Chapter 8 - Into the dark

Mayor Jelly, a short yet confident unicorn stallion with a perfectly groomed white Mustache, stood proudly at a large stage Infront of the power station covered with colourful decorations. To his left and right, Edison Sparkwire and Tesla Coil stood proudly , with especially Sparkwire not losing an opportunity to pose for the numerous cameras around them, while Coil was looking at the large mass of ponies. Thousands managed to fit in the area Infront of the power station with Pegasi sitting in the clouds above.
With a loud Chime whistle going off the thousand eye mass all focused on the Mayor.
" (ahem) Dear citizens of Manehattan and guests from across Equestria and even beyond. Today, we stand on the brink of a new era. Thanks to the brilliant minds of Edison Sparkwire and Tesla Coil, our city will be at the forefront of magical innovation, powering our future with the wonders of magic and technology, providing affordable electricity for everyone across our beautiful city and to the country side around it!"
He gestured toward the inventors, who both gave subtle nods as applause of thousands of hooves sounded.
"For such a grand event ...Esteemed citizens of Manehattan, I would like to welcome the younger sister of our dear ruler Princess Celestia to give a speech in her absence. Please welcome… Princess Luna!”

As he spoke her name, the crowed shifted. The crowd's applause was scattered, some showing enthusiastically, while most hesitant. A soft murmur of voices could be heard as the Princess of the Night stepped from behind the curtains onto the stage. Her navy blue dress shimmered like the night sky, the silver celestial patterns catching the light with every step she took.

"Is that really her?" whispered a unicorn in the back of the crowed, leaning toward her friend.
"She looks... shorter than I thought."
"But what if..." her friend replied nervously, glancing around to make sure nopony was listening too closely, "what if she....changes again?"
"She won’t," a black Pegasus stallion, in a thin brown cloak interjected quietly, receiving cousious glances from ponies around him.

"Her dress is amazing though, but shouldn’t her mane be magical or something?” another said.

The quiet murmurs rippled through the crowd, as Luna walked to the podium, standing beside Mayor Jelly.
“Thank you, Mayor. It is with great Honor that we gather here today to begin a new journey” looking back at the gleaming against the skyline building with its towering crystal structures humming with magical energy Luna looked at the thousands of eyes looking her way she continued with a galp, "This power station symbolizes more than progress, it represents ... unity, innovation, and hope for a future where all ponies, regardless of their background, can thrive. Together, we are building a brighter tomorrow one powered not just by magic, but by trust and cooperation."

At this, Mayor Jelly stepped forward, holding a small velvet pillow in his magical aura. Resting atop it were two golden medals, each gleaming in the afternoon light, engraved with intricate patterns and a large golden sun.
Princess Luna’s eyes briefly directed at Tesla Coil who was looking at far point in the crowed with a frown "It is with great pride," she announced, her voice loud with magic, "that I present the highest civilian honor in Equestria the Royal Order of Harmony to two ponies whose ingenuity and dedication have paved the way for this monumental achievement. Edison Sparkwire and Tesla Coil!”
Edison Sparkwire bounded forward with enthusiasm, nearly tripping over his own hooves in excitement. He bowed low before Princess Luna, his grin stretching from ear to ear.

"Your Highness, esteemed citizens of Manehattan," Sparkwire began, his voice excited yet an attempt of formality still there "it is a profound honor to receive this recognition. Years of relentless dedication and innovation have led us to this moment. I stand before you humbled by the opportunity to contribute to our great city’s future. Thank you, for believing in me and the power of progress."
As Sparkwire finished, he bounced a little too enthusiastically, causing the medal to slip from its perfectly placed position and dangle awkwardly off to the side. Unfazed by the minor mishap, Sparkwire gave the crowd a quick, sheepish grin before stepping back, attempting to readjust the medal. It swayed precariously, nearly falling off again, but Sparkwire, too distracted by the cameras, paid little attention and instead attended to the side to give a Pegasi reporter and direct interview.

While Luna still maintained an eye contact at his business partner, Tesla Coil approached, his expression calm, ignoring the applause and attention of the crowd.
“I haven’t expect somepony to be that excited about a medal” Luna a touch of amusement in her voice as she turned to face the older stallion.
Tesla Coil offered a faint smile “Your Highness im afraid you were not informed but I suspect my friend is more excited about a good amount of bits that are awarded along side this medal (chuckle) Knowing Sparkwire and I know him well he will never pass an opportunity to increase his gold pot (chuckle), especially when it comes with a nice ribbon”
Luna raised an eyebrow, a hint of a smile tugging at the corner of her muzzle “That does explain most to us...” .

Lifting the second medal from the velvet pillow with her magic, her brow furrowed slightly. She could feel it ...a faint but distinct magical pulse.
“Is something wrong” Coil asked.
Mayor Jelly glanced toward the station, “I can also feel it”, his face paling as he mumbled in disbelief, “Is that supposed to happen?”
All eyes followed his gaze to the top of the station, where multi-coloured smoke began billowing from the roof. The spires atop the structure wobbled dangerously, swaying from side to side and a loud humming sounding from within.

