Anubis awoke in a daze and buried his beak deeper into the soft bed he was sleeping on, it was softer than anything he had ever felt and it was heated too.

“Mmmmmmmmmmm~ and this bed smells like roses.”

“Why thank you young griff.”

Anubis’s eyes shot open and he sprung up, landing on his claws and stumbling back. He recognised the voice and calmed himself, he looked to the larger hen with an expression of surprise.

“I’m sorry if I startled you, I just couldn’t help myself you little cutie.”

“So how did I get here? I don’t remember anything after killing the forgotten god.”

“Heheheheh~ you passed out and I came across you little one, so I allowed you to rest on my chest. By the way, you’re adorable when you sleep but I guess all are in the eyes of a mother.”

“Children?”

“Why yes, my title isn’t just for show. I was the first of our kind but I’m glad to see that you have recovered my Necrovine artefact, it suits you better.”

“Your artefact?”

“Yes.”

“So you were the last one to possess the blue artefact?”

“That is correct…. my body is gone but my soul is bound to my book, I can only take physical manifestation in my domain or if summoned from my grimoire….” Her saddened expression spoke a hundred words of the pain she was in. “Sigh* but I must thank you, for you have freed the souls of my beloved subjects. Lord of grim, i am eternally grateful to you.”

Anubis tried to keep his balance but it was a fruitless struggle.

Thud*

“Oh my! Are you well, young lord? Awwww come here and rest, you need to rest the soul.”

He did not protest or struggle as the larger griffon levitated him toward her and laid the tire griff upon herself.

A moment later, Celestia trotted into the clean room and saw Anubis being cradled by a larger more feminine long-eared griffon.

Immediately teleporting her sword to her side and drawing it, she flew towards the female griffon and swung.

Clang*

The sword was blocked by a blacker than night blade that had a green shine to it.

“Who are you!?”

“Shhhhhhhhhhh~ you might wake him…. Now why are you angry?”

“Because he’s my mate, I’d imagine the scent would have given that away.”

“Please relax, I’m not trying to steal him from you…. He just needs rest and I’d rather not have him sleeping on the cold marble floor.”

“I don’t care, he’s my mate!”

The larger hen conceded and laid Anubis on the floor and moved away from him, allowing Celestia to inspect the snoozing griff. The agitated Alicorn was extremely thorough with her look over, after a nod of approval the mare turned to the hen.

“So are you satisfied?”

“Sigh* yes…. So who are you?”

“My name is Fenrick the maternal mistress and it is my responsibility to insure the safety of my cubs, the lord of grim isn’t one from litter but he is my cub nonetheless.”

Celestia gave a sceptical nod and pressed forward.

“So I take it that this is your temple?”

“Temple? No this is my home, my house. It may look like a grand palace but it’s a humble home in comparison to my younger brothers and sisters homes.”

“This…. Humble? And I thought Canterlot castle was too much…. So are you undead?”

“Yes and no, my body does not exist outside of this palace but my soul can leave. The only way I can physically leave this place is with my grimoire.”

“Y-you mean t-this one….” Celestia called upon it and a long golden chain came from her hoof and materialised into a beautiful gold, red and white book.

The hen clapped excitedly and pranced in place. “Oh goody, it’s been far too long since I’ve seen the waking world and all its beauty….”

Fenrick stopped for a moment and stared at Celestia, a knowing grin appearing on her beak. “So little Alicorn, have you and my son done the deed~?”

Celestia’s cheeks lit up a deep crimson and she began to stammer out her words, this answered the hen’s question and she giggled.

“Heheheheheheh~ I see why he chose you, you’re adorable…. Oh I wish you the best with him but a word of advice, our kind really enjoy when the feathers at the base of their tail are preened and you can use that book to call upon me if you need anything.”

“I-I might….”

“Anyway I bid you farewell, the exit is just the way you came.” And with that the large griffon hen disappeared, leaving Celestia looking confused and concerned at the book in her hoof.

“Sigh* how am I going to carry you Anubis, can’t you just wake up?”

“Zzzzzzzzzzzzz~.”

“Of course not…. Fine teleporting it is.” She ignited her horn and….

POP*

They were gone and quickly popped back into existence in front of the advanced airship.

“Well here is good enough…. Why did that come with us?”

The regal mare used her magic to pick up the dark sword and her eyes widened at the sheer weight of the blade, it was beyond heavy and the balance was outrageously off centred.

