(BANG!) (BANG!) (BANG!)

“ANUBIS!! Get out here now, I’ve already sent a guard to alert the Princess. We can’t let this slide, not this time.”

Princess Silverfeather stiffened up and her pupils shrunk to pin pricks, her mind was racing. What was she going to do, she couldn’t just fly out the window. She was trapped in a room with an unconscious griff that had just drugged himself and clearly stolen from that storeroom. If her mom or dad found out, they would lose their minds and her life would be over. What was she going to do.

She ran over and vigorously shook the unconscious griff, trying to wake him up, Silver began to panic. The incessant knocking wasn’t helping to keep her calm either.

Meanwhile back in the castle garden, princess Celestia had just finished apologising to the Doctor she had sent for. Whilst Queen Blackfeather suppressed a giggle at her friend’s expense. “Not a single word from you blackfeather.” The embarrassed Alicorn huffed out at the black and blue griffon.

“But i very rarely get to see you embarrassed.”

“Yeah that’s been happening more since Anubis started living in the castle.”

“Ooh is that so, do you like this Anubis?” She was giving Celestia a knowing smile.

“Yes I do enjoy his company, why do you ask?”

“Oh because you seemed to be very protective of him and not in the motherly sense. Have you found yourself watching him more, trying to speak with him every chance you get?”

Celestia’s cheeks turned a soft shade of pink and she cleared her throat. “Whatever you’re thinking, it’s wrong Blackfeather.”

“Then why is he still living here?”

“Well…. Because he has no where to go and he hasn’t even been to school. I couldn’t just let him out into the world.”

Blackfeather gave Celestia a look of disbelief. “Has he ever left the castle grounds, since he’s got here?” Celestia didn’t respond and the silence gave the griffon queen all the information she needed.

“Celestia you can’t just keep him here forever, that’s unfair on the griff and if you don’t act on your feelings he’ll be stolen from underneath your muzzle.”

“Look I do.” Celestia was swiftly cut off by a panting pegasus guard. “Princess Celestia.” The guard saluted. Celestia told the guard to continue.

“Dr Tender Care requests your assistance with Anubis. He said to meet him at the griffon’s room, dr tender says that it’s of the up most urgency.” The guard didn’t get any response, Celestia had teleported herself and Blackfeather before the guard could finish. The guard looked around and quickly ate one of the tea cakes.

Celestia and Blackfeather popped into existence and saw a furious Doctor Tender and a worried Nurse Sweet Tone out side Anubis’s door. She wondered why Tender was so angry, then Sweet Tone noticed the royals approaching. “Princess Celestia, Queen Blackfeather. Anubis has done something…. He shouldn’t have and he could be in danger if he’s messing with things he doesn’t understand.” Sweet Tone bowed to them.

“Rise Sweet Tone, your going to have to be more clear about this, what’s he done and why’s Tender so mad?”

Sweet hesitated for a second. “He when into dr Tender’s office and made a bit of a mess looking for the keys to the medical storeroom and he’s stolen a few things from there and is now locked himself in his room. We don’t know what he has in there.” Sweet Tone blurted out.

Then dr Tender spoke. “A mess is a massive understatement, it looks like a dragon came crashing through the window. He’s also not answering me.”

Sweet Tone snapped at Tender. “Probably because you’re shouting at him.” The look of shame was apparent on Tender’s face.

“Yeah I guess I may have overreacted, sorry Sweet Tone. I’ve probably made it worse, especially with what he’s been through.”

“Please Dr allow me to try, he might be more willing to open the door if it somepony he calls a friend.”

“I understand princess but I don’t want to risk the griff’s safety, if he doesn’t answer I vote we kick down the door.”

“I’d rather not have to do that but we can’t risk it doctor. Blackfeather do you think you could help?”

“No I doubt it Celestia, but he might respond a bit better to a creature that’s more like him.” Celestia approached the doors and knocked gently.

“A gentle tone called out. “Anubis, are you okay? I’ve heard about what you’ve done. I can assure you that I’m not going to shout. Please open this door.”

