Celestia’s POV

When I awoke it was an hour before the sun was due to be risen but I felt cold and sore but something was missing.

Anubis!!

Where was my griff-friend!?

I got up and began to nervously prance around the airship, I felt panic setting in but then I noticed that my wounds had been cleaned up and healed. All that remained of them was damp spots on my fur and I let out an audible sigh.

Looking outside the ship I saw darkness and I had second thoughts about going out, something was telling me not to so I didn’t and instead decided to get comfy whilst I waited for him to return.

I had no doubt that he went back down into that accursed city, hunting for some worthless artefact of some kind. Then I remember that I had the odd idle of that long-eared griffon mother, I took the torn shirt off and levitated it towards me.

Upon further inspection I still had no clue as to what it was but I pressed the head of the statue in and it began to glow with a beautiful red light.

Then it began to change, it took the form of a magnificent white and red book with an ornate gold lock on it. At first I thought it was just a book but then a long golden chain appeared and attached itself to my right hoof, that’s when I realised that I had just been linked with a grimoire.

My heart dropped at the revelation and I swiftly opened the evil book, after all there was a very good reason why I had banned and locked them away. The price of using one was beyond horrible and now I was attached to it, not to mention I don’t even know what type of grimoire it is!

“Fuck fuck fuck! Shit noooo. Why?” Frustration evident in my voice.

Flying through the pages of the book I noticed that I couldn’t even read the language and slammed my hoof into the floor and the letters on the page began to shift.

As I realised that I could now read this blasted book it was a summoning and quality of life grimoire, now I’m lost? It didn’t have a price or demand sacrifices, no it just demanded to be used.

And to top it off it looked really useful but I had to be careful, it seems way too good to be true and I wasn’t going to trust this bloody book one bit.

“Heheheheh, I’m starting to sound like Anubis. Bloody hell! Oh god! Fuck me…. Heheheheheh~ why does he say that?” I was trying to imitate his accent but I was doing a terrible job, now that I thought of it. His accent sounded similar to a Trottingham one but it had a slight difference and was deeper than a traditional one.

“Because that’s how I talk.”

“Eep!” I shot up and hid the grimoire under my wing, I felt it disappear but I didn’t check and give Anubis any reason for suspicion.

“So you like to mock my accent? Oh ouch my feelings are wounded by your jokes.” He placed a claw on his forehead In a dramatic fashion.

“Sigh* shut up and don’t scare me like that.”

“And this is the thanks I get for giving you a child?”

“Ep! Um well uh t-thank you….” He brushed against me and his wing rubbed against my stomach.

Nipping my ear and whispering to me in his accent making me shudder. “Oh~ you’re welcome honey~.”

“Ssso where did you go?”

“Some of the wildlife was getting close, too close for comfort…. And I mean natural wildlife, so I just chased them away and got myself some food.” He pulled up a dead animal and I surprisingly didn’t feel revolted by the sight of blood. “Anyway I’m going to make breakfast, you want hash browns, beans and some pancakes?”

I nodded eagerly at him and followed him outside, he used his magic to start a fire and place a large pan over the flame.

“Why don’t you use creation? I mean you could just cook the food on your creation if you had it over the fire.”

I can’t, heat doesn’t transfer through it. I’m not entirely certain why but it’s a good thing, if it did. Then I’d most likely be a pile of ash right now. Having to rise for it like your evil pet pigeon.”

“Huff* you on thin ice mister, she not evil and you intruded in her home.”

“I’m on thin ice? My dear i guess it’s a good thing I can walk on air then.”

I was speechless, he wasn’t wrong and the comeback was clever but it didn’t mean I had to agree with him.

“Shut up and feed me….”

“Sigh* and you’re already demanding things, I really did fall from grace….”

“Hey what’s that supposed to mean?” I poked him with a wing and gave a playful smile.

“Nothing Swan neck….”

Fine then! I’ll make breakfast, move. Now.” He got up and went to the side whilst I pored the oil into the pan and dropped some hash browns in there, then I levitated the knife and opened the can of beans and dumped them into a pot that Anubis passed over. “Thank you.”

