I had awoken before the other two and decided to take myself on a walk in the city, I wasn’t going to be going too far anyway. As to make sure Celestia didn’t flip out, I left a note for her.

Right now I was just sitting on a bench in front of what I believe to be a giant statue of the pure white Alicorn but with shorter hair. I began to wonder what she’d look like without the long flowing mane and tail.

This image I came up with was a rebellious teenage version of the beautiful mare. After shaking my head of the unrealistic image, my gaze fell on all the store keepers and stand owners setting up shop before the first rays of light arrived. As if the sun itself was to be their first customer, I sniggered at the notion and jumped up.

Allowing my beak to guide me to my breakfast, ponies all stared at me, probably because of me being a giant griffon or the fine attire that I wore. Either way I paid them no mind for I was a hungry griff…. My brain screeched to a halt as I looked into a shop front, there sat a strange ritualistic dagger that was being sold as an unholy item for display in ones home.

But what caught my eye about the blade is that it had two blades, that twisted around each other in discomforting ways forming a double helix. The only way it could be used is, was stabbing. A truly unique item indeed, so i popped in and brought the bloody thing.

Once that ordeal was completed I continued my hunt for breakfast, my beak picked up the scent of freshly baked goods and I quickened my pace. But I started to notice as the sun rose, there were ponies leaving their homes with what I thought were school or college saddle bags.

I was a little concerned with all the newly acquired stares I was getting, but most of them were out of curiosity. Although what I believe to be there dads watching me with disgust in their eyes, I spun around and found that there was a disproportionate number of mares to stallions.

Then one of the ponies came up to me. “H-hello stranger, what’s your name? I’m Spring Torch.”

“Oh hello there Miss Torch, my name is Anubis Grimgost. How may I be of assistance?”

“Um well I couldn’t help but notice that you seem a little lost…. So I was wondering if you’d like some help, if that’s alright?”

“Hahahahah…. Yes I am, I’d appreciate that. You see I’m looking for somewhere to grab breakfast, so if you know of a good place. Do tell.”

The smaller mare turned her head back and shot a shit eating grin towards her parents, her mother proudly smiling whilst her father looked annoyed at me as if it was my fault. That’s when it dawned upon me, the mares typically approach the stallions here and for all purposes I was being hit on.

“So um please follow me, I know a really good place that’s not too far from the college.”

“Why thank you, I was just following my beak before, so I take it you attend Canterlot College.”

“Yep! Heheh i mean yes…. I’m studying music, the violin is my specialty…. Um what about you? I mean do you attend college? I would have noticed a griffon of your hight.”

“Heheheheh well that’s because I don’t but if I did I’d probably excel in the sciences or medical field.”

“Really! Wow…. But how’d you know that?”

“Because I have an excellent understanding of biology and chemistry, physics is the only one I need to touch upon…. Mind if I ask why we’re being followed?”

Looking back, Spring Torch saw a group of mares trying to hide from her. I found this adorable but my stomach decided to make itself known. The mare jumped in surprise and I had to stifle a giggle.

“Yelp* oh it was just your tummy…. I mean stomach! Sorry let’s just get going, they’re just my friends following us. Nothing to worry about.”

“If you say so.”

We continue on our way and i could smell really good food up ahead. “Hehehehe easy there, I know the food smells good but relax, it’s not going anywhere.”

I was caught off guard by her and I slowed my pace, it was a little humiliating but it wasn’t too bad. “Sorry, long legs and all. Can’t help it sometimes.”

“Yeah~ long, powerful legs and I’ve never seen wings a lovely as yours, you’re really different from most griffons we get around here. Why is that?”

“Different breed.”

“Oh really! So are you like exotic or something?”

“I guess you could say that.” We arrived at small cafe and I noticed that there was a poster that said Celestia was giving a speech here today. “So is this where we part ways or would you like to join me for breakfast?”

“Oh um well I’d love to but…. I didn’t bring enough bits, so I’ll just.” I cut her off.

“No matter, it’ll be my treat.”

“Wha? Um oh no I couldn’t, you shouldn’t have to spend money on me.”

“Oh relax, it’s fine. I’ve got more than enough.”

“Um okay….” As I went to sit down and get comfortable, the group of mares came in and began speaking with my guide. Spring Torch began to smirk and they bought her into a circle, I couldn’t make out what they were saying but a few seconds later she was pushed out and towards me.

Her friends had a collective grin as she walked over to me. “So…. Anubis…. Um why do you hold your wings up like that?”

“Oh because it’s comfortable and I can take flight quicker if needed but if you don’t mind me asking, why C…. The princess holding a speech here later?”