“Something is wrong” Coil said “Your Highness, Mayor Jelly keep the crowd calm and order an evacuation! I have to contact security and-“
Before he could finish, a deafening magical hum erupted, followed by a series of explosions ripping through the top of the building. The shockwave blasted across the square, sending ponies flying off their hooves, while Pegasi were forced to take flight as clouds of smoke and debris shot into the air injuring many. Mayor Jelly was thrown from the stage, landing with a thud, while Tesla Coil instinctively leapt toward Luna, pulling her away as fragments of the roof and spires began crashing down around them.
“What is happening?!” Luna shouted, her voice barely audible over the roar of collapsing structures and fiery debris raining from above.
“I don’t know, Your Highness, but we need to move now!” Tesla Coil shouted back and pulled Luna with his wing to the back stage entrance only to be blocked by a collapsed spire. “ We have to get you out of here... what in the name of -?” His eyes widened as he glanced down and noticed a faint, glowing orange light rapidly pulsing beneath the stage, directly beneath Princess Luna.

“Your Highness, move! There’s something—”

Luna barely had time to process what happened in those chaotic seconds. Frozen in place, she felt Tesla Coil shove her with all his strength. The moment she stumbled out of the way, a bright orange beam sliced through the air where she had just stood. The searing light tore through Tesla Coil’s side, spraying crimson across both their coats and Luna’s muzzle.

'This taste… it’s familiar'

Tesla let out a agonized wail before collapsing to the ground, his side bleeding profusely, his wing badly severed with a large burn with open wounds across his entire barrel. Luna's heart raced, attempting to apply any healing spell she could, but within seconds the same orange beam scorched past her, shooting dangerously close to her muzzle any closer, and her muzzle would’ve been burned off clean.
Staggering to her side , Luna threw herself beside Tesla covering him with her wings from falling shards, her horn flaring as she summoned a magical cyan shield, using every ounce of her left strength. Around them, chaos reigned. Ponies screamed and ran in every direction, some carrying the injured, others fleeing in blind terror. The air was filled with the deafening sound of screams as thousands of hooves run in all directions.
"HELP US!" Luna shouted, her voice breaking with desperation as debris rained down, cracking against her weakening shield. Smoke began to flood in, choking the air, and her vision blurred as the onslaught continued, her magic struggling to hold under the pressure.

"Run... leave me... run...its not..." Tesla Coil whispered from beneath her wing, his voice strained with pain.
Luna’s heart raced, her mind frantic for a solution. But before she could respond, a voice cut through the chaos around them.
“Well, well, well,” came a low, mocking tone. Luna turned to see a figure emerging from the clearing of debris. A unicorn, clad in white and gold armor, approached, a long, glowing metallic tube held in his magical aura. The wooden hilt at the base of the tube covered in pristine bronze emblem of a sun and a shield.
"a solar guard?" Luna thought, her hope momentarily rising. "Guard, help us! Mr. Tesla Coil is gravely injured, we need to—"
“Oh, I will help," the unicorn interrupted, his voice low and filled with malice. His orange eyes gleamed with unnatural light as a twisted smile curled on his face. "I’ll help Equestria and Her Highness Celestia by ridding this land of the monster that corrupts it."
He stepped to the edge of Luna’s shield, ignoring the chaos around, his grin widening as he struck it with the wooden hilt of the tube. The impact sent a ripple through the shield before it shattered into shimmering shards, dissolving into the air as smoke billowed in.
"what is the meaning of this? GUARD!" Luna commanded, her voice filled with authority. "As Princess of Equestria, I order you to—"
The unicorn spat to the side, cutting her off. "You are no princess," he sneered as he placed a bright orange crystal held with a silver ring in an opening of the tube. "You are a monster, here to take everything we've built with our blood and sweat”
His grin disappeared, as his voice dripped with venom as he aimed the glowing metallic tube at her, closing their distance with every step, its light pulsing fiercer and more rapidly each time with each passing second, “Oh we waited for this day so long” he chuckled - “What is the meaning of this . what do you want from us?” Luna asked , as her fear grew within her causing her voice to tremble, while attempting to form another shield before her. The shield was so weak that the guard managed to walk through it without no acknowledgment of it even being there. As the tube stopped pulsing with light and a stable light illuminated from the tube, he stopped right Infront of her, aiming the tube right to her head causing the Princess to tremble in fear with wide eyes and tears rushing down her cheeks,
“heh how pathetic...Burn in Tartarus Nightmare Moo-"
A deafening pop filled the air. Luna’s vision blurred as the world around her plunged into cold darkness. The last thing she saw was the shadow, a dark, consuming force swallowing all the light from her surroundings as she fell into the cold, endless abyss.