STOMP!!!*

Celestia jumped a few hoofs off the ground and when she landed another stomp made her jump back into the air.

STOMP!!!*

STOMP!!!*

She took Anubis and hid in the nearby bushes making sure she was down wind from whatever it was.

STOMP!!!*

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr*

She peaked out from the bushes whilst holding her griff-friend close, she watched in horror as a beast sniffed at the airship and nosed at it.

Grrrrrrroar!!!!!!*

Chomp*

KABOOOOOM!!!!!*

Ducking for cover as bits of shrapnel flew past from the explosion, the beast whaled in pain as blood poured out from its mouth. The scent of blood filled the air but Celestia couldn’t help but pity the animal although she was hesitant to call it that since she hadn’t gotten a good enough look at it.

As for the beast, it had fell to the ground unmoving. She thought it probably died from the explosion but didn’t want to risk checking, the airship’s cockpit was scattered all around the clearing and their stuff littered the ground.

The beast had bit what Anubis called the engine bay which he himself stated, would explode if critically damaged thanks to the immense magical power it had in it at any given time.

The exhausted and confused mare let out a long tired sigh as she only now began to unpack the wildly bazar events that had just unfolded.

first was finding Anubis sleeping on a hen’s chest, only to find out the hen was a ghost? Or something similar…. Then to have the ghost to go on like it was his mother and ask very private questions and now the mode of transportation Anubis had made himself was destroyed right before her eyes, not to mention the creature responsible was dead.

She quietly whispered out in an exasperated tone. “Why couldn’t this jungle just be a normal jungle with jaguars and tigers, not ancient cities of undead in the ground and homewrecker ghosts…. Well I guess it’s an adventure.”

“Yawn* you’re welcome.” Her eyes shot open as she snapped her head down toward her griff who was still stretching.

“Anubis, sssssshhhhhhh…. I have some bad news.”

“Mhmmmmmmm? How bad are we talking?”

“Your airship is…. D-destroyed….” She let the words sink in and watched his reaction, he got up and walked out of the ditch that they were in for some reason.

Upon seeing what had happened to his airship and the mess of mangled metal scattered around the clearing, he sagged to his rump.

“Fucking hell….”

“Anubis are you alright, I’m sorry I didn’t try to fend it off…. I-i was worried about you.” The griff cut her off and brought her into a deep hug, rocking back and forth making the pure white Alicorn relax in his hold.

“It’s fine, I can make another one dear. I’m just glad you’re alright, oh no, Celestia don’t cry. It’s alright, we’re alright.” She had began to tear up and attempt to hide herself in his chest fluff.

“B-but y-sniffle* you were s-so sob* p-proud to s-sniffle* show me it, sob* and now it’s destroyed.”

“Sigh* look it’s fine things happen but are you really alright? Because you way more emotional than usual…. I bet it’s the stress of this place, how about we go back to that little island up north and then go home?” Her answer was just a weak nod and Anubis just waited for her to get it all out of her system, he believed that it was a combination of worry about her subjects, him and this hostile environment as well as the thoughts of motherhood. “I’m sorry, this wasn’t much of a vacation….”

“Don’t…. Don’t apologise, it’s j-sniffle* just that I haven’t ever been sniffle* able to lower my guard around anypony or creature for that matter.”

“But i thought you didn’t care what the nobles thought about you?”

“I don’t but that doesn’t mean I don’t have an image to up hold….”

“And you feel like you don’t have to uphold that goddess like image for me….”

“…Yeah~….” She held her breath as she waited for him to respond.

“I like that…. the real you, so don’t even believe that you have to be all high and mighty 24-7 for me. Because I don’t give a shit about that, I see you as a pony with needs, wants and dreams….”

“Really?”

“Well yeah, wasn’t it obvious? I mean I’m cheeky, flirty and teasing towards you when you took my fucked up ass in.”

“Heheheheheh, yes you were but I found it refreshing to as the least.”

“One might say referring enough to want more?” He quirked up an eyebrow and smirked down at her, that’s when she noticed that he had gotten taller.

“How are you taller now?” She let out a huff and bapped his beak getting a laugh out of Anubis.

“Don’t know and don’t care but I’ll change that because I’m already too tall…. Oh and just because I love the real you doesn’t mean I’m not going to judge you.”

“Hey don’t judge me!”

“Oh I’m judging hard Swan neck, I’m judging so hard.”

