Thunk, Thunk, Thunk!

Sombra knocked on the Princess of the Nights balcony window. Yes, he was aware that their first date in over 3 centuries was next week. However, if he was to court Luna again, he would do so with 100% effort. It was around the end of the day, she was usually asleep around this time from what he remembered.

“Who would be…Oh. It’s you,” Luna said, rubbing her eyes and yawning. Luna felt a brief wave of anxiety as she looked at Sombra. Did she get the wrong day for her date with him mixed up?

“I know that this isn’t the agreed upon day. However I figured we could go for a stroll before your night shift,” Sombra said, using his magic to levitate a bouquet of Nacht Lilies over to her. Luna’s grogginess was finally wearing off and she realized she was being given flowers.

“Oh, it has been some time since we have seen these,” Luna said, taking them in her own magic and bringing them to her nose. She inhaled and a comforting scent filled her nose. The Nacht Lilies smelled of lavender and cedar wood, with a hint of coconut.

“So I take it that would be a yes?” Sombra asked, smiling at her. Luna rolled her eyes and set the flowers on the desk in her room.

“Give us a few moments to get ready. Also next time use the door,” Luna said. It was Sombra’s turn to roll his eyes as he took a seat on the balcony.

“Name one time I ever used the door to your room,” Sombra said, laughing as he did. Luna paused for a moment, sighed and said nothing as she went to the bathroom. Sombra hummed to himself on the balcony as he waited for Luna. When she re-emerged from the bathroom she had taken on the appearance of a grey Pegasus.

“We are ready to depart. However we only have three hours,” Luna said, smiling at him. Sombra gave an exaggerated bow and smiled.

“Of course, I would hate to waste more of her majesty’s time,” He said, teleporting the both of them. When they reappeared, the two were in the middle of a busy Canterlot street.

“We don’t have time to stand in the busy lines do we?” Luna asked, as the two strolled through the streets.

“No, but that is what reservations are for,” Sombra retorted, earning him a playful punch to the side. The two said little as they walked, just simply enjoying each other's company. More so because neither knew what to say. It was after all their first date in centuries. The two enjoyed a stroll through the streets until Sombra stopped her in a park.

“Didn’t you mention a reservation?” Luna asked, raising an eyebrow at him.

“Little misdirection, you are on a time crunch are you not?” Sombra asked, bumping into Luna. Making her smile as the two found themselves on a bench looking out on a pond. There were ducks, koi fish, and plenty of aquatic flowers around. They sat awkwardly next to each other for a while before either spoke.

“Any reason in particular for this spot?” Luna asked, looking around. She saw the calm water of the pond, then a few ripples from a creature beneath the surface. Then she returned her attention to the stallion beside her.

“Do you not remember? This was where we had our first date. Although it has changed over the past few centuries,” Sombra said, nervously looking at a particularly fascinating pile of rocks.

“Is that the only reason?” Luna asked, turning to look him in the eyes.

“I-, I want to come clean here. While I can, While I have the courage, I want to apologize,” Sombra said, heaving a sigh.

“There is no need. We have been privy to your situation,” Luna said, putting a hoof around him.

“Even still. I hurt you, abandoned you, and attacked you. This, while understood by you, haunts me. I want you to know I want to be bett-” Sombra said, before Luna planted her lips on his cheek. Sombra froze, looking at Luna giggle as she watched his expression change several times. From confused, to happy, to embarrassed, then back to confused.

“We said that we understand. Trust is variable, but actions speak louder than words,” Luna said, resting her head on Sombra’s shoulder. His brain for lack of a better word was working overtime trying to come up with something witty, or smart.

“I-I see, Thank you Luna, truly,” Sombra said. He wanted to say something else yet, nothing came to mind. He was overly happy, no, happy wasn’t strong enough to describe how he felt. She was going to give him a chance, give them a chance. He felt overjoyed, like he did when he was able to legally adopt Icarus. The two talked for hours until Luna realized that the sun had been setting for quite some time.

“Oh shi-, Sombra we seem to have lost track of time I must get back-” Luna said, jolting up. Before Luna could start heading back towards the castle, Sombra kissed her. A type of kiss that Luna had dreamed of and longed for. Deep and loving, a kiss that made Luna understand what Sombra meant when he would tell her she couldn’t do that to him.