———————————————————————

On the other side of the door a scared, panicked blue and gray Griffon paced back and forth coming to terms with the end of the world. But in an act of defiance, she slapped the unconscious griff across the face and to her relief he started to wake. That relief was short live because she was now trapped in a room with a drugged griffon and still no way out without being seen. “Psssss wake up you’re being called, get up weirdo.” She began to shake him but he was in a daze, his eyes must have been rolling around in his head for he didn’t react to anything.

Unfortunately the griffon princess failed to notice that the knocking and requests to have the door open had stopped. Instead the door exploded off its hinges and Silver’s heart stopped at the thought of how bad this looks. She was looming over the disoriented griffon and she had gotten very close to his face in her panic. All she could do is give the surprised Alicorn a nervous smile and spoke. “H-Hi princess, it’s not what it looks….” She trailed off when her eyes met her mother’s and she knew it was pointless to even try for her mother would not listen to her side . All she had to say was a simple. “Shoot.”

“SILVER!?!?” Both Celestia and Blackfeather shouted, one was confused the other was furious. Silver prayed that it would be quiet and painless. But little did she know that her saving grace would be the red pony doctor. He was the first to rush in and immediately started to check the griffon that silver had in her talons. “Do you know what happened to him princess Silverfeather? Any information will help.”

She stuttered out. “Um h-he mixed a b-bunch of those bottles together, then he injected it into his foreleg. I don’t really know too much about science, sorry.”

“Don’t apologise princess, the information you gave will help us save him. Nurse bring that oxygen tank in here, his breathing is weak. We have a pulse, thankfully.” He muttered that last thing under his breath.

Celestia wanted to help but Blackfeather stopped her from interrupting the doctors work. “He’s going to be fine Celestia you don’t need to worry.” All whilst the nurse ran to get more medical staff to assist.

Celestia looked as if she had seen a ghost, her eyes were wide and fixed on Anubis. Her breathing was sporadic. Blackfeather needed to get her out of this room before she did something stupid, but how does one move an Alicorn that doesn’t want to budge?

Then Celestia’s voice rang out but lacked the usual grace It normally was accompanied with. “Doctor I-is he going to be okay, he’s fine right dr Tender Care?”

“Princess I need to focus on making sure he keeps breathing, please wait outside we’re going to need the extra room.”

Nurse Sweet Tone returned with a full team of doctors and they immediately got to work transporting the griffon on to a stretcher. Princess Celestia had calmed down at this point but was still on edge from the shock. Anubis was now on his way to the emergency room but Celestia was held back by her friend. “Let me go Blackfeather I need to help.”

“No Celestia let the professionals take care of him. They’re trained to handle these situations.”

“But….”

“He’s going to be fine, i mean the griff did walk away from crashing face first into the ground so this isn’t anything to worry about.”

(Sigh) “we don’t even know what he injected into himself, what if.” Celestia was cut off swiftly by Blackfeather.

“There is no what if’s, okay.” Then she turned to face her daughter who looked more than a little uncomfortable. “As for you, we’ll speak about this later young lady.”

Princess Silverfeather just nodded and slowly made her way to Celestia who was currently crying. Silver pressed herself against the weeping Alicorn and began to nuzzle, she hated seeing Celestia hurt but this was worse. Never had she seen the Alicorn that was practically an aunt to her, cry and It was horrible. “Celestia, I’m sorry I didn’t stop him, I didn’t know he was going to do that.” The guilt was oozing from her voice, why didn’t she stop him? why didn’t she open the door? why? She asked herself that question over and over again but she couldn’t find the answer.

Celestia rapped a wing around her and brought the guilty griffon into a hug. “It’s not your fault Silver, don’t ever blame yourself for this no matter what. You couldn’t have known he’d inject himself with (sniffle) a concoction of chemicals. He’s going to be fine.” That last part wasn’t directed to silver, no Celestia had said it to herself.