I then got to work on preparing the small rabbit like animal for him, I looked over my shoulder to find him grinning at me and then it hit me.

He had played me….

He had somehow made me cook breakfast for us and it annoyed me, that scheming griff had got me! to make him! food!

How!!!!!

Oh Celestia, what have you gotten yourself into?

“I think you mean, what have you let in you.”

My ears twitch and I spun around with a shocked look plastered on my muzzle, he just giggled. “H-how?”

“That look on your face, when you’re not wearing that mask you’re actually really easy to read. Makes my life easier so don’t stop plus I find it cute.”

“Huff* whatever.” I removed the hash browns and placed the chunks of meat into the pan, they immediately began to sizzle.

I wiped my muzzle with my hoof and instantly pulled it away from me, it was bloody and I let out a tired sigh.

“Oh come here Celestia.” He pulled me to him and began licking my muzzle, it wasn’t kissing but it definitely felt affectionate.

I even began to melt into his embrace, his warmth, his security…. Even out in the open I felt safe with him, then I heard chewing….

“Anubis? What are you eating?”

“Mhmm gulp* oh um you’re cooking of course…. Why?”

“Sigh* of course….” He is still a griff after all, what did I honestly expect.

A hour later i rose the sun and lowered the moon, Anubis watched and I felt nervous. I couldn’t put my hoof on why but I did, I mean he had watched me do this plenty of times but this one felt different.

———————————————————————

Anubis was now getting ready to head back down into the underground ruins but Celestia was completely against the idea.

“Please listen! I can’t lose you! Not now Anubis.”

“Swan neck, I’m going to be fine. Relax okay, I just need to find it and leave Old Leakon.”

“Then I’m coming with you.”

“No!” He backed the regal Alicorn against the airship and let out a sigh. “Look I just can’t have you get hurt down there my dear….”

“B-but you didn’t have any problems before?”

“Sigh* because of last night you silly mare, speaking of which. Let me make sure you’ve conceived.”

“No!” He took a step back and she continued. “No…. Because I want to go through it naturally, none of your biomancy stuff.”

“Why Celestia but I can guarantee the healthy development of our cub, why stop me?”

“Like I said, I want it to be natural. You shouldn’t tamper with new life, it’s just wrong…. No offence.”

“Sigh* none taken but I would like to speak with you more about this later, I need to go and get that artefact now.” And without another word Anubis took off.

Celestia went to follow but then she realised the potential danger and stopped herself.

The large griff noticed that her magical signature had stayed put, this made him smile as he landed upon the remains of the once grand castle of Old Leakon.

“Okay now where from here Zodiac?”

‘Underneath the city is the third unholy god and it needs to be killed in a controlled manner, so try not to destroy your surroundings mortal.’

“I’ll do my best….”

We made idle chitchat whilst I walked and cleaved my way through the ruins, I was pretty much covered in grim dark blood as I wondered into a small house.

It was decorated well and the condition was surprisingly good, well good for a few thousand year old home. All the decor was mostly destroyed but I couldn’t make out the patterns of the wall paper and pictures, hell the only reason I thought this place was in good condition was because of its age.

But now that I look at it closely, i come to the conclusion that it’s just the lack of fresh air that has preserved this city. The only liquid down here is the bodily fluids from the undead.

Fuck it’s a miracle that the blood is still a fluid after all that time.

‘Mortal, were you a human?’

WHAT!!!!!!

“I was, in a past life…. But i died and was reborn as Anubis Grimgost. And that is who I truly was meant to be Zodiacrdanals.”

‘What was your human name…. Never mind, it doesn’t matter. I know your soul isn’t human, otherwise your mind and soul would have broke along time ago.’

“Thanks…. But what gave it away?”

‘Your memories Anubis, I got a glimpse of them as did you of mine. I gathered that from you’re gamma ray burst.’

“Sigh* where are you going with this?”

‘I don’t understand how you think, you’re capable of doing acts of violence and pure evil but you can just switch and hide your actually nature. Why? How and for what reason?’