“Because her highness does this at least once a year, we’re never really sure what she’s going to be speaking about until she begins but she always gives us great words of wisdom…. If you want I could get you in, I mean if you want!”

“Wouldn’t you get in trouble for that?”

“Um no, there’s no rule that states a student can’t allow a none student entry onto campus grounds.”

“Oh well if it’s allowed, then I’m not going to say no.” That seemed like a pretty stupid rule, especially if it gives you access to the whole place.

Then a new voice rang out. “Good morning, what can I get for you two today?”

About an hour later we left and Spring Torch led me to the college campus, we were still being followed by her friends and I found it amusing. When we got on the grounds, I noticed that I was receiving questionable looks from the professors and security ponies.

One of the ponies In silver armour trotted up to me and inspected me. “Excuse me sir but may I ask your age because you look a little too old to be a student.”

Wow what a prick, this mare just said I looked old. “Well if you must know, I’m 17….” A awkward silence filled the atmosphere and I now had Spring Torch and the security pony staring at me.

“Wait Anubis? You’re seventeen…. You look so mature for seventeen.”

“Why thank you but how old are you Spring?”

“Silly. Just read my college identity card, see.”

“Oh you’re seventeen as well, cool…. Wait how old did you think I was?” I shot a glare her way.

“Oh um well I thought you were…. Um you know because you’re so well dressed and tall and and….”

“I asked how old.”

“At least 29….”

“Oh…. Wait? If you thought I was that old then why did you think to approach me, let alone let me in here?” Acting dumb was fun at times.

The mare’s cheeks turned red, her ears pinning to her head. She looked as if she had been caught doing something bad. “I’m sorry…. I thought you looked nice and well I didn’t know griffons could get as big as you…. So I thought if I was nice to you, then you’d grow attached to me…. And maybe we could go out to dinner sometime….”

Well that was a lot to unpack but I got it. “So you wanted to pursue me romantically…. But why if I look so much older than you?”

“I thought you’d have a little bit more experience in life….”

“Ooooooh, oh yeah that makes sense but unfortunately I’m spoken for and this is going to be a bit of a culture shock…. But we’re I’m from, the griffs normally pursue the hens.”

She blinked for a moment before face hoofing and groaning at herself. “I’m so sorry Anubis…. But we’re still cool right?”

“Yes we’re fine.”

“Okay that’s lovely and all. But I don’t believe you griffon, not to mention that I’ve never seen a griffon like you before. So I’m going to have to ask you to hoof over your documents please.”

Shiiiiiiiiit…. I don’t have those. “Oh um well sorry but I currently don’t have them on me….” The security pony didn’t like that response and I didn’t think this was going to be fun.

“I’m sorry you’re going to have to come with me sir.”

“What if I just leave the campus?”

“Sorry but I can’t allow that, so please comply and make this easy on both of us.”

Fuck…. I could easily run but it’ll only make things worse and I haven’t done anything wrong, this pony is just suspicious of me that’s all. “Sigh* I’ve got nothing better to do, will there at least be tea?”

I was taken to a cube room were I was completely stripped down, it would have been fine if the guard wasn’t so…. Thorough.

“Mhmmmm so why do you have this weird and impractical knife of sorts? I knew you were trouble as soon as I saw you.”

“Okay I can explain.”

“Save your breath.”

This fucking bitch was pissing me off but I couldn’t just kill her and be done with it, especially in broad daylight. So I fell silent.

I’ve been sitting here waiting for the past two hours, in that time I had a visitor. Spring Torch was speaking to me from the other side of some iron bars. It was surprising to find out that this place had a dungeon inside of it.

“So Anubis what are you going to do, is there anypony I can um maybe get to come and bring your documents?”

But before I could respond, my stomach growled. “Well I wouldn’t mind something to eat please?”

“Oh um well I’ve got this peanut butter and jelly sandwich, if that’s alright?”

“If it’s all you got then keep it for yourself.”

“Oh no I’ve got like two of these and you did pay for me at that cafe, so here take it.”

“Thank you Spring, I appreciated that.” I saw her eyes widen when I opened my beak and chomped into the sandwich. “Mhmmmm oh yeah that’s good….”

“Heheheheh it’s only PB and J, it’s not that good.”

“That doesn’t matter, it tastes good to me.”

Then the security pony came in and told Spring not to give me anything, so I stuffed the rest of the sandwich into my beak. “Anyway griffon, you got a visitor, it’s her highness. So show some respect and maybe she’ll overlook the blatant lie about your age.”