“So…. Are we going to have to fly home?”

“Nah, I got it.”

“You got it?”

“Yeah I got it.”

“Sigh* I’m lost Anubis….”

Before Celestia could ask again, his claws began to glow an electric blue and she watched as a similarly blue large ring appeared before them.

It was about 8 feet tall and 3 feet wide and had a blue and white vortex in the centre, before the re-composed mare could react. All the belongings and trinkets that were scattered around flew into the vortex, then Anubis jumped through with the regal royal in his claws.

To Celestia’s amazement, she was back on the cliffs of the island that they had stayed on for one night, looking out at the beautiful jungle of the south continent.

“H-how?”

“I believe that I’ve achieved ascension my dear, I’m not going to be dying on you anytime soon.”

“Wha?” She was completely lost and confused but when she thought about it, she honestly didn’t care how. The thought of spending eternity with Anubis sounded like a dream and to one day introduce her sister to him brought a grin to her muzzle. “Never mind, there are still so many things I don’t know about you Anubis. Looks like I’ve got a new passion project to work on.”

“Yay me….” The sarcasm was almost pouring out of his beak.

Celestia chose to ignore it and happily left his claws to stretch out in a similar fashion to a cat, after her deep stretch she looked back to find her love with his wings fully extended and stiff.

“Oh sorry my bad, I didn’t mean to flash you.” Her tone was filled with a smugness that left Anubis frustrated in more ways than one.

“Argh, curse you biological functions….”

“Heheheheheheheheh~, I keep telling you not to lower your guard around mares sweetie.”

“You don’t count….”

“You said it yourself, I am a mare with needs, wants and dreams.” His beak was hanging open at the use of his own words against him whilst Celestia made herself comfortable, nosing at her stomach.

“Sigh* clever girl…. So when am I going to be properly introduced to the scumbag noble class?”

“Sigh* they’re not all scumbags, just most of them are but they’ve not been bothering me too much as of late. It’s probably to do with that murderer that still on the loose, we don’t even have any leads….”

“Hey don’t worry about that now, you can fuss over it when you’re home. So what are you gonna announce me as?”

“Mhmmmmmm I could dub you as a noble and then make you eligible to court me or state you as a prince of the long-eared griffons…. But my ponies might be against me having to share a mate or even the fact that you’re a different species all together.”

“I’d say just make me a griffon noble that’s been married to princess Silverfeather but had found love in the princess of Equestria, which would result in a strong bond between nations.”

“Mmmmmmm I like that one but it sounds like you wasn’t happy with your marriage….”

“Silver said griffons have something called prides, they’re similar to herds so it’s not out of the question for a griff to fall in love with more than one hen.”

“Yeah that sounds about right but marriage?”

“I found a poorly hidden griffon engagement ring under her bed, I was going to propose but after finding it. I decided to let her catch me off guard or as off guard as she can catch me.”

“Eeeeeeeeeeeeee so you’ll say yes! Oh that’s wonderful, I can already see her flying around the castle screaming “he said yes!” I can’t wait.”

“Hahahah! That will definitely be funny to witness.”

“Oh it will but the way is do you intend on making me an honest mare?”

“Mhmmmmmm I might.” His tone teasing.

“Or am I going to have to trick you into marrying me.”

“That sounds fun, I’ll be sure to read the fine print of anything you give me.”

“Then be sure to read up on the old laws, I might just dig some forgotten law up that states that you have to marry me.”

“Oh no what ever will I do?”

“Quit with the sarcasm Anubis.”

Grumble*

Both immediately turned to the source and Anubis opened his beak but Celestia cut him off.

“Not a word.” Her voice was sharp and firm making the griff close his beak.

“….so can I check.”

“No! I told you once and I’ll tell you again, I want to do it naturally. No biomancy cheating.”

“Argh fine have it your way….”

“I will.” Celestia looked away with a warm smile plastered on her muzzle.

Anubis went to lay next to her but had just came up with a different idea, he walked up next to the resting mare and fell on top of her.

“Eeeep ahhhh no Anubis, you’re heavy!”

“Gasp* did you call me fat? I’m not talking to you now….”

“What?! No I didn’t even say that.”

“But you implied it.”

“Argh, go make me something.”

“Out of what?”

“Use creation, it’s pretty much cheating at life.”

“Hey I’m not cheating, I’m just playing my cards right…. So do you want to go to the Dreamscape, it has meat-shrooms.”