“Sigh* why do you care?”

‘Just curiosity.’

“Fine, I do it because I’m not held back by morals. I don’t believe in right or wrong, there is only is and isn’t. I can commit those things because I need to advance my knowledge, if killing gets me closer to my goals then I’ll do it.”

‘Mmmmmmm fascinating, I don’t think I have ever encountered an entity that thinks like you and you’re not lying to me either. I’m impressed.’

“What good would lying do.”

‘Good point but you’re an excellent liar.’

“Only because I don’t fully lie, I only twist the truth. Even if I twist a story into a completely different one, I’m still only twisting it in the end.”

‘Wow~ you are truly a psychopath. No regard for those around you and only looking to further your goals. Do you even care for your mates?’

“Of course I do, I believe they will give me something I can’t get without them. I love them dearly, you should know that considering I’m against upsetting them.”

‘I won’t deny that Anubis but you have a backwards way at doing it, I mean faking emotion isn’t exactly being honest.’

“But it isn’t lying either, so I don’t see the harm.”

‘I guess not but your lack of empathy has been showing more often, try harder to hide it mortal. She might catch on soon, I’m impressed that the hen excepted your reasoning for the experiments and murders.’

“She’s easily convinced by my words.”

‘Tisk Tisk its not good to manipulate your lovers.’

“You say manipulate I call it guide and direct her, I allow her to make up her own mind and I give her the information that she needs to make said decisions. Nothing wrong with that, she loves me and has decided to help me expand my knowledge. Even Celestia is warming up to my less than ideal behaviours.”

‘Nothing I say affects you, I’m glad you were the one to merge with the Necrovine artefacts.’

“Good, now which way am i going?”

‘Do you see that crack in the wall straight ahead of you?’

“Let me guess, I’m crawling through?”

‘Good, so off you go. Have fun, this unholy god is far stronger than the one I fought and don’t die. Remember that you can be killed by the beings of the Dreamscape Anubis.’

“Sigh* not that I plan on dying but thanks.”

I reduced my size and slipped in, crawling my way in and coming out in what appeared to be a catacomb. Rows of skeletons and skulls lined the walls and even the floors, it reminded me of one of the labs I was stationed at in Paris back when I was a human.

I never understood why the entrance was placed there, I didn’t make any sense but I guess it was out of the way from prying eyes.

I travel down the skeleton halls, which lead me to a spiral staircase that was made from a giant spine. It descended into darkness and I was heading down it, I chose not to waste time walking so I jumped into the darkness.

I had been falling for 3 minutes now and I had a feeling that something was wrong, spreading my wings and flying up. It only took a few flaps to get to the entrance I came from.

“Fucking magic…. It’s just a minor setback.”

Travelling down the spine didn’t work either. So I sat atop the spinal staircase thinking, how to get down there. Then it hit me, what if I flew up to go down?

Heading up into the darkness I felt scarily similar to how it was to be dead, I didn’t like it but when I opened my eyes. I found myself staring at a female long-eared griffon of immense beauty, I felt my cheeks heat up and I pondered why?

“Hello…. my pretty bird…. What is it you seek?”

“I-I-I look for the blue Necrovine artefact.”

“I cannot help you without my tome, if I had it I could assist you…. But…. If you had it, you could summon me for anything young griff.”

“I see, well I don’t have it…. Anyway, who are you?”

“I am Fenrick the maternal mistress but I must bid you farewell young lord of Grim. I’ll give you a parting gift, so close your eyes.”

“Lord of Grim?” I complied and she took my head in her claws, I felt her pulling me towards her and I wanted to pull away but resisted the urge.

Smooch*

“Mmmmm! Gasp!* hey!?” She had kissed me and it felt weird to say the least, I felt something different but didn’t know what?

She just gave a caring smile and I felt myself falling.

Thud*

“Ouch….” Looking around I found that I was at the bottom of that bloody spinal staircase and I let out a confused sigh. “I’m in no rush to find her book.”