Spring’s eyes went even wider and her pupils turned to pinpricks, I shrugged my shoulders and sat up. Spring Torch immediately went into a bow and I felt a grin appearing on my beak.

“Please rise my little pony.” The regal Alicorn then walked in front of the iron bars and her expression turned to one of shock. “A-Anubis?” The security pony and Spring Torch looked at me in surprise. “What are you doing in here?”

“Well your highness, I was just going about my day when this lovely mare offered me a tour of the campus but this security guard didn’t like my lack of papers. So that’s how I ended up in here…. As for the lack of clothes, well they needed to insure that I had nothing I shouldn’t have…. Or so I was told.”

“I see…. well there’s no point keeping you in there, so get dressed and meet me in the reception place Mr Grimgost….” She took her leave and I began to giggle at the crude impression of fishs the two mare’s were making.

“Well. You heard her, let me out and give me my stuff back please.”

Once I was fully dressed and free, I made my way to Celestia and greeted her appropriately. I introduced her to my new friend but Spring was extremely nervous, Celestia gave me a look and pulled me over to the side.

“Pssss Anubis, I don’t know if you’ve noticed but that mare is attracted to you.”

“I know but I’ve already told her that I’m spoken for…. And don’t worry I didn’t say by who.”

“Okay good…. But but.” I cut her off.

“Awww you’re so cute when you’re flustered. listen to me, you and Silver are the only two I need so relax. I’m not gonna go running off for a violinist.”

“Heheheheh I wasn’t saying that…. Just don’t lower your guard, she’s a mare.”

“And so are you.”

“Exactly and look how we ended up.”

“Okay okay I’ll tell her.”

We walked back over to Spring Torch and the royal guards, Celestia giving Spring a glare. The small earth pony mare flattened her ears and looked as if she was about to bolt. I was going to have to tell her off for that, she can’t be doing that especially in public. Somecreature might figure out that we’re an item.

“Well your highness, it was a pleasure speaking with you but if you don’t mind. I believe that you have a speech to prepare for.”

“Yes I do…. Oh and I believe that this is yours.” She gave me the odd dagger I had brought, I had completely forgotten about it.

Spring and the guards looked at me in disbelief as the princess of Equestria gave me my ritualistic dagger.

“Thank you princess, I’m glad that it was returned to me on such short notice.”

“That is alright Mr Grimgost, anyway I must be off now.”

“Of course, please don’t let me keep you.”

She trotted away with her escort of royal guards and I noticed a slight limp in her step, a proud smile adorning my face.

“Wow, you know the princess! How?”

“Oh um well….” Thinking quickly I came up with. “You see I’m in a relationship with princess Silverfeather, the griffon princess who’s staying at the castle whilst she studies….”

She lowered her voice to a whisper. “What so you’re a prince, oh my I didn’t know…. Wait, why don’t you have any guards?”

“Because I chose not to have an escort.”

“Oh, I didn’t know you could do that…. So um do griffons have herds or something similar?”

“Well no they don’t….” In all honesty I didn’t know. “And look Spring Torch, we can still be friends just so you know.”

“Yeah i gathered that…. But it was worth that one last try, so do you want to see where i practice my strings?”

“Sure, lead the way.”

She led me through the college and I found myself looking at the architecture, the design, the beauty and complexity of the arches. Celestia and Silver better find away to compete or I might have to marry this building. First chance I get, I’m gonna redesign my mansion in the woods. Because fuck modesty when I can have a bold and ominous Gothic manor.

“Anubis! Over here!” I came back to reality and rushed over to Spring Torch.

“Yes, what is it.”

“This is the auditorium where me and a bunch of other students practice and learn the musical arts.”

“Woah…. This is your classroom?”

“Yep, over there is the audio booths for a more private space to practice.” I just nodded silently. “Wait in there, I’m going to grab my violin from my locker.”

“Um sure okay….” Even in this room the walls were spectacular, the soft carpet under my claws and the ceiling. The ceiling was used as a canvas by an artist of extraordinary skill and talent.

When Spring Torch came back, I must have looked like a fool for I was lying on my back just staring at the ceiling above.

“Heheheheheh what are you doing?”

My cheeks heated up. “Uh hey…. I was just admiring the art.”

“Yes I gathered but you don’t need to lay on the floor. There’s a sofa there if you would prefer that…. Um Anubis do you know how to play any instruments?”

I got up and sat down on the sofa. “Can’t say that I can, I don’t even know how to read or write sheet music.”

“Oh um well if you would like, I can teach you?”

“Really! Yeah I’d love that, I’ve always wanted to learn an instrument…. Mhmmm oh you can teach me the violin! I mean it was obvious you’d teach me that.”