———————————————————————

It’s been 3 hours since Anubis came out of the emergency room and was placed in a hospital bed to rest. Celestia had been convinced to wait until the griffon had awakened. The only thing that confused the doctors was how easily it had been to stabilise the griffon’s condition, compared to the near dead state Anubis was in before. They still couldn’t identify what he had injected into his body but they knew it contained more than a few deadly chemicals and compounds. It was a miracle that he had survived or was it? Dr Tender knew that Anubis was smart, but how smart was unknown, so why did he inject himself with something he didn’t understand. He must have known what he was doing. The concoction must of had a purpose but what? He would have to speak with Anubis after the princess. Him and Anubis had been experimenting with the griffon’s blood and Anubis had shown a great understanding of the sciences, it was the only time he’d hear the griffon humming a strange little tune that was unlike anything he had heard before.

Meanwhile Celestia paced in circles around her private study, she was accompanied by Blackfeather and Silverbeak sat on a soft couch. Silverbeak was a silver and dark gray griffon with dark brown eyes. His attention was not on the pacing alicorn, no he was focused on his sleeping daughter who had latched onto him as soon as she saw him. Silverfeather had never really been properly exposed to the concept of death, this had taken a heavy toll on the young hen’s mind.

“Celestia he’s fine, the doctors said his condition is stable. You need to relax, you’ve been pacing around for hours now.”

“Fine!! He nearly died Blackfeather, to think I was going to let him explore the city. He’s going to need to be watched 24 7, yeah that would work. I’ll appoint one of my guards to the job.”

“Celestia!! Calm down, you won’t need to assign a guard to the griff. I’m sure this will be a very valuable lesson for him.”

“What! the lesson of don’t mess with dangerous chemicals. Blackfeather he’s not stupid, he knows what’s dangerous and what’s not.”

“Shh. If you two are going to bicker, then take it somewhere else because I don’t want my little Silveey to wake up. She needs the rest and I have to side with princess Celestia on this one dear.” Blackfeather glared at her husband.

“And whose side are you on, keep talking like that and you’ll be sleeping on the couch.”

Silverbeak gave a nervous chuckle. “Well I’m out of this conversation, sorry princess you’re on your own. Oh and that reminds me, my Dear you need to be taking it easy, this stress can’t be good for th.” His words died in his throat as soon as he saw Blackfeather’s eyes. “Heheheh, I’m gonna take silver to her room, speak with you later dear. Love you.” Silverbeak lifted his daughter up onto his back and quickly left the room.

With the two Silvers gone, Celestia continued. “Why did he have swords, spears and a bunch of medical tools, not to mention the chemicals and substances he had. Where did he get his claws on all of that, what was he planning on doing with them. What if it’s a habit he picked up from his time in that dreaded bunker, a survival tactic maybe? It’s not like I can just ask him, it might bring up bad memories. Oh what am I to do….”

“Celestia stop! Your rambling. We’ll ask him when he wakes but you can’t just have a guard stork him every hour of every day and night. I’m sure he’ll give you an explanation, he has to.”

———————————————————————

Anubis awoke and he noticed that he was in the medical wing of the castle, again. He felt stupid, when he fell unconscious he had spoken with Zodiacrdanals and found out that he had nothing to worry about. He had discovered that he couldn’t be affected by diseases or viruses, thanks to the red artefact. Not to mention that it didn’t make sense, his body was blown into pieces. Had he taken a second to think, he would have realised that this body couldn’t have been infected. He needed to come up with a bloody good explanation as for why he done what he did and who was that griffon that had made him jump. Was she nothing but a hallucination? No she couldn’t have been, he had pushed her to the floor when she startled him in the storeroom.

“I’m going to be interrogated by Celestia and dr Tender. Aargh can I just choose death please.” He then saw the doorknob twist and immediately pretended to be asleep. Anubis was going to buy himself more time to forge an explanation. How does one explain a bunch of stolen weapons and chemicals.

Maybe I could…. No that wouldn’t work, fuck. Yes! that would work perfectly, I’ll say I was bored because there’s nothing for me to do here. I can use this to get myself a bit more freedom if I play my cards correctly. But knowing my luck, I’ll end up being subjected to a cruel and unusual punishment, Yay me.