But other than that she was useful and I was now walking along a narrow path of claws and feathers. It had an aura of mystery to the place, darkness never leaving. Not even for a second.

The only thing not consumed by it was the path and myself, I had a suspicion that I was being observed from within the dead dark but whatever it was refused to touch the light.

“Sooooo~ what now?”

‘No clue mortal, it looks like we’re in the dark here.’

“Why did I fucking ask?”

‘Hahahahahahah…. Now kill that unholy god.’

Anubis extended his bone blades and used creation to create the plasma blades that illuminated his surroundings.

He immediately regretted that when he got a glimpse of the unholy one itself, the thing’s appearance made the griff physically gag and grimace at the mere sight of it.

———————————————————————

Meanwhile princess Celestia was enjoying her very own exploration on the surface.

She had found an ancient temple rich with artefacts of the long-eared griffons golden age, that was what she told herself anyway.

This conclusion was mostly because of the sheer abundance of valuable resources used as decorations and jewellery. She was gathering all sorts of trinkets and treasures in a large satchel she had made many years back.

The thought running through her head was how she could open a new exhibit, dedicated to a long lost species and civilisation.

And to top it off, it would be her name on the.

The alabaster Alicorn was prancing around a dig site that she had erected, it was located at the base of the monument temple that despite its shape had a gothic style to it. Celestia pulled out a note book and made a rough sketch of it

There was three points to the base of the structure and on the south face it had an half buried entrance. On what Celestia could only describe as the first layer was made from an unknown stone like blocks, on the blocks was incredibly detailed carving of long-eared griffons praising a singular, larger one with scythe like blades coming from its forelegs.

“Just like my Anubis…. Could he be of royal heritage?”

The temple had fore spires, the largest one in the centre and three smaller ones on each corner of the temple. They were made from a dark slate and reached for the skys, Celestia noticed that the temple was made from three different kinds of material, dark slate made the spires, the layer underneath was a beautiful red sandstone blocks and lastly the unknown stone blocks made the final layer.

But now her focus was on getting inside the ancient temple.

“Fuck!”

Splatter*

“Cough* cough* cough* ssssssssssssah~ o-okay, this isn’t great.”

‘No it isn’t, 4 o’clock!’

Slam*

“Thanks!”

‘Just don’t get hit by that sword.’

“Why?! You still haven’t told me!”

‘Because it’s the sword of accursed souls and it will kill you if a fatal blow is landed.’

“Wonderful!”

KABOOOM!!!!!*

Rooooooooooour!!!!!!!*

Crack*

“Gasp* argh~ this is bloody frustrating.”

Anubis had made some distance between him and Soulairrum the forgotten god, who Anubis thought was better off forgotten.

This was because Soulairrum was beyond hideous, his face or what was left of it had two serpent eyes and in between them was his mouth. It stretched from the top of his head down to the chin and if Anubis’s mental fortitude was any weaker it would have changed the way he looked at all female reproductive organs.

The mouth had no teeth, it only had endless rows of gums, this did not help by any means.

The forgotten god’s head was attached to a long spindly neck that looked like a weak point but the griff had quickly learnt otherwise.

The body was just out of sight, shrouded in shadow and it had 12 long skeletal arms that reached out. Each one tried desperately to attack or grab Anubis but only one held a sword that looked like a Spartan short sword but larger.

If the griff was to get his claws on it, he would make it look like a large Scottish claymore, its blade as black as night. The only reason Anubis could see it was because of the Green reflection it gave for some unknown mystical reason.

As for the blade’s owner, he was rotten for the most part. Both metaphorically and physically, the griff could see parts of exposed crystal bone that had what must have been strands of muscle tissue clinging on in a fruitless attempt to continue as somewhat living appearance.

Not that it matters much, anycreature that saw Soulairrum would instantly know that something was sickeningly wrong with him. Anubis believed that he must have been an experiment made by a great one for fun.

CRASH*

Shing*

Anubis had dodged a deformed claw and parried the sword of souls with a plasma blade made from his creation, he immediately began to ignite the thick air in front of him. He had noticed that it was heavy with hydrogen sulphide and ammonia, so a tiny spark outside of the confines of creation would prove devastating.

KAAAAABOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!

He watched as the entire space around him was lit up in a spectacular explosion of fire, the forgotten god screamed out in agony and retribution.

This was the first time Anubis got to have a clear look at the abomination and room, which he will forever regret as the image was forever burned into his mind.

A few words left his beak in a weak hopeless whisper. “What the bloody hell are you….”

Then it reared it head back and a blood began to fill its mouth, as Anubis took this opportunity to attack it through its head forward and a jet of boiling blood shot out and hit Anubis. Completely braking through his creation and him, leaving a gaping hole that was steaming.

“Gaaaaagh! Aaaaaa, rrrrrrrrrr!”

It only took a few seconds for Anubis to regenerate his lungs and heart but it was enough time for Soulairrum to smack the griff wait one of his claws.

The contact had enough force to send Anubis flying and completely snap the boney appendage off.

‘MORTAL!!!’

Thud*

“Fffffffuck me….” The griff weakly managed to get up and had to immediately jump to the right, narrowly avoiding the sword’s blade.

“So!”

Slam*

“How!”

Crash*

“Do I”

Shinnng*

“Kill!”

Smack*

Crash*

Thud*

“Cough* cough* ouch, beat it?”

‘It’s sword it the answer.’

“It’s sword…. Oh I see, okay I got this.”

‘Good to know we’re on the same page, that sword can kill souls but you’ll need to figure out how to use it.’

“What?!? It isn’t just swing?”

‘No it isn’t!’

“Well fuck….”

Swish*

Slash*

Splatter*

Garrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!*

“I hope that hurt bitch!”

‘It’s not a female dog Anubis.’

“Not now Zodiac!!”

Anubis had cut one of the forgotten god’s claws off and it only had 10 remaining but only one mattered, the one holding the sword he wanted.

Veummmmm*

Slash*

Shing*

Slash*

Splatter*

Clash*

Crash*

Smash*

Anubis switch and went on the offensive, he managed to land some deep gashes on the stomach and chest of the forgotten god. But only one made him bleed, this was thanks to the super heated plasma.

This gave the griff a better idea and all he needed to do was touch it and he would either kill or injure it long enough to grab the sword.

The abomination swung it skeletal claw at Anubis and this time he let it hit him, upon contact he forced all the particles in its body to rapidly break and separate.

POP!*

Splatter*

“Sigh* I fucking hate myself sometimes, i can’t believe I forgot i could do that….”

“Fuck you…. But it looks like I’ve got a new toy to reverse engineer.”

Anubis was drenched in blood as it rained down from the ceiling, he approached the sword and noticed that something else was with it.

Upon a closer inspection he noticed that it was the Necrovine artefact he was looking for, that meant he didn’t have to kill the other unholy god or stay down here anymore.

Picking up and securing the sword to his back, then making his way to the blue artefact. He pick it up and began to feel dizzy and fell onto something soft and warm.

The last thing he saw was a motherly smile before he faded into the void with Zodiacrdanals.

“Shit…. I’m unconscious…. and somecreature has my body, we’re dead. We’re just dead, I literally can’t do anything.”

“Relax mortal, I didn’t sense any murderous intent coming from the one you so graciously fell on.”

“Sigh* I am relaxed but are you sure?”

“Of course.”

“Fine I’ll take your word then, so I have all three artefacts. What now?”

“That’s for us to find out but I am feeling a large population of souls leaving this place, so I can confirm that we have successfully merged with the Necrovine artefact.”

“Good…. I’m just going to float around for a bit, clear my head.”

“Very well Anubis.”

Little did the cosmic entity and mortal griffon know, both of their soul had become one although they still had separate consciousnesses.

———————————————————————

Meanwhile In an ancient temple a regal Alicorn made her way down a decrepit staircase of stone.

She was mesmerised by the magnificent carving in the stone walls each one told a tale that Celestia couldn’t enjoy.

What she’d do to understand this carved language but she enjoyed it nonetheless and continued down into the depths of the temple.