“Meat-shrooms, that sounds horrible in every aspect of the word.”

“Hey don’t knock it till you try it.”

“I’m good, I’ll just eat some grass.”

“What!!!”

“I can do that you know….”

A few hours pass and Anubis had set up a camp, they were relaxing after the griff had put something together for lunch.

Celestia was stuffed and had her head resting a top Anubis rump when Fenrick’s words hit her.

“our kind really enjoy when the feathers at the base of their tail are preened.”

She licked her lips and gave Anubis a glance to make sure he wasn’t looking, she wasn’t too sure what to expect but with this griffon. Any reaction was possible.

Her tongue reached out to the long silky feathers just past his flanks, as soon as she made contact Anubis’s wings shot up and immediately fell limp as he let out a long sensual moan.

This made the alabaster Alicorn turn crimson, she pulled away and looked to his face where they made eye contact with him. That’s where it became awkward as they were both blushing profusely and Anubis was stammering his words.

“C-c-Celestia, wha-what did y-you do?” His eyes slitted with a wild look in them.

“I um I well I wa-was just preening you tail feathers….”

“No, y-you never preened those feathers before.”

“Um I just…. Thought t-that you’d like it, I-I’ll stop if you want?”

“No!” She was taken aback with his response and internally smiled.

“No…. It’s nice, please don’t stop….”

She gave the normally calm griff a grin and he gave a bashful smile towards her.

She went back to preening his tail feathers and Anubis almost went limp immediately and with in a few minutes he was out cold with a goofy grin plastered across his beak.

Celestia snuggled up to him, wrapping herself up in his wings and began to nibble on his ear.

They stayed like that, cuddling for the rest of the day away just basking in each other’s affection and presence until it was time to lower the sun.

“Yawn* why did I fall asleep? Argh Now I’m wide awake.” Celestia wined out loud towards her beloved griff-friend.

“So? Let’s enjoy the night, I mean just look at the stars.”

“Gasp* are you asking me out on a date?”

“And what if I am?”

“Her royal highness humbly excepts your attempt to court her.”

“Well it pleases me to hear that, so shall we.” He extended a wing and Celestia happily pranced up to him and slipped under the feathery appendage.

“Let’s, so what does my handsome stud have planned for me?”

“Unfortunately there isn’t too much to do here but I’m sure you could help me learn the constellations.”

“Mhmmmmmm that’s not a bad idea, I’ll accept your feeble attempt to woo me.”

“Oh thank you you’re Vajesty, how noble of you to give a peasant such opportunity.”

“You’re wel…. Wait Vajesty? That’s gross! Don’t ever call me that again huff*.”

“Hahahahahahahahah!!!” The larger griff pulled her close and nipped at her ear, which broke the frown the regal mare was wearing. “Oh come on, it’s not that bad…. Okay it’s bad but funny, you have to admit that?”

A smile threatened to adorn her features and Anubis knew he was breaking through her defences.

“So~ I think we should stretch our wings Swan neck?”

“Heheheheh~ Vajesty….” She whispered to herself, allowing the word to repeat in her head.

“What was that?” His tone smug.

“Um uhh yes! Some flying to clear the mind sounds lovely! Heh heh….”

Anubis just rolled his eyes and booped her muzzle before taking off. “Tag!!”

“Wha!? No! That’s cheating!” She gave chase and was catching up to the cocky griff, after all she knew she was faster than him and more nimble than him.

Anubis was flapping vigorously, trying to get to the cloud line but as he was about to dart into them, he felt a smack across his flanks.

“Hey! Hooves off the merchandise!”

“Never! Hahahahahaahhh!”

Poof*

Celestia had been going too fast and crashed into a denser part of the clouds, her rear end hanging out. She was a little dazed but so got her composure back upon hearing a certain some-griff’s smug voice.

“Wooow~ if I aline it just right, you’re but blocks the moon out. I’m in awe at this once in a lifetime moment, a real reverse solar eclipse.”

Her muffled voice still manages to convey her embarrassment. “Just help me please, these clouds are too unpredictable for us to be messing around.”

“Messing around? Surly you done mean me.” He used his magic to free the compromised mare. “I’m not the one who crashed but enough of that, are you okay?”

“Yes, well other than my pride….”

“Splendid…. Oh and.”