“You are so cruel when you want to be,” Luna said, panting as their lips parted from the kiss. Sombra winked and shooed her away with his hoof.

“Any later and your sister might be a little suspicious,” Sombra said. Luna rolled her eyes in response and began to fly towards the castle. Undoing her disguise spell she approached her balcony.

“Goodness, Luna, how much longer are you going to sleep in?” Celestia said, knocking on her sister's door. She figured she would be a good sister and let Luna sleep in for an hour or so extra. There were however limits to even her patience, as she grew more and more exhausted with the day.

“S-Sister? What brings thee to our door,” Luna said, stuttering and opening her door. She hadn’t expected to be gone for long, but she found herself putty in Sombra’s hooves again. Even after centuries apart, the two still had so much chemistry and had talked long past the allotted two hours initially set.

“I thought you were asleep. What have you been doing?” Celestia asked, looking down at her flustered sister.

“Um, we…went out for fresh air?” Luna said, slowly. Celestia raised an eyebrow as she looked at her sister.

“Fresh air? What happened that you are three hours late?” Celestia asked. Luna averted her eyes as her sisters gaze bore down on her

“I was…Out with Sombra,” Luna said, mumbling. She really didn’t want to talk about her date immediately after getting back.

“You were what?” Celestia asked, leaning down slightly. Luna took a deep breath and looked up, her cheeks flushed red.

“Nevermind, We are sorry. Please excuse our tardiness sister,” Luna said, weakly. She wanted to postpone telling her sister about her date. Celestia smiled and gave Luna a brief hug before walking past her.

“Ok Lu, these things happen. Please be more aware of the time. Until tomorrow,” Celestia said, returning to her room for the night.

“Will do sister,” Luna said, walking the opposite direction towards the throne room. Celestia peered behind her and smiled. Once her sister was around the corner and gone, she pumped her hoof in excitement.

“Things are moving along well. Good job little Icarus, I will have to reward him later,” Celestia said, giggling to herself.

Sombra after much deliberation on the bench he was rooted to after his date. Finally decided to set out back home to Manehattan. Getting up, he took another look around and had a thought.

“We could move out here…,” Sombra mumbled, before teleporting to his doorstep. He was gone longer than he told Icarus he would be. Life happens though and Icarus understood that, maybe even better than he did. As soon as Sombra opened the door, he flinched.

“How was it dad? Did you try that restaurant Fleur recommended? Did you make up, Or- mmph?!,” Icarus asked, excitedly as Sombra covered his mouth.

“It was fine, no we did not have time, I am unsure if we have made up but it is a step in the right direction,” Sombra said, answering the questions best he could without sounding too happy.

“Oh, maybe try not to smile so much when you get home if you’re going to sound so chilled out,” Icarus said, turning and walking into the kitchen. He pulled out leftovers from dinner, and set them out.

“I thank the gods that my son can cook,” Sombra said, laughing and joining his son in the kitchen. The two sat in the kitchen and enjoyed dinner together, and talked about Sombra’s date. Then Sombra remembered what he thought of before he left the park.

“Son, I would like to move to Canterlot if possible,” Sombra said in between bites of his food.

“For what? We have it pretty good here,” Icarus said, looking at Sombra curiously. Sombra sighed and put down his fork.

“I would like to live closer to Luna,” Sombra said, watching Icarus do the same.

“I want to live closer to Fleur, and we work here in the city. I also can’t use magic or fly dad,” Icarus said, coldly.

“Watch your tone, I simply wanted to get your opinion,” Sombra snapped.

“My opinion would be to stay here then. You said things went well but slowly anyway,” Icarus said, trying to stay calm.

“Alright then. That was all I wanted to know,” Sombra asked, getting up and levitating his plate into the sink.

“Goodnight,” Icarus said, getting down from his stool and walking to his room. Sombra levitated the plate and utensils from the table to the sink and washed them as well. Why did Icarus get so defensive when he asked him about moving? It wasn’t like he was just going to make him leave Manehattan.

“I’ll have to ask about it later. Being a parent is…odd,” Sombra said, shaking his head and retreating for the night. Overall it wasn’t a bad day, his wish to be with Luna might yet be fulfilled. They had their official date next week, and he couldn’t wait.