“Well yeah…. So um here.” She gave me a violin and bow and began to show me how to properly hold it. Once I got that down she then explained the different notes of said instrument, this took me a bit longer to understand but I got there in the end.

“Wow you’re learning really fast Anubis, this stuff took me like two weeks to learn,”

“Well what can I say, I’ve got a great teacher.” I continue to practice the notes and positioning of my bow for the rest of the session.

“Oh my Celestia, look at the time. Sorry Anubis but the princess’s speech is about to start, we need to go.”

We packed away everything and left but Spring gave me a textbook about the violin and other string instruments. I took it and held it under my folded wing, my dagger under the other one.

I planed on buying myself a violin on the way back to the castle, I had already begun to remember the more modern symphonies I would listen to back on earth. If I could ever recreate a fraction of them, then I’d probably go down in the history books as a pioneer of sorts.

But that wasn’t my style, no I had a better idea. I’d teach Spring Torch the songs. After all I had my goals and they had been expanded already by the discovery of the Dreamscape. This world was basically my sand box and I was going to do what ever I wanted.

After Celestia gave her speech, all the ponies left with a new sense of motivation and pride. I reminded myself to ask her if she could teach me such public speaking skills. But a guard came up to me and asked if I could follow him, I said goodbye to Spring and followed the unicorn stallion.

I was led into a spectacle room that had a contrasting palette of black, gold and blue. The trim that bordered the walls was a marble gray, giant windows illuminated the room with Celestia’s very own sun and there at a table sat the Alicorn in question. Across from her was an elderly unicorn stallion, who had a gray mane and dull rusty red coat.

Celestia gestured for me to take a seat next to her so I swiftly walked over and got comfortable. Looking at the table, I noticed that there was stacks of paper. Upon reading them I realised that they were enrolment papers with my name on them.

College. But why? I didn’t need to go through this and get a degree, I just wanted a small cafe that I could create a large network of underground reinforced tunnels and labs in. I wasn’t asking for much, but then again I could use this to find like minded individuals and employ them. Sort of like a secret society but unlike a secret society, we would actually help…. For the most part.

I’d have to think this through before deciding, I don’t believe I need the education but this is a new world…. So I’ll see what I can enrol in.

“So you must be the griffon I was told so much about by princess Celestia, it’s a pleasure Mr Grimgost.”

“Ummhmm yes a pleasure, so do you plan on enrolling me in here princess?” She sipped from her cup and smiled, giving me my answer. “So do I get to decide what curriculums I’ll be studying?”

“Yes indeed but please allow me to introduce myself, I’m the head principal of this here house of learning, principal Red Quill.”

“Yes well I’m sorry for my rudeness a moment ago, it’s a honour to meet you principal Red Quill, as you probably already know. I’m Anubis Grimgost.”

“Well Mr Grimgost, her highness has already filled out a bunch of forms of courses that she believed you would be interested in. So please look through them and pick those you would like to study.”

“Okay well I trust her judgement.” I started reading through them and looking at them I found that the only ones that stood out were the banks and economics, magical engineering, physics and music. Separating them from the others, I gave them to the principal and looked to Celestia.

She looked surprised and smiled at me, whilst the principal was looking over the papers she nipped my ear.

“Hey~ stop, not here.”

“Heheheheh.”

Both of our attentions were caught by the elderly unicorn. “Sigh* Could you two love birds please keep this professional.”

My ears perked up and Celestia went stiff. “Well you’re more insightful then I took you for gramps.”

“Well her highness makes it obvious…. No offence princess.”

“Sigh* none taken.”

“Yeah he’s got a point,” she turned towards me. “I mean you were trying to incinerate Spring Torch with your eyes, all because she found me attractive.”

“Hahahahah! Yes my boy, that’s mares for you. They can get very territorial and defensive over there mates.” The once regal Alicorn now looked like a puppy that got caught in the bins, for the fifth time.

“So can I do all of them?”

“Yes Mr Grimgost, what sort of schedule would you like, normally we don’t let students pick but I can make an exception for you. So your choices are the minimum is 3 days a week to 6 days a week.”

“Oh well I’d like to take the 3 day schedule then.”

“Splendid, I’ll send you a list of items you’d need and you can start after this season for the mares pass.”

“Yay education, so are you ready to go home Celestia? I bet Silver’s still in bed.”

“Yes I’m done with my business here, thank you principal Red Quill and have a nice day.”

“Don’t mention it princess, it was my pleasure and good day to you too.” I just waved and followed behind Celestia.