Smoooooch*

“Tag!” He yelled in a singsong voice before allowing himself to fall through the clouds.

He fell in to a corkscrew dive with Celestia hot on his tail, the mare was gaining on him but as she was about to catch the griff a portal appeared and Anubis disappeared with it.

Leaving a confused Celestia hovering a few hundred feet off the ground, in her frustration she yelled out. “That’s just unfair!!!!”

But then another portal appeared and Celestia couldn’t avoid it, she ended up flying through and crashing into a stack of coffins.

The old rotten things crumbled under her weight and she felt something wet and squishy underneath her.

Taking a look, she found that her coat was stained red and the stench of blood was thick in the air.

“Oh no…. How am I back here?” She only had to look around for a split second to realise she was back in old Leakon.

“Yep, unfortunately my portal took me back here and dragged you along, so stay close please.”

“But why?”

“Hell if I know but this appears to be deeper in the depths of this gothic city.”

“Well at least I can summon my new sword.”

“You can? How…. Never mind, you’re an Alicorn.”

“Yeah but what about you?”

Anubis walked over to a grumbling hooded griffon that was cradling a peculiar looking weapon.

The individual’s hood was a dark brown with a black outline and it flowed over the griffon’s wings, the rest of its outfit resembled a Victoria 3 peace suit that was black and gray with a crimson red ribbon around its neck.

As for the weapon the griffon was holding looked like a strange two clawed sword but instead of a blade it was serrated.

The markings on the weapon were stunning and Anubis couldn’t help but contemplate killing and taking this griffon’s weapon but then a thought hit him.

Shouldn’t all of the undead souls be gone, why are there still zombies around. He called upon the power of the blue artefact and saw that all the souls were indeed gone but that just left a city of soulless zombies roaming around.

He grabbed the shoulder of the rambling griffon but when it turned to face him, he jumped back and took a fighting stance.

“Oh god! What the fuck?!”

“Ahhhhhh oh my!! W-what is that?”

“It probably was a long-eared griffon…. I think?”

What they were looking at was a sickly looking griffon that didn’t have a beak, instead it had tentacles.

But that’s not the only off putting thing about the walking, talking husk of a griffon. Where the eyes were, it had hollowed out cavities that oozed a thick yellow and red liquid.

The abomination swung the weapon toward Anubis and Celestia, they both easily avoided the initial attack but then the thing aimed the tip of the blade at Anubis.

Thwack!!*

Cachunck*

Two bow arms extended out and shot out a large iron rod, impaling the griff and pinning him to a brick wall behind.

Celestia immediately took action and fired a magical blast from her horn, it hit and blew the creature back, smoke coming off it as the thing dropped its weapon and ran away.

“Anubis!?!”

Tear*

Splatter*

Splash*

“I’m fine! Just a bit taken off guard is all.” He had removed the large rod and tucked it away underneath his wing.

Celestia picked up the strange weapon that was on the cobblestone ground, it was a similar length as a battle axe but made from an unknown super light metal. The blade was a thin saw that tapered down to a point and across the spine of the saw was a hole for the iron rod that had fore folding bow arms attached to it.

“Hey pass it here dear, I’ll use that Weapon.”

“Okay, I’ve got my sword of the sun.”

“Heheheh and you’ve already named it, you’re adorable you know that.”

The alabaster Alicorn blushed and attempted to hide behind her mane, Anubis just shook his head.

“And now you’re even cuter.”

“Oh hush you, let’s just focus on leaving this place. You can make me blush after we’re safe.”

“But you are always safe with me?”

She just rolled her eyes and giggled. “Anyway, can you use your portals to just leave?”

“Sigh* I’ve been trying to use it this whole time…. And still nothing.”

“So we have to fly out?”

“No, look up. Flying isn’t an option.”

She looked up and made a confused face. “Why not?”

Anubis stared at her in disbelief. “You don’t see them?”

“See what?”

“Oh shit, this is troublesome…. No matter I’ll guide you my dear.”

“Okay but why?”

“You can’t see them but if we fly they’ll grab us, this also means that you might not be able to see others that are on the ground.”

“So I’m blind to some degree?”

“Yeah pretty much but I’ll make sure that you’ll be safe. Just stay close.”

With that concluded, both Alicorn and griffon began on their way out of this hell hole but Anubis was a little more curious about how or what had turned that undead long-eared griffon into that sickeningly twisted abomination that reminded him of something he had created in his past life.
