventions of two long knives attached to a saddle and some wiring attached to his head and legs. Where in if Razor moved the knives would jab forward too. So he could quickly swoop into charges and rush through enemies without a delay. With the mouth piece it allowed him to pull it back to stop the knives cutting into friendly troops if he needed to talk to them or they got in the way.

Lex went over to see his friend to look at the damage. Zero had given the pony a stick to bite on and was attempting to pull the arrow out.

"How is he?" Lex asked. Looking at the brave genius, who gave a pissed off and in pain look in return.

"Cypher. He'll be fine. It was a small arrow, not to deep and didn't hit anything important as far as I can tell, I'd say it was just one, lone stray arrow. Nothing aimed or anything. As soon as I can get the arrow out. I can treat him, just cover me will ya?" Zero replied. Lex nodded and jumped back into the battle.

Nick and Steven were slowly pushing forward. The Changelings were falling by the dozen, despite Steven not meaning to.

Due to the tightly packed groups the enemy had put themselves into meant that nearly every step the Serpent took meant he would either trip of kick a Changeling or two. Nick, still ridding on his back was having a great time, watching his friend walk through the Changeling horde like they were just mud he was pushing away.

"This is going to ruin my hair. Look! Its already out of place and the spells these Changelings are positively covering me in green, green yuck." Steven complained. Nick just laughed even harder.

"You know, your the weapon here, jump down and help will you?" Steven said. Laughing a little himself.

"How dare you. I am a royal knife once used for cutting food by Celestia herself. I am no ordinary knife to be ruined or thrown away like in the past." Nick joked and began to climb down to fight. As much as Nick wanted to help, he didn't like the idea of covering himself in blood. But Nick jumped to the floor anyway and began stabbing at Changeling's legs.

A group of crossbow bearing Changelings had rushed out of the gate and began to fire upon the battlefield, being the closest to the walls, we were the ones to get most arrows heading our way. One arrow, a small one, shot over my head and landed somewhere far behind me. I stabbed at another Changeling and called the others. Some of the Changelings had begun changing into actual ponies, but Twilight shot spells at them. She had hit me twice alone out of worry and given me a huge headache for a few seconds. I ordered for us all to take out the archers before they hit one of us, but I was way to late. I turned to look to the group behind me, only to see Dari, with an arrow lodged into her body. I had been an awkward shot, but the arrow was clearly in deep, and despite Dari's healing spells and holding the wound, blood kept pouring. We all saw she was a goner. The wound was too deep and too awkward to get the arrow out anyway.

"Leave me." Dari groaned. "Get the gates open." She pleaded, then her eyes shot open. "No. Cover me." She finally said and began to fly. She screamed out in pain but didn't fail. Everypony stared at her, not knowing what she was doing. Arrows wizzed past her and she kept flying for the gates. I realised what she was lanning when she began to glow brightly.

"Cover her Twilight!" I shouted. We only had one chance at this. Dari knew that too. The last Siren. Twilight began to shot spells toward the archer Changelings in hope of drawing their fire away from the flying Pegasus Elf. I was biting my lips in fear. Dari was going to make it.

She finally reached the top of the gates, when an arrow struck her in the forehead. I cried out. Dari couldn't have died, she was going to open the gates! But then, something unexpected happened. Dari survived the arrow and began glowing even more. Any spells the Changelings were shooting at us suddenly jerked back toward Dari. Her eyes were flaming white fire and her whole body was consumed by the purple glow. I stared for a few moments, then there was a huge bang of an explosion and the world turned white and quiet.
