11 | Letting Go

“I should probably get to work at Sugar Cube Corner,” I tell Flutters.

“Yeah, I suppose you should, but I just want to stay like this for a few more minutes,” she nuzzles her face into my chest.

We stayed like this for several minutes until we finally gathered our strength from the workout; we just put our bodies through. We begin to fly upwards and back to her cottage as I see a familiar face in the distance. It was Rainbow Dash from the other day.

“Huh, I wonder what she wants,” asked, confused.

“Blue Bolt!” Rainbow Dash shouted.

“What is it?” I yelled back at her.

She proceeds to fly closer to us until we’re talking distance.

“We’ve been looking for you!”

“Looking for me?” I needed clarification.

“Yes, there’s something in town you need to see!”

I look at Flutters, somewhat confused, and she gives me a similar look.

“Okay, does it need to be right this second?” I ask.

“YES, right this second!”

“You should go, Blue Bolt; this sounds important,” as Flutters hugs me and descends.

“Follow me, Blue Bolt,” as Rainbow Dash commanded me.

I follow her back to Ponyville, where most of the town is out for the morning with ponies doing their day-to-day errands. We land down the main street and trot towards Sugar Cube Corner.

“You escorted me back to work? Gee, thanks, Rainbow Dash,” I said somewhat angrily.

“I didn’t bring you all the way here for work, genius,” she said, smirkingly.

“Then why am I here?” I ask.

“See for yourself, dude,” as she gestures at me to open the door.

I open the door with my hoof to see dozens of ponies inside the shop.

“SURPRISE,” they all said collectively.

“What, what’s all this?”

“It’s a surprise party, duh!” Pinkie says, shooting a confetti popper.

“I don’t understand. It’s not my Birthday; was there some event I missed?”

“Not exactly Sugar Cube,” Apple Jack said, sipping some cider.”

“Well, what is it?”

“Oh, Blue Bolt, aren’t you just the cutest?” as Flutters peaks behind the counter.”

“Flutters, what are you doing here?” “All of this is for you!”

“For me?” I ask, needing clarification.

“We all wanted to throw a party for you to celebrate you moving here to Ponyville.” Flutters said.

“It was mostly my idea, to be exact,” Pinkie said, smirkingly.

“Wow, I don’t know what to say, this is great!” I say rather nervously.

“You did always tend to get nervous in large crowds,” a familiar voice said from behind the crowd of ponies.

The mare slowly trotted to the front, where I could finally see who it was. It was my Mother.

“Mom?” What are you doing here? I asked, confused.

“I wanted to see you one last time before you go.”

“One last time?” Mom, what are you talking about?”

“Come with me momentarily, son,” as I follow her behind the store.

“Mom, it’s so good to see you but, I don’t understand what are you doing here?"

"Blue Bolt, I only wanted the best for you from the moment you were born. I did my best to protect, teach, and give you the needed strength. Now all I see is my baby filly all grown up."

I started crying down my face. It was one of those cries where you couldn’t stop it from happening.

“Mom, I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you. You sacrificed so much for me, and I will always be grateful.”

“I know you are Blue Bolt; I came here to say goodbye. You’re all grown now and don't need me any longer.”

“What are you talking about, Mom? I will always need you!”

“No, Blue Bolt, I came here to Ponyville expecting to find you needing my help, but instead, I learned from your friends that you are capable just on your own.”

“In just a short few days, you found a job, made some friends, and found a special pony for yourself. I couldn’t be prouder of you, and you’ve shown you no longer need me to help you with difficult decisions. I raised you to be the amazing stallion you are today.”

She hugs me tightly as my tears fall onto her face.

“It’s time to let go, Blue Bolt. You’re ready to face Equestria by yourself.”

She wipes my tears as I look up at her.

"You promise you'll” visit now and then?"

"Once in a blue moon, of course, I will, but I always know you’ll be doing your best even when I can’t see you, that I know for a fact.”

“Thank you, Mom, for everything.”

“Of course, my son, now you enjoy yourself with that mare. She’s extraordinary, Blue Bolt; she’s the one for you.”

“I know she is. I’ve never been happier.”

“Well, you better get going,” she reaches over and kisses me on the forehead before opening the back exit and looking back at me one last time.

“I love you son.”

“I love you too, Mom.”

She trots out the door as it closes behind her. I stand there for a moment, feeling absolute joy. I felt so strong knowing that I had made it. That I've matured enough to have my Mother tell me so. All I could do with myself at that moment was smile ear to ear. I heard the door behind me slowly open to see Flutters enter the doorway. I immediately trotted over to her and gave her the tightest hug possible. She exchanged the hug back to me even tighter.

“I’m so proud of you.” She said.

“I love you, Flutters.”

“I love you too, Blue Bolt.”

We stood there hugging until she moved away and looked at me.

“Now, how about we throw a party?”

“That sounds like a wonderful idea,” I smiled at her.

We both trotted back into the store lobby, where every pony awaited. “Finally, there they are!” Rainbow Dash said, somewhat annoyed.

“Let’s get this party started!” Pinkie said as she began to shoot confetti from a giant cannon. Another pony started playing music, and the whole store completely changed scenery.

I grab some Cider from Applejack as Flutters does the same. We trot over to the counter and grab some cake prepared for us.

“Now, this is a party!” Rainbow Dash said, flying above us. I finished my cake and cider and looked over Flutters. A slow song began to play, and it was a perfect opportunity.

“Flutters, do you want to dance?” I asked her.

“Oh, I’ve never really danced before.”

“Me neither, but you can just follow my lead.”

The store floor opens as other mares and stallions grab their special pony and dance. Me and Flutters join them on the floor as we start to get close to each other. I put my hooves around Flutter’s neck as she did the same around me, and we slowly began to dance in a circular pattern. Ever so slightly speeding up when the song allowed it.

All the other ponies faded into the darkness, and it was just me and Flutters at that very moment. She eventually nuzzled her head into my chest, and I put mine into her neck.

No words were exchanged between us, only each other’s company at that moment; it was all we needed. We danced to what seemed like moons until the song finally stopped, and the party returned to a typical setting.

“Well, there’s the two love birds!” Pinkie said excitedly. “I’m so happy for you both that I could SCREAM!”

“Oh, um, you don’t have to, Pinkie, really,” Flutters said as we all chuckle.

“If you’re ain’t the perfect couple, I don’t know what is,” Applejack said with a grin.

“Yeah, okay, sure, they are a pretty cute couple,” Rainbow Dash said smirkingly.

“Thanks, every pony, really, for all of this.”

“Don’t mention it, Blue Bolt; why don’t you and Flutters flutter off? HAHA, see what I did there?!” Pinkie said with laughter.

“Good one, Pinkie,” Flutters said, blushing.

With that, we said our goodbyes to every pony, gathered some sweets for the road and headed out the door.
